Seven years ago, Paul Easton broke my heart. We were inseparable—until one humiliating yearbook photo and one terrible night blew everything up. Now he’s a superstar, and his gorgeous face is everywhere. On movie posters. On talk shows. On my nerves.
And how am I, Scarlett Emerson, doing? As a big New York City journalist, I’m thriving, in case anyone’s keeping score. So when I land the assignment to write an exposé on him, I say yes. Not to reconnect. To show him how much better off I am without him.
At first, everything goes to plan. I’m detached and professional. Until he smiles. Until his dog decides to adopt me. Until we stumble into a long-buried Civil War-era mystery . . . and start solving it together. Now I’m trying to write the story that could make my career—while pretending I’m not still hopelessly in love with the boy who taught me what heartbreak feels like.
This was supposed to be revenge. Instead, it might just be my second chance.
Katie Talbot writes sweet, witty romantic comedies featuring smart, sassy heroines and the larger-than-life men who fall for them. Her debut five-book series, Celebrity Love in New Orleans, is set in the quirky, romantic city she now calls home.
Her books are sweet and clean, never spicy, because New Orleans is hot enough.
Originally from the Midwest, Katie fell in love with the Big Easy’s music, food, and charm. She lives there with her husband and their three children, where she balances family life with dreaming up banter-filled love stories.
Secretly Yours is a wonderfully written novel about two best friends who are fated for love. So many emotions are entangled in these pages for me: I was crying, laughing, swooning, and my heart was breaking. Also, who doesn’t love a featured, lovable canine companion! That’s always added bonus points for me. I loved how the romance flowed through the pages while still holding a dignified closed door romance concept. I flew through the last couple of chapters, especially the last one with the elevator scene, it just captured the romantic in me.
I want to sincerely thank NetGalley for sending me my first ARC through them and a special thanks to Katie Talbot for writing this beautiful story.
Other woman drama… ugh. instant hate for me. The FMC is just pathetic.., like just sitting there like a mug being an idiot for this man and then after 7 years instantly went back to doing the same shit. 5 months for him then to sort his shit out. Grow up
Secretly Yours was super cute and easy to fall into. I was rooting for Scarlette...most of the time. There was a time or two I thought "girl, seriously, what are you doing?!😏" She was relatable and likeable though and, like everyone, made mistakes and had to learn some hard lessons. Paul though...LOVE me some Paul💜. Even though he wasn't completely blameless, I fell in love with his character from the beginning. Once he opened back up, he totally had a golden retriever personality! Of course, like all rom coms, there were times of predictability, but that's ok because duh... it's a rom com. I smiled, giggled, and even teared up some. The banter was chefs kiss and kept the pace moving along. It wasn’t perfect, but it was fun and exactly the kind of book you reach for when you want swoony moments. Solid 4 stars, would happily recommend for a sweet, feel good read. I will be reading more books from Katie Talbot!

ARC REVIEW Thank you to Netgalley, Lake Vista Press and author Katie Talbot for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC prior to release date in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book was a fun, fast, easy read. I do think that perhaps I’m not the target audience, or at least I shouldn’t be. This is the type of book I would’ve devoured at 14 and I think it should be marketed as a bit more YA, the characters although in their twenties, acted and felt much younger, and I think if they were aged down a little bit and the book was marketed towards tweens/teens, it would be a huge hit.
In saying that though, I did enjoy it. It was fast paced, and although predictable and a bit cringe and unrealistic at times, that’s sort of what you look for in a light-hearted romcom, so I do think it delivered in that aspect!
If you’re looking for something quick, easy, light hearted and fun then this is the perfect book for you!

I really enjoyed this book it was quick read. But sometimes Paul and Scarlett kept doing things that got on my nerves !! Like when they were kissing and a few minutes later he said oh no she's like a sister to me BUT when she did the same thing nah he gets angry !
I loved her roommate Winnie and B2 also the uncle and Jolie!!
The story was cute and I LOVED WHEN HE WAS JEALOUS. but i felt like the background story and why their friendship ended was meh it was not that deep for me. I felt bad for him when he found out about the truth and what she was actually doing in town. At the end I felt like the story was all over the place but at the same time I enjoyed the story .

