After loving Ellie and Lincoln's book, I couldn't wait for Sadie's story with our Captain Dad, and they didn't disappoint me.
This book revolves around Sadie and Niko's story. Niko is a single dad who has been struggling with childcare ever since his ex-wife left, leaving him alone with his four-year-old daughter. He's underslept, tired, and exhausted, and is in urgent need of help. When Sadie is temporarily appointed as a yoga instructor for the Green Bay Bobcats, he finds himself drawn to her but hesitates to act after his previous relationship debacle. Seeing Niko struggle, Sadie offers to help with childcare and admits she's about to be homeless. He, in turn, offers her a place to stay in his home. The close proximity starts to spark feelings between them, feelings they can't ignore.
This book explores many themes, each portrayed so beautifully and well. It was emotionally charged, sweet, and filled with love, care, and affection.
Reading the book while listening to their official playlist made the experience even better.
Niko was captivated by Sadie from the start, which made me excited — we saw that at the end of book 1, but reading his POV here was the cherry on top. He was also such a swoon-worthy character. He cared deeply, loved wholeheartedly, danced, cooked, was a great captain, and had the most meaningful nicknames for both his daughter and the FMC.
There were also many hilarious moments in the book. I had so much fun during those times.
Sadie wasn't Sophia's biological mother, but she certainly was her mum. Their bond was so precious.
Niko and Sadie's chemistry was undeniably good. It was comforting, soft, beautiful, and yet emotional. The way they expressed their feelings made the experience truly wholesome. The mutual pining and tension were scorching hot. Both had their own struggles and issues, which were highlighted and dealt with realistically, making them stand out.
Side characters - 1. Connor was the best friend, and I loved his bond with Niko. 2. I could never get enough of Sadie and Ellie's bond; these two reminded me so much of my friendship with my best friend. 3. Hunter was Sadie's twin flame, and I slightly wished we had more of their story. I'm eager for their drama. ________________
There is a third-act breakup, but the reunion and conclusion were so worth it. Who cares if I got a bit upset and shed some tears?
The book is on the low spice scale. Anyone who doesn't enjoy much spice can comfortably read this. List of spicy chapters - Ch 35, 39, 41, 48.
I'm very excited for the next couple in the series, especially after that teaser. Want to know who they are? Read the Perfect Assist on 08.01.2026.
The epilogue was more beautiful and sweet than I expected.
I really enjoyed this one. It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading it after Book One. You'll love Ellie and Lincoln <3
Thank you, Jillian, and LoveNotesPR for the ARC opportunity. Overall 4.5/5
Becoming an arc reader for Jillian Arly has really enlightened my life!
Being obsessed with hockey romance, and knowing how in awe I was of book 1 in the series, I KNEW I was gonna love this book before I read it. Little did I know how much it would impact me. I had to blink away tears at multiple points in the book. Some parts really hit close to home. The insecurities and hardships both of the MC’s were going through were really relatable to me. But I also experienced so much joy and contentment reading Sadie and Niko’s story. Their connection felt magical and special, and Niko’s daughter Sophia was just the cherry on top of the very delicious cake!
Can’t wait to see what the next book is gonna bring us ♥️
Niko and Sadie's story was an emotional rollercoaster, full of laughter, tears and spice. Niko and Sadie were instantly attracted to the other but both had their reasons to play it safe. Sadie has never felt good enough, her family puts her down at every chance because she doesn't live up to their expectations. Niko is weary from his ex-wife leaving and being in and out of their daughter, Sophia's life. They grow closer as friends and Sadie steps in as his nanny when he gets injured. Soon lines blur and fall hard. Niko was supportive and showed Sadie he truly saw her and all her quirks. Sadie showed Niko he doesn't always have to put others before himself.
I loved this book! I had the pleasure of arc reading this and it was so good. I haven’t read the first one as it’s been sat in my tbr but it’s now been bumped up the list. I loved the characters and the development of a relationship with Sadie and Niko. One of my favourite parts of this was watching Sadie fall in love with Nikos daughter Sophia as she is such a sweet kid and is what was missing from Sophia’s life. I’m not normally a huge fan of kids in books like the single dad trope but this was written beautifully. I loved the dynamics of the characters and right at the end we have set up for book 3 and I am already interested.
