Songbird (The Harmony Series Book 1): An enemies-to-lovers, dystopian romance novel

Rate this book
There’s only three things I know to be true. First, the Corporation can’t be trusted. Second, after they took my parents from me, I’ll stop at nothing to take everything from them. And third, falling in love with the man who’s hunting me is completely out of the question.

The city isn’t what it used to be but neither is the world we live in. Harmony used to be a beacon of hope. A place for people to go find prosperity and a better life. It’s never been the same since The Corporation took over after the Night War. But neither have I. Not since my parents were taken from me—murdered in cold blood. I’ve been on the run ever since. Moving from one place to another simply trying to survive.

Until now.

Now, people quiver in fear when they hear my name. They look around, searching for me in the dark while praying they’ll be saved. When I come for you though, your life has already ended. And with the help of my friends, we won’t stop until we bring the Corporation to its knees.

• • •

She’s nothing more of a whisper in the night around the city. Untraceable, untrackable. No one seems to know what she looks like but everyone knows who she is.

Songbird.

As the lead detective on her case, it’s up to me to uphold the values of the Corporation and do my duty of bringing the city’s most dangerous criminal to justice. In her wake she leaves nothing but lifeless corpses and a spray painted insignia on the wall. Until one night, she doesn’t. A small note taped to a phone left behind on her latest victim. But why him? And why now?

And what does it mean for the future of Harmony?

Songbird is an enemies-to-lovers, age-gap, dystopian romance story and the first book in the Harmony Series. Set in a world hundreds of years in the future, Songbird will have you rooting for morally gray women who are willing to do anything to save the city they love and swooning over this cat and mouse romance story. The Harmony Series are interconnected stories and it is encouraged and recommended that you read these books in order.

arc review

I knew I’d love it, I know I’d never feel disappointed by a book written by Rebecca, and I love being right.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 🌶️🌶️ (yes 6⭐️, it’s not a typo)

First off, the plot. Oh my god. As a mostly (100%) romance reader, the dystopian plot is what truly had me hooked from the very beginning. The dystopian plot is what had me by the neck, itching for more, unable to put my phone down willingly, and picking it up every second I possibly could. Not to say the romance wasn’t good because when that kickstarted, the only times I put the book down was when I physically couldn’t keep my eyes open from exhaustion.

Now the world building, chef’s kiss, fucking immaculate. I love the way it was written and the way it was incorporated in the book. I felt like I was being shown the history and the aftermath of the events that led to what Harmony is currently. The different ways it was spread out throughout the book really made me feel like I was in that time and place. The showing without the narrating characters going on and on about descriptions and a history lesson really made the world building more interesting and immersive?

Dual POV is what I always prefer in fiction, but I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated it as much as I have reading Songbird’s and Shaw’s. Both being on opposite sides of the law, one being a vigilante (Songbird) and the other being a detective (Shaw), in a city/world of corruption, I loved being in both of their heads and seeing how differently they viewed everything despite having the same goal.

My girl Songbird, a badass vigilante, fighting for the city and its people. She has a big, and hardened, heart. She’s fierce and strong, and oh so caring. Need I say more, we love a badass FMC.

Two things Rebecca never, and I do mean never, fails to do with her books is deliver an obsessed MMC and found family. Along with the Nat. 20 family, Songbird and her crew have permanently found themselves a nice cozy corner in my heart. And Shaw? Heh, that man is not only obsessed but he knows it, and he shows it.

Overall, I can only describe this book as perfection to me, an amazing start to one of my new favourite series. Rebecca and S. L. did incredibly well with this book. No notes, no complaints, just wonderful. And I literally cannot wait for Trickshot. Waiting until Fall is going to be torture, but I’m so ready for her book!

Thank you so so much to both Rebecca and S. L. Wrights for this arc!!

4.5 ⭐️ This book was really good! I have been in the worst reading slump ever and it has taken me so long to finish this book but that has nothing to do with the book itself and all with me. This book had me hooked and I wanted to read more from the start. I can’t wait for the next one!

Thank you Rebecca & S.L. Wrights for an ARC copy of Songbird.

"Head up, eyes open, and always fight the good fight. Give'em hell, Little Bird."

Dystopian story lines are not generally my first choice but this book has officially converted me, it had me hooked from the beginning. From the way you took inspiration from things happening around the world today. The feelings of the characters in this unjust world they live in, from our villains 'The Corporation' the government who were here to help grow and prosper but are actually transforming the city from a place of freedom and equality to a city rooted with control and oppression. To our morally gray team with Songbird trying to correct the corruption within Harmony.

We have our Detective Oliver who is on the hunt for Songbird but along the way of their cat and mouse game the tension builds and he finds out 'The Corporation' is not what it seems and our vigilante is not who he originally believed.

Another amazing book from Rebecca Wrights and I love how her husband co-wrote this amazing story together. I can't wait to see where this series goes.

ARC REVIEW 😏

Hey it’s been a minute since i’ve talked to you guys but what i’m about to share with you is my new favorite book/series. Okay, it’s absolutely no secret how much i loveeee Rebecca’s books and I will read anything she releases, but guys you aren’t ready for this one!! Not gonna lie, I have not read a dystopian book since I read The Maze Runner series so it’s been a hot minute but this book made me remember how much I love a dystopian story.

