In a universe full of heartless aliens, an abandoned human and a vampire clone discover an unexpected connection in this delightfully bite-size short story by New York Times bestselling author Ruby Dixon.
Dana, the overlooked human pet of an alien scientist, and Vlad, a genetically engineered vampire with a taste for more than just blood, find themselves unexpectedly alone on a deserted space station. As they plot their escape, they’ll have to navigate cramped quarters, steamy encounters, and the growing realization that they might be each other’s perfect match. But with their captors in hot pursuit, will their budding romance survive the vast emptiness of space?

These seductive stand-alone stories blend chills and heat in the perfect Halloween treat—each designed to be devoured in one sitting.
Ruby Dixon is an author of Science Fiction Romance. She likes fated mates, baby-filled epilogues, and cinnamon roll heroes. She also likes to write biographies of herself in the third person, because it feels more important that way.
Ruby also loves coffee and dirty books and will probably be a cat lady at some point. :)
Well, I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I mean he's a space vampire, how could I not! It was fun and they were such a unique couple.
Dana is a human pet for an alien, living on a space station, until a monster escaping forces the whole station to evacuate and she gets left behind. She and Vlad, the vampire clone they were experimenting on, become friends and begin to plan their escape. They were really hot together, I loved them. There were some weird moments, some funny ones and some that were very fun.. She lets him bite her and that was *chefs kiss*. Dana was a little childish at the beginning, but so smart and resourceful and Vlad was adorable.
I really loved the setting, but once again, this was rushed. I think showing us a few moments during that week would've made this novella a lot more believable. Their connection was great, and so was their chemistry, but I wanted to see more moments of them just being together. The spicy scenes were very hot and bloody though.
Excuse me?????.....this book actually just rocked my shit. Space vampire daddy at the top of my monster book bfs for real. I have yet to read a Ruby Dixon book that I didn't hate, so this was the biggest surprise of the week. Short and sweet, this was just the perfect little slice of paranormal goodness. 🚀🪐❤️
maybe i just really am truly in my scifi era, but i had a good time with this. dana, a slave to the head scientist on this space ship, is left behind while the whole crew flees for their lives from a monster. meanwhile, said monster is stuck in the lab that he was created in. they work together, through their current situation, but also through past trauma that was done to them at the hands of these awful people who will be coming back to collect their ship sooner rather than later.
this is so niche, but this was truly giving rimworld (and the dlcs) for me! a lab created vampire and enslaved humanoid are forced to leave via escape pod and find a new habitable planet?! this was giving a new colony, without the hours, upon hours of gametime played!
but, much like finishing iced planet barbarians, i still believe that this author likes draenei in wow, because what do you mean i am reading about another alien mc with blue skin and a tail?! but, i will choose to look past that in 2025, because i really did enjoy this one a lot. (maybe i will finally try that beautiful minotaur book i see every time i am at barnes!)
content warning at the start of the short story: explicitly sexual content, strong language, violence, enslaved characters (nothing bad happens on page), discussions on gene tampering, and a character who drinks blood in space
additional content and trigger warning i found while reading: talk of torture in past and mention of abduction in past
Space Vampire was exactly what I was hoping for! Having read Ruby Dixon before, I knew I was in for a fun, quick, and entertaining read and this definitely delivered. It’s short, fast-paced, and super engaging. The characters were easy to get into, the romance was spicy, and the whole vibe was just so enjoyable. If you like Dixon’s other books, you’ll definitely love this one.
I KNOW YOU SEE THE 5 🌟 AND ARE QUESTIONING ME, but listen you have to understand… I haven’t read an alien romance in a while, and when I finally do after a long break, I get hooked. And this novella hooked me innnn 🪐
Dana is a human on a space station trapped with a vampire alien like, come on?! That sentence alone is already hotttt 🥵 The smut was spicy, the plot was simple, and the two-hour audiobook flew by!!!
Fangs, tail, and smut; what else do you need?! 🌝

🖤 Bookish Thoughts There is a reason that Ruby Dixon is an auto buy author! Everything she writes is hilarious. Space Vampire was no exception! I honestly just wish that it was a full length book.
💫 Fave Quote “I’ve been home since the moment I met you.” She mouths, I love you, and I kiss her because those are the rules.
Dana (30) is on a ship after being abducted and treated like a pet and she’s abandoned, but she’s not alone. In fact, she’s heard the monster that was created make such a ruckus she doesn’t know what to think. A male approaches and she gives him the sad news- they’ve been left alone, but not quite alone since something else is with them 😬.
And that’s when she finds out that the male that approached her is the one making all that noise 🤣🫣.
Vlad is a cloned vampire 😅 (yeah. I’d never think I’d ever write those lines either 🤣🤣🤣) and he needs blood. When he was going crazy, he was urgently looking for blood, but wasn’t able to find any.
But then again, there’s a beautiful female on the ship that has MORE than enough blood for him 👀.
Hmmm. I wonder what’s gonna happen 👀
What I liked/looooved: SPOILERS —the 🔥. So far, I’ve read 3 of the novellas, and this is the spiciest one 😮💨. I love me a male that always makes sure his female feels 💦 and Vlad is no different 👏🏻
—he’s a V! 🥹 gaaaahh. I love it when the H is 👏🏻that means the heroine is EXTRA special ❤️
—the world building 👏🏻. I wish we had more of this world 👏🏻
—how concerned he is for her 🫶🏻. Sure. She’s his food sources, but he actually wants her to live and be with him❤️
—their escape 👀
What I wanted more of: —length 😭
—for it to be longer 😭
—for it to be a full length book 😭
—further into their futures to see their HEAs
Overall, I LOOOOOOVED IT 🥹🫶🏻❤️❤️❤️