The Perfect Assist was another example of how Jillian Arly writes some of the absolute best FMCs and MMCs. I was so excited to head back to Green Bay after already loving Behind the Bench. The Perfect Assist follows Sadie, a black sheep yoga instructor who only wants to pursue her passion despite her family’s opinions. She lights up every room she walks into, so it’s no surprise that Cap Daddy himself, Niko, can’t help but be captivated by her. Life as the captain of the Bobcats already comes with plenty of pressure, but adding single parenthood to the mix is starting to wear him down. Luckily, Sadie, being the incredibly kind human that she is, offers to help. Watching them navigate their relationship while trying to deny their undeniable pull toward one another kept the pacing of the book absolutely perfect. They balance each other so beautifully, and I loved the devotion Niko showed Sadie when she didn’t believe she deserved it. Even more special was the way Niko slowly let down his walls and allowed his daughter to fall in love with Sadie just as deeply as he did. This was a wonderful reminder to not only have faith in yourself, but also to know that the right people will be there to support you for the perfect assist.
With a nanny x single dad trope and he falls first and harder! There is a slight miscommunication but it’s used towards the end and is worked in so well. I absolutely smashed it in one day tho, it’s such a good and cute hockey romance!

Single dad romances already have me in a chokehold, but this one? Yeah, this one got me emotionally attached.
We first get tiny glimpses of Niko and Sadie in Behind the Bench, and even then I knew — this man was built to be soft for his people. Niko Koshiken might be the NHL’s golden boy and captain of the Green Bay Bobcats, but at his core, he’s just a girl dad whose entire world revolves around Sophia. Everything he does — his choices, his sacrifices, his restraint — it all comes back to her.
Sadie, on the other hand, has spent her life feeling like an outsider. Yoga, chakra stones, calm energy in a loud, judgmental world — she’s just trying to exist without being told she’s “too much” or “too different.” When she gets hired by the Bobcats, she thinks she’s finally found her place… and then life throws her straight into forced proximity with a hot, exhausted single dad who desperately needs help.
Enter: goat yoga. Yes. Goat. Yoga. And somehow, that’s the moment Niko sees her — not just as a beautiful woman, but as someone safe. Someone Sophia is instantly comfortable with. And if you know single dad romances, you know that’s game over.
What I loved most is that Sadie never uses Sophia as a way in. She loves that child genuinely — patiently, selflessly, without expectations. She shows up for her, teaches her, gives her space, and never once makes it about Niko. And that is what slowly shifts Niko’s feelings from attraction to respect… and then to something so much deeper.
The relationship between Sadie and Sophia is the heartbeat of this book. I cried. Multiple times. Their bond is tender, healing, and written with so much care. Sadie needed them just as much as they needed her, and watching all three of them find each other felt like watching a broken home quietly stitch itself back together.
Niko? Absolute top-tier book boyfriend. – Best dad – Gentle parenting king – Soft but protective – Completely unwell over Sadie – Possessive when it counts (the boys riling him up was chef’s kiss)
And the way he stands up for Sadie — in front of her parents— without her ever asking? Yeah. That moment had my whole heart.
The romance itself is slow, warm, and full of those stolen glances and soft touches that somehow feel hotter than instant spice. When it does turn spicy though? It delivers. Controlled. Intimate. Earned.
This book isn’t just about falling in love — it’s about letting someone in when your world has already been cracked open. Sadie was their missing piece, and Niko made damn sure she knew she belonged.
Sophia, by the way, is my spirit animal. Obsessed with her.
If you love: 💔 single dad romance 🧘♀️ soft FMCs with quiet strength 🏒 hockey but make it emotional 👨👧 found family 🔥 protective MMCs who worship the ground she walks on
— this book will absolutely wreck you in the best way.
I started this book last night and stayed up until 4 a.m. this morning to finish it - that's the kind of hold this book had on me! The Perfect Assist is such a sweet story that has the perfect blend of humor, spice, and tenderness. This is a true slow burn, but I didn't mind one bit. The story never felt rushed or lagging, and the slow-burn aspect made sense in the context of the single-dad/nanny trope. I loved the connection between Sadie and Sophia, and appreciated how Jillian Arly added so much depth to their relationship. It wasn't just that they liked each other and enjoyed each other's company— Sadie genuinely cared about Sophia's well-being, especially her mental well-being, and Sadie and Sophia were positive influences in each other's lives.