Songbird and Oliver are quite literally the best slow burn, enemies to lovers I have read in a long time, the killer he’s been tracking for so long leaving him notes, meeting face to masked face 😉. I don’t want to spoil anything but just know you will be giggling, gasping, and crying, my jaw was on the floor for a minute at one scene and when you get there you’ll know 😏

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lugnut is the builder of our group.  Firewall is our walking computer virus.  Trickshot is cute but deadly.  And then there’s me, the leader. Fighting the good fight, just like my parents always taught me to.

For a guy who has been a detective for so long, he didn’t ask very many questions. I expected to be harassed and berated but instead all I got was a mild hand slapping. It was kind of exciting when he pulled his gun on me. How cute of him to think he’d be able to get the jump on me so easily.

Songbird leers from beside me. The way she narrows her eyes at me and tips her chair back nonchalantly makes me want to tip it over so she falls to the ground.

“Listen to me, wicked, no more pushing buttons unless they’re mine. Got it?” The hand he has around my wrist tightens and I wonder if he can feel my heart quicken at his words.  “Sir, yes, sir,” I mutter with a hint of humor in my voice.  “Smartass,” he hisses. “So, how do you think we get to the other side?”

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Songbird, and let me just say I have never felt more smug about my good fortune. Because this book? Uncomfortably relevant. Like, “Are we sure this isn’t a documentary?” relevant. It’s very much right story, right time, and I’ve been staring at my screen for days trying to figure out how to review it without just screaming.

Let’s start with the plot.
The dystopian storyline had me in a chokehold. I was feral. Phone glued to my hand. Opening the app every spare second like it personally owed me answers. The romance? Solid. Genuinely good. But it’s been a while since I’ve read a dystopian that actually dystopians properly, so forgive me if I was especially rabid about that part.
And the worldbuilding? Disgustingly good. The kind where you don’t get lectured at for five pages straight about history and politics, yet somehow you understand everything. The rise, the fallout, the rot underneath Harmony... it all unfolds naturally, layered in a way that makes you feel like you’re living inside it instead of being talked at. Immersive without being exhausting. We love to see it.

Now, the characters.
I am, unfortunately (or fortunately?), a connoisseur of female rage. And this book delivered. Songbird as a vigilante taking on “The Corporation” (the entity slowly suffocating Harmony while everyone else pretends not to see it) was exactly my flavour of chaos. You root for her. You ache with her. You want her to burn it all down just a little bit. The villains? Despicable in the way villains should be. No confusion about who deserves your side-eye.
Also. I need Trickshot and Lugnut immediately. This is not a want. This is a demand. The tension, the mystery around The Corporation, the breadcrumbs being dropped? I am seated for whatever comes next. Trickshot’s book cannot come fast enough.

In short: gripping, timely, and painfully addictive. Read at your own risk — you will neglect responsibilities.

I was lucky enough to get an early ARC of Songbird by Rebecca Wrights

I was absolutely blown away by Songbird. This dystopian romance had me hooked from the very first page, and I finished it in less than 24 hours. I truly couldn’t put it down!

The characters are incredible. You can’t help but love the main characters and fully hate the villains (the way it should be). Songbird is a vigilante fighting against “The Corporation,” a government destroying Harmony while so many turn their backs on the truth she refuses to ignore. Raised to “always fight the good fight,” she lives by those words in the most powerful way. She holds her own and loves the game of cat and mouse with Detective Oliver. The tension that builds between them as you continue to read, is so steamy and will have you blushing. ☺️

The FMCs are morally grey, bad@ss, and completely kickal@ss—and I am HERE for it! Every one of them brings something unique and unforgettable to the story.

Rebecca Wrights is an amazing author, and this book proves it. I’m not surprised at all by how incredible this story turned out. If you love dystopian romance with strong characters and nonstop tension, this one is a must-read.

4⭐️/ 2-3🌶️

*Thank you to Rebecca Wrights for providing me with an ARC of this book, greatly appreciate it.

This book essentially had badass women kicking butt, a mix mash of people working together, a detective set on hunting down sad vigilante, and an interesting romance building throughout the story. Rebecca and her husband, S.L. Wrights did a good job writing this first book. This story introduced, Songbird, our FMC, and Oliver Shaw, our MMC. Two people on different sides playing a sort of cat and mouse game as they tried to figure out the real danger that was harming the city of Harmony. With Songbird and her crew of misfits, they were determined to restore Harmony to the city it once was. This story had action, found family, lovable characters, strong FMC’s, somewhat enemies to lovers, and great tension too.

For this being the first book, I think it was a nice set up especially for the future books. With the way this book ended, it’s clear that Songbird, Shaw, and their group aren’t finished with their mission. If anything, I got the sense that there will be an even bigger threat headed their way, but who knows exactly what or who it will be.

From what I read in this book, I liked the characters, and loved their connections with one another. Before Oliver Shaw came into Songbird’s view, it was just her, Trickshot, Lugnut, and Firewall. The found family in this book was good, and I really adored the scenes in which I got to see everyone together. Even in the midst of what was happening, there were moments I could see the different dynamics between the characters. For instance, Trickshot and Lugnut, GIRL! I could feel the tension and yearning between those two! If anything, I wanted more of Trickshot and Lugnut because those two together were an instant favorite for me!!! Safe to say aside from learning more about what Songbird and the rest of the crew will be faced against, I’m even more excited to see more of Trickshot and Lugnut!!

