The Kinkades #5

The Gentleman

Rate this book
Max Hamilton knows how to treat a woman right.

Open the door for her. Lend her your coat in the cold. And flowers. Always flowers. It was the reason he started MaineStems, his flower delivery service—to help more men be gentlemen. And one of those men is his best friend on his wedding day—even if the bride is the woman of Max’s dreams.

Max will deliver the wedding day bouquet with a smile on his face and only his best wishes for the couple. A simple feat… if only the message in the card was one of everlasting love instead of instant betrayal.

Daisy Turner has been knocked up, stood up, and the only person who can help her is the messenger. The last person she wants to lean on right now is her runaway groom’s best friend, but he’s her only shot. Not for a happily ever after, but for the next best health insurance coverage.

Max will do anything to help Daisy and her unborn baby… including marry her. And he’ll tell himself it’s the gentlemanly thing to do. But the way he wants her… that’s the opposite of gentlemanly. And to tell her how he’s always wanted her… well, only a scoundrel would do that.

When the timer on their convenient marriage runs out, will it be the gentlemanly thing to do to keep his word and walk away? Or will Max confess that Daisy has always had his heart?

Dive into The Gentleman—a small-town, marriage-of-convenience romance full of heart, heat, and second chances. Start reading now.

Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.

When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

Gentleman he is, but in the bedroom not so much! This one hooked me right away. Daisy is his best friend’s girlfriend, the one woman he has wanted from the moment he met her but never touched. When her ex leaves her at the altar, he finally gets his chance to show her what it feels like to be truly cared for by the man who probably should have been hers from the start.

The story brings passion, fire, romance and friendship with a real FAFO energy that made it impossible to put down. Their chemistry is explosive but there is a softness beneath it that makes the whole thing feel earned. I loved the way the author balanced the heat with genuine emotion and let both characters step into something that felt inevitable.

I cannot wait for the Beekeeper.

“And it felt very different from the kind of man I was outside of the bedroom. Chivalrous in the streets, commanding in the sheets.”

“A gentleman could only resist so much for so long.”

“My name hitched a ride on every sigh and moan that left her mouth, and I was addicted to the sound of it. Addicted to the feel of her. Addicted to her.”

“Every day, Daze. I’ll marry you every day if that’s what you want.”

Some love stories feel like fate. Others feel like fire.
Max and Daisy’s? It’s both—burning slow for years, then igniting all at once.

The Gentleman by Dr. Rebecca Sharp is the kind of romance that sneaks under your skin: tender, deliciously forbidden, and overflowing with the kind of devotion that makes you believe in meant-to-be even when the timing has been nothing but cruel.

Max Hamilton has spent years being the good guy—the gentleman.
He opens doors. He brings flowers. He started an entire business to help other men show up for the women they love.

But for Max, there’s always been only one woman: Daisy Turner.
His best friend’s girlfriend. The bride he’s delivering flowers to on her wedding day.
The one he’s loved from afar with a loyalty that hurts.

Until he opens that card.
Until the truth detonates.
Until Daisy is suddenly knocked up, stood up, and staring at the last man she ever expected to lean on.

What happens next is everything I adore about a romance with real heart: Max steps in—not because he’s a hero in theory, but because he’s her hero in practice. And when he offers marriage “just until she’s safe,” we all know the truth: Max has been hers long before either of them were brave enough to say it.

Their marriage of convenience is intimate, soft, achingly respectful…
Right up until it isn’t.

Because the gentleman in Max?
Kills the lights and hands the reins to a man who has waited years to love Daisy the way she deserves. And let me tell you: Daisy Turner never stood a chance against that kind of focused, reverent, filthy devotion.

But beneath the heat, this story beats with emotion—two people terrified of repeating the patterns that broke them, slowly realizing they are each other’s exception. Daisy finally begins to understand what love feels like when it’s chosen, not begged for. And Max? He gets the chance to finally stop hiding how long he’s been hers.

The Kinkade family only deepens the charm: supportive, fierce, funny, and the exact kind of chaotic loyalty that makes this world feel lived-in and loved-in.

If you crave romance that blends:
✨ Long-buried longing finally unleashed
✨ A “good guy” who turns absolutely sinful for the right woman
✨ A heroine learning she deserves the kind of love that stays
✨ Marriage of convenience with real, aching vulnerability
✨ A found family ready to go to war for their own

…then The Gentleman delivers everything the title promises—and everything Max never lets stay in the realm of fantasy once Daisy is finally his to claim.

