The Monday Night Heartbreak Club

Rate this book
Is your love life a bit of a disaster? You’re not alone...

When Fee finds herself drunk, dumped and directionless on Valentine’s Day, she stumbles across a flyer for a new club, for people united by heartbreak. Intrigued, she joins a motley group of strangers at a quiet Yorkshire wine bar the following Monday night.

There’s Margot, in the middle of a bitter divorce;

Annie, whose husband of forty years she suspects is having an affair;

Wren, quietly nursing her own romantic regrets;

and Fraser, who may have mistaken the group for a dating opportunity.

But what begins as a weekly wallow soon becomes something more, especially when the club starts an undercover operation to discover the truth about Annie’s husband and his infidelity.

For Fee, who’s only just holding on to any self-worth she had left, the Monday Night Heartbreak Club offers something she never expected: purpose, friendship and maybe even a fresh start.

And then there’s Flynn, the sarcastic bartender who might just see the real Fee beneath the chaos.

Feel-good and empowering, Jane Lovering's brand-new novel is about heartbreak, healing and the surprising ways people find each other when life falls apart.

Jane Lovering was born in Devon, England but, following extradition procedures, now lives in Yorkshire. She has five children, four cats, two dogs and doesn't believe in housework so the bacteria and dust are approaching sentience and now rank among the pets. She works in a local school and also teaches creative writing, which are extreme ways of avoiding the washing up.

Published since 2008, she writes romantic comedies which are often described as ‘quirky’. One day she's going to find out what that means. Jane is a member of the Romantic Novelists' Association and has a first class honours degree in creative writing. In 2012, her novel Please Don't Stop the Music won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award by the RNA.

I received a free copy of, The Monday Night Heartbreak Club, by Jane Lovering, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Fee joined The Monday Night Heartbreak Club, after she was newly single. It is so hard to make friends when you are older, this club seems to be a great way to make new friends. This was a good read.

The Monday Night Heartbreak Club by Jane Lovering, after Fiona‘s boyfriend breaks up with her and she’s on thin ice at work and doesn’t speak to her dysfunctional family at all she sees nothing wrong with joining the club at her local wine bar. Originally it was called the disappointed Valentine club or if you ask member Frasier the revenge club. because soon after establishing it the heartbroken members all get together to help one of them who thinks her husband is cheating on her. The group consist of Fiona a.k.a. Fee, Margot, Ren, Annie, Frasier and last but definitely not least bartender Flynn. they spy on the husband and even get Frasier to join his gym while Fiona and Flynn stake him out watching his movements. Fiona joined the group because her boyfriend Dexter left her yet again but this time she wants it to be the last time, she knows Dexter is always up to no good isn’t faithful and only sees her as something to do but soon Dexter wants to come back her refusal infuriates him something he will not take lightly but by the time Fee realizes how far he is willing to go to keep what his it may just be too late. All of this on top of the fact her and Flynn are getting closer and she learns Flynn isn’t exactly who she thought he was, but possibly something better. I know I screwed up this review just know the book has some very funny moments in it not to mention heartwarming moments and a book I thoroughly enjoyed. Jane Lovering is one of those authors who I love to read when I am in a good mood or want an emotional lift because they’re always positive and heartwarming not to mention lol funny. I would definitely recommend this book to those who like happy endings lovable characters and a definite page Turner.#NetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #JaneLovering, #TheMondayNightHeartbreakClub,

My first book by this author. We meet a group of strangers who have all come together for a new group in a wine bar, specifically aimed at people united by heartbreak! Fee has dumped her controlling boyfriend, Margot is in the middle of a divorce, Annie thinks her husband is having an affair, Wren has broken up with her wife and Fraser has never had a girlfriend. Add in Flynn, the barman in the bar, and you've got a group of people who don't have an awful lot in common other than being unlucky in love!

I liked this book, it was a fun read with some more serious issues dotted throughout. The characters are all interesting and have their own story to tell. I did like Fee as the main character and I enjoyed the build up in her friendship with Flynn. Fraser did have to be my favourite though! He was constantly making inappropriate comments, but his character seemed to be the one who got the most out of joining the group!

