Once a promising competitive swimmer, twenty-one-year-old Mason Burke never imagined his life would look like this.
After a family crisis pulled him back to his hometown, he’s now a college dropout working as a lifeguard on the shores of Lake Michigan, scraping by on bills while raising his teenage sister.
Then Hunter Davis shows up.
A botany graduate student, Hunter’s in town for the summer to research lakeshore plants. But it feels like his real mission is to get under Mason’s skin, and it’s working.
Mason tells himself he doesn’t have time for distractions—especially ones with pretty eyes, a sharp tongue, and a smile he can’t seem to stop noticing. As the summer heats up, so does the tension between them.
It’s clear the beach isn’t big enough for the two of them… and neither is Mason’s carefully guarded heart.

This was a very sweet book! I loved Mason and Hunter. Mason deals with a lot of family issues and Hunter has his own with his family. They are sweet together and their relationship grew slowly but they supported each other.
I think a lot of the conflicts both Mason and Hunter had were solved except for Hunter and his father. I guess that wasn’t as big of a deal for Hunter as the issues with his brother were. The overall issues were plentiful but didn’t distract you from the overall story.
I hope this author writes more stories. It would be interesting to see what else she has to offer.
This was such a cute, original queer romance story. Using Lake Michigan as the main setting for the book was a creative way to bring the MCs---Mason and Hunter---together, despite their disparate interests and life experiences. Mason's internal struggle--- vascillating between pursuing his career path and providing for his sister---intersects with Hunter's grapplings with loneliness and feelings of inadequacy in a perfect summery storm. The will-they-won't-they sexual tension and romantic chemistry simmers through the pages, giving us alternating steamy scenes and cold shoulders until the end. This was such a fun read brimming with fabulous and diverse characters, and I'd highly recommend it to lovers of MM romances/HEAs, to fans of the friends-with-benefits-to-lovers trope, and to anyone trying to cling to the last dregs of the year's summery vibes.
I was so excited when I was approved to get the ARC for Singing Sands. I just knew that I was going to like it.
And, well, I more than liked it - I LOVED it!
Singing Sands is a contemporary MM romance about two guys who meet at the lake and don't immediately like each other. Eventually, they begin talking more, decide to start up a FWB situationship, and then, yes, fall in love. So sweet! 😍
I really fell in love with Mason. I don't want to get into details because I don't want to spoil anything, but he has such a beautiful heart. He tries to take care of everyone around him while desperately yearning for so much more. The way he treats Hunter just made me kick my feet and squeal into my pillow. Seriously, these two!! 🥰
I appreciate that the author, @c.l.blossomwrites, didn't hold back with the science-y stuff. Did I know exactly what everything was? No, but it was explained enough for me to get the idea. It fit into Hunter's personality and felt perfectly placed in the book.
And I want to mention, these two are hot. Like, sexy enough to burn the page! This is an open-door romance, and it burns! Whew. 🔥🔥
There are some topics that could be triggers: discussion of suicide and mental health, death, cancer, addiction, and abusive relationships. I hope they don't scare you off because C.L. Blossom writes about these with intention and care, and they all make sense in the story.
So GO, READ IT! It's available now on Amazon and KU. Check out clblossom.com for books and other goodies!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book and can’t wait for others to read about Mason and Hunter ❤️
Mason and Hunter swear their relationship is only for fun in the summer but we all know how that goes 🤷🏻♀️ (of course I gobble it up every time)
The emotions were high and the spice was plentiful, I had so much fun reading this sweet summer romance. My only complaint would be that all the conflict was resolved too fast for my liking. Not something that made me want to stop reading but definitely an “unrealistic” quirk I noticed.
As someone from Ohio it made my heart happy to see the Midwest romanticized. 🥰 I crave more midwestern settings
Thank you so much C.L. Blossom for the ARC! I wanted to read this ever since I got an advertisement for it on Instagram, so thank you again for the opportunity to read it before it comes out.