This isn’t just a love story.
It’s a homecoming—one Max has been quietly building for Daisy from the very beginning.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Gentleman is a tender, emotionally grounded marriage-of-convenience romance that leans hard into quiet devotion, restrained longing, and the kind of love that’s been there all along—waiting patiently.

Max Hamilton is exactly what the title promises and then some. His version of masculinity is rooted in care, consistency, and doing the right thing even when it hurts. The flowers, the open doors, the unspoken sacrifices—everything about him screams acts of service, and it makes his internal struggle all the more compelling. Watching a man who prides himself on restraint wrestle with wanting the woman he’s sworn to protect is pure romantic tension.

Daisy’s situation is heartbreaking without being melodramatic. She’s vulnerable, practical, and painfully aware of the stakes—not just for herself, but for her unborn child. The marriage of convenience feels organic and necessary, not contrived, and the health insurance angle grounds the story in real-world stakes that make every emotional beat hit harder.

What truly elevates this book is the slow, aching emotional intimacy. The love here isn’t loud or flashy—it’s built in glances, in unspoken understanding, in everything Max doesn’t say. The push-pull between being a “gentleman” and wanting more is deliciously restrained, making the eventual emotional payoff deeply satisfying.

If you love pining heroes, friends-to-lovers energy, small-town warmth, and marriages of convenience that blur into something real, The Gentleman delivers a heartfelt, quietly swoony romance that lingers long after the last page 🌸💍✨.

This was an absorbing read. It grabbed me from the beginning and kept me interested throughout. Daisy has been jilted on her wedding day and Max is there to take care of her. He’s been in love with her since he set eyes on her four years ago. But she was his best friend’s girl, so he’s respected that. When she’s left alone and pregnant he steps up willingly. I wasn’t sure quite how to feel about Max. On one hand, he was the gentleman, respectful, courteous, always looking out for others, never really losing his temper, always fixing things. But then there was his utter devotion to Daisy. He was absolutely besotted by her and thought everything she said, did and was was perfect. It was just a small bother, but I do wish he hadn’t been convinced she was faultless. I want a man who sees my imperfections and loves me because of them. Not one who is blind to them. Ah well. Daisy was stuck in a rough place and I could understand why she would be hesitant to take help but also resigned to it. The two danced around one another for quite some time before they started opening up and figuring things out. The spicy bits, though later in the book, were very spicy indeed. The build-up to the inevitable culmination of Max and Daisy’s chemistry made the pay off so much more rewarding. I also liked the inclusion of Max’s family and friends, both from previous and upcoming books. It was a good read and one I’d recommend.

The “ring” as a plot device…disappointing

It’s fun exploring the extended family we’ve seen in the Kinkades series. Max has come up several times. Now it’s his turn.

Max helps his best friend Todd be a better man for his girlfriend, later fiancée, Daisy. He helps him too much, so Daisy doesn’t get to see what type of man Todd really is. Daisy gets left at the altar. Turns out that Matt has always had “feelings” for Daisy but being the “gentleman” that he is, he stays back for Todd.

After being left at the altar, Daisy continues to wear the engagement ring from Todd. Really?! Further in the story there is a weak reason why she leaves it on. It is used as a plot device/gimmick. A bit disappointing and a little lazy if you ask me. Oh well…moving on.

Eventually, after lots of miscommunication, things end up well. This was a fluff story that you just had to suspend any disbelief on how a jilted bride-to-be would act. I enjoyed Max and as time goes by you see why Daisy is the way she is. There is a HEA and there's even an explanation for Todd being the way he is. I enjoyed the people in the story and getting to see other Kinkades from previous stories, so I’m being generous in rating this book 4 stars. If I went by how the ring is used in this story the rating would be lower.

The Gentleman delivers a heartfelt, small-town romance that had me turning pages with a smile. Max Hamilton is exactly what his name promises — kind, attentive, and always ready with flowers — the reason he started his flower delivery business, MaineStems, to help men show up like true gentlemen.

When Daisy Turner is left at the altar — pregnant and abandoned — Max steps in not out of obligation but out of genuine care. What begins as a marriage of convenience for insurance and support quickly evolves into something deeper. Watching Max juggle being a protector for Daisy and her baby while wrestling with his long-held feelings gave the story steady emotional grounding.

Their chemistry is warm and believable, and the way Max’s gentlemanly nature clashes with his more passionate desires adds delightful tension throughout. This isn’t just a sweet romance — it’s a story about loyalty, integrity, and choosing love even when it’s complicated.

I've loved all of the stories in this series, and if you love characters who grow into their courage and a slow-burn love that feels earned, The Gentleman hits all the right notes and deserves every one of my five stars.