Secretly Yours follows Anna, a New York City journalist, who accidentally messes up one assignment, and is left with no options but to revisit her hometown and write about Paul Easton, the boy who broke her heart 7 years prior - did I mention he’s now a full-blown movie star? 🌟 What she intends to be revenge, ends up being something more… An easy, comforting read that flowed effortlessly, so much so I finished in less than 24 hours. While the storyline was predictable, it still delivered the type of romance I was looking for. Sometimes a familiar love story that is light-hearted is exactly what hits the spot. 💕 I’m off to download the previous 3 books in the Celebrity Love in New Orleans Series 📖 👋
The vibes - Sweet, rom-com, light humor, and predictability that makes it an easy ready. 🥰
Thanks Katie Talbot, NetGalley and Lake Vista Press for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I will say right at the start that I'm not usually a big reader of single 1st person POV. I kept expecting to jump into Paul's POV and it didn't happen. Scarlett sort of gave me Bridget Jones vibes as the kind of clutzy but skilled journalist that gets friendzoned by the love of her life. The story itself is very sweet. A combination of incidents back in their last year of high school was the final straw for Scarlett as Paul kept taking her for granted while chasing what seemed like every other girl in school. Seriously he was a jerk at the same time as being a sweet slightly clueless hottie. It might have seemed an overreaction on Scarlett's part to cancel the European holiday with Paul and basically ghost him for seven years, but hell, he would probably have been picking up gorgeous French and Italian girls all the way across Europe while leaving Scarlett to read the maps and act like his concierge. When Scarlett is asked to do an expose on the now world famous Paul, she is horrified. At first. Then she thinks. Why not have a little revenge. Only Paul in real life is much nicer than the monster she'd built him up to be in her imagination. Also. Dog. Any man who is as devoted to his dog Jolie as Paul is, must have a softer side. This is not only a slow burn, there are very few sparks at all. The sweet promise is adhered to strictly and we don't get more than a few kisses, not explicitly described. Which is fine. I like it when I know what I'm getting. The plot is mostly low angst although we know that Scarlett's secret is going to blow things out of the water (is there water in New Orlean's apart from hurricanes). Other woman drama was a little irritating but that might be just me. I did really enjoy the small mystery and would have liked to see more of that. The outcomes are told rather than shown which was a little bit of a let down. The ending was sweet and even though I was expecting the surprise, it was nice to be proven right. I haven't read the earlier books in the series but will probably keep an eye out for them when I'm after a low angst sweet read.

Scarlett Emerson and Paul Easton were the best of friends... until they weren't. When she realized she'd never be to him what she wanted to be, and that she couldn't trust him, their friendship imploded. Paul became a famous heartthrob movie star and Scarlett became a hotshot New York City journalist. With her career on the line, Scarlett's tasked with writing an exposé on Paul, and she wants revenge! When they reunite, it's like sliding on your favorite jeans... with a couple of rips. There's still hurt there, but it's just so natural and comfortable. Will Scarlett and Paul fall head over heels or will they end up hating each other?
Secretly Yours was a bit of a roller-coaster ride. Friends to enemies to friends to lovers is quite the journey for a book with just under 300 pages, but the ride was worth it! This book was so adorable! A bit more "rom" than "com" but there were plenty of funny moments. My biggest issue was that I liked the side characters more than I liked Scarlett and Paul. My favorite characters were Ignatius and Winnie. Jolie wins the "goodest girl award" for continuously bringing Paul and Scarlett together. I would be remiss if I didn't bring up my favorite minor character, Robert. He was truly the perfect guy (I don't want to spoil it so I'll stop there). Scarlett and Paul were just so frustrating! They're adults and so many problems could have been fixed by having a few adult conversations!
The plot was predictable, but every rom-com is. There were absolutely still surprises along the way, but rom-coms are built on characters, dialogue, and feelings more than plot and plot twists. Secretly Yours was the perfect palate cleanser to follow my last read. It was a light-hearted, no spice, fast and easy read. While part of a series I haven't read, it is a standalone. If you're looking for a cutesy read to disappear into for a few hours, Read It!

**MINI BLURB**
Seven years after Paul Easton broke her heart, a successful NYC journalist gets assigned to write an exposé on him. What starts as a mission for revenge turns complicated when old sparks reignite, his dog warms up to her, and they uncover a Civil War-era mystery together. What was supposed to be a story of vindication might become a second chance at love.