Songbird and Shaw were an interesting couple from starting off as enemies to working together, and discovering a shared connection between them. From the start, Songbird and Shaw were initially on different sides of what they were fighting for, but unbeknownst to Shaw, he didn’t realize the corruption around him. Shaw and Songbird had different ways of helping Harmony. For Songbird, infiltrating, killing, torturing information out of someone, and doing whatever she could to save the city from evil was her way of doing things. For Shaw, he saw Songbird as a serial killer who needed to be brought to justice for killing innocents, but that wasn’t the case. Seeing Shaw come to terms with the people who were actually causing harm and destruction in Harmony was an eye opening moment for him, and that gave him a different perspective on how Songbird and her friends were actually doing the work to try to take down the Corporation.

With this being the first book, this is only the beginning of what Songbird, Shaw, Trickshot, Lugnut, and Firewall will be up against. The idea of a group of individuals trying to control a city and dismantling the hope and freedom honestly mirrors some of what is going on in real life. While it was written in a way to fit the narrative of what the characters go through in this story, I could see what Rebecca meant when she mentioned the parallels readers would see while reading this story. I’m more curious to see how the next book(s) will be, and see how Rebecca writes the stories in a way that digs deeper into the overarching plot.

Overall, this was a good first book and I’m really interested to see how the next book will be. My favorite part about this book was the characters! Songbird, Shaw, Trickshot, Lugnut, and Firewall were all so uniquely talented and unique from each other that they made me adore them for their own strengths, and loyalty to one another. Even though Shaw was an outsider to the group at the beginning, he gradually found his own space, and became part of the family. Again, I’m really looking forward to Trickshot’s book so, I’ll be patiently waiting in the meantime, and reminiscing on all the ways the FMC’s in this book are total baddies, and I wanna be like them!

my lord... i need therapy... this was an emotional roller coaster for me. if i could give this 10 stars, i would.

this right here is the next best dystopian, Rebecca and S.L Wrights did such an amazing job, it's now one of my favorite dystopian books right next to The Hunger Games. it had everything that you would find in any good dystopian book. the world building was amazing and the characters felt so relatable. honestly, i had to get my kindle snatched out of my hands MULTIPLE times because i "needed" a break from it and i "needed" to sleep before going to my lectures, because i just wouldn't stop reading.

Songbird
Songbird is truly one of the most morally grey fmcs i've read about in a long time and didn't feel like she was trying too hard to be morally grey (if that even makes sense, i don't know). it was very clear from the beginning that she'd bend what little morals she had left if it meant getting a step closer to accomplishing her goal.

i enjoyed the fact that Songbird is on the taller end of the scale at almost 6ft, i feel like there's not a lot of rep for tall girls (so thank you for that). despite everything she's been through she still manages to keep that lightheartedness to her and embodies the hope of those that came before her. reading her interactions with her crew also brought that sense of comfort/relatability to the story--especially when they were bickering--it helped us see different sides of her, like how motherly she is with Firewall even though Songbird might not be THAT much older. aside from what she stands for, the way she is with the people she loves truly captured my heart and she will forever be one of my favorite characters.

Shaw
Our good--and handsome-- detective, is a great representation for people that believe that because they're told something by someone in power then it must be true. Until he started to see things others didn't, and began to question what others wouldn't when he was assigned to capture Songbird. He wants what's right for the people just as much as she does, but doesn't necessarily agree with her methods.

now while Songbird might be tall, he's still taller (BONUS: he's also older) i love tall women being with tall men, it just hits right. just like Songbird, Shaw has had to deal with his fair share of traumatic experiences, but he didn't let any of that change him as a person. the interactions between his mother and him will haunt me forever, they were so heart warming and let us see a softer side to him, we love a family oriented man over here.

Thoughts
-the pacing in this book was absolutely perfect, the romance wasn't rushed and neither was their journey towards their goal. we got to see exactly when the enemies started to blur into lovers and just how satisfying each small victory was
-reading how Songbird stood by her believes from beginning to end was everything for me, because she knew the truth and she stood by what she knew was right, even though it was putting her life in danger. on the other hand, reading Shaw's internal struggle on what to believe was really important, he grew up believing that the government (The Corporation) really did have the people's best interest at heart until he started to doubt it
-the character growth was really interesting as well, especially Shaw's
-the parallels to our world and what’s going on right now are my favorites

Harmony was once a beacon of hope, but now it's ruled by the ruthless Corporation. Ever since they murdered her parents, the untraceable assassin known as Songbird has been leaving a trail of bodies to bring them to their knees. But when the lead detective tasked with hunting her gets too close, their deadly game of cat and mouse ignites a spark neither expected. Falling for the enemy is a terrible idea, especially when one wrong move could cost them the future of the city.

This was part of my Indecent Book Club subscription, and it was another absolutely amazing book! I have flown through this book so fast. Despite barely having time to read, I’ve been on super speed reading mode. It is addictive, hard to put down, high stakes, hot as hell, and just yeah, a brilliant read.

The book is dual POV with Songbird, the broken but badass FMC with a secret past and a lethal right hook, and Shaw, the lead detective who has been tasked with hunting her down. They both are carrying their own baggage and their own views on the world, and they are both absolutely determined to see it through. So which one of them will win?

The dedication of the book absolutely puts you in a place of questioning everything you see. It makes it impossible not to make comparisons with the world we live in, adding so much emotion and strength to this story. This may be a dystopian world, but it doesn’t feel that far away from what our world could become.

The story unfolds as Songbird and her merry found family of misfits are fighting their way through the criminal underbelly and some of the hidden “pillars of society.” Unfortunately, this gains them the notice of the evil overlord corporation. Oliver Shaw is the hot shot lead detective with a flawless record trying find this mysterious killer and bring them to justice. But the more he finds out, and the more clues and tips he comes across, the more he begins to question just what is true.

