Rough Hands on the Prairie

After a breakup and a breakdown, June strips down and slips into an alpine lake, hoping to rinse off the mess of her life. Instead, she surfaces in a world that isn’t hers—a world without phones, without rules… and with a man who looks like he walked straight out of a fever dream.

Elias is all grit and growl, with hands built for work and a body made for sin. He lives by the land, trusts no one, and sure as hell doesn’t know what to do with a naked woman who just fell into his life—swearing, shivering, and too soft for this world.

She’s modern. He’s original.
And when survival forces them to share a cabin—and a bed—their connection burns hot and fast, all instinct and no apologies.

But this isn’t just a fling in the forest.
Because the past has teeth.
And love like this carves its mark deep.

💥 Time-travel with no way back

Time Travel

This was a little different from what I normally read, but overall a great read. June goes swimming and comes out to a different time. Meeting Elias and making a new home with him. A love story that will forever be a true love.

This was ok. I didn't feel like a historical. I know that she time traveled back but there were somethings that happened that still didn't feel true to the time. The relationship was cute and moved quickly.

Overall, it was ok.

Her greatest journey begins very unexpectedly!

June is a blogger whose followers know all about her van, her favorite outdoor cooking tips, solo hikes, and the importance of hydration. But today she underestimated the amount of water needed for this hike in the Colorado Rockies. She decides that a quick skinny dip in a mountain river is just what she needs. She leaves her backpack at the side of the trail and her clothes on a large rock by the edge of the river.
A toe dipped in the water tells her it's going to be downright cold, but she goes in anyway. She finds a quiet little pocket cove in the river and stops to take in her surroundings. Suddenly, as the cold seeps into her body, it seems almost as if time itself has stopped. She dives under the water, but when she comes back to the surface, everything looks the same, but it feels different. There's a heaviness that wasn't there before. Then she sees that her backpack up by the trail is gone! The clothes she left on the rock are also gone! She hadn't seen or heard anyone until now—there's a man on the trail. It must have been him! But when she gets back onto what once was an established hiking trail, it's now barely a path.

Elias knew a storm was brewing; that's why he had gone out early to check his traps. He was about a mile from home when he came across a very beautiful and very naked woman. She accuses him of stealing her clothes, and she talks of strange things—a van, a phone, and an online map.

She'll give him credit; he never breaks character once. Not from his speech, his clothes, or the dress he gives her with no zipper, only buttons, to the cabin with no electricity. Then she sees a leather-bound book; when she opens it, the latest entry is from 1853. She hopes she's in some sort of a LARP camp, but she feels it's true—somehow she has time traveled into the past! How will she be able to get back home? Can she ever get back home?

Elias hasn't had an easy life. His father bought the cabin some ten years earlier, and the family left Missouri for Colorado. While on the trip, fever took not only his parents but also four of his siblings. He was seventeen when his parents died. His youngest sister, Lizzie, survived, and he was determined to get to the cabin and make a home for her.

He's been alone for some time now until this beautiful woman suddenly appeared in his life. He's not sure where she came from, and occasionally she speaks of strange things, but she seems to be happy here with him. Will he finally get the family he's been yearning for?

This contemporary Western mountain man time travel romance is page-turning with exceptional world-building on the Colorado Frontier, where fate is feral, love is lawless, and the original mountain man is ready to claim what's his. Their journey is enthralling with explicit romance that is consumed by steamy sizzling passion, lust, desire, and spice with all the feelings to leave readers breathless and begging for more, humor that will have readers laughing out loud, chaos/drama, heartfelt emotions/emotional depth, a heroine who finds more than love-she finds where she truly belongs, cabin-core+, prairie-core+ portal fantasy smut, only one bed, a grumpy guarded mountain man, time-travel with no way back, suspense that will leave readers on the edge of their seats, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with rough hands on the prairie and an explicit romance that will surely transport readers into a world that is wildly lustful, entertaining, humorous, and unforgettable.

One wild river, one wrong century, one unforgettable man. ‍

When June, a modern-day solo traveler and blogger, dives into a remote Colorado river, she doesn’t expect to surface in 1853. Alone, barefoot, and completely out of her element, she’s taken in by Elias, a rugged trapper with quiet eyes and rough hands who doesn’t quite know what to make of the sharp-tongued woman who just crashed into his world.