The storyline flowed along well, there were lots of little stories throughout, and there was definitely lots of self discovery and development between each of the characters. There was a little bit of romance but it wasn't all hearts and flowers with lots of obstacles for the characters to overcome first. A light-hearted read with an ending that suggests there may be more from the Heartbreak Club! Would recommend.

I was invited to read a pre-approved copy by Boldwood Books on Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An amusing and heartwarming story, “The Monday Night Heartbreak Club”, by Jane Lovering, features a heroine very down on her luck and a guarded hero who turns out to be a gem of a person.
I liked the humor, the rhythm of the narrative and the odd connections and relationships that become solid and reliable as the story unfolds.
Fee and Flynn are compelling leads, showing new, unexpected facets, growing and changing throughout the story.
The heroine becomes more likeable and the hero can be both sweet and sexy, mysterious and grounded.
The secondary characters are interesting, too. Frazer, Margot are so comical to watch.
Some serious issues are addressed in the story, fortunately with a sensible perspective (and the villain gets punished).
A very enjoyable read.

This was an arc requested on Netgalley!
4.5 ⭐️

Starting this I wasn't sure what to expect. It was classified as a romance but it ended up being so much more than that.

The writing felt comfortable, it wasn't too flowery for the story it was telling, but it also wasn't too 'easy' to read, if you know what I mean. The story focuses on so much more than the undercover operation. It really shows all the emotions Fee goes through. How she, but also every other member of the club, has been shaped by their past experiences with all kinds of love. All the characters experience so much growth during this story. And honestly, every one of them has found themselves a special place in my heart. I feel like we really get to know everyone very well even though everything is written from Fee's perspective.

Then the story itself. It was heartwarming, bittersweet, surprising, and so funny. I loved the undercover operation following Annie's husband, but especially the stakeouts. They were funny, yet tense, and they were the moments where you really saw the relationships between characters grow. I loved the plottwists in this books. Both the big ones and the smaller ones. Finding out those little things was often funny and interesting, the bigger onces were shocking, or simply things I had not thought off. I loved how the storyline of the undercover operation was resolved with still a significant chunk of the story to go, but still Lovering managed to keep the hints to that storyline going all the way to the end.

The big, big plottwist I didn't see coming to be honest. At first I wasn't sure what to think about it, was it too much? But in the end I loved it. It brought all the characters so much closer together, some loose ends needed tidying up, and that is what happened for sure in this part of the book. I do feel like this part of the book moved a little too fast for my liking, it could have used a little more details, and some questions were just immediately resolved within the same chapter, which I think could have been stretched a little.

But this part of the book also fixed something for me which I did not like earlier on. There was something about FLynn's reaction to Fee's incident with her ex that didn't sit well with me. I didn't like how he used his background (I won't spoiler it) to protect her. But this last part of the book made up for that and I felt like it was making more sense. At first it felt out of the blue, and by this point in the book I felt like I knew Flynn so much better.

Also, the ending makes me want more books about these characters! I think that with this ending there for sure is room for at least one sequel.

Having been dumped (again) by her boyfriend, Fee comes across a leaflet about a club for people who have been unlucky in love. With nothing better to do, she goes along to the wine bar where it meets the following Monday. Jane Lovering has created some brilliant characters in this book and I enjoyed getting to know all the members of the club and the varied reasons why they had been disappointed in love.

I would say that The Monday Night Heartbreak Club has a darker edge than some of Jane’s previous books. Her main character, Fee, has really had quite a tough life. Her family seemed truly horrible and didn’t value her, constantly putting her down. Her layabout brother had been treated like the golden boy although he certainly didn’t deserve to be. Family life had been, as Fee said ‘Like the Dursleys and Harry Potter but without the magic.’

There was real danger for Fee and others in the book and more than a few heart-stopping moments. Jane Lovering doesn’t make light of having a vindictive ex and, although some of what Dex does is rather extreme, you can see how terrifying it must be to have a controlling ex-boyfriend who is certain he can do whatever he likes and will be taken back again and again. Fee’s family life had been so awful and her self-esteem so low that she didn’t think she deserved better.