It's stated in the Author's Note that Sophia is just as much of a main character as Niko and Sadie are, and I love that the author not only emphasizes this but executes it so perfectly through her writing. I also loved how Niko's single-parent guilt/stresses were portrayed; I feel like these emotions, especially the stress, are often underrepresented in single-parent romances, and the author did a wonderful job at portraying them. This isn't an overly spicy book compared to most of the hockey romances I read, but it is open-door. With this book, I felt that the amount of spice was perfect and tastefully placed at the right moments in the story. If there had been more, I think that it would've taken away from the story.
If you enjoy the tropes listed below, I strongly recommend The Perfect Assist. It's the kind of feel-good romance that delivers on the emotions and will leave you with a smile on your face.
Tropes: 🩵Single Dad x Nanny 🐈⬛ Black Cat FMC 💜 Forced Proximity 🏒 Hockey Romance 🔥 Slow Burn 🐐 Hockey Player x Yoga Instructor 💞 Found Family
⚠️NOTE: Brief content notes are listed at the beginning of the book, so be sure to check those before you read. A glossary of hockey terms used in the book is also provided.

4.5 ⭐️ - Thank you Love Notes PR & Jillian Arly for the ARC!
The Perfect Assist is a single dad x nanny sports romance that is set to release on Jan 8, 2026. It’s the second book of the Green Bay Bobcats series, but can be read as a standalone. Honestly, this is one of my absolute favourite tropes so I was so damn excited to get an ARC.
Single dad Niko is the captain of his hockey team with 5 y/o daughter, Sophia. They struggle with communication and a baby mama who continues to let Sophia down time and time again. Niko has the biggest heart and just wants some normalcy and consistency for his daughter.
Sadie is the bestie of the coaches of the Bobcats. She gets contracted into the team operations as a part time yoga instructor who also specializes in mindfulness and meditation. She’s spunky and down to earth, and uses alternative methods to help people. Think.. chakras, auras, essential oils, breathing exercises, etc.
Immediately there’s an attraction between Niko and Sadie. And typically, I’m not a huge fan of the instalove kind of scenarios. But I love how although there was a spark, there was still tension and angst. The didn’t instantly jump each others bone, but instead learned about each other and built their emotional connection. We have forced proximity as she moves in as a “nanny”, but really she genuinely wanted to help Niko and Sophia. I love how Niko saw Sadie for who she is, loved every bit of it, and never tried to dim her light. Sadie being the type of person who wants to help people, comes in to help with taking care of Sophia and giving both Sophia and Niko tools to better navigate their feelings and in turn, be better people in general.
Big kudos to Niko for standing up to her parents when they were being assholes. And huge kudos to Sadie for honestly just being a kind and giving person. I loved their connection, the burn, the banter, etc. and the spice was 🔥🔥🔥. Honestly really enjoyed how it was written.
This is my very first Jillian Arly read and needless to say, I will most definitely be going back to read Lincoln and Ellie’s story, and will be anticipating when Connor and Avery’s story comes out!
I became emotionally invested in this immediately! I always love the single parent romances. Niko (our NHL player) is swoon worthy before the first chapter even ends. Sophia (his daughter) is clearly the center of is universe and his relationship with her is so heartwarming. Sophia stole my heart right away. It was an emotional rollercoaster from page one (especially when it comes to a parent abandoning their child)
I have a 5 year old so reading the things Sophia is saying and doing had me laughing 😂 relatable kid. She's definitely as much of a main character as Niko and Sadie!
Which leads us to Sadie! She is best friends with the hockey teams coaches and a yoga instructor. (Goat yoga!!!!!!!! 😍) She gets contracted to work with the team on meditation etc. and ends up helping Niko with child care..... Live in "nanny" 😏
She's considered the black sheep of her family filled with drs and lawyers as she took a much different path career wise. She's the breath of fresh air that NIko and Sophia need in their lives. And the relationship she develops with Sophia is just the absolute sweetest and best.