Now, my opinions on this are kind of split 50/50 on loving it and just simply finding it ok. I found Mason and Hunter pretty cute, and I loved how their relationship developed, especially in the last hundred pages or so. Now FWB is not a trope I exactly like, and I didn’t know that was what their relationship mainly was when I started this, but it definitely bridged the gap from just sex to a romantic connection pretty quickly, so I didn’t mind it that much.
Romance books nowadays tend to have a lot of sex in them and this one is no exception. There is a large amount of sex scenes in this and there came a point, especially in Part 2, where every other chapter had a sex scene. For me, I have never been a fan of multiple sex scenes because I find that I am losing out on the romance and characters building a connection, but I also know that a majority of people tend to like multiple scenes like that, so I am not going to majorly fault a book when I am an outlier. In this, there was a variety in the sex scenes so it did not end up feeling repetitive, which was a nice change from the normal M/M romances that I read.
My biggest issue with this book was Hunter’s character. Hunter is someone that you don’t ever really get the chance to know. His whole storyline for the first 3/4 of this book all revolves around Mason. His research on plants is barely addressed and when he starts having a paragraph or scene about his research it is quickly moved away from when he notices Mason or Mason comes over to him. His other storylines, including his ex Travis and not wanting to go home to his parent’s house to celebrate his birthday, are all told through Mason’s POV sections along with those plot lines being done in only a few pages. Hunter’s whole plot and identity is about Mason. If he is stressed, it is about Mason. If he is anxious, it’s about Mason. If he is happy it is because of Mason. He never gets the chance to experience anything in this book without Mason being involved or the cause. Part 4, which is Hunter’s last POV section, has a lot of character development and plot development for him, but it just sucks that it all happens in the last 50 pages of this. Mason has major storylines that are throughout every section of this and those storylines are away from, and not about, Hunter.
I think that this would not have been as noticeable if Mason and Hunter alternated chapters. There are events and scenes that are major for them, but they are consistently told from the other’s POV. Mason’s first court case to get custody of Maddie, briefly mentioned in Hunter’s POV. Hunter’s birthday party where is spiraling, told through Mason’s. The biggest part of Mason’s storyline, which I won’t say because it is a spoiler, is all told through Hunter’s POV. All of these emotional scenes and arcs are always told from the other’s POV, which robs you of any insight into the character’s emotions or thoughts about any of these situations, so you never witness the real development of them. Even the first 120 pages you never even know Hunter as a character really because he doesn’t get his own section or voice until Part 2. This really should have been written with them alternating chapters because of the lack of emotional arc for either of them and because of missing out on the major moments of their storylines.
There is a lot here that could have worked better, but for what it is, it is simply fine. I enjoyed my time reading this, and would 100% check out what C.L. writes next, but for me this had a lot of missed potential. The foundation was here for an emotional journey, but I never felt truly connected to either Mason or Hunter. I never felt like I fully got to know either of them and it left me with butterflies in my stomach, but I never got to feel them flutter.
Getting to read this book early as a first time arc reader, really made me excited to dive into this book. Growing up in WI, and knowing about the towns around Lake Michigan, reading this book felt like home. Almost a love letter for growing up in the Midwest.
This story follows Mason and Hunter, two people that are opposites of each other. The jock x nerd trope is the perfect dynamic for them. Mason comes across as the total asshole, but has a heart of gold. Hunter, this nerd, in love with plants, is a spit fire but also the type that will talk with people. For me, along with the jock x nerd trope, we get the black cat x golden retriever trope as well.
Starting off a little rocky, their friendship blooms to a summer fling, but both of them start feeling emotions deeper than they anticipated, but both did not want to tell each other how they felt. Knowing that this was only going to end at the end of summer when Hunter was headed back to school for the fall. Mason ended up pushing Hunter away and that’s where Mason finally realizes, with the help of some people close to him, so step up and choose himself for once and get Hunter back.
I can’t wait to read more about Mason and Hunter because these boys buried a hole into my heart 🖤
I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC from C.L. Blossom… thank you!!