Secretly Yours was a cute and quick second-chance romance that was easy to read and overall enjoyable. Paul was a total sweetheart, but the story leaned heavily on miscommunication, and the initial fallout between him and Scarlett felt a bit overblown and dragged out. I liked the softer, happy moments between them and the mystery subplot, and there was definitely a sense that they should work as a couple. That’s what made some of the choices more frustrating—especially Scarlett keeping major secrets for far too long and carrying most of the emotional weight in the relationship. Personally, I wished to have seen more emotional depth, particularly from Paul’s POV. Some conflicts wrapped up too neatly, while others lingered longer than necessary.
This book was fun and fast read! If you want a light, clean, feel-good romance with a happily ever after, this book is for you.

This is a 3.75 for me. Scarlett has been friend-zoned by Paul their entire friendship. Unfortunately for Scarlett, she has been in love with him for the same amount of time. Living on separate coasts, they meet again in their hometown after not speaking to each other for seven years. Scarlett, a journalist, has been assigned to write a profile on Paul, the movie star.
The beginning of this novel was a little chaotic. I understand what Talbot was trying to accomplish in utilizing those chapters as characterization for Scarlett. However, rather than it being humorous and drawing me in, I was tempted to put the book down and not return to it. I did push through, and once Scarlett gets her new story assignment, the book really focused in on the true plot.
This was a quick read, and the tumult experienced by Paul and Scarlett kept the audience turning pages. I especially enjoyed the way that Talbot showed the various faces of Paul. He is most endearing when he is his most authentic self.
I wish that Talbot would have allow Scarlett to have the conversation with Paul about the article she was supposed to write. He still could have been upset with her because she broke his trust. I wasn’t a fan of all of the “ I overheard this conversation while you were on FaceTime” and then having Paul walk in on the conversation with George as well. That seemed a little contrived and took away from the sincerity of the characters.
I did like the character of Winnie, and her interactions with Scarlett were fun and I would’ve liked to see more of those. The dating stories were hilarious, and I think she is a great character to develop more. I also loved the uncle, Ignatius; it is refreshing to see the busybody character with good intentions manifest itself as a male character.

This was a cute quick read, however the conflict just wasn’t hitting a mark that I liked. overall it felt a little fast paced, the conflict as it went on started to feel like filler. And it felt like the main character did a 180 in personality with not enough time to get to know him through one point of view- a 180 into liking her one minute he says “she’s like my sister” (which I hate this sentence okay 😭) and when she dished it back to him he hated it (how do you think Scarlett felt all those years Paul) also speaking of - while they were in high school it would’ve been nice to touch on the party a little more and for Paul to grovel a little more for Scarlett after saying “no I don’t think of her that way. I never would” come on Paul put your “pride” aside and grovel a little.
I think it also was a little harder for me to like Paul / understand him because we don’t see how he feels, but that’s the style of the book sometimes it works but it would’ve been nice to see it because it’s like he just flipped a switch and fell for her and we missed the context - to me it felt like it happened after he saw her ready for their double date and I didn’t like that it was basically “he wants her because he can’t have her” sort of plot in a way. And he was overly touchy and clingy just because they were together (at this point mind you maybe an hour at most) he said “I’m going to touch you whenever I want now” and it just did not land how I think she intended it to, at least to me. Felt like insta love by him and I don’t love when books have that kind of character
I also didn’t like that her published book that he bought SEVERAL copies of was just brushed over as a plot
I need a book just for Tony and Winnie
Thank you to BookSirens for the arc!
Happy reading! - Mona

Imagine meeting your estranged best friend from high school once again in your hometown seven years later, where it all began. Everything has changed, and yet, nothing has.
One humiliating yearbook photo and a heartbreaking incident were the final straws for Scarlett Emerson to move away and cut off her best friend and unrequited love, Paul Easton. Seven years later, she returns to her hometown as a thriving New York journalist to write a career-saving exposé on the heartthrob of the nation, movie star Paul Easton. She reconnects with him and spends time under the guise of uncovering a Civil War-era mystery. The real question is, will revenge be served? Or something long-lost rekindled?
“Secretly Yours” by Katie Talbot was one of the most swoon-worthy romance books I’ve read so far! I related to Scarlett to a great extent, and my heart broke every time a sliver of hope crept into her heart. The characters are written with such conviction that each one made me feel something, even “clickity-clack” Patricia. Uncle Ignatius and my sweet Jolie, Paul’s dog, deserve a special mention!