This slow burn is scrumptious! It's the perfect blend of spice, humor, and tenderness. There was an instant attraction but since it wasn't acted upon immediately led to a ton of yearning, tension, and angst. This was beautifully sculpted and flowed really well! The characters are immediately loveable. You'll smile throughout its entirety and chuckle at the dialogue. As the story unfolds pasts and insecurities surface but this showcases that support, patience, compromise, and communication are all that's needed to overcome any obstacle. This one tugs at the heart strings! Overall a feel good romance with top notch chemistry! The ending totally got me 🥹
✔️Hockey romance ✔️Single dad ✔️Forced proximity ✔️Black sheep FMC ✔️Found family ✔️Mutual pining ✔️"Eyes on me"
Thank you for my ARC! I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
I cannot tell you how much I truly love a single parent romance and this was done so beautifully. I loved that yes, we got the romantic relationship that was an instant connection between Niko and Sadie but it was the bond between Sadie and Sophia that was so powerful in this book. The prologue already had my heart aching for Niko and Sophia and they needed Sadie, she was their missing piece.
Sadie is such a good friend in Behind the Bench to Ellie. She is there for her in such a deep way and we really got to see that in Behind the Bench but to see what is really going on with Sadie in The Perfect Assist, she needed Niko and Sophia just as much as they needed her. This woman was calm and so patient with Sophia, I cried a couple of times with the interactions these two had. But I loved the instant connection that she had with Niko, the metaphorically string that just kept drawing them together.
Niko was seriously the best dad in this book but he was also such a good man and captain. He was cracking me up with how absolutely flustered he was about Sadie. I really just loved the gentle parenting in this book. How both Niko and Sadie did their best to really have Sophia share her feelings when she was ready. Possessive Niko was my favorite though and the boys on the team riling him up was just icing on the cake.
This whole book was just beautifully done for Niko and Sadie. They were sweet baby angels that deserved so much and really found that within each other. Sophia is my spirit animal though. Love that kid.
Thank you to Jillian Arly for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Arc Review First off I would like to thank @lovenotes.pr & @jillianarlyauthor for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Sadie & Niko Y'all this book is so beautiful. Like I can't say enough good things about her. She is so beautifully done, she's the perfect balance between heartfelt and humor, with a touch of emotions. Like you can feel everything the characters are going through & really understand their pov. I love the raw and emotional moments between Sadie & Sophia, and the way Sadie handles them so beautifully and honestly, she doesn't shy away from the hard stuff and drives head first into the tough topics. I love watching her bond with Sophia and embrace Sophia for who she is. Niko is the best man ever. The way he puts Sophia's needs before his own in every way is beautiful and so thoughtful. I absolutely adore those vulnerable and emotional moments between him and Sophia cause they are real and honest. I loved seeing him finally relaxing and putting himself first at times. Boy you could feel the chemistry between Sadie and Niko flowing through them and could feel the tension slowly building up between them while they both kept putting it off for the sake of Sophia. I kept yelling at them to kiss already for the good of Sophia 😂(Like it's a slow burn but pays off big time!)
5/5 recommend this book. Yes I know I did it again and started a book that's not the first in the series 😂🫣Anyways while this is book two in the series it reads as a standalone, I absolutely loved that we get more hockey time and game play throughout its super well balance between both the characters jobs and taking care of a kid with out the overwhelming feeling of one thing take up more of the storyline.
I loved the found family depicted in this book. Sadie and Niko both have a fantastic support system that merge due to her new part-time position as a yoga & meditation instructor for his hockey team.
Sadie and Niko’s romance is more an undercurrent of possibility as their lives start to intertwine. I loved the scenes where Niko’s teammates attend goat yoga and meditation with Sadie and Niko tried and failed to suppress his growly possessive reaction to their interest in her. His teammates love to provoke him as his interest in Sadie becomes more obvious.
Both Sadie and Niko have emotional baggage due to her toxic family and his ex-wife who abandoned him and his daughter. Sadie steps up to help Niko with watching Sophie as the hockey season playoffs approach and he invites her to move-in so she has a place to live when her best friend moves in with her boyfriend (Ellie and Lincoln from book #1). Their attraction is pushed to the side as they both prioritize wanting stability for Sophia, so their romance is a very slow burn which allows them to really get to know each other and gives readers a chance to fall for these wonderful characters.
Sophia is sweetheart and clearly loved by her daddy and all his teammates! Loved how this little girl had them all wrapped around her finger without becoming a brat.
