Backwards is the true story of one big firm trial lawyer's after death face-to-face communication with God/Source about the mysteries of life and death. Backwards shatters the age-old belief that we are mere humans, that fate determines our destinies, and that a task master God demands our obedience and worship. Nanci L. Danison, JD, brings the credibility of a trial lawyer trained to evaluate evidence to her account of the answers to our most pressing spiritual who is God? Who am I? What is the purpose of life? Why am I here? What happens when we die? And how should I live my life here on Earth? She offers a "life plan" from the afterlife that originates in and resonates with our true spiritual nature, and provides step-by-step guidance on how to access and develop our Source-like traits in order to bring peace and happiness to our own lives and our planet.
Before retirement, I was a practicing health lawyer and former litigator for 36 years, first with a prestigious, Midwestern 270-attorney regional law firm, and then as a solo practitioner. I was listed from 1998-2019 in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, a listing of the 5% of U.S. attorneys voted by their peers to have "A" level legal skills and very high ethics. I was also named one of Central Ohio's "Top Lawyers" for 2009-2019 in the practice areas of Medicare and Medicaid law and health care law by Columbus CEO Magazine. In 1998, I was listed in Who’s Who in American Law for recognized leadership and competency.
After graduating a Catholic high school with honors, I earned a BA in Psychology magna cum laude and a BS in Biology/Chemistry magna cum laude from Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston). My Doctorate in Jurisprudence is from The Ohio State University College of Law.
Prior to 1994, I devoted nearly all my attention to developing a national reputation in the fields of Medicare fraud defense and general health law representing health care corporations. I did, however, find time to help others. My community service included positions on the Boards of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation of Ohio, Inc., the Gestalt Institute of Ohio, the Columbus Cancer Center, and National Church Residences (which builds affordable housing). I also represented the local Bar Association on TV interview segments on the local Noon News for several years.
Now I devote significant time to disseminating the spiritual information I gained during an extensive afterlife experience, which followed my death in March 1994 from anaphylactic shock during an invasive radiological procedure. To date, I have published 5 books, 20 CDs or DVDs, a monthly free electronic newsletter article that answers my readers' questions, and twenty-some YouTube videos. My workshops and public presentations are detailed on the Workshops Tab.
I went into the Light as a semi-practicing Catholic and returned with all my beliefs turned upside down and backwards. Nothing I experienced or learned in the afterlife confirmed any of my former (kind of scary) religious beliefs, the human origin of which I witnessed in the form of a documentary-type review of Earth history. In its place, I was given a much simpler, kinder, more loving (but completely unlike human thinking) explanation of God/Source and its purpose for creating the universe. At the end of my life-changing sojourn in heaven, I voluntarily returned to human life to share the information I had gained. A few months after my return, I left the security of my big law firm and set up my own firm so that I would have the freedom to both practice law and bring forth my spiritual messages. Surviving death erased my fears of death. So I started doing the things fear had always held me back from enjoying. I earned a private pilot's license when I was 50, and became a licensed private detective at 55.
My beyond death experience provided me with the unique opportunity to view human life from the perspective of one who has transformed into a Being of Light, like the Beings of Light other near-death experiencers encounter. During my afterlife experience, I accessed Universal Knowledge (Source's knowledge) to answer my questions about who I am, who God is, where heaven and hell are, the purpose of life, why I'm on Earth, and what the one true religion is. Later, while merging into the Source of Creation, I adapted to its universal viewpoint. Through these perspectives, I have learned the true meaning of life, how to consciously manifest physical reality, to hold multiple simultaneous levels of self-awarenesss, to access Universal Knowledge on a wide variety of subjects at will, to recognize and experience unconditional love, to apply self-healing techniques, and to utilize many other abilities natural to us all in our spiritual state. Just at the moment when I had awaken
I really enjoyed this book for several reasons. I appreciated the positive philosophy on the meaning of life and how her NDE put my own life into perspective. She puts in a lot of detail on her NDE, and I very much enjoyed that about the book. She explains things in a way that make sense for me. It may not resonate with people who do not believe that these experiences are real, but if you are open to believing, I would strongly recommend this book.
The bottom line in this book - the key to evolving ourselves - is to have experiences and learn to love other people. It is not to work or make money or be successful or achieve. It is to learn how to unconditionally love each other and experience life. Go out and be with people, travel, embark on new adventures, create something, read something, do something! Feel the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair, the rain on your eyelashes. Create relationships with others. Love our parents and children. Spice up your life. Be loving to your spouse or lovingly end the relationship if it's not suitable. Enjoy what life has to offer and avoid thinking that work is all that matters. It is only a means of survival, a basic necessity to human form. It's about the ride of life, the journey of experiences and relationships.
Just read it. I have to now add that this book has kept me thinking on life and everything. I think it has impacted me more than I thought for it to still trigger so many things to this day!
“The human capacity for denial is larger than its Ego.” - one of my fav quotes from this book.