If I’m being honest, I initially found the whole revenge angle to be quite juvenile. But then it occurred to me that it’s simply human nature to slip into old thought processes when we meet people from a time we no longer relate to. However, Scarlett always had me holding my head every time she carelessly let something crucial slip oh-so-casually. The only part that didn’t sit well with me was the interaction between Scarlett and her parents throughout the book.
Regardless of that, I absolutely loved the book! I have never cried so much over one, especially towards the end—first, out of pain and sadness, and then came the tears of joy. “Secretly Yours” healed a part of my teenage heart, for sure!
Super cute, fast read but my goodness the red flags were waving so hard. Scarlett and Paul have been best friends since childhood. And as most teenagers do, they have that ‘are they together or not?’ type of relationship. Until Paul makes it very clear at a graduation party that they don’t. Seven years later, Scarlett is sent to New Orleans to get an exclusive on Paul who is now a famous actor, so she can impress her boss and get the promotion she’s been working towards as a reporter. So of course, commence all the rom-com drama. Like the last seven years have happened, Scarlett and Paul fall into their old routines, including his penchant for reminding everyone that they are just friends. But when Scarlett has to choose between her story/career and Paul, it all goes awry.
Here’s where it lost me. Paul is a walking red flag. After all this time and the explanations of why Scarlett walked away after high school, he still treats her the exact same way AND SHE LETS HIM. What?!? Then, when she hesitates in her decision about her job he loses his mind and stops speaking to her again. But seriously Scarlett needed to let that mess go too when he left her hanging for over five months.
The side characters were incredible and I’d love a whole book about Winnie and 2B. I’d even take one about Ignatius as well. They provided some pretty great comic relief. And the story Scarlett did end up writing was a nice touch.
So it was worth reading if you can get past the ridiculous choices the main characters kept making.

I have been a book lover for as long as I can remember, and romance has always been the genre I reach for first. Lately, I have found myself especially drawn to second chance romances. There is just something so satisfying about watching two people reconnect, work through what went wrong the first time, and slowly find their way back to each other. Because I adored “Suddenly Yours,” I was beyond excited to pick up this book, and I am happy to say it fully lived up to my expectations.
This story struck such a great balance between humor and heart. The FMC was the kind of character who was impossible not to root for, even during those moments when you wanted to gently nudge her and tell her to just be honest already. The emotional tension felt real, but it never overshadowed the warmth of the story. I really appreciated that both characters eventually had to step outside their comfort zones and get out of their own way in order to reach their happy ending.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, sweet, and filled with moments that made me smile from start to finish. I would absolutely love to see a bonus epilogue for these two someday, because I am not quite ready to say goodbye yet. I also plan on going back to read the other books in the series, since this one reminded me exactly why I enjoy this author’s work so much.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
This is the fourth instalment in the Celebrity Love in New Orleans series, and honestly… this series just does not miss. Each book works perfectly well as a standalone, but slipping back into this world feels like returning to a favourite cosy corner.
Anna’s revenge arc going delightfully off-script was the highlight here. There’s something deeply satisfying about a character realising they’ve been emotionally shadowboxing with the wrong narrative. And Paul… well, he benefits greatly from her change of perspective.
The real scene-stealers, though, are the family members. Their not-so-subtle nudging, orchestrating, and occasional bulldozing of Anna and Paul into each other’s orbit added a layer of humour that genuinely made me chuckle. It’s chaotic, it’s meddlesome, and it’s exactly the kind of energy this story thrives on.
The mystery subplot was a lovely touch. It added a thread of suspense that elevated the story beyond a straightforward romance… although I’ll admit I wanted more of it. It felt like a tantalising side dish that deserved a slightly bigger portion.
Overall, this was another warm, easy, and quietly addictive read in a series that clearly understands the assignment. Cosy, entertaining, and just dramatic enough to keep things interesting… even if I’m technically not the target audience, I’m absolutely still seated.
Thank you Katie Talbot for providing this ARC of Secretly Yours in exchange for my review.
I went into this book really wanting to love it, and while there were elements I genuinely enjoyed, the story ultimately didn’t come together as fully as I hoped.
