It’s been fourteen years since the gateway to Hell opened and life as I knew it ended.
I managed to survive the Wilds, but now I have a chance to build a better world for all Wilders. Unfortunately, it means working with the demons I’ve always considered my enemies.
Joining with the demons wouldn’t be a horrible prospect, except it means dealing with Corson. Somehow, the irritating demon gets under my skin until I’m not sure if I want to kiss him or kill him. As we grow closer, the more memories of my long-buried past slip free, leaving me unsure of what’s real and what’s not…
Corson
I assumed joining the Wilders to hunt down the creatures that escaped Hell was a job I’d enjoy.
Not only can I kill my enemies, but I also have a chance to get closer to Wren. I wasn’t expecting the stubborn woman to go out of her way to avoid me.
The more time we spend together, the more I realize she might prefer me dead, but there’s nothing I won’t do to keep her safe. However, when a lethal threat rises, I fear keeping Wren alive may be impossible.
Due to violence, language, and sexual content this book is recommended for readers 18+.
Brenda K. Davies is the USA Today Bestselling author of the Vampire Awakening Series, Alliance Series, Road to Hell Series, Hell on Earth Series, and historical romantic fiction. She also writes under the pen name, Erica Stevens. When not out with friends and family, she can be found at home with her husband, son, dogs, cat, and horse.
This is a spin-off The Road to Hell series. I love that series and this one is interesting enough to me to carry on reading the other books in this series.
14 years since the gateway between Hell and Earth was opened and the contours of human life/civilisation has never been the same, nor has it been the same for the Demons who found themselves on earth after they closed the gateway. Human Wren (aka a Wilder) is determined to keep her distance from Demon Corson, they may be forced to work together in order to survive but as far she’s concerned that’s the end of their relationship. Corson for his part, finds himself unable to stop thinking about the prickly and standoffish Wilder he craves more and more.
This was an ok read, light and easy. I love romances involving demons etc but I have to say this read didn’t ensnare my attention like I wanted to… at all. The relationship development between Wren and Corson, didn’t have the intensity and heat I wanted. Honestly the best description I can give this story is that it was nice enough.
Hell on Earth is a spin-off to The Road to Hell series. While it can technically be read without prior knowledge, I strongly recommend reading the main series first. Many of the characters are introduced and the emotional weight and overall impact of this story work much better if you’re already familiar with the world and its history.
Wren has agreed to work alongside demons in an effort to overthrow Lucifer, even though she still instinctively views them as enemies. This distrust extends to most of the Wilders, who have survived by staying hidden while the war between humans and demons raged on. Now, Wren, the Wilders, Corson, and a small group of demons have joined forces to hunt down the remaining creatures that escaped Hell—and hopefully find more human survivors along the way. Although Wren understands that allying with demons may be necessary, it also means dealing with Corson. Somehow, the irritating demon gets under her skin, and she can’t decide whether she wants to get closer to him… or kill him.
What I liked
• Most of the original cast (apart from Kobal and River) make an appearance, and the overarching storyline continues rather than feeling detached from the main series. • I especially enjoyed the beginning, when it was just Wren and Corson. It gave them a solid opportunity to get to know each other. • For Wren to overcome her deep-rooted distrust of demons, isolating her with Corson felt like the only believable way to make that growth happen. • Going through all the phases of Wren’s transition was genuinely interesting. We learned a bit about this process through Hawk before, but this book finally adds more depth.
What I didn't like
• While I liked the idea of them being trapped in complete darkness, slaughtering an extremely dangerous, multi-headed creature it didn’t feel very believable. That was too over the top even for my imagination. • I wanted a deeper, more compelling emotional connection between Wren and Corson. Their chemistry never fully landed for me, and the smut scenes felt fairly average.
I was genuinely excited to finally get a story centered on Corson, as he’s such an intriguing character. I also wasn’t a big fan of Wren’s character. Unfortunately, while this was a good and enjoyable read, it didn’t quite reach the level of “great” that I had hoped for. Next up is Hawk’s story.