What starts as survival turns into something neither of them is ready for. Elias is stoic and guarded, but June brings warmth and wit that slowly thaws the edges of his solitude. She may be from another time, but somehow, she fits into his life more than she ever did her own.

Still, the river calls. As June struggles with the pull of the life she left behind, Elias is forced to confront what it means to hold on to someone who never planned to stay. Through storms, silence, and stolen moments, their connection grows into a bond that feels impossible, and yet, undeniable.

June shifts from an impulsive traveler to someone grounded by choice, while Elias opens up in ways he never thought he could. Their relationship moves from guarded glances to fierce loyalty, shaped by resilience, trust, and a love that slowly, steadily takes root.

A steamy, time travel, grumpy sunshine, mountain man, western frontier romance with forced proximity, wilderness survival, small town tension, and a slow burn that turns into something unforgettable. It explores identity, belonging, love, survival, transformation, emotional intimacy, and time displacement. It’s about finding love and identity in unexpected places, embracing change through adversity, and discovering a true sense of home across time and circumstance. At its heart, it’s about a woman who stops running, a man who learns to open his heart, and a bond strong enough to rewrite their lives.

**Back in Time!**

"Rough Hands on the Prairie" is the first book in the exciting new series, "The Original Mountain Man," and I had such a great time reading it! The story of Elias and June is a delightful short instalove tale that beautifully blends their differences and the challenge of being centuries apart. June is just looking for some relaxation and a little self-discovery when she unexpectedly finds herself transported back to 1853, where she feels like a fish out of water.

Elias, who has been living a quiet and solitary life after losing his sister, encounters June by the river and is puzzled by this bold and outspoken woman who speaks of things he’s never even dreamed of! But as they spend time together, they start to learn more about each other. Elias opens up and gradually reconnects with life, while June begins to embrace her new time and let go of her previous life.

As they discover how perfectly they fit together, their bond deepens, and it’s just so heartwarming! This sweet instalove story is wonderfully written, and you can’t help but cheer for June and Elias. Their dynamic—complete with the grumpy/sunshine trope and the forced proximity—along with the catchy time travel twist, makes this book really stand out. It’s fast-paced and easy to binge in one sitting, with just the right blend of spicy moments and emotional depth.

I absolutely loved it and thought it was a fantastic way to kick off a new series. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Steamy, rugged, and wildly romantic — a perfect escape into the untamed past!

Rough Hands on the Prairie by Frankie Love is everything I crave in a time-travel cowboy romance — raw emotion, slow-burn passion, and a setting so vivid you can practically smell the pine and woodsmoke. June’s story begins in heartbreak but transforms into something primal and healing. When she finds herself in another time, the vulnerability and strength she discovers make her impossible not to root for.

Elias is the kind of hero you don’t forget — stoic, rough around the edges, yet quietly protective in a way that melts you from the inside out. The chemistry between him and June is off the charts — every shared glance, every moment in that tiny cabin, builds into a tension that’s both tender and sizzling hot.

Frankie Love captures the wild beauty of the frontier and the ache of two souls finding each other against all odds. It’s romantic escapism at its best — equal parts heart, heat, and hope.

If you love stories that blend grit, passion, and a touch of magic, Rough Hands on the Prairie will leave you breathless and begging for more from The Original Mountain Man series.

June, a blogger, unexpectedly finds herself transported back to 1853 after diving into a remote Colorado river. She is taken in by Elias, a trapper. Elias, a stoic and guarded man, is intrigued by June's sharp wit and warmth, which slowly break down the barriers around his heart. As they navigate survival in the wilderness, June struggles with wanting to return to her former life while Elias grapples with the idea of holding on to someone from a different time. Despite the challenges they face, their connection deepens into a bond that defies time and logic.

This steamy time-travel romance explores themes of humor, belonging, love, survival, and healing. It follows June's journey from a free-spirited traveler to wanting something more permanent. She will just find another way to share her adventures with others, and she is well on her way to doing that.

Elias's evolution from a closed-off man to someone capable of opening his heart. With elements of chemistry, humor, healing, and witty banter made for a fun read filled with wonderful characters.