The mystery subplot kept me engaged, and I appreciated the quieter moments where the main characters are happy together. There’s a real sense that they SHOULD work well as a couple, which made the story’s shortcomings more frustrating, as the potential was clearly there.
My biggest challenge was with the execution of the central romance. Much of the conflict relied on a lack of communication and somewhat contrived misunderstandings, which made the emotional beats feel less organic. The FMC is put through the wringer for most of the book, often doing the majority of the emotional labor and sacrificing (in my opinion) far more than the MMC. While she seems to understand her own worth, her actions didn’t always reflect that, making it harder at times to fully root for the relationship.
Overall, this felt like a story with strong ideas and appealing dynamics that didn’t quite reach its full potential for me. Readers who enjoy emotionally intense romances may still find plenty to like here, but I was left wanting more balance, communication, and payoff from the central relationship.
I received an advance copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

She’s the former high school nerd turned journalist on the verge of starting her career in investigative journalism, and he’s her high school best friend turned movie star she needs to get a juicy story from. Under the guise of uncovering a case of historical revisionism, Scarlett and Paul reconnect and rekindle their old friendship.
Overall, I enjoyed the story; I loved the ambience of New Orleans; I loved Jolie, Winnie and Ignatius; I loved the creepy, haunted house.
BUT, I do not like Paul. The entire novel I’m begging Scarlett to stand up. Paul is a himbo without the charm or emotional intelligence. Who asks someone if you can kiss them then kisses them on the forehead? Who tells you it’s hard not to touch you but in a platonic way? Who kisses someone as a distraction? The nerve of this man to call you his sister then crash out when she calls him her brother. This man is giving mixed signals then gaslighting you into thinking you’re crazy for seeing them. Scarlett, girl, STAND UP. RUN.
Oh, I was in denial about my feelings for like a decade. Go to therapy.
Scarlett, don’t let a crush and years of pining stop you from meeting your husband. Mr. Veterinarian, Robert, is right there.
plot was fun, and the book itself made me laugh, but god i hated the mcs.
how freaking hard was it for scarlett to just spit out the truth ffs. "oh but he loves me so much at this moment i just can't say it!!!" stfu. and frankly, she was so pathetic... she jumped him literally the first chance she got. and then she just kept begging and begging and begging for him. frankly, i don't think "pathetic" is strong enough a word to describe her. she needs a new word created just for her.
paul was such a guy (negative). like "omg we were friends for 8 years but suddenly i'm like. in love with you! it was always you! and i'm jealous over you talking to other men." please bffr. he didn't deserve the second chance at all??? hell, he barely even apologized??? like "yeah, sorry. i did that. but you're even worse!!!" is not an apology. scarlett, girl, please STAND UP omg. i genuinely don't think i've hated an mmc (that wasn't one of those manwhore types) as much as i hated paul. literally had ZERO redeeming factors.
And honestly, i thought they were kind of... forced together? they didn't have any chemistry or anything. maybe it would've been better if we've gotten mmc's pov as well, cause i genuinely don't understand how he fell for her.
really loved uncle ignatius and winnie/2b! wish we'd gotten their story.
This is a great clean romance laced with humour, friendship, banter, and an organic relationship that has roots in childhood.
Scarlett and Paul were friends since childhood, but when she started having feelings for him the friendship imploded after high school, and they went their separate ways. Now years later fate brings them together as she has to write an expose on her now famous ex friend. And here is where the story takes off and shines, in the build up from enemies to friends, then from friends to lovers.
The familiarity that exists between them makes the new awareness of their mature selves fresh and somehow very natural. Though she has already matured and her feelings come barreling back again, it takes Paul a bit more to mature, and once he realizes that he doesn't see her as a sister but the woman who challenges him, the story moves into a slow burn (close door rom com) that is predictable, yet deliciously easy to read!
I love how Katie Talbot adds a group of characters that form a family, that support, that help carry the story forward, and this time she added a cute pup, they bring in some of the comendy and needed respite to the romance and drama in the story.
