The 6th book in the Christmas Tree Fam Mysteries was released this week, and Jacqueline Frost is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. She writes under a few pen names, but this series focuses on the holidays... great side stories with news for various couples. Lots of holiday spirit. Interesting murder with an antiques theme. Definitely got me in the Yuletide spirit.
Holly White, now Gray after her marriage almost a year ago to Sheriff Evan Gray, was joining the progressive dinner around the town of Mistletoe in Maine, only a few days out from Christmas. The place chosen for the entrees was filled with Christmas cheer, along with antiques from Alice's grandmother in Sweden. But when a thief tried to steal one of the antiques, and was later discovered dead outside Alice's shop, the horror of another Christmas homicide hit them. But this year Holly wouldn't be participating in finding a killer. She was pregnant and Evan begged her to stay safe. All their friends, as well as Holly's parents at Christmas Tree Farm, kept an eye on Holly and while she knew their hearts were in the right place, Holly was frustrated at not being able to help.
But Holly had a plan - would she - with some help from her friends - find the killer before the Christmas season was over?
A Wonderful Christmas Crime is the 6th in the Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series by Jacqueline Frost and I really look forward to a new addition at this time each year. It means the beginning of the season for me, when I read more Christmas stories and the day creeps closer in real time. Excellent characters fill the feel good, lots of fun series, with only the bad guys needing the boot. Once again, I'll look forward to #7 next year, and recommend the series highly.
With thanks to NetGalley & Crooked Lane Books for my digital ARC to read and review.
This is such a fun series and I look forward to reading the latest in the life of Holly and Evan's Christmas adventure every year and visit the whole close knit gang of friends and family. This year the couple just found out that they will have a new family addition next summer so Holly has to be good and stay out of trouble but when a friend is accused of murder, she has to do something. An antique road show is in town and the murder seems to be linked to the people involved. Lots of suspects and red herrings make this another fun read with a festive town setting, fun reindeer games, yummy treats, and hot beverages to ward off the cold, snowy days. Oh and danger and suspense thrown it. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.
A Wonderful Christmas Crime by Jacqueline Frost 4 Stars Book 6 in the Christmas Tree Farm
Another cute Christmas cozy mystery in this series! :) We follow Holly White and her husband Sheriff Evan Gray as she is expecting! Holly agrees to take it easy because she has elevated blood pressure. There is an attempted robbery of an antique ornament. The thief manages to escape....but they find their body later.....someone was in town to kill them and now they have another mystery to solve.
I really liked the romance with Holly and Evan continued in this book. It's natural, sweet and clean. The small town and side characters in this book are SO cozy and you just love seeing them try to figure out what happened.
Only a couple of small swear words, no explicit content, making this an overall clean series to get into.
A Wonderful Christmas Crime is #6 of the Christmas Tree Farm Mystery by Jacqueline Frost. The book starts off right in the beginning chapter when main characters Holly and Evan share a wonderful surprise with their readers. It’s Christmas on the tree farm and in the town of Mistletoe. On the busiest time of the year while Christmas shoppers are everywhere a murder happens. This is an annual occurrence in Mistletoe and our sleuth Holly is grounded from getting involved in the investigation. Her husband Evan who happens to be the Sheriff wants her to let him do his job and find out who murdered this year’s victim. Find out how that all goes when you read the book. I thought the book had a wonderful ending. Though I didn’t guess Whodunnit I wasn’t too surprised by who the real murderer was. The story is very Christmassy . There’s some edge of seat reading before the real murderer is revealed. I recommend this book to readers of Cozy Mysteries and to those who enjoy a good Christmas story. This book can be read as a stand alone. I have only read two books in this series although I hope to read the ones I missed soon. This book is scheduled for release on 10/21/25. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are solely my own. #AWonderfulChristmasCrime #NetGalley
I am now caught up with Holly and her motley crew of family and friends in Mistletoe, ME, the Christmas themed town that has a history of having a murder every Christmas, for now the sixth year in a row. The host and fans of the podcast, Dead and Berried, have now nicknamed Holly the Gumdrop Gumshoe because Holly always inserts herself into the investigation and the center of the murder and mayhem every year.