3.25⭐️ went in looking for a fun time and was not disappointed so a win is a win now that i got that out of the way nothing is stopping me from complaining, but have no fear my only problem was the pacing, i feel like it could have been 20 pages longer if it meant it wasn't so rushed. i liked the plot and the characters so that didn't overshadow the rest of the book and now for some quotes: ╰┈➤She’s not going to suffer. Not under my watch. ╰┈➤“I like all of you, but I especially like you greedy and demanding.” ╰┈➤“I’ve been home since the moment I met you.”
thank you for you attention🤸♂️
pre-read: continuing this series out of order🤭 also dual pov?? sign me up
Thoughts This was such a fun weird read lol I loved the unique character dynamic and the plot overall the idea of Diana; a human pet for an alien stuck in space with a vampire clone they were experimenting on, work together to plan an escape. I did feel as though the ending yet again ended abruptly/ was a tad rushed but still entertaining
Plot Summary Dana, long dismissed as little more than an alien’s pet, finds herself marooned on a silent space station with Vlad, a vampire born of genetic design. As the two plot their escape, enforced proximity stirs an unlikely spark—but with their captors closing in, their newfound bond may prove as perilous as the void itself.
Loved this bite (pun intended) of a book! It gave me Bad Guy/Worse Guy vibes in the best way.
The h is an abducted human who's resilient and thinks on her feet. She also has a petty side that I ate up. The H is a cloned/spliced gladiator newly created and is assessing himself and the world around him. Loved how both endeared themselves to each other from their first meeting. Was it convenient in places? Yes. But there’s a space vampire, a feisty human, an action plan, the right amount of steaminess for the length of the book and their setup (IMO), and a cute HFN. I do wish the ending had a touch more to see how they adjusted beyond the initial moments of their safety. I was still ok with where we left off though and I’d love to see these two as side characters somehow in someone else’s book.
This was a lot of fun. So many times, I’ve seen authors choose the safe route with monster, cryptid, and alien-based eroticas. Like all that build up and all those interesting plot points, only to see very pedestrian sexual encounters. Bunmer, dudes. But some writers crack that mold and make something truly unique, exploring what fun it can be to have two different species bump uglies. And here, Ruby Dixon did just that. An enjoyable premise, dynamic characters, lots of sensual build up, distinct and alluring sex, playful banter, all while balancing everything just right, keeping the overarching plot intact. And, back to the sex, it wasn’t overly relied upon or graphic. This is the type of story that could appeal to fans of several genres, from science fiction to romance and horror. Again, not many authors can accomplish that feat. This was my first read from Ruby Dixon, but Peter Topside is game for more.
For some reason I expected something related to fall (don't ask why) but it only had a fleeting mention about Halloween costumes. Nevertheless it didn't make my reading experience any less entertaining. It is a charming little story that leaves you with a nice feeling despite being so short therefore not really any depth in the story or the characters.
3.5 stars. I think I have to give this a lot of credit just for being unique.
I mean, this plot is different from... pretty much anything I have read to date. Though that may be because I've not delved into the Alien/Si-Fi sort of genre before.
I didn't love it? But I also didn't hate it? It was definitely fine.
Somewhere in my mind, there is a Venn diagram that overlaps the romance and fantasy genres, and unfortunately for me alien vampires do not make the cut. 🤷🏼♀️
Vampires? Yes. 500-year-old Fae? You betcha. Wolves? Yes please. Whatever species Cassian is? Mama like.
Sci-Fi/Aliens? 100% not for me. (Yet someone explain to me how I loved the TV shows Roswell, Futurama and Xenon growing up?)
The writing was just OK, but my opinion might have more to do with my disdain for futuristic space jargon.
A blue alien vampire with a tail and red eyes?? Hello?? Why do I find this so hot?? My imagination was running wild, and Vlad is definitely one of the hottest in my mind. This ended up being one of my favourites in the series. The romance, the spice, the escape-and-plan dynamic... everything was so fun to read about. I couldn’t get enough of them! Now I need to get my greedy hands on Ruby Dixon’s big blue alien books because clearly I’ve been missing out on gems.
