While it seems obvious to consider coaching to be a specific kind of teaching, I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a book like this, one that not only makes that connection explicit but then digs into theory and application of educational research. The authors do a great job of getting into the implications of treating coaching as an educational endeavor. As a result of framing coaching as education in the purest sense, they recognize that coach education needs to be treated differently than it has been so the last section of the book is dedicated to how coaches should treat their own learning. This book will be a revelation to most coaches and coach educators since they rarely have a background in education. But that’s exactly why this book is so necessary.