This story delves into the complexities of emotional intimacy and the power of love to transcend time. Ultimately, it's a tale of two souls finding unexpected love and a true sense of home in each other..

*spoilers* Since her mother died five years ao June has been travelling on her own being a succesful blogger. When she dares to take a skinny dip into a remote Colarado river, she surfaces naked in another world, later finding out she traveled thorugh time to 1825. There she is found by Elias, a rugged trapper. First she tinks of cosplay, before realizing the truth. Also June is different from any woman Elias has known, he can not leave her alone in the rough nature with a storm coming. He takes her to his cabin. He has lost his whole family, only his sister even made it to the cabin with him. He can not tkeep his hands of June- But that is not the only thing that attracts them to each other, over time they build adeep bond, both having lost their roots. This story is short, and June never tells him she comes from another time, but it seems like fate that they met, even through time traveling. They complete each other and also having led very different lives, they are connected on a deep level. When June hears the river calling, what will their fate be?.

A great start to the Original Mountain Man series, which I found to be a fantastic and engaging read. The story immediately captured my attention, beginning with the protagonist, June, taking a swim in a present-day alpine lake. In a compelling twist, she is unexpectedly transported back to the year 1853. There, she encounters Elias, a mountain man, who brings her to his remote cabin, which, as you can imagine, presents some interesting dynamics with only one bed. They certainly face a significant number of challenges that they must navigate throughout their journey. Overall, this is a very well-written time travel story. The author has crafted truly compelling characters whose struggles and triumphs kept me invested from beginning to end. The storyline is engaging and unfolds beautifully, ultimately leading to a satisfying and happy ending. I highly recommend it if you're looking for an captivating historical romance with a unique premise.

A new life by MeemsAngel82

Welcome to a world with no online and no cell phones! Scary in some ways but beautiful in others. Times were simpler in a way back then and I appreciate the homey feelings I get from their meeting and connection.

She finds herself back in time. In time to meet the love of her life.

I do wish they'd gotten around to the horizontal mambo later on but hey. These two have a lot of chemistry and I would have loved more of his background and reflections. This was fun and sweet, it felt so relaxing to slip back in time. This is a entertaining new series and I can't wait to see what happens next!

First in the series "The Original Mountain Man" which are time travel stories back to the late 1850s. June goes for a swim in the river to cool off in 2025 came up in the cold of the 1850s with Elias watching her unable to believe his eyes. They had a strong attraction from very first moment of meeting. He loaned her his coat, as she had no clothes. June was an influencer in her old life with no family left to miss her. Elias was a trapper that came west with his family, but they all passed but a young sister that died soon, after they settled down. He did not want to loose June, so he needed to learn her plans. A well written western romantic story.

Rough Hands on the Prairie is a charming, one-sitting time travel story that beautifully weaves romance and history. When June takes a refreshing skinny dip, she unexpectedly wakes up in 1853—an era far removed from her own. Taken in by Elias, she finds warmth, kindness, and an undeniable connection that changes her life forever.

If you enjoy heartfelt, cozy tales with a touch of adventure and a dash of love, this story is a perfect choice. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who loves a quick but emotionally satisfying read.

June enjoys being able to tour the country and share her experiences online. She never imagined that a swim in a river would send her to a different time or that she would be rescued by Elias who is so different from any other man she has known.

Elias isn’t sure what to make of the enticing woman he has found especially when her world seems so much different from his. Despite that he can’t deny the chemistry and connection between them, but will she disappear from his life as quickly as she arrived?

This is a touching story about two people who are kindred souls even if they met under the most unlikely of circumstances.

Frontier lovin', happened so fast - Elias is shocked and delighted to find a skinny dipper. A beauty who rouses his desire after so long. June is shocked to find herself in what appears to be a different time in the place she took her swim. The man she is met by is a looker, but she does have reservations about staying with him in his cabin. Awakened by his touch, she is drawn into a web of sensuality unlike anything she has ever known. Can she stay with her lover in this idyllic setting? Overall an enjoyable shorty, but there was no working up to the intimacy.

