Promise Me Shadows

Silver

He literally fell from the sky, with his sharp jawline, unsettling eyes, and those marks burning bright when he looks at me.

How the hell am I supposed to believe a word he says?

Cas is too powerful, too mysterious, and honestly? Too convenient. We’re on the brink of war, both inside and outside of the city. And all of a sudden, a bona fide god spawn lands in our laps, happy to help?

I don’t buy it. He must be a spy. A weapon deployed to destabilize us.

I’m watching him for a reason. And that reason has nothing to do with those thick thighs.

But damn, he really doesn’t miss leg days.

Cas

Someone needs to remove the broomstick firmly lodged in this chick’s shapely derrière before we murder each other.

She’s right, of course. I am lying. What am I supposed to say, that everyone on Earth will likely be dead inside of a year?

That would just make them panic ahead of time. It’s not like she can do anything against the gods and monsters set to take over.

The only entity on Earth capable of withstanding them is me. Too bad I’ve never been the savior type. And I’m not about to enter a losing fight with my family for a woman.

…Right?

Promise Me Shadows is book one in the duet following Cas and Silver. You may start the paranormal romance story here, although Vow Forever Night will give you better insight into the world.

Editing needed

The book is full of wrong words being used (e.g. size instead of side). It becomes confusing because these aren't simply typos your brain can correct. These cause confusion. For example, a character talks about booking a "shopper" out of the blue when the conversation had nothing to do with needing to buy things. Then several paragraphs later they get on a chopper.

The last third of the book requires readers to have prior knowledge of Paris, France. There are unexplained Paris-related acronyms (e.g. TGV, RER B), and distances marked via landmarks (e.g. losing pursuers near the Tuileries when you don't know how far that is from their current location). If you don't know the layout of the city, you won't know if the author is describing short distances or long ones. The overuse of landmarks served more as a reassurance that the character (and author?) has indeed been to Paris, even though the reader wouldn't be inclined to dispute that in the first place.

The French language used in the book is proper/formal French, not colloquial or casual French. It's something you learn at school or what a translation app spits out. It's not the French a low-level drug dealer speaks when he's trying to sell you contraband in a nightclub.

The book also toggles between American and British English. Sometimes it's arse, another time it's ass. Sometimes it's imperial measurements other times it is metric.

The writing style and the erros did not lend themselves to an immersive reading experience at all.

I can't wait for Book 4

Warning: if you start this series right before bedtime, expect to stay up late reading. Theses books grab your face and don't let go! Sages's stories are always a fun read. She handles multiple genres with skill and wit. I personally have lost quite a bit of sleep reading this series. Totally worth it!

A promising start

Mind the cliff! I absolutely adore this world and am glad to see it continue with book 3. I eagerly await book 4. The characters are fun and the premise feels fresh.

One thing of note: there are quite a few grammatical errors scattered throughout, which I found mildly annoying. It could have used another proofread before publishing.
