Seit Emma mit ihren Eltern und ihrem Bruder ein altes, zum Verkauf stehendes Haus besichtigt und dort auf dem Dachboden etwas unheimliches erlebt hat, ereignen sich immer mehr gruselige Vorfälle. Alles deutet darauf hin, dass in der Nacht etwas furchtbares geschehen wird. Gemeinsam mit ihrer Freundin Julia will Emma herausfinden was - und weckt damit den Geist von etwas, das es auf sie abgesehen hat. Diese Geistergeschichte bietet einen ganz besonderen Plot-Twist, und was anfangs noch als milder Schauder abgetan werden kann, entwickelt sich im Laufe des Buches zu einer unglaublich spannenden Geschichte mit einer geballten Ladung Action, in der Emma um ihr Leben kämpfen muss. Gekonnt steigert der Autor dabei die unheimliche Spannung immer weiter und flicht mittels kleiner und witziger Alltagsmomente kurze Atempausen ein. Das große Finale schließlich hat mich dermaßen gefesselt, dass ich es in einem Rutsch durchlesen musste, auch wenn es schon recht spät war und der Wecker am nächsten Morgen wieder unbarmherzig klingeln würde. Das endgültige Ende hat für mich dann auch perfekt gepasst, schließlich ist dies eine Geistergeschichte, und da sollte der Grusel auch nach dem Lesen des Buches noch nachhallen. Toll fand ich, wie authentisch die dicke Freundschaft zwischen Emma und Julia beschrieben wurde, die letztlich auch ein wichtiger Bestandteil im Kampf gegen das Böse war, dem sich die beiden Seite an Seite entgegenstellen. Grundsätzlich habe ich Emma allerdings ein paar Jahre jünger geschätzt und denke zudem, dass auch schon jüngere Gruselfans einen Blick in das Buch riskieren und ihre Freude daran haben dürften. Als Einstieg in eine neue Reihe von unheimlichen Geschichten, die im titelgebenden Blackfield angesiedelt sein werden, hat "Geister" einen stabilen Grundstein gelegt, und anhand kleiner Details hat man bereits einen ersten Einblick in das doch nicht ganz so idyllische Städtchen bekommen. Ich jedenfalls freue mich schon auf die nächste unheimliche Begegnung in Blackfield!

This book was a delightful and unexpected surprise—it delivered exactly the atmosphere and thrill I was hoping to find in House of Dark Shadows.
The author nails the horror aspect (with it being very well-crafted to weave into the rest of the plot). The spooky bits are genuinely effective and chilling. My favorite moment, the second visit to the attic, was particularly unsettling and well-executed. Additionally, the action sequences were exciting and kept me engaged throughout.
While the story is excellent, my only minor note is that I would have loved to see a bit more depth and screentime for the main female character and her little brother, David. It's a negligible point, though, and didn't detract significantly from my overall enjoyment.

Noch letzte Nacht bis viertel vor 2 in einem Rutsch durchgelesen ✨️.
Es versprach, für Fans von Fear Street das Richtige zu sein. Das war tatsächlich Kauf-Hauptgrund, da ich selbst früher Fear Street unglaublich gern gelesen habe. All meine Fear Street und Gänsehaut-Bücher besitze ich bis heute. So weit ich weiß, sind das alle jemals auf deutsch erschienenen Geschichten; sowie ein paar von mir ausgesuchte noch auf englisch dazu.
Und "Blackfield - Geister" hat sich wirklich ein bisschen wie "nach hause kommen" angefühlt, so wie bei Fear Street, Gänsehaut und co.
Fand ich soo gut!!
Das Ende, vor allem eben den Epilog/Prolog fand ich ein ganz bisschen vorhersehbar bzw ich habe sogar gehofft, dass es so endet.
Aber es ist eben auch nicht mein 1. Buch aus dem Genre und auch nicht mein 10.
Wenn ich mir jetzt vorstelle, ich wäre wieder so 14-17 und würde eben u.a. Fear Street lesen...
Dieses Buch würde sich, meiner Meinung nach, dort richtig gut mit einreihen.
Ich freue mich bereits auch sehr auf Band 2! ☺️

This story pulled me in right from the very beginning. It was the perfect amount of spooky and eerie and I always love a good haunted house story.
When Emma and her parents check out a house for sale, Emma’s curiosity takes over as she wanders up to the attic of the house. She comes across a picture of a creepy looking girl, only to find that the picture moves and a single tear drop falls from the girls face.
From that point on, weird and unexplainable things started happening, including her best friend, Julia, being possessed momentarily by something sinister in that house.
While Emma’s parents are away at a wedding, her and Julia discover a man in her brother’s room who kidnaps her brother and takes him back to the creepy house. The only thing left for Emma and Julia to do is to face the evil ghost lurking in that house in order to get her brother back.
What happens in the house was truly terrifying and although this is a young adult horror story, I thought this was quite spooky and was not lacking at all on the horror elements. This story will have you on the edge of your seat and the surprise twist at the end was unexpected.
If you love ghosts, horror and haunted houses, I highly recommend giving this book a read. I’m so excited to see what happens next in Blackfield.