Having said that, there were plenty of lighter moments in the book to make me smile. Fraser in particular was hilarious with his penchant for snacks and saying just what he thought however inappropriate that may be. It was fun reading about the group beginning to gel and especially when they began an undercover investigation to find out the truth about Annie’s husband.

And of course there is a love story and if anyone deserved to be loved it was Fee. This aspect of the story was beautifully done and Fee began to realise that perhaps she was worthy of being loved, that she deserved happiness and to be valued as much as anyone else. I don’t want to give away the love interest but I thought it was so interesting that that person also wanted to be seen and appreciated for who they were. It’s fair to say their family backgrounds were very different but both came with challenges.

The Monday Night Heartbreak Club is a lovely story about new friends, found family as it were, and fresh starts despite adversity. As well as a romance, there are some big issues explored in this book which are tackled very sensitively. Another emotional, heart-warming read from Jane Lovering.

I loved this unexpectedly. The whole time I thought it was a cute romance about friendship, love, found family, etc. It definitely was, but also ended up being so much more. Things took a crazy turn, although somewhat unconventional for what I thought the theme/genre was, but that is why I ended up loving it so much more.

This group of strangers formed a club based on their heartbreak & loneliness, but ended up forming very deeply rooted relationships with one another. That may sound very obvious, but let me preface by saying this was only about 50% love story. The other half is trauma, domestic violence, alcoholism, and just very crime-related. I don’t want to say more than that, but I became much more emotionally invested. I laughed, I cried, I was angry, then hopeful. Every character made an impact on me (maybe besides Annie), but I love them all in a major way. If you don’t mind how British the book is and can look past “bloke” and “blimey” being used at least 2-3 times per page, then I would definitely take the time to read it. I really did love it a lot. Phoebe & Flynn deserve the world.

This was a wonderfully different romance, stemming from heartbreak, but with so many other strands to the story.
Fee has had enough of her worthless, sexist boyfriend, and somehow finds herself at the gathering of people suffering heartbreak after seeing a leaflet at her local wine bar.
Through the club, we get to meet many people, each with their own story, from a woman going through divorce, a woman suspecting her husband is having an affair, a woman coming out of a long-term relationship, and a man who can't even find a relationship, let alone suffer heartbreak.
Along with Flynn, the bartender at the wine bar, they make up a motley crew and end up as amateur investigators, as well as dealing with a larger emergency, with many hearts meeting over the course of the book.
Heartwarming read!

Thank you Libro.FM for the #ALC 🎧

This was sooo repetitive and I did not care to follow alongside the main character. I can only hear the word "alcohol" so much before it gets annoying. After 40%, I feel like we were going no where and it was not keeping my interest. Maybe the physical book is better!

This was such a cleverly thought-out story. I thought it was heartwarming, surprising, funny book with friendship at the heart of it.

I loved the concept of people starting a group due to not having a relationship for valentines day. I loved seeing how their friendship grew and how they all rallied round each time one of them needed support.

This book will have you chuckling!

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege of being able to read this book. I truly appreciate it.

I've loved the previous book I've read by Jane Lovering, and I really loved this band of characters, and the story. But for some reason despite being about deep issues, this story lacked depth for me. I loved everyone coming together and I really really loved the ending it was a perfect idea and I wish I could see that actually happening in a future book. I just don't know why but for me the depth of all of their true relationships felt off for me which is unusual as she's really great at creating that. Maybe it's because this time there's actually a band of characters and I think it might have felt like more if they each had had a chance to have their own povs scattered throughout the book instead of just Fee's. I really would have loved to hear all of their seperate thoughts.

Well there is a lot of romance kind of here in different ways, I would honestly have to say if you're looking for a book that inspires growth, and that is focused on finding a found family, this through and through would be that. It's the found family aspect that truly stole my heart and had me giving it the rating I did, along with that ending. It was extremely creative and very much the Jane Lovering I know and love and it would make a great inspiration for a new series it really would, especially if they each were to get their own povs.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart again for allowing me the absolute privilege of being able to read this book. I really appreciate it and I really enjoyed it.