Ahhh!! Ok where do I start? As an avid MM romance reader, this hit the freaking spot! I’m usually not a fan of FWB to lovers, but the execution of this story was fantastic. On top of that, both of our MMC’s (Mason and Hunter) were just so dang likable, I found myself smiling like a fool for the majority of this book. This story was so sweet, but also emotional… I almost cried like 5 times towards the end. I truly appreciated how real-life stressors (like finances, illness, and family dynamics) were portrayed. Both Hunter and Mason went through a lot, but I am so proud of them for what they overcame. All in all, this one completely won me over. It’s the kind of story that sneaks up on you and leaves your heart full (and maybe your eyes a little teary). Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for something sweet, real, and full of heart.
ARC Review: Singing Sands was such a cute story. Taking place in Lake Michigan, our first MC Mason is back in his home town after a family crisis pulls him out of college. He is back working as a Lifeguard. Our other MS Hunter is a grad student who is staying in Lake Michigan for the summer to complete his research on the lakeshore plants. Both MCs are closed off to relationships for their own reason. Their will they won't they had me on the edge of my seat, but the pay of was worth it. Once their friends with benefits started boy was it steamy. Seeing how both of them worked and navigated through their hangup and struggles with being in a relationship felt real. I can't wait for some more Mason and Hunter!
Singing Sands is C.L. Blossom’s debut novel, and I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised.
The story follows Mason, a 22-year-old local lifeguard at one of Lake Michigan’s beaches, and Hunter, a grad student spending the summer in town studying the lakeshore flora.
They couldn’t be more different, Mason is your classic jock, a former swimmer and very athetic, while Hunter is nerdy, small, and delicate.
But despite their differences, both are dealing with some heavy stuff. Mason had to quit college, where he was studying political science on an athletic scholarship, to return home and take care of his little sister after their depressed, addicted single mother tried to . All of this while dealing with type A Diabetes. He works himself to the bone to support his family, always putting himself last.
Meanwhile, Hunter comes from a wealthy family where he feels like an outsider, thanks to his career and lifestyle choices. Plus, he’s recovering from an abusive relationship, which makes him super insecure.
Mason and Hunter are instantly attracted to each other, and while they try to fight it at first, they eventually decide to get together, even though they set an end date, planning to simply enjoy the summer and then go their separate ways.
Of course, feelings develop, and both become attached, dreading the day they’ll have to say goodbye.
I really love the pace of the story and how the relationship develops in a very realistic way. Their physical connection comes easily, but they both put up a lot of walls to protect themselves from heartbreak. There’s a little self-sabotage from both sides, but I appreciate that misunderstandings don’t drag on, and both characters are pretty good at communicating.
The author describes the novel as a love letter to Lake Michigan, and you can totally tell, the place isn’t just a backdrop, it’s a key part of the book . The settings are important to the moments that happen, and it makes for a really fun way to tell the story.
I really enjoyed it. Almost every aspect is well developed and gets satisfying closure.
There are some sad, tough moments, but at the end of the day, Mason and Hunter’s love is strong enough to weather all the storms together, which makes the conclusion so fulfilling.
I can’t wait to read more from this author, supposedly this is just the first book in an upcoming series, and that’s super exciting!
*I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review*
I got absolutely lost in this book and demolished it in less than a day. I loved it so so much!
Mason, our incredible hedgehog (thanks to his bestie for that one, which sums him up perfectly) – once you crack his shell, how could anyone not love this absolute sweetheart? His fierce loyalty and devotion to his mother and sister said so much about his character, and I was practically in love with him from the offset. He had so much on his shoulders, supporting his family; for so long he couldn’t seem to catch a break, though he puts on a brave front for his sister, and I had a lot of admiration for that.
If I didn’t love Mason enough, he also shows how darn thoughtful and considerate he is, reassuring and complimenting Hunter plenty even before he learns of the latter’s insecurities. I also love that our gorgeous lifeguard seems to remember everything that Hunter has said or done even if he doesn’t understand it. So yeah, I guess it’s safe to say, I’m rather attached to his character!