The author included plenty of fun (goat yoga with hockey players), exciting hockey scenes that helped to propel the story and balanced the emotional storyline.
I definitely intend to keep my eye out for more books by this talented author!
I received a free ARC from the author and Love Notes PR; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
I was given this ARC free for a honest review The Perfect Assist blends sports romance with emotional healing, offering a heartfelt story about connection, growth, and finding balance both on and off the ice. When Sadie joins the ice hockey team to support the players through yoga and mindfulness, she brings more than just physical training—she introduces emotional awareness and calm to a high-pressure world. Her role quickly becomes essential, even as she struggles with her own insecurities and inner demons, making her journey deeply relatable.
At the center of the story is Sadie’s growing closeness with the team’s captain, a devoted single father whose “daddy captain” energy adds warmth and depth to the romance. Their connection develops slowly and authentically, shaped by mutual respect and vulnerability rather than instant attraction. Meanwhile, Niko’s emotional arc adds another compelling layer as he comes to terms with Sadie’s presence in his daughter’s life. Watching him navigate protectiveness, fear, and ultimately acceptance makes his character feel raw and real, especially as he learns to confront and work through long-buried feelings.
What makes The Perfect Assist stand out is its balance: romance intertwined with personal growth, mindfulness woven into competitive sports, and love developing alongside healing rather than replacing it. The story doesn’t shy away from emotional complexity, instead embracing it as part of what makes the relationships meaningful. Overall, this is a tender, character-driven sports romance that will resonate with readers who enjoy slow-burn love stories, found family, and characters who grow together by facing what scares them most. Overall this book blends laughter with ahh moments great light read

The Perfect Assist 💜 Firstly,I want to thank LoveNotes PR and Jillian Arly for trusting me with this ARC!✨ Sadie has always being the strange one in her family. She is deeply spiritual, something that lead her to become a yoga teacher and eventually be hired by Green Bay Bobcats. Niko may be the captain of Green Bay Bobcats but what he cares the most about is not not on the ice.His little girl has his NO1 place in every aspect of his life, with that making him always anxious about child care and who is worthy enough to take care of her. So,when Sadie is offering to help him with that while leaving with them, his entire life is going to be turned upside down. To start with,WHAT A CUTIE PIE MY BABYGIRL SOPHIE WAS.🧸 I literally loved her even more than the main characters. She was funny, cute, sassy everything!Truly, every time she was on page I laughed so hard, with my heart being so full.Even, going into our main couple,I can honestly say they were pretty good written, both as individuals and together.Sadie,is a wellness girly, with her aura being so beautiful and bright. Niko,on the other hand was exactly what other describe him:A CAP DADDY.The best captain, passionate about his sport and team.A brilliant father & a true DADDY. As you understand the slow burn you are about to read, will EAT.Those two had wonderful chemistry, the best pick up lines and a love story worth remembering.
To continue, the writing style was SO GOOD.To the point that I was on 6% and I could feel it in my soul that this was going to be a 5 star!Yet,this baby is LONGG,so get your snacks and be prepared for that too. Lastly, the found family feeling was HERE long before our characters even understood that they found their forever people-just how beautiful is that! 5⭐
OMG I wasn't sure I was going to love this second book in the Green Bay Bobcats series - wasn't sure about the nanny/single dad angle but OMG I LOVED this so much! It started a little slow for me, I think since I'd already met Niko and Sadie in the first book - but once it took off - I couldn't stop reading it! I really loved that both MC's are 30 and have lived and had life experiences. The forced proximity adds another fun layer - as Sadie lives in the nanny apartment in Niko's house as well as they work together. Sophie, Niko's daughter is just the cutest! I loved that Jillian pulled from her mom experiences and while it's been many years since I had a toddler - alot of what she wrote brought back ALOT of memories. I love that both Niko and Sadie love to take care of those around them and their positive personalities - even in the face of hard things - was lovely. And while there is some steamy parts - that's not the sole focus of the book because there was ALOT of pining going on! (I'd put this in the slow burn category - which isn't normally my favorite, but this was just really well done!) And can we say how HOT it is when the MMC is big on consent (and not just for Sadie, but also a man that understands and respects women and it carries over to his 4 year old daughter!). These two were meant for each other. I'll also touch on the hockey - it's so well written and but it never takes over the story! I CANNOT wait for more from Jillian and I'm ever grateful for a chance to be an ARC reader!