I always snap up Jane Lovering's books when I see them on Netgalley. I've read nearly all the books she's written and this one is my second favourite (the favourite is always The Boys of Christmas).
Fee is failing at pretty much every metric. She ends up drunk, dumped and very unhappy in the bar across the street from where she lives, where she stumbles upon the Monday Night Heartbreak Club. They are an odd assortment of people, all of whom have been disappointed in love in one way or another. There's Margot (who is getting divorced - she's scary), Annie (who thinks her husband is having an affair - sweet), Wren (who has just broken up with her partner), Fraser (who came because he thought he might meet some desperate women - his character arc is the best!) and Flynn, the sarky bartender who ends up joining the group.
I loved the way the group came together to help Annie. They each brought their own strengths to the project and it bonds them. A group of lonely individuals become a family of sorts.
There's a lot of drama in this book - some of it genuinely scary, but mostly the book is warm and funny. It made me chuckle out loud a few times - especially Fraser, he's hilarious. Ultimately, it's a story about healing and found family and friendship. There's romance too, obviously, but I loved the character development most of all.
This is a interesting, funny and heartwarming read. I highly recommend it!

The Monday Night Heartbreak Club by Jane Lovering

Genre: Contemporary Romance/Rom-Com
Pub Date: October 12, 2025
Publisher: Boldwood Books
Pages: 266

After a recent breakup with a terrible boyfriend, Phoebe joins the “Monday Night Heartbreak Club,” a group that meets in a local wine bar advertised to those experiencing heartbreak after a bad Valentine’s Day. She joins the club and ends up forming friendships (and adventures) with an interesting cast of characters, all from various backgrounds but with the common ground of being lonely and heartbroken after Valentine’s Day.

This was a great rom-com! Light in the romance heavy on the comedy. I can’t even say how many times I laughed out loud! It’s a British novel and the humor is dry, witty and outlandish at times. Amid all the funny moments you watch the characters build a strong support system with trusting relationships, dealing with current disappointments but come to terms with the past. Through the support and sense of belonging fostered by the club the characters grow and become better individuals, making you root for them the whole time! There were some hard topics and dramatic moments in this book but with the antics of the characters and lots of humor mixed in the book never became too heavy. This was a great feel good story and perfect to read on a rainy day or relaxing weekend due to the short size of the book.

Thank you to @lovebookstours and @the.shelfcareclub for an ARC of this story I’m exchange for an honest review! It was so fun to be a part of this book tour!

This was my first time reading something by this author.  I found it to be a a warm, funny, and surprisingly uplifting story about heartbreak and starting over. Fee’s life is in shambles after a terrible Valentine’s Day, but everything changes when she stumbles into the Monday Night Heartbreak Club—a small, mismatched group of people who are all dealing with their own romantic disasters.
Each member brings something different: Margot with her messy divorce, Annie with her fears about her long-time husband, Wren with her quiet sadness, and Fraser, who may have gotten the wrong idea entirely. Their meetings start off as a place to vent, but soon turn into real friendship, complete with a slightly chaotic undercover mission to find out whether Annie’s husband is cheating.
Fee’s journey is relatable and full of gentle humor. Watching her gain confidence, purpose, and a sense of belonging is one of the best parts of the book. The blossoming connection between Fee and Flynn, the snarky bartender, adds just the right amount of slow-burn romance.
Overall, this is a feel-good, comforting read that reminds you how healing friendship can be—and how sometimes the people you least expect become your favorite part of life. It’s a great read for anyone looking for a heartwarming story with humor, hope, and a touch of romance.
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Boldwood Books and am voluntarily leaving my review.

The Monday Night Heartbreak Club by Jane Lovering is a funny, feel-good story about heartbreak, healing, and unexpected friendship.

This book was like a hug in novel form. It starts with Fee—drunk, dumped, and spiraling on Valentine’s Day—who stumbles across a flyer for a heartbreak support group. What begins as a slightly awkward gathering in a Yorkshire wine bar turns into something genuinely lovely. The group is full of quirky, endearing characters: Margot, Annie, Wren, Fraser… each nursing their own wounds, each bringing something unexpected to the table.