We have amnesia about who we (humans) really are... and this book is a wonderful source that allows us to find out -> “why”. Our amnesia (the origin of it) makes us honestly believe in the illusion we are living. And the illusion we create isn’t THAT wonderful- look back at the past 10 years. Ouch! Painful sight, right? So... What can we do? How we experience Universe? What is Death? (Step by step guide!) What is unconditional love? Is it possible to “earn” love? Relationships and manipulation. God and The Presence. Doubt and purpose of our existence. Awareness and Human (Animal) Nature. You’ll find all the answers in the powerful spiritual guide “Backwards”.
We are all beings of light and love. We’ll see it in the moment our bodies die. Until then, let’s try to keep under control the animal that dominates our minds.
If Source is God, it is the most irresponsible God that has ever been thought up in human history
This is a great way not to feel responsible for your actions. If you believe it, then you don’t have to believe in Hell. It gives no real explanation for pain that makes sense. No being in their right mind would choose to live a life of pain. It’s nihilism at it’s heart. Nothing matters. There are no significant consequences. Do whatever you want. It’s a trap into a prison of indifference that is disguised as living awake or living with love. If Source is God, it is the most irresponsible God that has ever been thought up in all of human history. It’s sad. It puts a person in a place where they will never be able to accept the one true God, who loves them, and who can bring meaning into a seemingly meaningless life. I bought the book to find out how one of my brilliant friends could believe this. The simple answer is because they want to. It feels better to not be held responsible for our actions than to be held responsible. It comes down to this one simple question if there is no Hell and you don’t believe that, what have you lost? But, if there is a Hell and you don’t believe that there is, then what will you lose for eternity? Make your choices carefully. It’s so sad that this book exists.
I’ve been though many changes of my spiritual faith over my life. Grew up catholic, was an alter boy and tried to follow the path of good. My human nature and curiosity cause me to succeed and fail in many areas.
Over the last 10 years I have tried to rekindle my faith which it did for a short time but during this time it led me to NDEs and then Delores Cannon, then Robert Monroe, Robert Bulhman, others and now Nanci Danison.
I have thankfully been stripped of my human beliefs over the years and am thankful I have these people like Nanci to have the courage and ability to come forward to speak of their experiences to not only provide hope for what to experience after death but also provide proof of our true nature which has caused a life changing event towards my path of spirituality.
This book is yet another great experience that has furthered my path towards who I will be and has given me the knowledge an drive to provide unconditional love and appreciate all that life has to offer, even it’s obstacles.
Thank you Nanci. You are achieving your mission one soul at a time. <3
Identifiable logical conclusion based on experience
This book contains a good understanding of both the material and spiritual well giving a detailed account from the office of her experiences leaving the body returning to the source and then coming back to the physical body . I have felt like this would be the way what knowledge we have these things would work . It's good to verify that others have the same conclusions. In other words the essence of soul of the mind continues to live after the animal part of being is release. The soul continues on to experience and share other experiences to give more knowledge to the soul as part of the supreme being to gain treated and greater wisdom to create perfection.
As an NDE'er myself I had a very different experience, but did receive a message. I must be honest after 40 years I still am not sure what I understood and what not. Nanci's experience were obviously more profound that anybody I have read about or met. Her narrative is a highly intelligent one bur also very "technical"? I sometimes struggled to understand references between "Light beings/souls/ human animals?
If the souls suffers from amnesia (probably a good thing!) the how will it guide the human? Anyway it let me with far more questions then answers. Hence the 3 stars.
I have been researching NDEs for almost 10 years now, while on my search for the truth, I came across the power of manifestion. Neville Goddard eventually led me to this wonderful book and- word for word, has this amazing book confirmed everything.
I have been meditating for years, I’ve heard wisdom from a “higher self” that word for word matches up with this book- a book, by the way, from 2007. The author was extremely ahead of her time. This is absolutely amazing.
Anyone who has a doubt on what life is really like, on who we really are, what we are, read this book. 10/10
During a routine biopsy, Nanci Danison had a near death experience. While the staff was busy elsewhere, Nanci found herself leaving her body and being embraced in the light and love of the other side. Her experiences were profound and changed the way she now sees the world.
In Backwards, Nanci tells us that much of what we commonly believe is wrong, is in fact backwards. The majority of us spend our entire lives looking for acceptance and chasing success because deep down we want to be good enough to be loved. However, when it comes to a life review, our accomplishments actually mean very little. It is how we loved and interacted with others that really counts. What’s more, that the love we seek is unconditional love, the love that we experience on the other side.
Consistent with works such as Conversations with God and A Course in Miracles, Backwards clarifies and simplifies the complexities that we tend to manifest into our lives. Love is the reason and the answer all at the same time, consistently living with loving intentions is the hard part.

I really loved this book. It is not so much well written, well organized, or well edited but it is an amazing account of things I have always sought to understand. It has changed my perspective on my own life and for that I am grateful.
Absolutely incredible. I hope it's all true so that we can shed our fears in this worldly life, knowing that something so wonderful awaits us afterwards.
