There is something comforting when reading a book set in the city you live in. Denley, an Ottawa Journalist has made good as a crime author and brings Ottawa to life in the pages of Kill Day.

Kill Day is the third in the Kris Redner series, Redner is a real crime novelist who is drawn back into journalism when a local newspaper gets a revamp and Redner is asked to join the staff.

Kill Day is based in downtown Ottawa where I live and Denley points out all the locales residents will be aware of. Denley also describes the ugly winter weather Ottawa normally gets, this however made me anxious for the weather that will be here in a few weeks.

So let’s talk about the story, it is fast moving and gets a few twists that move the direction of the plot unexpectedly. The book leads off with the discovery of the death of a journalist when he doesn’t show for the relaunch of the paper he works for. The plot involves current events and these are woven in the novel nicely by Denley.

I read Kill Day over the Thanksgiving Weekend and enjoyed every turn of the page, I think crime novel readers will also like this.