However, this year, Holly has promised to stay out of the investigation because Evan is worried about Holly and their baby getting injured, as has been the case in the past because Holly never keeps her promises of staying out of the murder and mayhem. Furthermore, she intentionally engages in subterfuge in order to do exactly what she wants and breaking her promises to her family and friends. Oh well, this is just the way that Holly is, and it wouldn’t be a story without Holly doing her thing.
Most of the story revolves around investigating the murder of a woman who had earlier in the night tried to steal a valuable ornament from Alice, one of the participants of the progressive dinner event. Additionally, Holly believes that the murderer is leaving threatening messages to her in the daily newspaper crossword puzzle. Holly zeroes in on one particular person who was at the restaurant the night the murdered victim tried to steal the ornament. There is also another storyline of inflatable Santa’s being stolen from residents’ front yards.
By the halfway point, Evan discovers that Holly has been doing her own investigation into this person (of course she has Evan) and now the threats are getting more frightening. Evan is forced to assign babysitters to Holly because not only can she no longer be trusted to keep her promises, but she also can’t be trusted to stay out of trouble and keep herself and their baby from being targeted by a murderer. It’s deep into the second half that the storylines come to a conclusion, with one storyline ending being a real tear-jerker.
The continuing character of Holly and the rest of the Mistletoe cast was well done. Love Cookie! She is one of my fave characters. The pacing was steady and the storyline interesting. The writing was on par with the series. I’m looking at an overall rating of 3.9 that I will be rounding up to a 4star review. I want to thank NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was the first book I’ve heard in this series. I enjoyed it so much, I plan to go back and listen to the previous 5. The characters and suspense are memorable. The setting is lovely. Outstanding narration. Looking forward to the next in the series as well. Highly recommend.
I was blessed with an audio ARC. Thank you NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own and unbiased. Enjoy!
I received a free copy of, A Wonderful Christmas Crime, by Jacqueline Frost, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book six, in a Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series. Its Christmas in Mistletoe , Maine, and even though she is pregnant Holly still has a mystery to solve. Cozy Christmas mysteries are the best, I really enjoyed this story, Holly and her friends are great characters.
Can Mistletoe, Maine, get through a holly jolly holiday season without the annual holiday homicide?
Holly White Gray sure hopes so, because she has just learned that she and her husband, Sheriff Evan Gray, will be receiving an extra special gift in the new year. There is a concern about Holly’s blood pressure, which is slightly elevated, but she promises to take care of herself and avoid stress as she steps back from her hectic holiday duties. One thing she is very excited about is the town-wide progressive dinner. Evan surprised her with the ticket and can’t wait for a night out with her friends and all the delicious treats that may fulfill some of her new cravings.
The dinner is off to a great start at Cup of Cheer until someone tries to steal an antique ornament with priceless sentimental value to the owner. While the thief’s attempt is thwarted, and they get away, Holly and her friends return to the scene of the almost crime after their final dinner stop to check on its owner, Alice, and see how she is handling the traumatic event. They arrive to find a dead body.
Here we go again! Evan arrives and sees that Holly is at another holiday crime scene. Can he convince her to leave the investigation to him? Or will she and her friends try to pull a fast one to try to catch the killer themselves? Holly needs to protect that baby, which means her friends must protect her. Are they up to the task, or will there be yet another holiday homicide?
The Gumdrop Gumshoe is back and making a little extra cash as she tries to take it easy this year. She is surrounded by friends and family, determined to keep her busy and safe. A little digital investigation and asking a few questions should be okay… right? I love Holly! Her heart is always in the right place, but she has always had an inquisitive nature, and that usually gets her into trouble. Evan really tries; he knows his wife. He knew he would need reinforcements. Ms. Frost’s core characters in this series are so well-written, they are fun, caring, and truly deliver the Christmas spirit, may it be in their kind acts, the Reindeer Games, or the yummy treats they bake.