Not the usual theme for a storyline I would choose. I like the author and the writing style for short stories, so I chose this out of interest.
It is a bit like fantasy meets sci-fi because the present, with all its modern living suddenly meets the past in the old wild west with all its discomforts and difficulties.
June, a traveller and blogger, suddenly becomes a time traveller after taking a dip in a lake and meets Elias, a man who is living a humble, hardworking life.
Attraction is one thing, but with little else in common it is interesting to see how things develop.

ROUGH HANDS ON THE PRAIRIE is Book 1 of The Original Mountain Man Series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, opposites-attract, grumpy-sunshine, forced-proximity, time-travel, curvy virgin gets her mountain man romance. June is a smart and sassy travel blogger from 2025. Elias is a hunky, grumpy, mountain man from 1853. When June goes for a skinny dip while hiking, she never expects to surface in 1853, or to find the love of her life. Can she return to her time? Does she want to? This was a sweet story about finding where you belong when you least expect it. This couple had great chemistry and the ending was so happy. I look forward to more in this series.

“Rough Hands on the Prairie” by Frankie Love

-This is the first in a new series of time travel books. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

A time-travel romance that throws modern June into the rugged 1850s Colorado frontier. She collides with Elias, a grumpy, lonely trapper who instantly claims her heart. Their instalove is wrapped in survival, passion, and the grumpy/sunshine spark.

Fast-paced, spicy, and sweet—a frontier love story that feels timeless.

This is a well written time traveling, cowboy romance with a unique storyline and great characters who get a happily ever after. This is an interesting story. I love reading time travelling stories. June is a present day woman who took a dip in a lake. When she is ready to get out, she realizes something is off. It took her a bit to realize that she was in a different time. Elias runs into June and knows that she isn't from his time. Elias and June spend time together and fall in love. Will she choose to stay with Elias or go back to her time?

Rough Hands on the Prairie pulled me in with its raw charm and rugged energy. Frankie Love brings the wild frontier to life with a story that’s equal parts passion and grit. The characters are bold and magnetic, and the tension between them keeps the pages turning. It’s the kind of western romance that feels both rough around the edges and unexpectedly tender. I really enjoyed the blend of danger, desire, and heart—it’s definitely an intriguing read that stands out among prairie romances.

I really enjoyed June and Elias' story. I have never read a book that involved time travel and I must say this one really captured my attention. From the beginning I was rooting for these two. A bit of humor in the way they spoke differently as she is from year 2025 and he is from 1825. There is clearly attraction between them. Very entertaining book. Loved the HEA.

This is the first book in The Original Mountain Man series. Tropes: trapper, 1800's, time travel, and innocent FMC. June decides to skinny dip in a mountain stream and wounds up in a time portal from the 1800s. Elias is a trapper and surprised to see a woman alone in the frontier. Interesting concept. Enjoyed June and Elias.

I had the best time reading this. It was quick and spicy. June just wanted a dip in a lake and came up thrown back in time. Elias is the old school rancher that you can’t help but love. He is lonely and wasn’t looking for love but he did. June was made for him. Modern but loving. she adapts really well and quickly and loves her some Elias. I loved this.

Rough Hands on the Prairie (Book 1 of The Original Mountain Man Series) by Frankie Love. I thought this was a good story and fun way to usher in a new series featuring time travels and meeting the person you are meant to be with. June and Elias are not sure what to make of each other, but they cannot deny the attraction and end up giving in and finding love. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to others that enjoyed fast paced, short stories.

Books 1 and 2 are connected yet they can stand alone perfectly. It's a quick and charming romance between them, and since it's a short story, there's no need for an extensive falling-in-love plot. I really loved the life the main characters created for themselves—it's simple, yet filled with love. Above all, they are truly content and happy.

On top of that, there is a man in old-fashioned clothes watching her from the riverbank. I love this story. June finds that the life she dreamed of is actually in the past. Elias is such a great guy. Elias discovers June skinny-dipping, sparking desire he hasn’t felt in years. June, stunned to find herself in a different time, is wary but drawn to the handsome Elias. Staying in his cabin, she’s swept into intense sensuality. Torn about remaining in this idyllic world with her lover, their instant intimacy drives this short, enjoyable romance, though it lacks gradual buildu.