That’s not to say I don’t love Hunter too. He’s quite quirky, with his passionate love of plants and environment, but it made him all the more adorable! I love how far he comes with his confidence though the book, and so enjoyed the names he’s given his plants – those puns made me chuckle.
I actually really enjoyed Mason and Hunter’s initial awkward exchanges. While I did slightly cringe at them, I could imagine them IRL and they were so relatable.
I took great pleasure in seeing their relationship grow and seeing them open up to each other. As their inevitable feelings develop, so does the tenderness and I inhaled those sweet moments between them greedily. I love their differences but also how much they appreciate each other for exactly who they are.
And the besties, Aliyah and Derek, were awesome too, providing humour and reliable solid advice – even if it happens to be a Disney quote! If it works, it works.
This book has so much within its pages: love, loss, healing, strength, growth, acceptance. There’s personal struggles and family conflict as well as family healing. I absolutely loved the ending as it wraps everything up in a way that made my heart very happy!
An amazing debut from this author! I will be keeping an eager eye out for what’s coming next from her.
--------- Some quotes I loved: “You’re... so fucking beautiful, Hunter. You don’t have to change anything. Not for me. Not for anyone.”
“You make me forget how heavy life can be.”
“I’m going to spend all summer showing you how beautiful you are. And when you go back to Shelby Harbor in the fall, you’ll be a confident piece of ass.”
“You’re so beautiful. I wish you could see yourself the way I do.”
“Thank you, sunshine. For taking me here. For remembering my favorite flower. For... everything.”
Walking out of the coffee shop, I realize I don’t just feel like I’m surviving. I feel like I’m beginning to grow again, like roots pressing deeper into the soil, reaching for stability, leaves stretching toward the light. I can’t wait to see what blooms.
Where to even begin? I came across this author and this work and was ready for an easy and breezy summer fling. Like our two MCs here, I I got way more—and I am incredibly grateful for it!
This is an incredible MM romance full of depth and texture I often find myself yearning for in a book. I was immediately gripped by Mason and intrigued by Hunter.
As the story progressed, I enjoyed the diversity included in the book, especially given where the story takes place. There were threads of today’s socio and political climate that were not the main focus of the story but I appreciated the acknowledgement and how it contributes to each characters’ lived experience. It made the story and characters rich and genuine.
I love Blossom’s writing, and found that there was a perfect balance of language and plot, creating a multi-layered text I did not want to put down, but I also wanted to savor it. I must have highlighted like 65% of this book.
The romance and relationship journey of Mason and Hunter is written SO WELL and I love these two so much. Who each MC is outside of their relationship was also equally intriguing and there aspects of their lives that will def take you on a journey in your feels.
I always maintain that sex in romance is usually about something else in in this case, you really get a sense of their growing intimacy, trust, and ability to achieve freedom in one another. It’s beautiful to read and yes, also super hot.
Overall, this is an insanely beautiful story that I won’t be shutting up about for a long time - and is a book I will be rereading in the near future.
Seriously DO NOT HESITATE, this book is FANTASTIC!
“And that’s when it hits me with irrevocable certainty. Hunter’s a complete nerd- and I’m completely in love with him.” . . Singing Sands is a debut novel penned by author CL Blossom. It follows the story of Mason Burke, a former competitive swimmer, and Hunter Davis, a botany grad student. Set in the small coastal Michigan town of Clermont Shores, these two couldn’t be more opposite. Hunter is a nerd who comes from a wealthy family but lives in his popular twin brother’s shadow. Mason is a competitive swimmer who abruptly dropped out of college to take care of his younger sister.
Mason’s primary job is lifeguarding at the local lake, and it is here that he meets Hunter. Hunter finds himself at Clermont Shore’s beach studying the Pitcher’s Thistle for his graduate research. While it’s not exactly a meet-cute, it does put the two on one another’s radar.