An added element this year was that the Antique Roadshow has come to Mistletoe, bringing a lot of collectors to town. The local historic train station is full of vendor booths, rare coin workshops, quill writing demonstrations, and panels for many different types of antiques. Some vendors are even part of Santa’s Village at the Reindeer Games Farm and Inn. I enjoyed learning about some unique antique treasures from Sweden.
The Roadshow means there are a plethora of would-be suspects, and Holly really wants to help clear her friend Alice’s name. She needs to be very careful and accept help from her friends. However, she wasn’t fooling everyone. A daily puzzle in the paper has answers with her name and what could be a threatening message. She also finds something suspicious in a bag she was carrying through Santa’s village. Plus, someone is stealing 12-foot-high snowmen from people’s yards. Unsure if it was a case of early baby brain, or if the baby was “sitting on her gut instinct”, but the final clue dropped into place at a terrible time. Wow, I was on the edge of my seat as the confession poured out, scary moments ensued, and the guilty party was apprehended.
A Wonderful Christmas Crime is another extraordinary holiday mystery from Jacqueline Frost. Mistletoe is an awesome place to spend the holidays, and its residents are truly special. The mysteries will make you think, but alongside that is a delightfully heartwarming story of friends and family coming together to make the best Christmas for everyone. According to Holly: “Life, like this moment, was perfect and precious. I didn’t want to miss a single moment.” I just hope we get to enjoy it with her. The rumor is that Book 7 is in the works. I can hardly wait.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
I always enjoy coming back to Mistletoe because of all the festive and laid back vibes. But this book was especially good because of the happy news at the beginning of the book.
As a fan of Holly and Evan, I was so happy to hear about this big step in their relationship. It makes it worth reading the series in order so that you can experience how their relationship first started. I love when Cozy Mysteries focuses a little on romance as well. It definitely adds to the vibe of the book.
Needless to say, I enjoyed the mystery plot as well. Although injured and recovering, Holly is a great ametuer sleuth that doesn't get too in over her head. I've always liked that about her character. I cannot wait to see what happens next in the series.
The amount of joy this series brings to me is amazing. Holly and Evan are preparing for another joyous (and murderous) Christmas season and the love surrounding them is immeasurable.
A couple of new characters, Alice and Hugo, are a welcomed addition and I can already see the potential plot lines forming!
Cookie running the inn now is so fun -her character is always there for a fun & funny time.
The author had me crying big tears towards the end with the mention of the children’s hospital. Many nights have we personally spent on the children’s floor with our daughter and it’s incredible how much your community shows up for you. She captured the emotions, the sense of community, and the steadfastness perfectly and it was easily my favorite part.
Just when I think I can’t love this series more, the author releases another book and proves me wrong. I simply adore this series. It’s full of Joy. Literally. If you’re reading this Jacqueline, are you picking up what I’m putting down? That’s my guess! 😉🥰
A Wonderful Christmas Crime the 6th instalment in the Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series by Jacqueline Frost. Innkeeper Holly White has a lot to be joyful about this season, until an attempted robbery throws the town into suspicion.
Omg I loved it! I love this series and hope that Julie can write more in the series in 2026.
What a great story to get us in the Christmas spirit. I love reading books about Christmas all year long. I loved the characters and want to be friends with Holly, Evan, Libby, Ray, Cookie, Carolyn, Samantha etc. as with most of Julie’s books you fall in love with the characters. Holly has so much going on between running jewelry business, being a newlywed, helping out at the family tree farm, and now another murder at her friends Cafe. Will she and her friends be able to stop the killer and uncover the motive behind the attempted robbery, or will the killer strike again and paint the town a bloody red?
The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and had just enough twists and turns to keep you engrossed in the story till the end.
I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.