The Perfect Assist by Jillian Arly 4.5 out of 5 stars (rounded up for Goodreads) ARC
Thank you Love Notes PR and Jillian for the ARC of this lovely book. All parts of this review are of my honest opinion 💚
If you’re looking for a book that makes you smile while also hitting some deep feelings, check out The Perfect Assist. It is a cute sports romance that I am sure many will love. If you wish to know some of my thoughts, look below 💞
One aspect that I loved about this book were the characters. Niko, Sophia, and Sadie are all amazing in their own way. Niko himself is not just strong physically, but emotionally as well. He does everything he can to ensure that his daughter, Sophia, is safe and happy as a single parent. Then you have Sophia who is so strong and smart. She notices everything and holds so much pain for her age. You can't help form an attachment to this cute little girl. Now here enters Sadie who introduces the team and Sophia to goat yoga and how to help themselves with meditation and more yoga. She comes from a past where she had been deemed the black sheep and was never chosen. Through all of this, she manages to help those who became her new family. These three are the perfect family 🥰
I am glad I was able to read this book and I can't wait to see what happens next with the next story. If you’re hesitating on reading, don't. It is worth the read 💞
What to expect: 🧡 Single Dad x Nanny 🐈⬛ Black Cat FMC 💜 Forced Proximity 🏒 Hockey Romance 🔥 Slow Burn 💞 Hockey Player x Yoga Instructor 🧡 Found Family
ARC review Green Bay Bobcats Series book 2. I have not read book 1. Antecdotal thoughts while reading (I do not read the author's blurb giving me book snippets. I like a completely neutral start to reading books.) I have read a few hockey books before, but I appreciated the glossary as it does contain some new hockey terms for me. Playlists are always a win for me. Niko - Single Dad due to divorce, full custody. The baby 🐐 drawings to denote passage of time within a chapter are cute. Is the "mystery brunette" and opportunistic puck bunny? Love a paremt who incentives with a trip to the bookstore for a new book! Ah, I see the goat connection now. Second chance meeting with Sadie. I'm remembering how Sophia and Sadie hit it off from the getgo at the Thanksgiving get together. Ellie is the hype girl you always need. I agree with the lavender diffuser, great idea. "Why do the Bobcats love me more than my mommy loves me?" 🥺 That guest house is screaming Sadie!!!! "My body's reaction to Sadie is starting to really piss me off." 😂 Sophia you have grown so much in your ability to articulate your feelings and having empathy for others. Niko, every one deserves a person like you in thier corner. Sorry for your loss Niko. What a great party! You are both running scared!! Communication even when it is scary!!!! Look at those hockey guys getting all sensitive. 🫠 Both of you.....get your 💩 together and talk honestly! 0h, is this bad weather going to allow for a Rom-Com style grand gesture???? Sadie, your note 😢 My ❤️ Sophia 💜💜💜
I absolutely loved "The Perfect Assist". I laughed and cried. I felt all of the things. I love it when a book makes me feel all of my emotions and this book had me whipping away my tears! ❤️ Niko and Sadie are everything. The yearning and gravitational pull they had towards each other had me swooning.
Niko Aka Cap Daddy 😍 is a single dad with the most adorable daughter ever, Sophia. The relationship or lack of relationship between Sophia and her birth mother broke my heart. Sophia is such a sweet kid and so full of life. I love how Sadie teaches Sophia how to handle her big emotions and be more open with her father when she is feeling sad. I loved the bond between Sadie and Sophia.
This little family needed some TLC and Sadie was The perfect person for the job. The Perfect Assist is a hockey Romance with a single dad, a yoga instructor, and forced Proximity. The mutual pining is off the charts between Niko and Sadie. You can feel how much they truly care for one another.
I loved Sadie and Ellie 's friendship. I wish I had a friend like them. Sadie may be the black sheep in her blood family but with the Bobcats, she found a home and people who love her unconditionally.
Tropes:
-Hockey Romance -Single Dad -Forced Proximity -Black Sheep FMC -Found Family -Mutual Pining -"Eyes on Me"
This was one of the sweetest books I’ve ever read, and my favorite character was definitely Sophia! You’ll completely understand what I mean once you read it. I absolutely love books with child characters, and Sophia is a bundle of love—such a sweet little girl. She and Sadie made an amazing duo!
