When fleeing your past leads you straight to your future...
Aurora Pickering's seemingly perfect life in Beverly Hills comes crashing down around her when her fiancé announces that he’s in love with her cousin. Heartbroken and reckless, she crashes her car on a winding coastal road—an accident that should have killed, or at least paralyzed her. Instead, she awakens mysteriously unharmed, rescued by what she initially believes to be an angel. Later, she finds out her hero is an enigmatic Irish paramedic named Caleb.
Stranded in the idyllic town of Maple Bay, Aurora finds herself working at a charming inn and, for the first time, feeling like she belongs somewhere. The close-knit community embraces her, and she’s drawn to Caleb despite his obvious secrets. But Caleb is running from a dangerous past—his supernatural gift of healing nearly cost him everything when he couldn’t save a Chicago mob boss’s son.
As Aurora and Caleb grow closer, Caleb struggles to keep his abilities hidden. But when stories of miraculous healings in Maple Bay begin surfacing on social media, his past catches up with him. When a Chicago reporter sent by a vengeful mob boss closes in, Caleb must choose between protecting his secret and finally facing up to his fears.
In a town where everyone knows everyone else's business, some secrets are too powerful to stay buried.
A heartwarming tale of second chances, supernatural gifts, and finding home in the most unexpected places.
C.A. Gray is the author of three YA Amazon bestselling trilogies: PIERCING THE VEIL (magic and quantum physics meet Arthurian legends), THE LIBERTY BOX (dystopian metaphysics and mind control technology), and UNCANNY VALLEY (dystopian coming-of-age with neuroscience and super intelligent A.I). She starts with some scientific concept that she’s interested in learning more about herself, and then creates lots of epic chaos and high-stakes action to go along with it. Her stories are free of gratuitous violence, language, and sexual content, and she abhors depressing endings… but they’re not all kittens and rainbows either! She also listens to and reviews audiobooks on her website, here on Goodreads, on Instagram, and on her podcast, Clean Audiobook Reviews, where she also occasionally interviews other authors.
By day, C.A. Gray practices naturopathic medicine, podcasts, and writes medical non-fiction under her maiden name (Dr. Lauren Deville). She lives in Tucson, AZ with her husband Frank, and together they maintain an occasionally contentious film review blog (under her real name: Lauren Baden. Three names. Yes.) She’s kind of the queen of multitasking—so in her spare time, she creates whatever meals or crafts she found most recently on Pinterest, drinks lots of coffee (Aeropress btw) and occasional wine (reds—and she saves the corks for craft projects), works out (while listening to audiobooks), and studies the Bible—about half of the podcasts on Christian Natural Health are scripture meditations.
She does sleep, too. Promise.

What a wonderfully sweet story set in a small town. I don’t read many books on this genre but I could totally see this becoming a fun Hallmark movie. I absolutely loved how the two main characters got to know each other and even got chills at one point when the story really progressed. There were also a lot of well-formed side characters that helped bring to life the small-town feel. I read the last few chapters of the book while snuggled up in a blanket listening to the rain and ended up just smiling away as I finished the story. :) If you are looking to escape into a clean love story with a bit of suspense, this is the book for you. I truly enjoyed it and highly recommend this book. I received a free ARC of this book and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
I’m a big fan of this author, and I try to read everything she writes. This book is interesting and engaging, but I wouldn’t classify it as Christian fiction. One minor character gives all the credit for her abilities to God, and we get the quick backstory of how that happened, but that’s about it for faith elements. Another character chooses to not engage in sex outside of marriage, but she doesn’t really have a reason why. Her family members try to pressure her to keep a man by sleeping with him. Without a solid foundation to her refusal, it’s difficult for her to counter their arguments. There are also a couple of curse words, which surprised me.
That being said, I enjoyed the characters, the storyline, and the sense of being an outsider while finding the place you belong. It’s a page-turner, and I couldn’t figure out where things were going to go. It explores the question of what it would be like to have a supernatural power in the world we live in today, with social media and cell phones, where it seems like everything is captured on camera. There are discussions on trust and forgiveness, which are so important. And I loved the small town in the book; small towns are very different from the big cities.
I do recommend the book, but I think it would have benefited from characters having a relationship with Jesus.

Strange Currents is A new novel by C A Gray. Caleb has a gift, healing. Unfortunately, when he can't heal a mob boss's son, his life might not be worth much….he must run! I found that this fantasy is also a thriller. The characters are so well written and interesting. I could not put the book down. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
I came up with this story on a vacation with my husband to Carmel-by-the-Sea, and just fell in love with the town... particularly the fairy tale-inspired architecture in the residential area right outside the town, and one hike called Point Lobos. At the same time, I was studying electromagnetism (from a naturopathic perspective, for the EMF sensitive) and I started to think, what if my female main character lived in a fairy tale house like that, except it was an inn (one of them in Carmel actually was had a sign called "Storybook" something), and my male main character flees to the town because he has a supernatural gift involving channeling the earth's energy? And then I can populate it with quirky small town characters a la Stars Hollow from "Gilmore Girls." But then my first editor (who is my mom!) said, if you have a "Superman," you have to have a "Lex Luthor"--so, enter the vengeful mob boss, hunting my hero, while the FBI are on the mob boss's trail...
Strange Currents by C.A. Gray is a tender and immersive story that combines romance, suspense, and subtle supernatural elements in a way that feels both fresh and heartfelt. Gray masterfully weaves a narrative of second chances, personal growth, and the power of community, creating a small-town setting that feels alive and authentic.
Aurora Pickering’s journey from heartbreak to self-discovery is compelling, and her growing connection with Caleb, a mysterious and gifted paramedic is layered with tension, warmth, and chemistry. The plot balances moments of emotional reflection with high-stakes suspense, as Caleb’s hidden past and miraculous abilities bring danger and intrigue into the otherwise serene Maple Bay.
Gray’s writing is evocative, with descriptive landscapes, realistic dialogue, and well-rounded characters whose struggles and triumphs resonate deeply. Fans of heartfelt romance with a touch of the extraordinary will find themselves absorbed from the first page to the last. Strange Currents is a story about love, trust, and finding home where you least expect it.
I felt like I was teleported to a Hallmark Christmas movie even though this book did not involve Christmas until the end. What a vibe this book was—cozy, romantic, mysterious. 🥰🥰🥰
The plot follows a girl who escapes to a small town, only to cross paths with a mysterious, broody guy who of course turns out to be exactly what she didn’t know she needed. You can see the beats coming from a mile away, but honestly, that’s part of the appeal. 😅😅😅 I was dangerously close to throwing my kindle though because Caleb is the most infuriating communicator (or rather lack thereof) ever. The pacing is a bit slow but overall I enjoyed the story and plot!!