A passionate kiss turns into what initially is just a summer fling. As their story and feelings develop, Mason and Hunter find themselves falling for one another. There are just a few problems. Hunter is returning to school in the fall, and Mason isn’t out yet.
Singing Sands can best be described as a cozy summer romance. From fireworks on the beach to a quaint burger joint, CL Blossom sets the ambience of a coastal Michigan town. In Hunter and Mason, she’s written a love story that had me both swooning and bawling like a baby.
Take, for example, Hunter keeping extra Smarties on him for when Mason’s sugar gets low. Maybe it’s how Mason made it his mission to continually remind Hunter how beautiful he is, even when he doesn’t feel it. There was no shortage of romantic moments in Singing Sands. Also not lacking was the spice and palpable chemistry between Mason and Hunter. From stolen kisses off the trail to passionate nights in Hunter’s bed, there is a plethora of intimate moments in Singing Sands.
For me, I most enjoyed the evolution of Mason and Hunter as a couple and individuals. In Mason’s case, after bearing an enormous amount of responsibility, seeing him do what’s best for both him and his sister was heartwarming. Furthermore, in Hunter’s situation, I loved that he made amends with his brother whilst speaking his truth. I loved that with one another, they could be apologetically themselves and open.
Overall, I found Singing Sands to be an enjoyable read. If I can do anything, it would be to give the utmost praise to CL Blossom for crafting (what I found to be) a love letter to cozy summer romances and coastal Michigan. With that said, I look forward to Blossom’s future projects and highly encourage you to add this gem to your tbr.
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Singing Sands by C.L. Blossom
This book is a stunning and emotional debut that completely captured my heart. It’s a powerful New Adult romance that isn’t afraid to tackle heavy real-life struggles, all while weaving a beautiful story of love and resilience.
We meet Mason, a 21-year-old lifeguard who feels like his life has already stalled. Back in his small, judgmental hometown after a family emergency forced him to drop out of college, he’s now barely scraping by, working to support his mother and teenage sister. My heart ached for Mason from the start. He’s a beautifully written, complex character, jaded, overwhelmed, and carrying a weight no young person should have to bear, all while grappling with his identity in a place that doesn't feel accepting.
The story truly ignites when Mason meets Hunter, an adorable and endlessly curious botany student. Mason, all rough edges and defensive walls, immediately writes Hunter off as just another privileged vacationer. Hunter, meanwhile, is a charming nerd who says exactly what he’s thinking. The initial friction between them is fantastic, and the slow-burn journey from animosity to a tender, heart-fluttering crush is an absolute joy to read.
This is a dual POV story, and getting Hunter’s perspective adds incredible depth. We see his own insecurities about his place in his academic family and his nervousness about new relationships. Their chemistry is electric, and the intimate moments between them are filled with a mix of steam and profound vulnerability.
What makes Singing Sands so special is its unflinching honesty. The author portrays the realities of financial stress, family illness, and the fear of the future with a raw authenticity that will resonate deeply. There were moments that brought me to tears, balanced perfectly with moments of pure joy and witty banter, especially from Mason’s best friend, Aliyah.
Singing Sands is more than just a romance; it's a deep story about family, both the one you're born into and the one you choose. It’s about learning to lean on others, forgiving yourself, and finding a love that feels like a safe harbor in a storm. Mason and Hunter’s journey is heartbreaking, heart-mending, and ultimately, incredibly hopeful.
Content Notes: Depictions of parental mental health struggles, financial insecurity, homophobia (in a small-town setting), and chronic illness (Type 1 Diabetes).
5 ⭐️ | 3 🔥 | Jock x Nerd • Black Cat x Golden Retriever • Small Town Summer Romance
Singing Sands is one of those books that sneaks up on you quietly, wraps you in the softest blanket of summer warmth, and then absolutely destroys you with emotion in the best possible way. This story was so wholesome and heartfelt that when I hit the final page, I genuinely sat there upset because I didn’t want Mason and Hunter’s story to end. I could’ve stayed with them forever.
