A Yakuza demigod lurks in the city, wounded but not defeated, and Vince needs to bring her down for good. He needs a team fit for slaying a god, even if he has to ask for favors from old bosses and cross boundaries to build it.
Aulfair's powerful conglomerates prepare for the implosion of one of their own. Civil war brews within the mystic fox clans, and everyone is staking claims, recruiting enforcers, and wining and dining the mayor. Vince discovers he's a hot commodity, as he's far from the lowlife enforcer he once thought he was.
Meanwhile, an ancient fox in Vince's pocket remains an enigma. When Daji asks for a body, can he truly trust her not to betray him like the legends suggest?
This remains one of my favourite current series. This one was longer than I feel was necessary, but it kept my attention. The associations get a bit dizzying in complexity, so that is my first candidate for editing out.
Still not enough to lose a star over. The MC continues to develop, the polycule/harem increases to near ludicrous size, but as time goes on, Vince's appeal to the ladies makes more sense. I look forward to book 6, which may (probably should) be the last one if it's going to end before it gets old. I could of course be wrong on both elements of that, we will see.
I can't believe the 5th entry of a harem series can be so good
Wow.
If you got here, you can either ignore or enjoy the harem and explicit scenes to some degree. If not, know that it's not bad, and that outside of that, it's worth it.
Because this series is so much more than just a harem-sex-action series.
This book continues to capitalize and expand on an amazingly layered world building that is actually almost grim dark if we aren't following the main characters story. It contains ridiculously well crafted intrigued, mysteries, magic, socio-economic philosophy in civilizations both modern and ancient, questions on home and classism and capitalism, political ramifications and consequences, allusions to countless mythologies AND pop culture that it makes them it's own, scheming, constant character growth across every character, plans and heists, comedy, drama, investigations of the nature of humanity and stereotypes of nonhumans, and so much more. All of them tying very well and deeply into the plot and each other, very much a living world. Not to mention amazing editing and grammar, I'm not sure if there's a single typo in this book.
The flaws, by the time you've gotten here, will remain. Vince still has basically a magic dick that almost everyone wants to bone. (It's actually kinda funny when someone asks if he's getting sick of girls wanting to jump his bones). Sex scenes are still close to the same for everyone, with a single exception of the last one. The harem-pride-poly relationship gets really close to having a discussion on how things should actually work, several times... But then pretty much cheaps out/dodges any real emotional and logistical discussion. Honestly that part is kinda annoying cause it make Vince feel kinda lazy/avoidant, especially offloading it to the girls, while it kinda keeps the girls feeling a bit more 2D as to keep them basically happy ish and lacking in any real interpersonal issues - it pretty much preserves the harem fantasy DNA, which kinda sucks cause the world is so alive and breathing, and there's so few harem stories, if any, that really addresses it. (Yes that all have their reasons for being okay with poly and some have more jealousy but still). There's other parts of the book that might irk you, but that's really the biggest gripes personally.
But what it has always been doing right, it does better than ever. Better climaxes (lol), better intrigue, better world building, better banter (I think I enjoyed the banter more than the other books to every degree), better action, more girls officially added to the harem (ymmv), more magic, even more plot. And it's not a short book too, in a good way, outside of scenes /descriptions that you might not care about (from food to house hunting, etc, which honestly still flesh out world and characters), so there's a lot to enjoy at a pace that I don't feel is ever too slow, a plot that drives the characters to multiple climaxes legitimately worth reading and increasing yourself into. I think I actually enjoyed almost every new characters introduced to some degree, while at the same time making previously occurring characters more prominent, interesting, sympathetic, and likeable.
This entry legitimately might be one of the best harem books I've ever read for so many reasons, and if you don't like harem/explicit scenes, it's still actually a really well done book. By the time I get to the 5th book of almost any series, never mind the genre this series in, I'm usually trying to get through it... But wow this book kept me going and blew my mind away and makes me more excited than ever.
I highly congratulate the author on getting this book out, and am pleasantly and unexpectedly more excited than ever to see what comes out in this world. Thank you.
This was another strong entry for the series, and one that seems to have wrapped up the Yakuza Arc.
Something I want to mention that I haven't in previous entries is that I appreciate how the author has included a fair amount of male supporting cast. I'm not a huge harem reader, and maybe I've been unlucky with the few I have read, but something I've commonly seen is that they often lack quality male characters. Any other male tends to be a rival, with no redeeming qualities, they are usually just arrogant and possibly rapists that the MC needs to put down.