Niko is a single father doing his best to raise his daughter on his own. Sophia’s mother is quite irresponsible, and although Niko tries to hold the relationship together for his daughter’s sake, it unfortunately doesn’t work out. Eventually, he builds a life just for him and his daughter.
The characters truly felt like a real family, and I loved that so much.
Sadie comes from a very successful family—her mother is a lawyer, her siblings are doctors. She’s deeply passionate about yoga and very talented at it, but sadly, she doesn’t receive much support from her family.
When Niko sees Sadie practicing yoga, he says it’s “just like my passion for hockey,” and the way they understand each other on every level was incredibly sweet.
I absolutely loved the goat yoga scene! That was definitely the moment when Nico falls head over heels in love with Sadie.
If you enjoy hockey romance, I highly recommend this book. I loved every moment of it—thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to read it!
- Hockey romance - Nanny/Yoga instructor x hockey captain - single dad - Found Family
What an incredible way to end my reading year. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC reader, and it truly exceeded my expectations.
Sadie and Niko completely stole my heart. Both carry heavy pasts and emotional scars, but what made their story so special was how they chose each other despite everything. Their growth, healing, and love felt raw, honest, and deeply emotional.
I especially loved how present Sophia, Niko’s daughter, was throughout the story. She wasn’t just in the background, she mattered. Her relationship with both Sadie and Niko added so much warmth and depth to the book.
Sadie was such a strong FMC. Fierce, kind, and deeply loving, especially in the way she connected with Sophia. She loved openly and bravely, even when it was scary, and I admired her so much for that.
Niko was everything I want in an MMC. A devoted father, a caring partner, and a true leader. His selflessness stood out, always putting the people he loved first, even when it hurt.
This was a beautiful, emotional read and easily one of my favorites of the year. I’m so happy I got to be an early reader.
Thank you to Jillian Arly and Love Notes PR for this ARC. This review reflects my honest opinion.
This book had me swooning and kicking my feet and wanting a baby goat of my own!
I loved seeing every connection grow throughout the story, which is always one of the most important parts of a single parent story. However, Jillian takes it to the next level in this one that I don't even know where to start!
Sadie is quite possibly one of the few FMC that every person in the story the she chooses to connect with elevates her. He relationship with Ellie from the first story was magical to watch, as well as how it shows Lincoln being Ellie's supportive partner by never feeling threatened by Sadie and lifting up Ellie and Sadie's friendship. That was so amazing to see!
Sadie's relationship with Sophia is to me, the most important one that has to develop. In a single dad romance, this relationship is the biggest way to the MMC's heart, and this was beautifully crafted. This relationship allowed for Sadie to grow and for Sophia to find a way to navigate her own emotions, allowing her growth as a child.
The best, however, was Sadie and Niko. Niko is a girl dad through and through, and that was evident in how he treated all of the women in his life. They were all highlighted, and he gave them the chance to evolve and become the best versions of themselves. I'm obsessed with how he gives Sadie the world.
Overall, this was the best follow up to Behind the Bench, and I can't wait to see what comes next from Jillian!
This is definitely one of the most beautiful books I’ve read in my life 🥹❤️
I loved Niko, Sophia and Sadie’s story, I loved how I could relate to Sadie, o just wanted to hug her and telling her she’s so worthy, that she’s enough and she’s so perfect just the way she is, and I’m so glad Niko was there to reminding her just that and more! U loved how their relationship was building up, ir felt so special and easy Redding how they fell for each other even when they didn’t wanted to because of their fears and insecurities
I loved Niko! I mean, he’s so perfect, he was also scared of losing Sadie and scared of how that would affect Sophia too, his little girl was his priority but I loved reading how Sadie helped him to relax and realize that he needed to take care of himself too, I was sobbing with the final chapters because it was so emotional and beautiful 🥹❤️
And of course I loved Sophia!! She’s the cutest little girl I’ve read and I loved how her bond with Sadie was so special and strong and easy too! They just loved each other so much and it was just so perfect reading how Sadie was the best thing that happened to Sophia and Niko 😩❤️
Now, in intrigued by Connor so I hope I can get the chance to read his story too 🙂↔️✨

Wow, The Perfect Assist packed an emotional one-two punch that I was not expecting to hit quite as hard as it did. I just wanted to reach through the pages and hug Sadie so badly. She had such a big heart and I'm glad that Niko and Sophia were able to effortlessly love her the way she deserved. And Niko's abandonment issues hit me right in the feels. Jillian, how dare you (said with love because she made everything all better by the end).