This debut follows Mason Burke, a 21-year-old lifeguard who’s shouldering more responsibility than any young adult should have to; dropping out of college, supporting his family, and trying (and failing) to protect his own heart. He’s rough around the edges, guarded, and completely unaware of how deeply lovable he is.
Then there’s Hunter Davis, the plant-loving, botany-obsessed nerd with a soft soul and a spine of steel when it comes to the things he cares about. He’s brilliant, awkward in the sweetest way, and constantly under the shadow of his high-achieving family. His openness contrasts beautifully with Mason’s walls, and seeing their dynamic unfold is nothing short of magic.
Their first meeting is far from a cute moment, an argument over a protected thistle, but it puts them right in each other’s orbit. What follows is a summer fling that slowly, tenderly becomes something deeper. Their chemistry is electric, but it’s the vulnerability between them that truly shines: the small acts of care, the quiet reassurances, the way they see each other so clearly when no one else does.
C.L. Blossom balances humor, longing, emotional honesty, and small-town atmosphere effortlessly. Fireworks on the beach, stolen kisses on hidden trails, burger joint dates, Mason falling in love with vegetables Hunter cooks for him, the entire book feels like a love letter to summer and to finding someone who makes you feel safe.
I especially loved their individual growth: ✨ Mason learning he deserves more than survival ✨ Hunter finding his voice and reclaiming his confidence ✨ Both choosing each other even when fear makes it hard
This book is tender, funny, romantic, and deeply healing. A true cozy summer romance with real emotional depth, and a debut that proves C.L. Blossom is a writer worth following closely.
Thank you C.L. Blossom for the ARC — I highly recommend grabbing this gem when it releases December 9th. Mason and Hunter will stay with you long after you close the book. 🌿💛🌊
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Mason, a lifeguard at a beach along Lake Michigan, is the kind of character you cant help but root for. After having to drop out of college to care for his sister in the wake of their mothers suicide attempt, Mason feels stuck in the small (and conservative) town he grew up in. Our other main character, Hunter, is a botany student spending his summer researching the plants found on the beach Mason works at. He is also out and proud- something that catches Mason's attention. The two meet and immediately get off on the wrong foot, but as the story progresses you follow them as they go from "enemies", to friends, to more.
Overall, I did enjoy singing sands and if there are any follow up works with these characters in it, I will 100% be picking them up. The only critique for this story is that I wish that some of the important scenes in the later portion of the book had been more developed.
MY OPINION: This was a really sweet story of two men finding comfort and love with each other. You have a little bit of an opposites attract vibe with a science guy—frequently called a nerd—and an athlete. We don’t really see much of the athlete side, though.
This is a debut author, and I feel it was well written. Throughout, I got to know the MCs and the things they struggle with. There was a connection between them and the reader.
Quite a few tropes are involved here: small-town, hurt/comfort, and opposites—there are more. When they go from being grumpy with each other to a summer fling, you know feelings are going to happen. It’s a lovely story with plenty of spice and well-developed characters.
There was something very endearing about Hunter, and the fact that he would be the big spoon was cute. Both men had things to work through, going from being closeted in his hometown to letting people know, even if it meant he would be judged is an example. There is a lot of internal dialog and plenty of figuring out how to be happy. There are some wonderful friends and family, and the reader gets to know them well.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. It ended with an HEA, and you have a full overview of their lives after they are a couple. I wasn’t left with any questions at the end, which I appreciated. I hate wondering about what happened when a book ends. I am glad I got to read this as an ARC.
Holy moly, this was such an amazing read. This is my first Arc read and I couldn’t be anymore grateful for the opportunity. This books was beautiful. Mason and Hunter have such a cute dynamic.
Mason is totally a golden retriever, the care he has for the people he love is the sweetest thing ever. From how protective he is about his sister, to how caring his is with his mom, and of course the amount of love he has for Hunter.
Hunter has major black cat energy but he’s also the character I related to the most. He’s a major nerd with a big heart for the ones closest to him being Mason and plants. I think his knowledge of plants and how compassionate his is about them is really cool and fun.