I requested and received an Advanced Readers Copy from Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It was a delicious Christmas treat as usual from Jacqueline Frost. It's always fun to cool off with a Christmas story during the summer months and visiting with Holly, Evan, and the whole crew at the Tree Farm in Mistletoe, Maine is always special. This time, Holly and Evan are adding something a little special to the mix. When Evan treats Holly to a ticket to a rotating holiday dinner for a girl's night out she is excited to be celebrating this holiday season without the pressures of being the Innkeeper or trying to solve a mystery, just fun with friends and keeping her blood pressure down! Unfortunately, at their first stop, Holly's friend Alice's, Cup of Cheer, someone tries to steal some of her vintage Swedish holiday decorations. When the girls decide to stop back at the end of their dinner to make sure that Alice is ok, they find a dead body, it's the same woman who tried to steal the ornaments and now Alice is a suspect. While Holly desperately tries to aly everyone's fears by not investigating, you know things will not go as planned! Come along for a wonderful holiday tale with some heartwarming additions as well as plenty of snow. Many thanks to #Netgally, #CrookedLaneBooks, and the author for an opportunity to read. #AWonderfulChristmasCrime #ChristmasFarmMysteries #JacquelineFrost #bookreview #bookideas #retiredreader
This series has consistently worked for me and I was very excited to see the newest entry on NetGalley. It delivered all the things that I want from this books--community, good ship, and the ongoing effects of consistently finding dead bodies. Would recommend this cozy mystery series to anyone any day of the week.
"A Wonderful Christmas Crime (Christmas Tree Farm Mystery #6)" by Jaqueline Frost has yet another Christmas time murder happen and Holly in the middle of the investigation. Honestly, I wasn't expecting another book in this series after how the last one ended. Especially with Evan's sister Libby saying she was going into private investigation work, not Holly.
This time a woman is found outside the business she was previously caught trying to steal from. Holly kind of backs off from sleuthing when someone health concerns come up for her. It doesn't stop her completely though.
I loved traveling back to Mistletoe, Maine for another Christmas Tree Farm Mystery! In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the town is always packed with visitors and it’s the same at the farm. Folks from all over come for the Reindeer Games and yummy food and drinks, and if I could jump into the book, I’d be spending my time there too!
Now that Holly and Evan are married, Cookie has taken over as the inn’s manager. She lives in Holly’s old place at the inn, and her goats live in luxury in the barn on site. Cookie is always the life of the party, but she was a little sad this time around. Then a new character shows up, and she perks up. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens there. It’s always like visiting old friends with this series, and it was no different with this book.
When the murder happens, Holly’s under strict orders to stay out of it because of the bundle of joy she’s now carrying…and her blood pressure is already a little high. She does her best to stay out of it. Her mom, dad, and friends make sure she gets her rest and keeps out of trouble. I love how you can just feel the warmth shared by these characters. Of course, Holly does get a little bit mixed up in the crime solving, but don’t worry, her friends and family always have her back.
I’m really glad that this series is continuing, and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I love love love this series! Every book just gets better and better! And this one is no exception! When I am feeling really down there is no better series to go back and read than this one. Holly's hijinks with Evan, Libby, Carolyn, Cookie, and her wonderful parents keep me riveted to these stories. I wish this family actually existed.
I love all of the different mysteries, and this one was exceptionally well done. It really wasn't until the end that I figured out who the murderer was and by then it was almost too late! The inclusion of the Antiques Roadshow was delightful and something I remember fondly over the years, occasionally watching just to see what kind of goodies people brought to be evaluated. I love that that same feeling of nostalgia was written into this story.
There were so many different angles and suspects it was hard to know who to keep watching! However, I love the chase. It's what keeps me reading cozies and this one is just a great example of what a really great cozy should be like. I really hope this series continues on for a great many years. Love love love this series!
Thanks to Net Galley, the publishers, and to Jacqueline Frost for the ability to read and review this book. All opinions are my own and are completely honest.