I loved how the story balanced humour with heart. There’s a bit of mystery, a dash of romance (Flynn the bartender, anyone?), and a whole lot of emotional honesty. Fee’s journey from rock bottom to rediscovering her self-worth felt real and relatable. And the group’s undercover antics to expose Annie’s husband? Equal parts hilarious and touching.

Jane Lovering has a knack for writing characters you want to root for. This isn’t just about heartbreak—it’s about connection, second chances, and finding joy in the messiness of life.

Perfect for fans of Beth Moran or Veronica Henry, especially if you like your stories with wine, wit, and a little chaos.

With thanks to Jane Lovering, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

★★★✩✩

I went into this hoping for a five-star hug, and while I definitely felt the warmth, I’d say this one landed right in the middle. The setup is perfect: Fee, recently dumped and totally adrift, stumbles into a support group of strangers united by Valentine's Day heartbreak.

The best part of this book is the found family. I absolutely adored the eccentric crew—Margot, Annie, the surprisingly sweet Fraser and watching them drop their guards and form genuine connections was heartwarming. This is where the book shines. Fee's personal journey from being utterly down on her luck to finding self-worth, with some great banter with the barman Flynn, is genuinely compelling.

However, the story does take a noticeable detour. Around the middle, the quiet, character-driven narrative about healing shifts gears into a kind of sudden, chaotic mystery/intrigue plot. It gave the second half an unexpected burst of energy, but it also made the story feel a bit messy and rushed toward the end.

It's an easy, funny, and genuinely sweet read, perfect for fans of cozy rom-coms with a focus on friendship. It’s got a big heart, but I just wish the plot had kept its feet on the ground a little more. Recommended if you love a good ensemble cast overcoming life’s disasters together!

Thank you Jane Lovering, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the digital arc!

The Monday Night Heartbreak Club is a warm, witty, and surprisingly emotional read that perfectly blends humour with heart. The FMC Fee is drunk, dumped and directionless on Valentine’s Day. She stumbles into the wine bar across from her flat and when she joins a support group for the heartbroken, she expects tearful confessions and endless misery—but instead finds a quirky mix of new friends, unexpected laughter, and maybe even a chance at love again. In this group, we have Margot (in the middle of a bitter divorce), Annie (who suspects her husband of 40 years to be having an affair), Wren (who is nursing her own regrets), Fraser (who joined the group thinking their would be dating opportunities) and Flynn (the bartender who ends up joining the group).

I expected this book to be your typical rom-com however it was so much more than that. Lovering adds in a layer of trauma, abuse and guilt which made this story even better. The characters are all likeable in their own way, and you find yourself feeling part of their group. Lovering doesn’t shy away from the messy realities of grief and self-doubt, but she balances them beautifully with hope and humour. This book is as much about the friendships as it is about love. I’d recommend this to someone who wants a romcom with some added depth!

Thank you netgalley for allowing me access to this eARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

One day Phoebe's boyfriend breaks up with her so she decides to go across the street from her flat to this new wine bar that opened up to get sloshed. While being absolutely hammered, she notices a flyer on the wall displaying an upcoming get together of disappointing valentines. Interested, she decides to join it just for an excuse to get out of her lonely flat, not knowing that brave first step will lead her onto a much better and deserving path.

This was actually pretty fun and interesting. A journey of self worth, and the ability to find yourself even when all your life you've been beat down and told you are worth less than nothing. Found family, new love, new opportunities. This was an amazing story actually. It was funny sometimes and serious in others, it seemed perfectly balanced.
There's was a few mysterys in here, and i can't really say what this was geared towards, a mystery? A romance? Idk. Is mystery-romance a thing?
All I know was that the book was a journey of self discovering and finding your place in the world even when you feel like you've hit rock-bottom.
Also, the third act event.. did NOT see that coming. Left me with a wtf face, I even said "Excuse me?!" Out loud 😆

“Drunk, dumped and directionless” – yes, that’s certainly Fee at the start of this story. Working in a call centre was never something she wanted to do, but it pays for her tiny flat with the hallway that smells of fish, and the bed that folds up to give her a little floor space (although it never seems worth the effort). Dex comes and goes as he pleases – and perhaps life’s rather better when he’s not around. Then there’s the booze – it blurs life’s rough edges a little. And as for her family, where she’s always been put down while her brother’s been the golden child – what a horrendous start.