Throughout this whole story I really felt like I could feel everything the characters felt. I honestly think I was yearning for them to admit their true feelings harder than they were yearning for each other.
The setting of this book was one of the biggest selling point for me. Being someone who lives near Lake Michigan this book felt like spending time with my family going to the beach every summer and exploring with no care in the world. This book was cozy and holds a special place in my heart for real. 🏳️🌈❤️
Honestly, I really loved the book. It was raw and flawed, but real. There’s so much angst and sadness, and both main characters had so much going on. It was just a beautiful journey of watching these two opposites slowly fall deeper in love while not wanting to admit it because they agreed that it was just temporary. There are also so many funny moments; they just... They were just so good for each other, and you could feel it the entire time. It really evoked a whole range of emotions. It was touching and refreshing but soul-crushing at times. It’s also the 1st full-length novel that I've read in a while. I don't know if I've been in like a mini slump because I've only been reading short stories and novellas recently, but this book very much so could have jumpstarted my reading drive. I can't wait to see what else is in store for us.

This was such an adorable and heartfelt M/M romance — and it features one of my favorite tropes: jock/nerd! Mason has been carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders ever since his mom’s suicide attempt forced him to leave school and become the caretaker for his little sister. He works multiple jobs, including lifeguarding on the beach where he meets Hunter — a grad student spending the summer studying endangered plants.
They absolutely do not hit it off at first… but that changes quickly. Their chemistry builds beautifully, and even though their lives are completely different — and Hunter is only in town for the summer — their connection feels real and deep.
This story is a romance, but it’s also so much more. It thoughtfully explores: 💙 self-discovery and acceptance 💙 self-sacrifice and responsibility 💙 complicated family dynamics 💙 grief and loss 💙 substance and emotional abuse and the lasting effects
C.L. Blossom does an amazing job blending sweet, summery vibes with emotional depth. I truly connected with Mason and Hunter, and I would love to read more about them!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
🏍️my thoughts: Y'all. I read this book in less than 12 hours, but I probably would have read it in less time if I didn't have to work and drive, but I swear to god I couldn't put Singing Sands down. If you couldn't tell by the endless amount of quotes (there were more), I LOOOVVVEDDDDDD Mason and Hunter's story. My Shayla's. Honestly I thought this book would be like the anime movie, "The Stranger by the Shore," which it did in a way with being mm, similar looking characters, similar but not the same setting, Singing Sands was different because there wasn't the major age gap and the timing wasn't over a span of a few years, it was the span of a few months. But Singing Sands was beautiful in its own way with the male characters personal troubles, some of which they worked together, and others they had to figure out for themselves (mostly Mason).
I could literally write a novel for how much I admire Mason's character development, Hunter's mannerisms, and the supportive side characters - But I'll let you guys read the book for yourselves and see why I fell in love with Singing Sands, and maybe i will too.
My ONLY issue was with the spicy scenes. I found some of them to be repetitive and a smidge lacking because Mason would continuously put Hunter on his hands and knees and it would have been nice to have a tender face-to-face scene during, or in the shower, or even cowboy. There were difference in the scenes don't get me wrong, but it wasn't that different when Mason was topping.
Though the sex scenes left me wanting more, I still gave this a ♾️🌟 rating and dare say this might be my favorite read of the month - at least so far 😅😅
↓↓ Mason and Hunter were fun to read. Friends with benefits turns in to more. They just can't get enough of each other.
Mason and Hunter fit together seamlessly. It take's awhile for them to get through their emotions and wade through some personal issues but watching them slowly fall in love and form that connection was incredible.
The flow of the book was ok but I would have loved to have Mason's and Hunter's POV together, not separated by part 1 and part 2, and they didn't really add up for me. Certain POV were in Mason's POV but should have also been in Hunter's and really expanded on . Also the conflict was resolved a bit too fast for me.
I can't wait to see what else this author has to offer in the future.