This second-chance romance starts with a dramatic and unusual premise: the heroine is dumped at the altar, and the best man is the one who ends up delivering the news. Things take an unexpected turn when practical reality sets in—she’s pregnant, needs health insurance, and the two end up getting married. From there, the story asks the central question: is this just a marriage of convenience, or can something real grow from it?
The plot itself is definitely unique and kept me interested. The characters are generally well done, and it’s easy to get invested in their situation. That said, at times they felt a bit over the top. The replacement friend group, in particular, came across as almost unrealistically perfect—overly nice, overly gentlemanly, and just a bit too polished, which occasionally pulled me out of the story.
Still, despite those moments, this is a lovely book overall. It’s an enjoyable, emotional read with a lot of heart, and the central romance works well. If you enjoy second-chance romances with unconventional setups and a touch of real-life stakes, this one is definitely worth picking up.

The Gentleman by Rebecca Sharp is a captivating enemies-to-lovers romance that blends high-society intrigue with intense passion and emotional redemption. The story features a sophisticated yet guarded hero and a fierce heroine whose clashing worlds ignite sizzling tension and undeniable chemistry, evolving into a deeply satisfying connection. I appreciated Sharp’s skillful balance of sharp banter, heartfelt vulnerability, and steamy encounters that keep the narrative engaging.

Sharp’s writing immerses readers in a world of elegance and hidden desires, with well-paced plot twists and character growth that reveal layers beneath the surface glamour. The supporting dynamics add richness without overshadowing the central romance.

While the forbidden attraction trope is familiar, Sharp’s nuanced storytelling and authentic emotional arcs make it feel fresh and compelling. The pacing builds masterfully, though a few resolutions could have lingered for deeper impact.

Overall, The Gentleman is a swoony, sophisticated read for fans of contemporary romance with depth and heat. I’m rating it 4 stars and look forward to more from Rebecca Sharp.

Meet Max Hamilton, a man whose loyalty is both his greatest strength and his deepest flaw. He loves his two closest friends—especially Daisy Turner—so much that he sacrifices his own heart's desire. Max is secretly, hopelessly in love with Daisy, but his commitment to his best friend keeps his lips sealed.
Daisy Turner finds herself pregnant and abandoned at the altar. Her stubborn independence makes her wary of accepting help, even from Max, her kindest connection to her jilting ex. Yet, as their new reality forces them together, their suppressed feelings can no longer be ignored. Daisy struggles against repeating past cycles, determined not to fall for the devoted hero she desperately needs Max to not be.
This is the story of two people building a found family and finding a forever love Dr. Sharp once again delivers a supremely heartwarming and cozy tale, ideal for a snowy afternoon and a warm mug of cocoa.

This was a slow burn romance in the fact that Max pined for Daisy for years. Once they became an official married couple, however, his long buried desires burst forth and the kid gloves he treated her with came off!

Max, Daisy and her fiancee, Todd, were all friends with Max being Todd’s best friend. Todd wasn’t the man for her and proved it on multiple occasions, but Max usually tried to cover for him. Todd left Daisy on their wedding day, and once again, Max swooped in to save the day.

What kept this from being a 5 star read was the fact that I just wanted to shake Daisy when she gave Todd chance after chance. I get that he was her unborn daughter’s father, but he was not the man for the job. I’m just not a person who would ever give so many chances to someone not deserving.
Once Daisy got completely on board with Max looking after her, she wasn’t so frustrating to me.

That being said, this was another very good read, but then I count on Rebecca Sharp to always deliver.

Max fell for Daisy at first sight, only to find out that she was his best friend's girlfriend. It's been four years of torture, always the third wheel, stepping up for her as a friend every time Todd messes up. Now, she's been left at the altar, pregnant and homeless. Max steps up again, offering her a fake marriage for the insurance and a home, all the while wishing it were real. Their life has become everything he's dreamed of for years... if only she wasn't still wearing another man's ring.
I love this series so much! I was so sad thinking it was over with the last Kinkade sibling, only to be so excited by the news of the series continuing. I didn't think anything could beat the Lightkeeper, but Max and Daisy won my heart. Now I'll be anxiously waiting for Harper's story.

I was so excited when Rebecca announced she was going to continue the series with the Kinkade family with the Hamilton cousins! Max, Harper, and Nox all had moments in previous books (especially The Innkeeper) where I couldn’t wait for more of them.

