So I selected Speak Like a Leader in order to learn how to speak with confidence in front of a crowd, peers, visitors, and the like. In the past, I would get in front of a crowd, or even during an interview session for a new job, and I would get severely nervous. I would lose track of my thoughts. My heart could be heard outside of my body, or so it felt. I was unprepared. I didn't anticipate any of the interactions when I spoke, and unfortunately, it cost me: I didn't get some of the jobs I wanted, and my audience could see how nervous I was in front of them. But about a year or two ago, despite being in a leadership position for over 20 years, I jumped in headfirst during a conference where I had no choice but to do better. That experience is what led me to pick up this book. Some of what's mentioned in this book, I had already learned on my own through experience. But this quick read is the perfect "first steps needed" guide for anyone pursuing public speaking, especially as a leader. For that, 4 stars.