This book is high adrenaline, with life-or-death situations being an everyday occurrence, whilst also holding space for the emotions, mental health, and reality for our characters with their complex traumas and real day-to-day lives. It is also hot as hell, with the chemistry being so, so damned sizzling you will be hard-pressed not to drool. Also, chapter 28. Yeah, chapter 28.

Serving up dystopian nightmares, badass women, found family, and spicy chemistry with an enemies-to-lovers foundation, this book is absolutely a must-read. I cannot wait for more from this author.

ARC Review ✨
First I would like to say a big thank you to Rebecca for letting me be apart of this ARC Team!
Rate: 5/5⭐️
Spice: between a 1.5 and 2/5🌶️

What to expect when reading Songbird;
-Enemies x Lovers
-Age Gap
-Morally Gray FMC
-Dystopian
-Vigilante x Detective

This is book one of the Harmony series! You get to follow Songbird and Shaw! Corruption. Blindness. Isolation. Power holders. The Corporation thrives on those things. Songbirds mission is to restore Harmony to the way it was before The Corporation took over. She’s doing so one bad guy at a time, along with her crew having her back. Detective Shaw has one mission and that is to get Songbird, dead or alive. What happens when Shaw’s eyes are opened and the enemies aren’t exactly who he thought they were. I’m going to try and review this without giving too much away. To start off I’m going to let you know how good I thought this book was I highlighted 123 things…. I don’t think I have ever done that before lol I went into this book with an open mind because it isn’t something I normally gravitate towards, but I am so glad that I did. While I was reading it truly felt like I was watching a movie inside my head of everything that was going on. Songbird is such a badass character, I honestly want to be her when I grow up. The chemistry between her and Shaw had me flustered at times. While even though there were spicy scenes between them it didn’t take away from the overall plot, which in itself I felt in my bones.

Rebecca and her Husband hit the mark when it came to creating each character and their individual personalities. I also want to praise them because even thought this is a dystopian, certain topics hit home. Don’t turn a blind eye just because something doesn’t affect you directly. I wish I could send all the high praises to them for this story. I also will be recommending it to anyone and everyone.

Side notes:
-the dedication…..wow
-Gertie= amazing
-How she met Trickshot
-Firewall = someone i just want to squeeze

Thank you so much Rebecca Wrights for sending me this ARC!

Songbird is the first book in a Dystopian Romance series of interconnected stories and it was everything I hoped it would be and more, I loved Songbird’s and Oliver’s story!

After witnessing her parents’ murder for taking part in a rebellion when she was a child, Songbird continues their mission by helping the people abandoned by government and killing the bad and corrupted ones in charge with her friends. When Oliver, a detective, is tasked with capturing her, she decides to try to get him on their side, but playing cat and mouse game while trying to save their city is harder than they expected, especially with their growing feelings.

I’ve been so excited to read Songbird ever since I first saw it on the author’s Instagram and have been (im)patiently waiting and it was absolutely incredible, the author exceeded my already high expectations and I loved this story. Rebecca created a truly interesting world and its history that I loved learning about and with some elements provoking thought and the plot was perfectly paced, full of action and some twists but also getting to know the characters and amazing dynamics between them all. Songbird was absolutely incredible as the FMC, morally grey vigilante with a tragic past trying to save the city, my heart was breaking for her at times but she was really strong and clever and I loved her from page one. I thought there world be more romance and it was mostly in the second half of the book, but with everything else going on I think there was a perfect amount of it and I loved every scene we got of them together. Songbird and Oliver were polar opposites but I could see from the beginning how that made them perfect for each other and help them grow, they were true enemies in the beginning and I loved seeing them play the cat and mouse game, the detective x vigilante is one of my favorite tropes and it was written perfectly here, I loved these two together so much and can’t wait to see them again. I also loved all members of the found family, they were all well written and three dimensional and I cant wait to get to know more about their stories and see what happens next with them.

Songbird is an amazing dystopian romance book and I loved it so much, I recommend it to everyone and can’t wait for next books in this series.

6 freaking ⭐️ Thank you to the authors for an advanced copy of Songbird to read and review! I feel so honored to be able to read an early copy of this book! This is my first book by the authors and I am BLOWN AWAY.

Songbird is a dystopian romance. It’s a mix of V for Vendetta and The Hunger Games (and go ahead and throw in United States 2026).
The parallels between our current country and world climate and the world of Harmony are eerily similar.
This book really makes you think about current events and how close we are to becoming Harmony.

Songbird and Oliver with their detective x vigilante dynamic really keeps you engaged in their story. The cat and mouse game they’re playing is intense and when it gets steamy, it gets STEAMY. They were enemies. She was fighting for justice in a city brought to its knees by an oppressive regime. His job was to bring her in dead or alive. They fell for each other. Hard. And it was sexy as fuck. I loved Oliver and Songbird in the beginning, but by the end, they had me in a chokehold!
The history and world building is so incredibly detailed, it makes you feel like you’re actually IN Harmony. You will completely fall in love with the side characters. And you will hate, with every fiber of your being, the villains.
Songbird and her band of vigilantes are continuing a fight that others started long ago, to bring down The Corporation and make the city of Harmony and the world a better place.

*That lil twisty twist about 80% in had me in TEARS!!! *

This is going to be an awesome series and I can’t wait for more! I would recommend Songbird to fans of Heartless Hunter, Shatter Me, The Hunger Games (obviously), Legend series, An Ember in the Ashes (but, like, the *not YA versions 😂) … and really anyone who loves books about BADASS women who are fighting the good fight!