She’s feeling particularly low as she sits in the wine bar across the road from her flat – where she sees an ad for a new group made up of people who’ve had their hearts broken. And they’re certainly an eclectic group, ranging from bossy organiser Margot to young Fraser, not heartbroken (or even having ever been in love) but very much in need of the company. Having decided on their name, their first mission becomes finding out exactly what Annie’s husband is doing when he takes days off without telling her or “works late at the office” – and working on it together begins to change all of their lives for the better.

As always with the author’s books, there’s plenty of laughter – the cast of quirky characters is just wonderful, and Fraser in particular (with his many foot-in-mouth moments) creates a lot of the humour, joining Annie’s husband’s gym but certainly not losing his appetite for any nibbles going (those shorts are never going to fit…). But there are some tremendously touching moments too – there were several times when Fee’s hopelessness absolutely broke my heart. There’s also a really touching developing romance – some tangible support for Fee when she needs it so much, but although the loveliest man he certainly has his own rather different personal challenges too. And this is a book with some rather darker edges – in particular a significant moment that took me entirely by surprise, quite shocking and exceptionally well handled.

With the most wonderful friendships, a focus on the possibility of changing your life and recognising your own worth, that gentle love story running through it, and a group of very real individuals I grew to love, I adored this book. The balance of light and darkness is perfect, as are all the emotional touches – a story that really touched my heart, as beautifully written as ever, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

In this charming new romance novel, readers follow Fee, Margot, Annie, Wren, and Fraser who all run into each other at a bar around Valentine’s Day. Showing up for a club for people who recently experienced heartbreak, the five of them form an unlikely friendship as their meetings evolve from a weekly wallowing session at a Yorkshire wine bar to an investigation into Annie’s husband’s infidelity. Dubbed the Monday Night Heartbreak Club, this team of unlikely friends and amateur investigators’ antics will pull readers into the story and get them invested in their complicated personal emotional journeys. The characters are the absolute stars of the story, and their friendships and romantic relationships really help their various storylines develop over the course of the novel. The cozy setting and great vibes really set the tone, and the various settings are great backdrops to the major and minor storylines. Readers will love Fee’s character development in particular, and her growth over the novel is particularly rewarding. Packed with details and great conflicts between characters, readers will enjoy this cozy, unexpected, and entertaining romance novel from Jane Lovering, and fans of her other titles and the genre will definitely love her latest book.

A warm and witty story that had me hooked from the start and finished in just a couple of sittings. Fee, our main protagonist, is instantly likeable, and I genuinely warmed to the entire group of heartbreak survivors she meets. Each character brings something unique to the table, and not one felt out of place or underdeveloped.

What really stood out to me was the “found family” they created. Some of them lacked strong support systems or had strained relationships, and watching them build trust, friendship, and solidarity with one another was touching. It added emotional depth and made their journey feel all the more meaningful.

Around the halfway mark, I found myself thinking the story was wrapping up nicely, with satisfying revelations and emotional connections forming. But then, boom! (literally), a twist arrived that gave the second half a fresh burst of energy and intrigue. It was a clever shift that kept me engaged and added depth to the narrative.

The only slight downside for me was the ending, which felt a bit too neat and twee. Still, that didn’t take away from the overall charm and enjoyment of the book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the arc in return for my honest review.

This author, Jane Lovering, has become one of my favorite authors. I have read only one previous book that she wrote, but these two books have everything I adore!

The characters are are various ages, and some are a bit quirky, which I love! Although the plot was serious at times, I also laughed out loud more than I do with a comedic themed book. This is because the things I found funny appeared out of the blue and I did not expect them.

The plot was wonderfully planned and the characters showed growth as individuals and also developed lasting relationships with each other. As people get older, finding friends can be difficult, so I did relate to the characters and they became my friends also. I truly miss them now that I have finished the book and know that I will remember them now and again and think "what are they doing now?"

I enjoyed this book so much and look forward to many more by Ms. Lovering in the future. I need to look at her books that I missed before I knew of her and read them also!