In the Road to Hell series ,Brenda K Davies created a world in which most humans believe theat most of the Earth had been destroyed by nuclear war. We soon learn the truth, the world was not totally destroyed but had been taken over by creatures surfacing from the bowels of hell. This is where we meet Corson, he is from hell and came to Earth to follow Kobal, the King of Hell, in hopes of closing the gateway that humans accidentally opened. I really liked Corson from the beginning, he is fierce, funny, loyal and is a very popular with the ladies, both human and demon. Wren is a survivor! She was young when the bombs went off and the gateway was opened so she learned to survive in a world that had only one rule Survive at any cost! I like Wren so much, she is tough but she has a softer side that she rarely shows. When she Teams up Corson and few other Demons in hopes of finding more survivors(they call them selves Wilders)she tries to hide her attraction to the funny demon who wears womans earrings in his pointed ears, ( He lets his latest bed mate place their earrings in his ear as a way of saying "I was here")but soon she finds out that Corson wants only her earrings to dangle form his ears.she does everything she can to avoid him but when circumstances happen and they find them selves alone and battling for their lives the attraction is to much to handle.. I can't say much more or I will give away spoilers but Brenda knows how to write!! She sucked me in from the 1st word to the last! You really must add her to your 1 click list!!
One-line synopsis: Years after the gates of hell are opened and demons are released and trapped on Earth, a group of humans called the Wildlings, led by Wren, agree to work with a certain group of demons, including Corson, to survive on this new earth, and despite their differences, Wren and Corson learn they are inextricably linked.
I enjoyed the beginning of this book when it was just Wren and Corson's relationship developing, but then it lost me when they brought in all the other characters and more plot intricacies. I think this was because while this is the first book in the Hell on Earth series, it is still a spin-off of the original Road to Hell series which I have not read. I think that if I read that series first I would have known the characters a bit more and the backstory and may have enjoyed the book a bit more. This is not to say I couldn't follow the story, just that it wasn't gripping to me and that may be the reason why. The ending did get better but still didn't really do it for me.
Also for how HOT the cover was, I was expecting some awesome smut, and while Davies did have a couple of smut scenes, they were just ok, didn't really provide the blood racing, heart pumping, I was looking for!
Overall, I honestly feel neither here nor there about this book, didn't love it, didn't hate it, would read the next book but also not going to go out of my way to find it.
It’s been fourteen years since the gateway to Hell opened and life as I knew it ceased to exist. Taken in by a group of humans, I’ve managed to survive in the Wilds. Now I have a chance to do more than survive while building a better life for all Wilders. Unfortunately, it means doing the one thing I never believed I would do—joining with the demons I’ve always considered my enemies. Working with demons wouldn’t be a horrible prospect except it means dealing with Corson. The irritating demon who manages to get under my skin until I’m not sure if I’d rather kill him or kiss him. The closer I get to him, the more memories of my long-buried past slip free, leaving me uncertain of what’s real and what’s not…or even of who I am.

I’d thought joining with the Wilders to hunt down the creatures that escaped Hell was a job I’d enjoy. Not only do I get to kill my enemies, but I also have a chance to get closer to Wren. I wasn’t expecting the stubborn woman to go out of her way to avoid me. Cut off from our allies, Wren has no choice but to work with me. I was so disappointed in this book. I love the Road to Hell series but this book didn’t do it for me.
PROS - the idea of the demon and human population coming together is interesting
CONS - hardly anything happened. Besides Corson finding his Chosen, the only thing that happened is the discovery of the Horseman on the loose. It seemed like half the book was spent on Wren thinking about her past and what could have been. - similar to my point above, this book was not nearly as action packed as the Road To Hell series. - felt no chemistry between Corson and Wren. - Wren was a blah character to me. She seemed bitter for half the book. I understand that that would be realistic considering what she went through but it doesn’t mean I want to read about it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’m not complaining, at all, I thoroughly enjoyed Wren & Corson’s story… I just wanted more. I wasn’t ready for the book to end and would’ve loved there to be more time for Wren & Corson’s delicious sparring.
I do encourage anyone considering this series to read its predecessor trilogy first. Is it a requirement? No. But will it give you a better understanding and appreciation of the world and its new rules? 100%
OMG! I loved this story! Corson definitely has his hands full convincing the demon killing wilder Wren that she his Chosen. As always Brenda's descriptions of new settings and demons are so vivid it has your imagination going wild. I strongly recommend reading the Road to Hell series if you haven't. I don't know how you can't fall in love with these characters.
As much as I absolutely loved the Road to Hell series, unfortunately, this spin-off didn’t much compare with the non-stop thrills, suspense and smoking hot romance as it’s predecessor. It was a solid read, but it just didn’t do much for me 🤷♀️.
I found it to be very wordy, almost unnecessarily so. It reminded me a lot of fanfiction I've read in the sense of how the characters would talk to themselves. Or the words "but" and "however" being used a lot. I didn't find it to be that we'll written, especially for a novel. Overall, it's not a bad book. It has a great story line and I like the world created but the writing and insta-mate love really annoyed me.