As the authors note says, “Fight for what's right, fight for what matters, and never close your eyes to the injustices of the world.” 🙌🏼

And remember, always fight the good fight.

Songbird is the first installment of The Harmony Series and delivers a high stakes romance that masterfully balances the atmospheric tension with the blazing chemistry between our beloved Songbird and the detective. It’s rare to find a read that balances character psychology and worldbuilding as eloquently as the authors have here. Songbird is a gritty exploration of what happens when two completely opposed morals collide in a city festering with corruption.

The heart of this read lies in the tension between its two leading characters. The female protagonist, often operating under the signature "Songbird," is a masterclass in the "broken but lethal" archetype. Her motivations aren't rooted in a simple desire for justice; they are born from a universal downfall of the city she calls home.

Opposite her our leading male character, our good detective. Often in these tropes, the law-abiding man is either a bumbling foil or a secret rebel. Shaw, however, is written with a refreshing level of capability and duty. The "Age Gap" trope is utilized here to provide a stark distinction in their worldviews. Shaw represents the weary strength of the old Harmony, while Songbird represents the desperate, volatile energy of the new generation who still holds out that Harmony can return to its old ways.

My Final Thoughts:

Songbird is an intuitive, emotionally charged journey. It’s a story about finding a voice in a city designed to keep you silent and finding a home in the person you were taught to fear. Songbird is a must-read for fans of dark dystopian settings and "he falls first" energy. It’s a story of healing, retribution, and the realization that sometimes the person you’re hunting is the only one who truly understands you. If you enjoy strong, complex protagonists and brooding detectives, this read will leave you impatiently waiting for the next book in the series.

🌶️🌶️

I have loved all of Rebecca’s books, but this one… sucked me in INSTANLY! Talk about a book digging it’s claws into you, I could not put it down and I CANNOT wait for what’s next. The plot of this book is beyond – it is the best kind of perfection from the world building to the incredibly dynamic characters, to the weaving from the dual POV’s into storyline articles woven in and then the past interviews – it really did take you on the ride with Songbird and Shaw and the history of the story. I loved every second.

One of my favorite things was the opposite’s storyline of the vigilante versus the handsome detective. I loved the playfulness of Songbird’s character and how she loved outsmarting/toying with Shaw almost like a cat with its prey – it was delicious and so well written.

I loved every single thing about Songbird. She was the definition of fierce and filled with grit, but the writing balanced it so perfectly that you saw through it and really saw how intentional and caring she really is at her core. I cannot wait for freaking Trickshot!

Rebecca and SL Wrights absolutely DELIVERED on this delicious dystopian romance; it left me wanting more from the moment it ended and I cannot wait to see what is next for these guys. If there’s one thing we know for sure it’s that Rebecca can write a found family like no other and Songbird was no exception. I have not been this excited about a new series in a while and this one has me in an absolute chokehold. Thank you for writing books I love, I highly recommend this book/series!

Thank you for allowing me to ARC read your incredible books, it is an absolute pleasure! I look forward to what is to come!!

Excuse me, Mrs. (and Mr.) Wright!

This book had no business (it had all the business) being this amazing.

Did I have any idea as to what I was opening when I opened this ebook? No, no, I did not. Do I want to get in a time machine and read this book all over again? Yes, yes, I do.

I do not even know where to start with this review.

1. The found family aspect. Rebecca writes the crap out of this trope. I think my favorite part is just how different they all are from each other (Nat 20, her first series); each member of this family is uniquely different; she shows us that family is made up of all people brought together for a common purpose. I think she is one of the few writers who has such diversity in the found family trope.

2. Harmony. Is this place real (trick question)? But the way that Rebecca builds up Harmony, we could be living in it right now. The imagery she provides is so visceral. She doesn't make it hard to conjure up what this place would look like.

3. Songbird and Shaw. Holy tension, Batman. These two, from their first interaction to their last, had animosity and sexual tension between them that rolled right off the page. Morally Gray FMC, not something you read every day, but Songbird, she has a heart of gold all while waving all the red flags. and Shaw, he was her perfect counterpart.

4. The way that future characters are given time to shine and the setup for the future of this series. Do I want Lugnut and Trickshot? Yes. Do I NEED Firewall? Hell yes! Also, will there be more Leo?

Songbird was the perfect start for this dystopian series that leaves me with more questions than answers.