A sincere thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

When Fee is dumped on Valentines day she drowns her sorrows in a local wine bar, there she picks up a leaflet advertising a new club for those hit by heartbreak. When she attends the first meeting she finds a motley crew, but gradually as the weeks go by she begins to find what she has always wanted, a sense of family.
This is a bit of an oddball story that did grow on me. I can understand Fee's sense of lack of self worth after always being second fiddle to her younger brother, which continued into her relationships. The rest of the group include a woman getting a divorce, one whose husband she feared was cheating on her, another who has just split with her girlfriend and another guy who had joined hoping to find a girlfriend to put it politely. Then there is the friendly barman who gradually joins in with the group. There are highs and lows, potential romance and secrets that are gradually revealed. There is also a hint of a follow up book with the group moving into uncharted territory, which I certainly hope does come along. In summary a book which is a combination of romance, mystery and hope for a better future.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

Are you ready for a Monday night club that is like no other? Fee responds to a flyer advertising a Monday night heartbreak club. She figures it's perfect for her and her recent heartbreak. What she gets though is found family in this wonderful heartwarming story.

Fee. Fraser, Annie, Wren and Margot meet at a wine bar and get together to sort out their love lives every Monday. For Fee it's never going back to her abusive ex-boyfriend. With help from the club however Fee's life takes on many changes, and maybe the biggest involve a sexy bartender and how she finally sees herself.

I thought I was going in for an easy-going romcom and this wasn't what I was expecting at all. I mean that in the best way possible. The characters are so well written and the story had me hanging onto every page. I simply couldn't put it down. It was romcom meets high stakes, especially with Fee's ex planning revenge. I laughed and I cried, and it was just so wonderful.

If you enjoy closed door romances with a little more adventure I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to read the rest of Jane Lovering's books.

This is trademark Jane Lovering: a female narrator with a deftly amusing turn of phrase who discovers plenty about herself during the course of the book, a romantic interest who has a few issues of his own, and a plot that drags the reader in and keeps them both entertained and guessing. For me, this book stands out for the ensemble cast: it's not just about Fee and Flynn, but about the wildly different characters who are initially drawn together through various aspects of heartbreak and find camaraderie and all sorts of unexpected connections. They're depicted with affection and all their foibles, and Fraser especially steals most scenes he's in. There are serious themes underpinning some of the madcap exploits, though, and the development at the three-quarters mark is a bit shocking but definitely serves its purpose. Ultimately there is a strong thread of realism running alongside the wit and the drama: so many aspects of these characters are recognisable, and that's the main thing that makes it so satisfyingly readable.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance review copy. All opinions are my own.

This is a contemporary romance that follows a group of people who are brought together through a new club for those who are disappointed Valentines. The group consists of six strangers who become unlikely friends, we have a better divorce, a suspected affair, a breakup, a toxic relationship, and so much more. The group decide to do something to support one of their members by doing a little investigating of their own.

This was a great book, Jayne’s writing style was really enjoyable and the character development was fab. I thought their growth throughout the story was great, particularly fee, she managed to extricate herself from her toxic family and abusive relationship, and after a few false starts she finally finds herself with a group of friends who support her no matter what. It is full of plot twists and some red herrings and when I tell you it has the mother of all plot twists, you won’t believe me until you read it! I did not see that beauty coming, it got dark quickly and I loved it. I can’t wait to read more about this group of friends. This was a great four star read for me and it is one I would definitely recommend.

My sincere thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read The Monday Night Heartbreak Club by Jane Lovering.

Have you ever been left longing on Valentine's Day? This book involves a group of people who have. They vary in age and experience, but they all feel a little down on love and romance. The main character is Fee who lives near the wine bar where the meetings take place. There is also Flynn, the bartender; Margot who is getting divorced; Annie who thinks her husband is cheating; Wren who has just broken up with her partner; and Fraser who is just hoping to meet some women who might be willing to date him. There is a bit of romance between Finn and Flynn, but it is not really the main focus of the book, but rather how the Heartbreak Club becomes like a family. I will say that I was reading right along and then whoa - a major change in direction. I didn't see it coming at all. If you enjoy a sweet book about friends coming together with an added touch of romance and mystery, go ahead and give this one a try. It was a fun read.