After reading and really enjoying the Road to Hell series, I was eager to start reading the side characters stories. I really wanted to love Corson and Wrens story but it just fell flat for me. I wasn’t a fan of Wrens character. She was just so nasty/negative towards Carson’s character and then BAM they were in love. I just didn’t feel their connection. Though this wasn’t really a hit for me I will keep on with the stories in the series….I’m looking forward to Hawks story.
Holy Hell, it's hot on Earth. Firstly, you don't have to read the Road to Hell series in order to read this spin off series. Brenda provides enough details to keep you current without being repetitive, so those like myself, who have read the Road to Hell series, are refreshed but not bogged down in repeated details. But honestly, why wouldn't you read the series? Secondly, be prepared to have hot flashes, intense moments where you are clenching your teeth and holding your breath. If you have to get up early the next day, I don't recommend reading it at night because you won't want to put it down until it's done. I started reading mid morning yesterday, was super irritated that life interrupted throughout the day. Was about half way through around 10pm...stayed awake til well after midnight to finish. I'm currently suffering a book hangover. Lastly, the lack of sleep and the book hangover is all worth it!
Corson, an elf like, powerful demon, is drawn to an infuriating human that has the power to bring him to his knees. Wren, a human who has been through more than most in the last 14yrs, has spent each tragedy, building a wall around her vulnerability. The pushy, arrogant demon manages to crack through the wall within 2 days, in complete darkness.
I've always enjoyed this author and her enchanting stories of romance and supernatural.
This story has a post-apocalyptic setting when government unknowingly blow up a Hellgate. Thereby releasing Hells creatures onto the Earth. Wren is a Wilder leader, which means she leads those humans that do not trust the same government that caused this mess and whom oppose the "prison-like" sanctuary of the government - built wall to protect the citizens from the creatures released from Hell. She lives in the wild and has negotiated with Kobal, the rightful King of Hell before Lucifer usurped the position, an alliance to hunt and destroy those creatures released by the seals. Kobal assigns his two most trusted paliton demons: Corson & Bale to assist. The resentment of Wren and Corson's attraction has this story enthralling. The two alone make the story fly as they encounter several battles that push the two together. I enjoyed reading the mindsets of Wren and Corson. It made the story comprehension smooth. It was truly an enjoyable read. I hated to see it end. That why there is book 2.
I've been waiting for Corson's book FOREVER. Really it wasn't that long, but it felt that way.
From the moment I met him in the Road to Hell series, his frisky and hilarious behavior kept my attention. When I found out he was getting a story, I couldn't imaging who would be able to take him on, until I met Wren. Her tough and no nonsense persona constantly went head to head with him and it was funny to watch.
Corson was used to women falling at his feet, but Wren did no such thing. In fact, she couldn't stand the demon and kept him at arms length for as long as her heart would allow. Eventually he was able to break through her walls, finding and loving the woman he knew was beneath the entire time.
New enemies against the king make themselves known and it puts everyone in grave danger. It's up to Corson and Wren to make the first strike and possibly save everyone.
This action packed book kept me on the edge of my seat and I am looking forward to the next book!
I've read the road to hell series and I loved every moment of it so i was ecstatic when I came across this book. We are in the same world with the same characters only the mains are different now and we get to see more of the growing relationships of the other characters instead of just river and kobals story.
So enough about them and back to the stars of the show corson and wren and their epic journey. We have lots of twists and turns i definitely had a few (ooo no way moments) it was great there's a good strong storyline that was action packed and the relationship built between the two mains was beautiful and captivating to read.
I'm going to go for now as I don't want to give anything away but know if you liked the road to hell series then you'll love the hell on earth series as they are one in the same. 5 massive stars from me. Worth every penny
3 stars! It took me a long time to warm up to Wren, but I eventually did. For most of the book, I found her irritating. So demons killed her family... news flash demons killed essentially everyone’s family & they were able to understand that not all demons are bad and work with them. I hate when one person or a group of people does something despicable and then their entire race is blamed and demonized for the person’s actions. This is Wren’s chip on her shoulder for 80% of the book.
Sadly just about the time that I was liking Wren more was when the book ended... I was surprised tbh. There was so much more to their story that was mentioned in the beginning, but not carried out; like Randy? How does Randy react to Corson & Wren? Do they find him? Is he dead?