This series is seriously so good. I loved Behind the Bench; easily one of my top reads of 2025. And the hints Jillian dropped at the end of The Perfect Assist for book three have me so excited for what is coming next!
Single dad is one of my favorite tropes and this one was done to perfection! Niko is every woman's dream and seriously the sweetest girl dad ever!
Niko and Sadie's mutual pining and tension throughout this story was so freaking good! And the slow burn about did me in but made the story that much sweeter and oh so worth it! They had an instant connection but both come with past emotional trauma that made them so scared to jump in with their feelings for each other. Sadie wants to feel like she is enough for someone and enter Niko who thinks she is more than enough for him and his daughter. She added so much to their lives and it was so amazing to see her way of life being woven into Niko's so beautifully! The character growth that they both go on was so incredible and I feel like it brought so much to the story and made the ending so much sweeter! Sophia, Niko's daughter, was such a sweet little character and I loved that she was a huge part of this story. I just adored her and Sadie's relationship! And the ending brought tears to my eyes!! Another 5 stars for Jillian!! I am so excited for what is next!

I finished this one super quickly- it was a really easy read, despite not having read the first book in the series.
I love the single dad trope & I felt Sadie was perfect for him and their family. Sophia was such a cute character and she adds so much to the story. I appreciate that she was involved in the storyline and that they both prioritize her and her feelings. I feel like emotional growth was such a huge part of this book which I enjoyed and even with an argument they both knew what they should work on to be better.
The letters near the end had me tearing up for sure.
I really enjoyed her best friend who I assume the first book was about, love a female coach (which there was a female NHL head coach). The team is such a close knit family which is always nice with a hockey romance.
Sadie & Sophia’s names being similar threw me off in the beginning of the book, but I figured it out eventually 😭
Thank you to Love Notes PR and Jillian for an arc copy 🫶
Favourite quotes:
“No, I am lost in all things Sadie.”
“Once they meet mine, I finally realize what’s hiding in them. Desire.”
“I narrow my eyes at him, knowing full well that he knows why I was distracted.”
This was a very slow burn (for me) and an easy, light read overall. Nothing about the book stood out as bad or frustrating, but at the same time, nothing truly wowed me either. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. It sat somewhere comfortably in the middle.
One thing I really liked was how important Sophia was to the story. She isn’t just a side character and everything revolves around her. She adds a lot of warmth and grounding to the book.
The spice doesn’t really kick in until around chapter 30+, and after that, things started moving much faster. Toward the end, there’s a bit of push-and-pull between the main characters- Niko and Sadie. While I won’t spoil it, it did feel like something that could’ve been resolved with a simple communication. Instead, it felt slightly dragged out, almost like added drama to extend the story length.
✨ Overall Thoughts: A cozy, light-hearted, slow-burn romance that’s easy to get through and doesn’t demand too much emotionally. If you’re in the mood for something gentle and uncomplicated, this might work for you, just don’t expect high drama or intense spice.
Do you enjoy slow burns, or do they lose you after a while?
The Perfect Assist is the perfect read. The story of Nikko, team captain and sweet single parent and Sadie, the yoga instructor is beautiful and swoony. Nikko and Sadie are the kind of people used to giving and not receiving, protecting but not being protected and also sacrifice their own wills to help others out. When they meet, the chemistry, attraction, curiosity is instant. While Nikko struggles with the responsibility of leading his team, being a role model and raising his daughter, Sadie is like a breath of fresh air ready to help him out and make his life easier and lighter. Their pasts interfere and push down on their own insecurities, but true and pure love always wins. Nikko and Sadie complete each other in every way and show us that love is compromise, support and simply being there when it counts. Jillian Arly gives us a slow burn romance that is definitely worth the read with humour, spice, longing, chemistry, real fears and sweetest moments with Nikko’s four-year-old daughter. Thank you for the ARC.