While there are easily two female characters for every male in this series, we have a good variety with Vince's childhood friend and bro Ronin the police officer, then Quentis the demon who almost seems a surrogate father figure, along with many others.
Likewise, the antagonists in the story are often female and not merely sex targets.
I never would have guessed that my favorite series in the first quarter of 2026 would be a harem of all things, but here we are. The characters are fun, the worldbuilding is great, and the magic system is interesting and consistent within the world. I'll be curious to see where the story goes next now that the Yakuza plot has resolved.
This was another outstanding addition to this series, and keeps it firmly planted as one of the best in the genre.
A lot happens in this lengthy novel. The harem officially grows by 1, and another is seriously considering joining. Things have aligned for the MC and his friends to take out some major thorns in their sides. Some epic battles are included, often touch and go at times, and really shows that teamwork is what matters. While the MC may be powerful, many of his foes are much more powerful than he is, and he's have zero chance against them alone.
As someone who has read every single book by this author except his very first cancelled series, and has loved all of them, this book definitely left me conflicted. The series itself is amazing, but this book definitely felt like a let down. For so many pages so little happened, and the downtime moments between the characters which are usually a huge plus felt forgettable unfortunately.
Most HLit novels tend to be flighty and more focused on apice or SoL elements. This series cranks the action and thrills to eleven and keeps you begging for more. Now a looming civil war, a sneaky ninja wanting to make our hero a general and what will his old boss want from his mobster gf. Can't wait to see what he has within him as well. Here's hoping the next book is just as crazy as this one was.
Another home run. Once again, KDR mixes political intrigue, intense action, character drama, and genuine romance into a beautiful blend. If you’re at this point in the series, you’re probably already hooked, so you don’t need convincing. But you can certainly get excited. Because this is gonna blow you out of your seat.
Another hit by K.D Robertson, as I’ve come to expect all his books just hit right but this one especially in my opinion was the best one out of the whole series, the character interactions are always well written and the action scenes are just a thrill to read and imagine. Thanks for another amazing book author
Every story/series this author has written has been a joy to read but this one is exceptionally entertaining!!! An outstanding world, full of amazing characters to keep the reader highly engaged in the story!!! I can't wait for more in this series!!!
I appreciate the writings of KD Robertson. The story of course added new characters and fleshed them out as interesting individuals. I found Hamlin to be remarkable. I have had a suspicion about Quintus Herum that I'm curious to see if I'm correct. As always after reading a mob sorcery book I am curious about the next keep up the good work
End of the “first arc” apparently, and I can’t really complain. It’s a big book and stays busy the whole time. There is a lot of maneuvering going on in the background, so some sections get very exposition heavy. We are left with plenty of unanswered questions and many ladies are still waiting in the wings, so I’m pretty bummed to wait for the next volume.
This was an excellent book to cap off this 'arc'. The storyline was tight and the battles were suitably epic. Our characters are all finding their place and settling down next to each other. These books have all been five stars but this one has been the best of the five.
Really enjoying this series but please Mr. Author or editor pacify my inner pedant and change "shined" to "shone". "Shined" should only be applied to the process involved in making leather, metal, etc gleam. Okay pedant attack over as you were.
This entire series is amazing and continues to push forward. It’s a definite page turner and will keep you up at night just turning pages because it is that good.
This is a fantastic series and this entry is no exception. The series is still fast paced, witg a great balance of relationships and action and enough humor to lighten the dark moments. Five stars.
Excellent series, not the average harem books, much, much more! Great action, humour, nuanced characters, clever plot twists, and just the right level of spice. High Recommended.
This is a fine fantasy harem adventure novel. It is well written and edited. I especially like the necromancer mouse woman. I anxiously await the sequel.
I'm mad at the ending but I loved the rest of it. I think Vince has too many girlfriends that don't like to share though. The cattiness amongst them is a little annoying.
I've been saving this to read for the weekend as I want to binge it. It's very long so a good 2-3 days of book here. I also have been saving it as I don't know when I will see another series that works this well for me. The authors other series has me optimistic, but this has left that void feeling behind. The series will continue at some point, 3-5 years from now most likely.
We get a good satisfying point to stop at, the main mystery about the mmc doesn't get answered...and I'm worried about harem sprawl now, lots of members already. The plot armor was also a little crazy here, grunts get cut in half instantly, but the important characters all have 'barriers' to magically protect them lol.