Thank you Rebecca and S.L. Wright for the ARC

First of all, the plot. WOW. As someone who reads romance almost exclusively (and by almost, I mean completely), I did not expect the dystopian storyline to have me in a chokehold the way it did. From page one, I was hooked — constantly reaching for my phone, desperate to know what would happen next, physically incapable of putting it down. And when the romance started building? The only reason I stopped reading was because exhaustion literally forced me to.
The world-building was flawless. Instead of overwhelming us with info dumps, the history and aftermath of Harmony unfolded naturally, piece by piece. It felt immersive and cinematic — like I was living inside this broken, corrupt city rather than being told about it. The show-don’t-tell execution made everything hit harder, especially knowing how much of the story draws inspiration from real-world issues. The injustice. The control. The slow erosion of freedom. It all felt unsettlingly real.
Harmony is ruled by The Corporation — a government that was meant to bring prosperity and growth but instead represents control and oppression. A city once rooted in freedom now drowning in corruption. And in the middle of it all? A morally gray team determined to fight back.
Dual POV will always have my heart, but experiencing both Songbird and Shaw’s perspectives elevated this story even more. A vigilante and a detective on opposite sides of the law, both chasing justice in their own ways. Watching their cat-and-mouse game unfold while the tension builds was addictive. Seeing how differently they view the same city, the same corruption, the same goal — it added so much depth.
Songbird is an absolute force. Fierce, guarded, strong, and fighting relentlessly for her city and its people. But underneath that hardened exterior is someone who cares deeply, even when the world has given her every reason not to. We love a layered, powerful FMC.
And Shaw? Rebecca truly never misses when it comes to delivering an obsessed MMC. That man is down bad, fully aware of it, and unapologetic in showing it. Add in the found family dynamic with the Nat. 20 crew and Songbird’s team, and my heart was completely claimed.
Dystopian isn’t usually my first choice, but this book officially converted me. It was gripping, emotional, intense, and perfectly balanced between high-stakes plot and consuming romance. Rebecca and S. L. absolutely nailed this collaboration — no notes, no complaints, just pure enjoyment.
This already feels like the start of one of my new favorite series, and I am counting down the days until Trickshot. Waiting until fall is going to feel like torture… but I am so ready.
✨ A vigilante.
✨ A detective.
✨ A corrupt government.
✨ Obsession.
✨ Found family.
✨ A city fighting to breathe.
Consider me ruined in the best way.

We’re BAACCCKKK and I couldn’t be ANYMORE EXCITED! With the start to a new series, Songbird brings Rebecca’s introduction to dystopian romance AND I AM ALL HERE FOR IT!

With a code name like Songbird, you wouldn’t think she is a notorious serial killer, leaving bodies left and right for a local detective to find. But she has her reasons to always fight the good fight and MY GOD SHE IS SUCH A FUCKING BAD ASS WHILE DOING IT! Playing a cat and mouse game with said local detective, Songbird decides that he could be an important part of taking down The Corporation. Detective Shaw doesn’t comprehend what he’s getting himself into when he is able to make contact with Songbird AND WHAT A FUCKING WILD RIDE IT WAS! Through a journey of PLOT TWISTS AND REALISATIONS, and learning what is REALLY going on, Songbird discovers more than she thought possible. I was FUCKING SHOOK with the unravelling of some certain things, and I COULD NOT GET OVER the dynamic between Songbird, Trickshot, Lugnut and Firewall! Not to mention the chemistry between Songbird and Shaw?! Their witty banter and their whole relationship WAS TOO GOOD!

I just have to mention, THIS WAS A MARRIED COUPLE DUO?! I just LOVE the aspect of two people coming together and writing something as AMAZING AS THIS! Also, welcome to the world of writing S.L. Wrights! I see you! With that being said though, I CANNOT CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT for the next book in this series focusing more on Trickshot and hopefully Lugnut (iykyk)!

eARC review - Songbird comes out Feb. 13!

Songbird was such an unexpected read that I could not put down. I found Wrights through her Nat 20 series, which I highly recommend, and I'm so happy to have found a new favorite author.

Songbird has a little bit of everything. Intrigue (check), Romance (check), Badass Babes (check), Hardscrabble Detective (check), Us vs Them (check), Found Family (check), and a new world that needs unexpected heroes (check).

I immediately fell in love with Songbird and her crew of Lugnut, Firewall, and Trickshot; no spoilers, but it is was so inclusive and beautiful. I also can't love Detective Oliver Shaw more, with his determination to right wrongs, but also his ability to see beyond what they want you to see.

Harmony is a city in flux and a city in need of rescue. It is a story of the haves and have nots. It fits in perfectly with the world I feel we are in at the moment. As you read, you feel that need to decide if you are going to let the world burn or do everything in your power to make it better.

Songbird does what she needs to do, carrying on her parents work and Detective Shaw is trying his best to stop her. As the story progresses, Shaw eyes are open and we get to see what people will do for the city and the people they love.

It is non-stop action and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Wright has created a world that I want to immerse myself in.

[ARC review]

Songbird blew me away!!

First of all, I am so grateful to have received an ARC of this book. What an honor. This story was beautifully written, incredibly immersive, and completely unputdownable. I went in already familiar with Rebecca’s writing, but I was genuinely surprised in the BEST way by S.L.’s writing ability. Together, these two DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT. Their voices blended seamlessly, and the result was a powerful, addictive read.

The dystopian romance theme hit hard, and honestly… tell me we aren’t basically living in a dystopian world here in the US right now while trying to fight the patriarchy 🙄🫠. The story felt painfully relevant while still delivering high-stakes tension, emotional depth, and swoon-worthy moments.

The tension throughout the book was chef’s kiss, and the characters were absolute badasses, especially the FMC. She was strong, fierce, and unapologetic, and I loved every second of her journey. The quote “always fight the good fight” stuck with me and perfectly captured the heart of this story.

I truly could not put this book down lol. From start to finish, Songbird kept me hooked, emotionally invested, and wanting more. If you love dystopian romance, powerful women, resistance vibes, and stories that make you feel something, this one is a MUST read. 💥🔥

I received an eARC of this book (Thank You, Rebecca Wrights), and here are my honest thoughts!

⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
🌶️🌶️

tropes:
🔪 morally gray FMC
🌃 dystopian setting
🕊️ cat and mouse games
🔪 enemies to lovers
🌃 age gap
🕊️ found family
🔪 only one bed

One thing Rebecca never fails to do is deliver badass FMCs in her books. And who doesn't love a badass FMC? especially if she is morally gray🔪 I also loved how Songbird is a tall fmc at nearly 6 feet🖤

Our MMC is a detective on a mission to hunt down Songbird, which makes them hate each other initially, but we see them gradually developing feelings for each other, which makes the tension and banter between them the HOTTEST!!❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

The story feels real, as sadly, all these things are happening in the real world right now. I hope we all fight for what's right. I highly recommend reading this book and hope it inspires people to fight for the right!

Rebecca and S. L. Wrights did an awesome job on writing this book! Can't wait to see what they have planned for next in the series💜

Loved the Dedication, thank you for this!
"To all the women who never got to be girls because the world forced them
to grow up too soon. It’s okay to be angry. It’s okay to continue to grieve
what you never had. And it’s also okay to be soft and let people in who want
to love you—including your sharpest pieces."

“Always fight the good fight.”

A huge thank you to Rebecca Wrights for providing me with an ARC of this book 💜

Songbird was my first Rebecca Wrights book, and it absolutely will not be my last!

This story delivered everything I love in a dystopian romance and more. The world felt gritty and uncomfortably close to real life at times, which made the stakes feel so much higher. But what truly made this book shine were the characters - specifically the women. Songbird & Trickshot were such badass, morally grey characters who stood up for what & who they believed in with their whole heart.

As for the romance:
The enemies-to-lovers, cat-and-mouse dynamic between Songbird and Shaw had me hooked from the start. The tension, the push and pull, the chemistry…it was absolute perfection!

& Trickshot and Lugnut?! I need Trickshot to take off the blinders immediately because Lugnut is SO obviously in love with her and I am unwell about it.

I absolutely loved this book!! It wasn’t just entertaining, it was meaningful 🖤

Tropes:
🌃 Morally Grey FMC
🔪 Vigilante x Detective
🌃 Found Family
🔪 Enemies-to-Lovers
🌃 Dystopian
🔪 Only One Bed

✨ Favorite Quote:
“You don’t have to be satisfied with a life just because it’s better than elsewhere and you don’t deserve a perfect life simply by virtue of existing.”

Thank you to Rebecca Wrights and her husband for allowing me to ARC read this book! 4.25 ⭐️ is my rating for the book it was honestly exactly what I love for romantasy reading style in a book. I wanted to consistently keep reading it and I thought for sure it was gonna pull through right at or next to 5 ⭐️ but then I hit the ending and for me that's where it fell apart. I feel like the last chapter and epilogue should have just been together. Beyond even that I was able to read an extra chapter since I was an ARC reader that is not part of the published book, that chapter was amazing and for sure should have been a part of and the book and the writing style should have remained in the ending like that chapter. I was immediately left with questions when finishing the book. What happened to the watch? How did all the main characters not get caught and remain out of trouble? Etc.. but we were immediately just jumped to knowing they got married and that were going into a second book about Trikshot, which I assume is going to focus in more on that character. It truly was such a good book and I will absolutely be reading the next one... the ending just didn't pull it all together for me and was definitely a bummer.

ARC READER ✨

I was sucked in from the very beginning. Enemies to Lovers is one of my favorite tropes and Songbird & Shaw did not disappoint. She’s a morally gray vigilante & he’s a detective set out to find her at all cost. Their banter & tension was a good slow burn which obviously lead to their “magnetic pull” towards each other.

I enjoyed the dystopian setting (really put me in my teenage feels) with a corrupt corporation & social divides. With the parallels to what’s going on today (IRL) it was easy to connect with and felt personal and really sucked me in.

Not only did Songbird &. Shaw have the whole enemies to lovers they also had history (which you find out later) that added a layer to their relationship that I didn’t see coming, but had me rooting for them more.

The pacing was up and down for me.. some parts felt dragged out while others felt perfect. The action, deception, and steamy moments kept me going in the parts I felt a little slower.

I can’t wait to see the series continue because I feel like this was just the tip of the iceberg. I want to know more about the other characters we met in this book.

If you love badass FMCs and dystopian vibes.
Add Songbird to your TBR. Highly recommend—4 solid stars. 🕊️

Utterly obsessed with everything in this book! The plot, the characters, and the world building was just TOP TIERR!!! This book will LITERALLY captures your attention with the first page! And I know this because it is exactly what happened to me while I was in Mexico, I couldn’t put this book down no matter how hard I tried. Page after page the plot just continued to keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat. I loved how actioned packed this book was. This books is a dystopian romance where the FMC is a baddie fearless vigilante who is trying to take back her city! I really enjoyed the romance and banter between Shaw and Songbird and how they were truly enemies to lovers. Like Shaw was hunting down our girl down but ultimately fell for her instead.

Songbird and her team were always getting into sticky situations that had me worried that they weren’t going to make it out. But they are just the perfect team! Add in Shaw at the end, and I can’t wait to see what they get into in the next book! I fear if I tell you more I might spoil it, so go do yourself a favor and go read SONGBIRD asap!! And as you read I hope you not only fall in love with the plot, Songbird and Shaw, but also with Songbird’s crew! Can’t wait for this series to continue!!!

Songbird is a gripping dystopian romance that blends enemies-to-lovers tension with conspiracy, shadow governments, and morally gray choices.

Detective Oliver Shaw has always believed in The Corporation and his role in protecting Harmony. But when the city’s vigilante, known only as Songbird, begins pulling him into her web of secrets, everything he thought was right starts to unravel.

What stood out most to me was the emotional depth of both main characters.