An addictive read! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This story was such a fun mix of romance, nostalgia, and a little unexpected mystery. I went in expecting a classic second-chance love story, but it ended up being so much more layered and engaging. Scarlett is easy to root for—smart, driven, and just a little bit stubborn when it comes to her past. Her voice feels real, especially in the way she tries to convince herself she’s completely over Paul. Paul, on the other hand, could have easily come off as the cliché “famous ex,” but he’s surprisingly warm and human beneath all the celebrity shine. Their chemistry? Still very much alive—and it shows in all the little moments: the awkward tension, the lingering looks, and yes, even the dog scenes (which were adorable and stole a few scenes for me). One of my favorite parts was the Civil War-era mystery woven into the story. It added a fresh twist and gave Scarlett and Paul a reason to reconnect in a way that felt natural rather than forced. Watching them work together while navigating their unresolved feelings made the story feel dynamic and fun. Overall, this is a sweet, engaging read with just enough emotional depth to keep you invested. Perfect if you’re in the mood for a light romance with a bit of intrigue and a lot of heart. I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Lake Vista Press and am voluntarily leaving my review.
STANDALONE in the CELEBRITY LOVE IN NEW ORLEANS series
This book was my favorite kind of celebrity romance: when the characters were friends before one of them became famous. I think it makes for a much more authentic and healthy relationship from the start, and I really like when characters have previous history and misunderstandings to power through. This was a pretty fun read, honestly. The situations both these characters put themselves in, along with an adorable golden retriever made for a great setting to rekindle old feelings. The slow burn was almost painful because it was so obvious that Paul felt something but it took him so looooong to understand, I was ready to throw the book across the room. I knew the miscommunication trope was coming, but I still hoped it wouldn't and I was a bit mad at how everything was handled, because it could have been avoided, but like us, characters are human and make mistakes so I forgive them. They had really sweet moments, and although some dialogues felt a bit repetitive at times, the romance was really sweet and relatable. All in all, an exciting childhood friends to lovers celebrity romance!
I recommend if you like sweet and addictive romcoms.
Secretly Yours is a cozy, warm, feel‑good rom‑com set against the vibrant backdrop of New Orleans. The story follows Scarlett Emerson, a New York journalist who’s assigned to write a fluff profile piece on her former best friend and mega celebrity — Paul Ellison- all in an attempt to redeem herself after a botched investigative assignment.
Scarlett once fell hard for Paul, but a graduation‑night misunderstanding shattered their friendship and sent them in opposite directions for seven years. Now, fate (and her jerk of an editor) throw them back together. What starts as a revenge‑tinged assignment quickly shifts into a second chance neither of them saw coming.
This story is a bit predictable at times, but in the best “comfort read” kind of way. Katie Talbot shines in her character development — I genuinely felt connected to Scarlett and Paul. The storytelling hits several of my favorite rom‑com elements: animal chaos, a strong heroine, a hilarious best friend, and a few unexpectedly emotional moments that even got a tear or two out of me.
While it didn’t quite land in 5‑star territory for me, it’s a solid 3.5‑star read — sweet, cozy, charming, and absolutely worth picking up when you’re craving something light and heartwarming.
This is a nice, second chance romance that is easy to read. Paul was an absolute sweetie. He and Scarlett had been best friends for ages when she totally ghosts him after hearing him say something that upset her, because she’s had a crush on him. She even takes an airplane to flee. But sweet Paul chases after her and tried ninety-nine times (!!) to talk to her, but she never gives him even the chance to explain himself. Then, seven years later, her horrible boss forces her to write an expose on him. But instead of coming clean to Paul right away, she’s trying to gather private information for her article. Of course this was the plot of the story but I couldn’t believe her for keeping mum for so long. Her wanting revenge was quite petty. Luckily, she falls in love with him all over again and love conquers all in the end. There were some scenes that felt unrealistic to me (blowing up a major story because you needed to beat toddlers at a race?) but overall it is a light, clean feel good story with a happily ever after. Thank you Dragonblade Publishing, Netgalley and Katie Talbot for providing an advanced copy of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed it; all thoughts and opinions are my own. ..
This book is about second chances, unresolved feelings, and the quiet power of emotional honesty between two people who never quite got over each other. Secretly Yours follows Scarlett, an investigative reporter whose career is hanging by a thread, and Paul, her former best friend and teenage crush—now a glossy Hollywood star. When Scarlett’s final shot at saving her job requires writing a gossip piece about Paul, the past they never confronted comes rushing back.
