I rarely write reviews — and I’ve never written a negative one — but I had to this time. What a complete waste of time. I read five books hoping something would redeem the lack of plot, character development, or any sense of direction in a storyline that just draaaaaaaaggggsss.
Reviews on Amazon warned me that things wouldn’t get any better, and they were absolutely right. I saw no point in finishing book six. I spent all five first books waiting for the protagonist to finally grow a spine, yelling at the “bad guys,” and getting increasingly frustrated with all the errors. Characters’ names were changed or misspelled so often that it became impossible to keep track of who was who. And lawd, there were so many new, irrelevant characters introduced with no real purpose to the overall plot. There was no consistency, no cohesiveness — just chaos.
It honestly felt like the author was rage-baiting us into continuing, and unfortunately, it worked. I’m just mad at myself for sticking with it this long.
The story could have potential, but for the love of all that is holy, get an editor — and condense this mess into one decent book!
I like the story but find that background info between the FMC and MMC very lacking. No explanation of how they came to be married leaves out context. I also feel that the story is somewhat dragging and the FMC is portrayed as a weak character. Why not just tell people who her husband and child is? Why not just let it be known about the OW? Being a doormat doesn't quite sit right as a brilliant intellectual.
So I picked this book from a suggestion in my KU app. The book that was suggested was actually the 7th book in this series, but the synopsis was interesting so I downloaded it. After reading the first sentence, I felt like I was missing something important. So I went back to the first book, which had a different cover and different secondary title. After reading that synopsis, I found it was the same as the one I’d downloaded and all of the rest in the series. That confused me at first, but I figured the series must just follow this couple and many different things happen with other characters throughout their journey.
That was not completely accurate. The series does just follow one couple, but it’s not a series at all. This is actually one of those “read a chapter for a token” (not sure what they’re called) type things that was made into a book series. If you have KU it’s fine since you don’t have to pay, if not you may want to find something else. By the end of the first book I was very frustrated but I wanted to know when the main FC would grow a spine. Didn’t happen by the end of the second book.
This book was chock full of typos and editing mistakes. So much so that I was confused as to who the scene was referring to or where they even were. I’m gonna keep reading, simply because I hate the main FC and want to find out why no one has actually filed for divorce in this messy marriage!
What kind of book even is this? I’ve heard it has endless chapters, and honestly I’m already bored out of my mind. There is literally zero communication between the main leads. They just work, disappear for days, come home, sleep, then go back to work again. That’s not a story, that’s a dull daily schedule.
And that bratty kid? She’s six but acts like a tiny manipulative tyrant. Every scene with her is unbearable. If I were Celesta, I would have kicked that attitude out of my life on day one. Seriously, go run to your precious Wynm mommy and leave Ys alone.
And the so-called “hero”? Roaming around with his wife’s sister like that? In the real world people would absolutely shame him for it. The author will probably pull the predictable excuse later, “oh he never kissed her, never slept with her, he treated her like a sister.” Please. That doesn’t magically make everything fine.
Honestly, who writes this kind of trash? A story full of pointless chapters, irritating characters, and nonsense drama. It feels like the author just kept typing without caring whether the plot or the characters made any sense at all.
A good story line but truly the most boring progression I have ever read. 6 year old with tantrums about not getting her way. A husband with preference for the wife’s sister. A family fued, jealousy, rivals in the industry. It should not have felt so stagnant. Yet, this book is just filler, no real story points, no real change, no real character arcs. And the amount of errors in this book is truly astounding! A writer should have more pride in their work than just throwing a Chat GPT script together. My recommendation: just skip this book! Not worth it!
So no it's still not working it's just going round and round with no end in sight but I can't stop reading. Every time I turn a page I keep hoping someone is going to smack Cel upside the head and tell her to get a grip I still don't understand why she hasn't gone to a lawyer yet, why she hasn't done anything, I mean he doesn't even know she wants to end it. Unless he's a mind reader, but she just keeps going to grandma's to cook for one very spoiled child, school runs all of it tell them to kick rocks and move on. But the worst thing about is, is I still want to read the next one, God someone shoot me now.
This book REALLY needs an editor! I am surprised that the author claims to be a ‘university teacher’ (even this phrasing is odd!) - the grammar and writing would suggest otherwise! Inconsistencies throughout the book - one chapter ends with a positive and the first sentence of the next chapter contradicts it! Family names become a different word in subsequent sentences (looks like auto correct!). Plot line is drawn out for no obvious reason (other than to sell books!). I like most books and tried the first 2 of this series - but I really can’t go any further! Perhaps a good premise for a story but so badly executed.
Such a dignified young lady. Twenty-five & kicking butt. Little miss jealousy has zero clue just how much better Celeste is compared to her!
I can't imagine being in Celeste's shoes when it comes to Jordyn. Having your baby want someone other than you, the Mother, around is disheartening. Celeste handles it with quiet dignity despite the fact that her hearts breaking. Made tears come to my eyes.
Still can't believe Trevor didn't read the divorce paperwork she left for him before leaving on her birthday. She's too patient! I want to jump in like Lottie & tell him what for!
Enjoy! This is going to get worse before it gets better!
These 2 books had no definite story line and is dragged out, the author seems to be dragging the story out to make more money on books. The description in the preview is incorrect!!! Waste of time and money! Don’t buy either book. Note for the author, you won’t get good reviews by prolonging a story.
I am pretty sure I started this on one of those pay per chapter reading apps, so finding it on Kindle Unlimited was a nice surprise. It is very much a drama driven romance, and it leans hard into drawn out tension.
The biggest theme is miscommunication. So much of the conflict could be solved if the characters simply talked honestly or made a clean break. Instead, the story stretches that uncertainty for a long time, which can be frustrating even though it fits the melodramatic tone the book is going for.
If you enjoy slow burn relationship drama where emotions spiral because no one says what they really mean, this will probably work for you. Just go in expecting a lot of tension that could have been avoided with one serious conversation.
This is one of the worst books I have read . It makes you dislike Trevor but it fails to have Celeste truly grow .. it goes on forever. It just makes you hate Trevor even more .
The story is not well written but I need to see it through to see if Celeste gets her revenge, who she ends up with and if her POS husband and Wynn suffer the worst fate. If you decide to read this you will indeed be rage baited lmao.
I was very interested in the story despite significant errors. Most disappointing was there was no ending. All of the problems the characters had were just left hanging.
I also read book 3. I waiting for book 4 and more. I have enjoyed reading each one . I can’t wait to complete this novel. It’s getting better and better with each episode. Keep up the good work.