Overall it was good, not great. I will probably read the next one, but the one I’m actually excited about is Bale and Wrath. Now that one sounds good.
I loved Corson as a side character so I could not wait to dive into this spin-off series when I knew he was the main feature.
Hell On Earth had a plot that runs alongside Corson and Wren's love story and it was a great way to start a series. Diving straight back into the world where we left River and Kobal. Corson and Wren were characters that left an impression in the last series. The back and forth between Corson and Wren was so magnetic and flowed easily. The dislike and distrust slowly changed to hate lust and then lust. Corson became the dominant alpha towards Wren when he started to figure out her character and Wren's walls began to crumble when Corson shed all his layers. Their story was fast-paced and chaotic, which is expected in their current environment.
Brenda always writes a great fantasy series and I'm excited to see where this one goes. I loved the other series that she's written and I don't think this will disappoint.
I'm in love, Brenda continues to bring the heat with the spin-off series from "The Road To Hell" This book starts with Corson & Wren. Wren who has been with the Wilders since the gate to hell being blown open. Corson who has been by Kobal's side for centuries helping him regain what was rightfully his. Now that the gate has been closed and many demon's from the seals have escaped hell. Wren who reluctantly joined with the demon's and "civvies" to better protect her fellow Wilders, is now working side by side with the frustrating yet flirtatious Corson. All the while Corson believes that the fierce yet beautiful Wren is more than likely to castrate him before she would even lay a finger on the flirty demon. The chemistry is undeniable and the tension is hot! Love this story from beginning to end! Looking forward to book 2!
This long awaited first book in the “Hell on Earth” Series was definitely worth the wait. Hell on Earth is full of so many surprises and twists it will have your head spinning. The relationship between Wren and Corson is enough to drive you crazy. She is determined that he will never make her one of his many conquests, and he wants her and only her. (Want to know more? Trust me, you do!) However, Wren and Corson are just the beginning of the many unexpected things that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. You will be left wanting more!! I know because I have already pre-ordered “Into the Abyss”, Book 2, in the Hell on Earth Series. As always, Brenda K. Davies never disappoints her readers. (It is not necessary, but I recommend reading the "Into Hell" Series. You will understand the characters in this Series so much better!)
The "Road to Hell" series should be read before this series. I liked the previous series, so didn't hesitate to go on to this one. The World Building is very good. The romance is hot. The Supernatural aspects are intriguing. This book (and series) has a great deal of Demons, angels, and mythical creatures. It is a World that has had its own sort of Apocalypse, setting loose unending creatures from Hell.
This book is about one of the Demons who was a supporting character in the Road to Hell series. And although he gets his HEA by the end, the ongoing plotline will continue in the next book with another of the supporting characters from the first series (yes, I peeked at the blurb for the next book). I am planning to continue this series.
The way my brain unlocked when I asked about this series! 😂 Had I known that it was the same world, I would’ve binged it as a complete series in one go. Alas, I slept on Hell on Earth for way longer than necessary. I absolutely love that Corson gets his own story because let’s be honest… he was main character energy from the beginning! 😂 Wren is perfect as his chosen. She’s strong and fiery. But she’s also soft and vulnerable. She completely matches Corson’s energy! Together they make the perfect team. I’m totally rooting for their HEA!
As always, Meg Price was phenomenal! She does an exceptional job portraying each character. Her narration is so smooth and just tickles my brain in the right way. I blew through this series because I just couldn’t stop listening to it. Definite must have!
Hell on Earth was a brilliant story that follows on from River and Kobals epic journey. It's time to start hunting which is something Wren and Corson are both good at but Wren is not convinced that teaming up with a demon is a good idea. Corson knows he has small chance of convincing Wren she is his chosen but he is not giving up no matter what.
The story was adventurous, entertaining and totally fascinating because you could actually picture the world going to hell just like it has in Brenda's books. I really love her descriptive writing style it really makes every book of hers come to life.
There was nothing I didn't love about this story and I am looking forward to more.
I really like the story concept. Politicians in power playing with forces beyond control; and then trying to blame others for it. At first, I thought there would be lots of action. Towards end, I felt bad for Corson. I felt as if there was no true chemistry between them (other than when teasing). The descriptions and details made me visualize the battles and places. I am intrigued about the other characters. Could easily see this story portrayed in tv. I grew up in a country where history and politics are deceptive. You end up with mixed feelings towards a specific group. Sort of like Wren. But, she was far too stuck into the past. I know it's a PRN. Yet, based on beginning, I expected more action and less thinking of what if's.