I’ve been eyeing this since I first saw the cover reveal and I’m glad I finally got to get my hands on it! I really enjoyed Hunter and Mason. Hunter was so adorably awkward and Mason was such a grumpy caretaking teddy bear. Both men had their own struggles, Hunter had an ex that did a number on his self-esteem and Mason carried so much weight taking care of his sister and mother. They had a rocky start (and a few moments in between) but eventually got on the same page and it was so cute once they did. The lunch dates at the beach, dinners with ranch dressing and stolen kisses. I loved how much Mason appreciated Hunter’s mind and even helped him with his project and Hunter was so supportive of Mason. I really appreciated how he handled Mason’s diabetes. Doing some research and never making it a big deal as Mason feared. Hunter having smarties on hand for Mason was sweet. I enjoyed this. 💚💙💚
I hate leaving bad reviews for debut authors. I picked this one up because someone gushed about it on the Mm Romance Books subreddit. It wasn’t for me. I found the writing style too simplistic, with immediately spilling the whole backstory replacing tension or nuance.
The prose relies heavily on telling rather than showing, laying out emotions and motivations immediately instead of allowing them to unfold organically. I couldn’t get past that, so I only made it to 15%. To be fair the relationship didn’t even have a chance to develop and I didn’t get to try any of the steam so I can’t even rate that.
What can I say, even though I have thoroughly been sucked down the rabbit hole of mm romance, there is still a wee bit of a literary snob, so this is a pass for me.
Hunter and Mason are just completely adorable. I couldn’t get enough of this book.
Mason is currently a lifeguard. He’s grumpy, tired, overwhelmed and frustrated on how his life turned out because of his mom’s illness and he felt responsible for his teenage sister. To top it off he lives in a small town where he feels like he can’t truly be himself. Then he meets Hunter an adorable nerd who’s into plants and is openly gay. The attraction is there then after one kiss they both can’t get enough. It’s supposed to be a summer romance Hunter will leave at the end of the summer but both end up wanting more. There’s a lot that happens during the summer that tests their relationship and themselves. I really enjoyed this one and I’ll be looking forward to the next book by this author.
I stumbled upon this magnificent book on Instagram when the platform recommended the author's post in my feed. I was immediately intrigued. I signed up for the ARC on the spot.
This book has so many layers and the balance between heavy and light was spot on. I was fully invested in the well being of Mason, his younger sister, and Hunter. My heart ached and it cheered in equal measure. Words cannot express how much I enjoyed this book. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to read it early. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and seeing where the author takes us.
I'm also interested in reading more from this author, in general. For a debut book, it sure didn't read like one. I highly recommend it. I think everyone should read this book! It's just that good.
✨ ARC Review Singing Sands is the kind of cozy, summer fun queer romance that sneaks up on you and leaves your heart full...maybe a little teary, definitely a lot swoony. Things between Mason & Hunter start off with a spark, and they easily slide into FWB territory. The tension, their chemistry & the steamy scenes are absolutely worth the slow burn. And even though we’re into the holiday season, this sweet, emotional story with the summer lake vibes was a perfect addition to mix in with my holiday reading list this year! What a great debut and I am excited to read more from C.L. Blossom!
I liked the book, but at times it felt like the world was against Mason, and it just broke my heart. I picked this one up because it showed up on my Instagram and I'm weak AF and it has a grumpy character (Mason) and I love grumpy but soft characters. Sue me!
Both characters need to overcome their own problems to find love, and that was cute. Maybe it was a on the longer side for this book and a couple pages less would have made reading a bit easier. Still. A lovely story.

Hunter and Mason were so wonderful to get to know. I adored their story so much and loved the various forms of rep we get throughout!
I loved that we get to see them develop individually but also together as the story progressed. Their rocky start to eventual boyfriends was phenomenal; I will say I would have loved to see more of their dynamic at the end, the little glimpses are great but almost don't feel like enough.
I'm intrigued to see what else Blossom plan to write and if there are plans to revisit the amazing characters we see in this book!
