Simple Stories, Simple Truths by Tommy Yeo is an eye-opening book that shares valuable life lessons through ten parables. His stories were written to give his readers clarity to see what truths are hidden in plain sight in everyday life. The stories are set in fictional villages where people live in tight-knit communities. His second story, “The Bridge Nobody Crossed”, shares the idea that we often live based on assumptions or what we always knew or thought to be true. The people of the village were afraid to cross a new bridge because no one had ever done it before, and they didn’t trust it. The morale of this story struck me because of its simplicity. Fear can be a barrier to moving forward in life with happiness and peace. Similarly, “The Bird Who Forgot It Could Fly”. In it, he explores how our thinking can divert us from opportunities to grow and succeed in life. Each story is followed by a "How This Plays Out in Real Life" and a "Takeaways” section. The author’s parables “invite you to pause, observe, and see differently.” Yeo’s parable storytelling reminded me of Chinese and African proverbs, which are rich with wisdom. These parables are relevant for every season of our lives. I will gladly implement these insights and share this book with others.