The Gentleman featured Max and his love interest, Daisy (his pregnant best friend’s fiancée). I loved how this was like a second chance/first time because both had unrequited feelings for each other but never took the opportunity to speak out, especially once Daisy found out she was expecting. Max is all pent up with feelings, trying to navigate how to protect Daisy while not forcing himself to have her as his own finally, where Daisy is coming to terms with the fact she’s living the life her mom warned her about (not depending on a man and getting her heart broken) when she finds Todd has left her and their unborn daughter in their wedding day, not man enough to stick around. Max suggests they get married so he can provide stability for her and the baby and they agree to “until the baby is born”, though Max quickly pulls out the “my wife” and it’s swoon city from there. Max is “chivalrous in the streets and commanding in the sheets” and boy is he packing and bringing the heat! Once they finally lay it all on the table, both realize that it’s only ever been each other the last 4 years and they cannot hide their true feelings anymore. Their journey is about friendship, navigation social circles, plot twists, the importance of listening, family comes first, and the absolute best girl dad ever! I won’t spoil the ins and outs of their story but I was definitely surprised at some reveals! I don’t normally enjoy accidental pregnancy or pregnancy tropes but this one isn’t written the typical way and I really enjoyed it!

I love Harper and I can’t wait for her story next because I know it’s packed with goodness based on the tidbits we’ve gotten thus far.

Max is the true Gentleman

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ | 🌶️🌶️🌶️

The Gentleman was everything you could hope for from Dr. Rebecca Sharp. I’ve loved and devoured every single book in the Kinkade series, and this one does not disappoint.

Max is truly the perfect “gentleman”—except in the bedroom, where he definitely takes charge. He has loved Daisy from day one and has stood by her side through every circumstance. I especially loved how fiercely protective he was of Daisy and the baby.

Another highlight for me was the reveal about Todd at the end. I struggled to like him throughout the book, but Dr. Sharp did a wonderful job adding depth to his character and shifting my perspective.

If there are a couple of things I would have done differently, the first is Daisy’s portrayal. She repeatedly claims to be an independent woman, yet her character often came across as needy to me. Also, there were moments where the pacing dragged a bit.

Nonetheless, I really loved this book.

On her wedding day Daisy receives the news that no bride wants to hear which is her fiancé has abandoned her. She now finds herself without a home, a job and expecting a child with no health insurance. As much as her independent self rebels she knows that the best option she has is a temporary marriage of convenience with Max until she lands on her feet.

Max has always loved Daisy but kept his feelings hidden as she was romantically involved with his best friend. When he realizes what his friend has done his only thought is how to make things easier for her which includes a marriage of convenience even if he wants so much more.

Max is the perfect mix of a gentlemen in public but behind closed doors he brings the swoon while Daisy realizes that when love is freely given it is the greatest gift of all as they take us on a journey of discovery that is filled with emotion and heat.

I’ve been following this author for years now and as the Kinkade family started, I connected with Max on some level- and I was so eager for his book. When I learned what trope it was, I was even more eager and it Did not disappoint. Max has been hopelessly in love with his best friends girl for years. Watching them be together has been pure torture for him. Daisy is trying to escape the relationship patterns her mother set for her and feels Like she is failing at every step. When her wedding to Todd doesn’t go as planned, she is left unmarried, pregnant, and afraid. OF COURSE our Gentleman Max is going to have to come in and help her, right?! And boy, does he ever! You learn so much about how much Max has done for Daisy behind the scenes for years and you Realize just how much he has really loved her.

This book just shot straight up to my favorite in this series. If you love slooooow burns with a ton of angst and longing. You will love this book.

Max has always been the quintessential good guy in this series. He’s always willing to drop everything and help out a friend or family member. But no one more than Daisy, his best friend’s girlfriend. So, of course he’s there to pick up the pieces when her life falls apart. But the way that man flips a switch in the bedroom? The thing book boyfriends are made of. He may be chivalrous in the streets, but that man is a commanding beast in the sheets.

This book is a delicious slow burn, but once it ignites, it burns hot and fast.

I love seeing all our favorite characters from previous books as well. I can’t wait for the next one!

Max and Daisy's story had me going thru the whole scope of emotions.

Usually bypass best friend tropes but this is Dr. Sharpe, so expected it not to be the norm and boy did she deliver.

Max is in love with Daisy, his best friend's girl. Has been from the first day he met her. They have a special kind of relationship. He is always there when she needs a listening ear. As he is when she gets left at the altar! Wow! Max has the patience of a saint! He is the perfect gentleman, until. . .no spoilers here. You'll need to read this story to find out what happens.

Great addition to the Kinkades saga. Harper is next up and I can't wait to read her story!