I've officially fallen out of like with this series. This was not a mystery, unless the mystery was how the FMC copes with being pregnant. The story centered around her pregnancy, which at first was lovely, but then it was just about what she wasn't allowed to eat or do while she continued to ignore this and faint all over the place. Then she's credited by the town and their friends with solving the mystery when it felt like to me she just stumbled upon it and her husband had to save her and HE knew who the killer was for quite some time. The ending was over the top cheesy and I think I hated everything. It also bothered me that no one asks her if it's okay that they tell EVERYONE about her pregnancy when it's still so early. This installment just felt so out of touch.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book had all the ingredients I've come to expect from this series. The quirky characters, the festive holiday season, and a mystery that Holly always ends up a part of. This time the mystery part wasn't quite as interesting as I would have liked, but the events in the characters' personal lives made up for it. I'm hoping this isn't the end of the series, but if it is I'm happy with the way things wrapped up
This series is always a preorder for me. Frost continues to deliver such amusing characters and suspense that each book turns into my new favorite of the series. I would love to live in Mistletoe and have Holly as a friend. I’m always rooting for her and her crew and hope another book shares their next adventure. Thank you NetGalley for the free review copy!
Innkeeper Holly White has a lot to be joyful about this season, until an attempted robbery throws the town into suspicion in the sixth installment of the Christmas Tree Farm mysteries from bestselling author Jacqueline Frost.

Where to start? So this is my opinion.
I love the cover, I love the concept. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I'd hoped. I appreciate Netgalley, Crooked Lane Books, and Jacqueline Frost for gifting me the book to read. I would never have requested if I'd realised that this was part of a series as it mentioned not much, but history, which was clearly from the other books, so I got a bit lost. Although the FMC is portrait as a kind, thoughtful, compassionate person, I just found the way she went on irritating, she seemed to enjoy putting herself in danger and when her husband made sure she stayed out of things the book was stale with filling. Filling that doesn't need to be there. it was just dragged out. Yeah, that's probably the best way to sum up the book. It was dragged out.
A Wonderful Christmas Crime is the sixth installment in the Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series by Jacqueline Frost. Although I haven’t read the previous books, this one can be enjoyed as a standalone, and I picked it up as a festive way to kick off my Christmas in July reading.
Unfortunately, this book didn’t quite work for me. While I was hoping for a cozy Christmas mystery, much of the plot centered on the main character discovering and processing her pregnancy. This storyline dominated the book to the point that it overshadowed both the mystery and character development. It often felt like the pregnancy was a bigger obstacle to the investigation than the actual crime.
There is a murder to solve, but the narrative repeatedly returns to how the pregnancy complicates things—so much so that it distracted from the core mystery. For readers less sensitive to this theme, it may still be an enjoyable read, especially if you're already invested in the series or the main character.
That said, I do wish the book had included a content note. For readers navigating grief, infertility, or related struggles, the constant focus on pregnancy could be painful or triggering. I personally would have skipped it had I known.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I’m sharing my honest thoughts voluntarily.
A Wonderful Christmas Crime (A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery #6) by Jacqueline Frost Publisher: Crooked Lane Books Genre: Mystery & Thrillers Expected Publication Date: October 21, 2025
Christmas has always been a big, happy deal in Mistletoe, Maine, especially for Holly White and her family at the Reindeer Games Christmas Tree Farm. Now happily married she and husband Sheriff Evan Gray have discovered that this year they have even more to celebrate. Having assured everyone she will take things easy over the festive period, the discovery of yet another dead body in December, and a friend installed as the main suspect, make this a very difficult promise for her to keep. Information can, of course, be gained via the Internet and word of mouth, and, almost without trying, Holly finds herself in possession of useful information and ideas, much to Evan's dismay. As Christmas Day grows ever closer, can she find the vital clues to prevent this year's big day being her last?