Mit "Blackfield - Geister" beginnt die Reise der "Blackfield"-Reihe von P. J. Prince. Es zeigt uns wieder einmal, dass Young-Adult-Horrorbücher oder Jugend-Horrorbücher den "Erwachsenen"-Horrorbüchern noch eine Menge lehren können.😁
Erst einmal aber zur Geschichte:
Emma und ihr Bruder Dave besichtigen mit ihren Eltern zusammen ein neues Haus. Auf dem Dachboden findet sie das Gemälde eines Mädchens, das ihr nicht ganz geheuer ist.
Der Schreibstil des Autors ist wirklich bombastisch. Eine einfache Schreibweise und kurze Kapitel, genau mein Geschmack. Dazu kann man sich perfekt in Blackfield und seine Straßen hineinversetzen, als ob man die Stadt selbst besichtigt.
Die jugendlichen Protagonisten sind authentisch und super beschrieben, auch mit dem ein oder anderen sarkastischen Spruch auf den Lippen. Das lockert die ganze Geschichte etwas auf, was dem Lesefluss nochmals sehr gut tut.😊
Die Geschichte selbst ist düster und spannend dargestellt. Es ist eine sehr schöne Geister- oder Gruselgeschichte für Jung und Alt.😁 Wie gesagt, von so manchen Jugend-Gruselbüchern können sich andere Geistergeschichten eine Scheibe abschneiden.😁
Ich gebe ganz klar eine Leseempfehlung.😁

Book Review
This was such a fun, creepy YA horror read and exactly the kind of spooky story I love when I want something fast, eerie, and bingeable. The real star of this book for me wasn't even the house itself, but the attic. You won't catch me exploring an attic of an old abandoned house lol.
From the moment it's introduced, you just know something is wrong up there. It has that claustrophobic, dusty, forgotten about energy where every sound feels suspicious and every shadow feels like it's watching you. The tension really ramps up whenever the story shifts back to that space, and I found myself holding my breath through a few scenes.
The pacing is quick, the chapters fly by, and it keeps you guessing with some fun twists along the way. It has all the classic haunted horror vibes, creepy and unsettling.
Overall, this is a great pick if you're in the mood for a quick YA horror with eerie atmosphere, creepy secrets, and an attic you'll never look at the same way again. Definitely a fun, spooky read.

This gave all the haunted house vibes you could wish for mixed with some great, dark humour between Emma and Julia. I felt like I wanted to scream “NO!!” at the girls every two seconds.
Eerie, creepy and obscenely brilliant for a debut. Intense and atmospheric, this short read is jaw dropping and will leave you begging for more! Filled with uncertainties and dread, the tension is palpable, very cleverly written.
The elements of a comedic spoof in here, that will make you roll your eyes but you’ll keep reading anyway! Dark enough for YA, but don’t read if you’re scared of the dark, or the attic, or ghosts!
Cannot wait for the next instalment of the Blackfield Stories. A massive thank you to Peter for allowing and trusting me to read and review his debut.

Are you a fan of haunting and mysterious novellas sprinkled with humour and sarcasm? Then this is the book for you!
Although this is YA, Prince does an outstanding job of creating a sense of unsettling dread through an intellectual narration that doesn’t give up. Racking in at just under 200 pages, this is the perfect snack-sized horror that featured everything I wanted – creepy kids, possession, and a dirty old attic that no one should be stepping foot in – Emma, what is wrong with you?!
At the heart of this is a heartwarming friendship between Emma and Julia, showing their love for each other through dark humour and sarcasm, which I love to see. The two girls go to every length they can to protect one another, portraying them more as sisters than best friends.
Now, that ending… Prince, what are you doing to me? When I say my jaw was on the floor, I was tripping over it! I cannot wait to read more of the Blackfield Stories series – roll on Esurio next year!

This was such a fun and creepy read! I loved it and can’t wait to read more from P.J. Prince. This story is a perfect introduction into horror, for children and adults alike! I absolutely loved Emma as a character. She is sassy, sarcastic, kind, and determined. The humor in this story (particularly from Emma) had me laughing out loud.
“Blackfield Stories - Ghosts” is the first book in a series of stand-alone stories! Much like the beloved Goosebumps we read in our youth. I can’t help but think about little Carissa and how much she would have loved this, but I think that goes to show how enjoyable this was to read, even as an adult, since now-Carissa loved it too. 😊

This was a cute book, but I feel like we could have had more details about what was going on. I liked the confusion of the protagonists at the beginning and how quickly they wanted to stop the haunting!

Deliciously creepy
Very well written debut:-) I was hooked from page 1. Creepy and scary without gore I tend to dislike in horror. I'll look for more books by P.J. Thank you Goodreads, the author, and publisher for my free print copy!

Not a bad read, I just wish it was a bit longer! I enjoyed it more as it got towards the end, the final chapter was tense! Didn’t expect that little twist at the end too! A huge thank you to the author for the advanced copy, all opinions are my own.