Songbird is strong, intentional, and unapologetically morally gray. Oliver’s internal struggle being condemned for doing what he believed was right added layers to his character and made their dynamic even more compelling.
The enemies-to-lovers tension is perfectly paced. The push and pull, the ideological clashes, and the slow shift in understanding between them made it hard to put down.

The pacing overall felt balanced not too slow, not rushed allowing both the romance and the dystopian elements to fully develop.

I also loved the found family vibes (Firewall especially stood out), and I’m excited to read more from the Harmony series.

Overall, an immersive and addictive start to the series that keeps you questioning who the real villain is.

Songbird is a dystopian romance, age-gap, enemies-to-lovers story. There’s muuuurdahhh. 🔪 There’s spiccce. 🌶️ There’s very real-world problems 🛑

Character review: Rebecca Wright does an amazing job with developing the characters throughout the storyline. Songbird is already a bad bitch, but she grows to be an absolute GODDESS.

Shaw develops from an already beautiful human, to an absolute masterpiece of a man.

Trickshot is the bestie bad bitch every woman needs in her life.

Lugnut reminds me so much of Volts in Hunger Games. He’s a shell of a man with a soft place for his found family. He’s protective of what he’s built.

Firewall is an absolute genius, and her introverted personality is so relatable, it’s very easy to put oneself in her shoes.

Plot development: beautiful, wonderful, messy. Close to home. Intense. Action.

If you’re a fan of the Hunger Games, the Shatter Me series, and you’re a little afraid and disgusted with what goes on in the real world, Songbird is the book to read.

Songbird released on February 13th, 2026, and is now available as a paperback on Amazon, and an E-book on kindle unlimited.

Thank you, Rebecca Wrights for allowing me the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book. You have done an amazing job.

This was my first dystopian romance and I’m so glad it was by one of my favorite authors! I was instantly hooked in this storyline. Many moving pieces and history to try and put into place to figure this out. Songbird has basically been on her own since her parents murders, and now she’s done everything in her power to take down The Corporation, evil, no good men, who now run their city of Harmony. Oliver Shaw is the detective tasked with bringing her in dead or alive for the crimes she’s committed!

I love the way Songbird and her friends come together. They have a mutual understanding and no one knows each others real name or backstories. When she starts involving the detective though, to help him see he’s on the wrong side of things, they both have this instant attraction. She plays him so good but he can’t help but be drawn to her. Their hatred towards each other leads to the best kind of foreplay and spice though and I loved it! The connection they have may run deeper than they realize and this will just leave you wanting more!

This series is going to be really fun and I can’t wait to see how this plays out. Thank you to the author for the advanced copy!

Wow! This book was amazing. I want to thank the authors for an early E-ARC!! This was my first 5 star read of the year! It was phenomenal! I loved it. It was giving me Mindf*ck vibes which was a 4 star for me, but SONGBIRD!! (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Omg it was such a good read it was over the top. I am so grateful I got an early ARC . Mind you I went into this book blind. I loved the cover so I said why not sign up and test my luck! I was hooked on the 1st page and didn't want to put it down at all. I would of finished it in a day but life got busy. The FMC was great I love me a Morally gray FMC we don't really get much of those so I loved that. The side characters we're great and hilarious. I would love too see this book hit the big screens. That's how amazing this book was. It had my at the edge of my seat biting my nails so I had to obviously pre order the book and I am so excited to get it in the mail I can't wait to have it in my hands! Overall this was such an amazing book that you will want to pick up. You can get your copy on February 13 I believe. This book is going to be in my head nonstop! I cannot wait for book 2!! The authors did such on amazing job!!

✨Okay but why did this have me stressed in the best way??

This book is giving dystopian revenge, morally gray heroine, and the man assigned to hunt her slowly catching feelings. And I ate it up.🫶🏽

Harmony is dark and broken under the Corporation, and you can feel how heavy everything is after the Night War. The world felt gritty without being overwhelming, and 🫠 I loved the tension simmering in every chapter. 🕊️Songbird herself? Ruthless. Focused. Fueled by grief. She’s not soft, she’s not sweet, and she’s definitely not asking for forgiveness. And honestly? I respected it.💯

Absolutely loved Oliver. The internal conflict? Chef’s kiss. 🤌🏽Watching him try to stay loyal to the Corporation while slowly unraveling because of her was so good. Their dynamic is very much cat and mouse, and “I should turn you in but I don’t want to” energy. 🤭The chemistry was there, it just simmered more than exploded.🔥

⭐️Overall? I was hooked. If you love enemies to lovers, rebellion plots, strong female leads, and tension that makes you clutch your Kindle a little tighter… this one’s for you.🙌🏽

Thank you to the Author Rebecca Wright for the opportunity to read this ARC!💜

Dystopian books are back! When I say you need to read this I mean it! I had no expectations going into this book and it exceeded every single expectation that you could probably think off. It’s giving the 2010-2012 vibes and I am so here for it. Like I want a movie or tv show of this book asap.

Songbird is everything that you want in a fmc of a dystopian universe. She’s a baddie who cares about the people. My heart broke because of her background but she’s feisty and I love her!

Oliver Shaw the man that you are. I didn’t like him at first but before you know it you love him. Doesn’t mean I didn’t want to strangle him so many times. Also the enemies to lovers troupe is a great one.

This book is full of troupes I love. Especially the found family troupe, I love their family! This book is an excellent read and I didn’t want to put it down. The world building and just how close it might hit to home for the world at the moment is everything. I cannot wait for the next book. But you need to read this book! My favourite read so far this year.