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Crooked Lane Books, but the opinions expressed are my own. I loved this. I'm a sucker for a Christmas cosy at any time of year, and this didn't disappoint in any way.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Crooked Lane Books, for letting me read and review an advanced copy of ‘A Wonderful Christmas Crime’, by Jacqueline Frost.
Holly White is once again almost overwhelmed with the activities of Christmas; helping at her parents Christmas tree farm, fulfilling orders for her handmade jewelry, getting together with friends, and doing things with her husband, Evan, the Sheriff in Mistletoe, Maine. When Evan takes her to the doctor they get a new surprise, causing more anxiety along with pure joy.
Unfortunately, there is a pattern of murders in town every Christmas (this is the sixth book in the Christmas Tree Farm Mysteries), and this year is no different. Even with Evan’s warnings, Holly and her friends cannot stay out of the investigation, regardless of how many threats and warnings Holly receives.
These Christmas cozy mysteries are a delight to read. The characters are fun and the storyline is engaging. I can’t wait for the next chapter in Holly and Evan’s life, even though I will have to wait another year.
“ As Christmas descends on Mistletoe, Maine, Holly White has an extra gift for the season: a new baby on the way. Perfect addition to a great series!! The puzzles and crime and who done it in this one is the best yet. I had no idea what was connected until the end which I love. The ending was amazing and even brought a tear to my eyes. Can’t wait for the next one and would highly recommend this book and this whole series to anyone.
This cozy mystery nails the holiday vibe with a snowy small-town setting and twinkling Christmas charm. The main character’s wit and grit kept me hooked as they unraveled a gripping crime. The plot twists were surprising, making it hard to put down! It’s the perfect blend of festive warmth and suspense for a winter read. Highly recommend!
Holly and Evan have a lot to be thankful for this Christmas! But, as usual, the yearly Christmas murder threatens to cut their joy short. Because, for the past several years, Mistletoe Maine has been host to one murder… every year at Christmas! 😳 And of course, Holly has to be front and center every year.
This time, Evan surprises her with tickets to the famed town Holiday Dinner! While there, she witnesses her friend get into a scuffle with another woman. Hours later, that woman is dead, and her friend is hurt and being charged with the murder!!
So, Holly has to find out WHO ACTUALLY did this in order to prove that her friend is innocent!!
Additionally, she keeps getting threats on her life… every day.
So as Holly tries to figure this out, she also needs to be careful with her own life!
Love the small town vibes! Absolutely loved the camaraderie! It’s wonderful to see how they all pitch in to help each other, and build each other up!! If only we could find more of that in the world today… it would be a much better place!! 🩷🩷

A Wonderful Christmas Crime is the 6th book in the Christmas Tree Farm cozy mystery series. I love cozy mysteries, and Christmas stories, so this is a perfect mix. Holly is running the inn at the Christmas Tree Farm, and is excited that she has just found out that she is expecting a baby. Her husband, Sheriff Evan Gray and his sister Libby, have been worried about her elevated blood pressure, and Holly has agreed to take this year easy. As a surprise Evan buys her a ticket to the town's progressive holiday dinner. While at the first stop, a thief tries to steal an antique statue, but escapes after being confronted. After the dinner, Holly goes to check on her friend and sees a lifeless body in the snow. Alice is covered in blood and the thief is dead. Did Alice kill the victim or did she find her and try to help? Holly is sure that Alice would never kill anyone. Was it someone involved in the antique show?
This was a great story that introduces the reader to Swedish customs, in particular, The Yule Goat and the statues as well. All the regulars are back, and I was happy to see that. I love Cookie, and she now possibly will have a love interest with Alice's relative, Hugo, arriving from Sweden to support her. The addition of the antique show also gave the story another sideline. With news from various couples the personal stories were wonderful. The mystery was well written with several twists and suspects. Of course, I thought I had it all figured out, but was wrong once again. Although Holly has been warned to take it easy, she still ends up in a sticky situation facing down the killer. Overall, this was another great addition to this series. Allyson Ryan narrates this audiobook and I enjoyed her performance.
