“The Boy Who Wrote the Constitution,” written by Rajesh Talwar, is an impactful children’s play that presents the childhood and struggles of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar in simple and sensitive language. The most special thing about the play is that it does not just narrate events, but connects Ambedkar’s life to today’s times through the conversations of five children.
The school scene, where nine-year-old Bhim is forced to sit on a sack at the back of the class because of his caste, leaves a deep impression on the reader’s mind. The teacher’s appreciation of his knowledge and hard work exposes the irony of society and also inspires the children.
The canteen scene, showing glimpses of discrimination, makes the play even more realistic. Later, Bhim’s meeting with the Maharaja of Baroda and their commitment towards his education brings a ray of hope and change in the story.
When Ambedkar returns from abroad and says, “I had forgotten that I am a Dalit,” it becomes one of the most touching lines of the play. This scene shows how, even after having education and ability, society’s prejudices don’t stop following a person.
Overall, the play introduces children to a great hero of history while teaching them equality, human dignity, and the spirit of struggle. Its presentation, dialogues, and scene-setting make it deeply impressive.

This Hindi book is written in the engaging format of a stage drama, which makes it both unique and easy to follow. Having already enjoyed the author’s previous works, I was naturally drawn to this one, and it did not disappoint.
The story is presented as a play where a group of five children—Sonia, Monika, Milan, Hari, and Karim, all between the ages of 9 and 12—come together to stage a drama on the life of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. I don't think I need to mention who wrote the constitution. Because the figure is not someone who has only wrote the constitution but also contributes enough to erase all the dusty rituals, rules which wasn't serving humanity any good .