I absolutely loved The Gentleman - it’s a deeply emotional, quietly powerful romance that proves devotion doesn’t have to be loud to be unforgettable. Max is the kind of hero who shows up consistently, chooses love with intention, and makes patience feel romantic rather than painful, while Daisy’s journey toward feeling safe, chosen, and truly cherished is incredibly satisfying. The marriage-of-convenience trope is handled with real tenderness, the emotional payoff is strong, and the found-family dynamic adds warmth and depth. This is a love story built on respect, longing, and timing finally falling into place - and it lingers long after the last page.

I thought I’d loved the thoughtful gentleman Max. I’d fantasized about him as an equally thoughtful and patient lover. Never in my wildest dreams had I pictured how that gentleman became a delicious caveman behind closed doors. How his deference could morph into dominance. And never could I have imagined just how much it would turn me on.

This is by far one of my top 5 favorite books that I've ever read. Max and Daisy's story is so beautiful. I just love Max!! Every woman should have a man like Max. I wish I could write a review worthy of this book, but I'm not that eloquent. You just need to read this book, and I bet you'll read it again.

Fantastic read. I loved the slow build, unrequited love aspect of the book.

Pregnant and stood up on her wedding day, Daisy has her fiance's best friend Max to turn to.

Max was soft but stood up when he needed to. Taking care of everyone but to his own detriment. He loved Daisy very much and wanted her but telling her would wreck everything.

I liked the layers of story Bergen not just Max and Daisy but her fiancée and Max and also the other characters. But that chemistry was there for Max and Daisy just show to come.

So well done. I enjoyed the whole experience with this book. Loved it!.

The only reason I reluctantly gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is because I needed the characters to be a little selfish faster. Because let me tell you, once Max got there, once he said "mine", it was delicious. It was possessive. It was filthy. And very exciting for me. The denial wasn't working for me much when it was obvious to everyone how Max and Daisy felt. That man is pure dedication in all aspects of his life. Also, the close knit family unit is a plus. Gigi is wise and entertaining, so I always found myself looking for her little drops of wisdom. This book is extra romantic and I was very happy with how the hurdles were handled. I even felt a little proud of Todd and would like a taste of a future with him included.

Max has loved Daisy since the day his best friend introduced her as his girlfriend. When Todd leaves a pregnant Daisy standing at the altar, Max is there to pick up the pieces. There are some many things the pair have never said to the other that would have changed their paths in life.

There are some many complications with the ex's parents threatening to take away the baby. Max is determined to protect both girls, marrying Daisy to stop Todd's parents. This is such a beautiful story, they both get their happily ever after and a lot of family interference.

Despite the long and unconventional road they travel and at times the obstacles in their way, this beautiful slow burn romance between Max and Daisy hooks you right from the start. A super read about missed opportunities to speak the truth, unrequited love, along with some interesting twists and turns you don’t expect. Throw in Gigi’s intuition and premonitions and the love of family will keep you engaged until the last page. Thanks to BookSprout and the author for the opportunity to read and review her work.

The Gentleman is a well-written easy-to-follow, sweet feel-good storyline with just enough spice to heat things and remind us the Gentleman knows how to get dirty. The cast of characters is engaging and well-rounded each with their own little personality quirks. Add a twist or three to keep us on our toes throw in a drama-filled emotional roller-coaster to sweeten the whole experience and that all-important happy ever after if any of this is your jam then this is definitely your book.

When Max’s best friend stands Daisy up on the day of their wedding and disappears, he’s there to help her pick up the pieces. However, the two of the, unbeknownst to the other is head over heels for the other. They fight their way through their feelings and past his friends family to each other. Max’s family meanwhile is team Daisy and Max all the way! I am loving this series, can’t wait to go back and pick up the ones I missed at the beginning of the series!,.

I loved Max! He was such a good man. After a pregnant Daisy’s fiancé runs out on their wedding, Max is there to help her. He has had feelings for her from the day they met, but she was his friend’s girl. He went out of his way to make sure she was taken care of and made her feel special. I was so mad at Todd; not for calling off the wedding, but for how he made her feel. Loved the chemistry between Max and Daisy. So glad to see the cousins get their stories!.

Max has always loved Daisy from afar because his friend got her first. He has always been there for Daisy even behind the scenes and when she needs him the most he steps in with a marriage of convenience proposal. Max was so swoonworthy with his care for Daisy’s well being. And man, can he bring the heat. I loved watching as they grew individually and as a couple. As always, the Kinkade family is one I want to be apart of. Can’t wait for the next in this series.
