This book is a must have for absolute beginners learning Spanish. The structure is simple and easy to follow, with each story just the right length to introduce new vocabulary without becoming overwhelming. I especially appreciated how every story is followed by a shorter summary and then a full English translation, which makes it effortless to compare phrases line by line and reinforce understanding. Practice through immersion
This book provides a way to practice Spanish through natural immersion. The stories are more complex and interesting than many others at this Spanish level. A side effect of this is that the stories are harder to understand, though for many, this is entirely worth it. One can only read conversations about counting fruit so many times, after all. Personally, I found it helpful to read the vocabulary list both before and after each story. This allowed me to understand the writing more easily.