What truly shines is the emotional depth. Katie Talbot takes her time unpacking Scarlett’s anxiety, regret, and vulnerability, making her feelings feel immediate and real rather than skimmed over. The reconnection between Scarlett and Paul is tender and thoughtful, built on conversation and understanding instead of melodrama. Paul is especially refreshing: emotionally open, kind, and radiating total golden-retriever energy—a welcome change from the brooding stereotype.
The supporting cast adds warmth and humor, from Winnie’s disastrous dating life to the wonderfully eccentric Uncle Ignatius, who steals every scene he’s in. Light, heartfelt, and genuinely engaging, this is a sweet, fast-paced romance that delivers emotional payoff without overstaying its welcome.
__
No me gusto. Siento que Scarlett nunca siguió adelante, mientras que a él si le dolió por un tiempo, pero no le afecto.
Era necesario que Paul tuviera povs porque incluso al final no me creo que se enamorara en 5 minutos.

Sweet, Quick Rom-Com with Estranged Childhood BFFs Reconnecting to Become More in NOLA
This is a standalone in the the NOLA series with all new characters and I have to admit I did not enjoy it as much as the previous books in the series. Although the story was good, and some of the background characters were amazing, I found that parts of the main character's feelings /motivations were not as well developed and felt "rushed". Their disconnect was mostly based on miscommunications and misunderstandings and while the initial estrangement was explained away with a few sentences by Paul to Scarlett, he was much less forgiving 7 years later, but then suddenly everything seems okay? Other than that, I enjoyed the banter, settings, background characters, and even the secondary mystery fueling Scarlett's journalism career. I look forward to more in the series - Enjoy!

Secretly Yours, the 4th book in the Celebrity Love in New Orleans series by Katie Talbot is the 2nd book I’ve read in this series and I loved it just as much, if not more, than the first one, Suddenly Yours, the 3rd book. I’ll definitely be purchasing the first 2 books because I really enjoy Ms. Talbot’s style of writing. This is a clean, fresh approach to contemporary romance with more of a story line than just steam and sex. Scarlett and Paul’s story is a second chance romance with lots of misunderstandings but it’s just as heartfelt and charming as Suddenly Yours. And I loved Jolie! Who doesn’t love a furbaby thrown into the romance mix. And Paul’s uncle is a real hoot and just adds to this standalone romance story. Katie Talbot has quickly become a one-click author for this reader. I’m grateful to NetGalley for having been given the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.
Secretly Yours is part of the Celebrity Love in New Orleans series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I was drawn in from the very first chapter of this book and loved the roller coaster ride between the main characters. The first chapter and feelings of unrequited love as a teenager was engaging and took you back to high school days. Also the mascot race had me in hysterics. It was so funny and you could clearly picture this in your head. I also loved the dates the roommate was going on. It kept it lighthearted. I loved the reconnection between the FMC and MMC. I would have liked to have seen more about what happened around the Europe trip and I felt like this was missing. I really wanted to know what the MMC thought and how their wires got so crossed. This was a really sweet story of rekindling high school love and I can’t wait to go back and read other books in the series I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
3.5⭐️Sweet, clean, 2nd chance, friends to more story.
Paul and Scarlett were best friends since they were kids. Scarlett had feelings for him but he never knew and didn’t see her that way. They lost touch after high school for years after a miscommunication and unrequited feelings caused her to skip their planned trip to Europe and move to NY.
Seven years later, they both end up back at home. He is now a movie star and she is a journalist. They end up reconnecting with a little push from his uncle, but it was not a smooth reunion. The miscommunications got super frustrating at times but I knew they would eventually get on the same page so I didn’t give up on it.
Some of my favorites: - Uncle Ignatius (just in general but also his difficulty with all things tech) - Jolie - ALL the elevators - Paul standing up to her parents - 2B.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC! This was a quick and easy read, clean and no spice. Some of the background characters seemed lovable (the uncle, the friend) but it felt like they were just thrown in randomly here and there and I wish they were more consistent. I also loved the dog, Jolie - probably my favorite character!
The main characters were simple and a bit boring and also annoying. The dialogue was good but their personalities lacked at times and their actions seemed annoying and immature. I read a review that compared this book to a Hallmark movie and I agree - but it’s like a Hallmark sister movie, not quite Hallmark level.
I feel like I experienced no feelings reading this book which is unfortunate. I would not reccomend this book unless you’re just looking for mindless reading and trying to meet a goal - sorry.
