When ancient magic calls, destiny cannot be denied.
Twenty-one-year-old witch, Marigold Blaine, thought the worst part of her birthday would be her mother's political ambitions overshadowing her magical coming-of-age. She was wrong. When her sister vanishes and a mysterious prophecy draws her into a supernatural conspiracy, Marigold discovers she's heir to an ancient legacy—a power her family has hidden from her for her entire life.
Across the Veil in the Fae Realm, disgraced King's Guard Eamonn has been exiled to the Watchers—or so he believes. When wolf shifters begin hunting his men and prophetic dreams of a pink-haired witch plague his nights, he realizes his exile might be the beginning of something far more dangerous than disgrace.
Dark forces are stirring, and family secrets are surfacing. As Marigold and Eamonn face their separate crises, they're being drawn into a larger conflict that will soon bring their worlds together in explosive ways neither can imagine.
Fated by ancient magic. Divided by realms. United by destiny.
The Beginning is the first book in the complete four-book Covert Moon series featuring ancient prophecies, unexpected heroes, witches, shifters, fae… and a love that transcends realms.
If you like Fated Mates, Cross-Realm Romance, Chosen One, Coming of Age, Strong Heroine, Prophecy, Found Family, Enemies to Lovers, Portal Fantasy, Witch Romance, Fae Romance, then this series is for you!
This book was enjoyable enough, but left so many questions at the end. From the synopsis, I was expecting more between the two main characters, but nothing really happened between them at all, apart from a couple of very vivid dreams.
Marigold Blaine is a witch living in the human realm, who had a very unhappy childhood. Now free from the daily unpleasantness that is her mother, she is hoping that her 21st birthday will bring about some much wanted and needed boost to her powers. Instead, something happens to her younger sister and her mother uses this situation to her advantage. Marigold, however, has had enough of her mother's shenanigans and ventures out on her own to find out what her sister has really been up to.
Over in the Fae Realm, Eamonn is a King's Guard, a much coveted position in this realm. But when his best friend betrays him, Eamonn is exiled to the back of beyond. Not knowing the real reason behind this awful exile, he deals with things as best he can. When one of his guards, who monitors the border to the Human Realm, fails to check in, Eamonn and another guard go to the Human Realm to investigate, but what they find there is completely shocking and totally unexpected.
I really liked the set up of this series - the world building was fantastic and it definitely left me wanting more, but the main plot of Marigold and Eamonn somehow meeting and probably being fated mates as per the blurb, fell a bit flat for me. Simply put, nothing happened, but I am hoping that now the scene has been set, that the second book in this series will move a bit faster with this idea. I will read the next one, as I want to see how Marigold and Eamonn finally meet in person!
I received an ARC copy of this book from Booksprout, but this review is my own honest one.
Marigold in the Human Realm is the "unwanted" daughter of a family of witches, her sister Calyx is the only member she is close to. Kings Guard Eamonn from the Fae Realm is in disgrace due to his best friend running away with a Lady of the court, and has been assigned to the Watchers - guards who watch the border between the Human Realm and the Fae Realm. The story is told from the viewpoints of Marigold and Eamonn alternatively, who see each other in their dream visions. The first few chapters were interesting and "set the scene" including who the main characters were, after that I had to finish the book in one sitting, it was so enthralling and exciting. Who (or what) is after the Watchers, and is it the same entity as attacked Marigold? What does this entity want? I cannot wait for the next book, when hopefully Marigold and Eamonn meet in person, and we find out more about the dangers awaiting both realms and how they are going to be counteracted. I read an ARC of The Beginning
Marigold is finally coming of age. Will her birthday be a time to celebrate her or another political advantage for her mother? She quickly finds she is part of something much deeper, much older than she herself. Marigolds sister Calyx, the natural talent is missing. An ancient prophecy is now proving to be coming forward but not with Calyx at the center but Marigold herself. Fae King Eamonn, disgraced and hunted by wolf shifters finds himself pulled by fate to Marigold and together they must fight the darkness descending on both of their existences. The book was quite a lovely read and I cannot wait to continue this story. I purposely left out spoilers so as not to give the book away for others. Corrine and Lisa write stories that keep your attention while letting the imagination roam!
3 1/2 stars. I liked the writing. The story has potential, however it hasn't developed enough in this book to have come to any climax, cliffhanger and it now the end of the first book. There are more questions than answers. I will read the next one in the series to see how it develops, I just felt the story didn't grow enough in this book I'm still waiting for it to develop. There is a lot of setting up of the big picture which could be good and I will have to see book 2 to see how it goes. There will be I think 4 books in this series, so we will see how well it grows onto a big story. Which I'm sure it will.

I really enjoyed this as a opening chapter to the Covert Moon series, it had that element that I enjoyed from from Corinne O'Flynn's writing. The concept worked well with the series and was engaged with the characters that were in the story. I enjoyed getting to read this and hope to read more. It uses the urban fantasy and paranormal romance elements together perfectly and felt like it belonged in this world and characters.

This book is well written it has so much information & the scenery is beautifully described. Written in dual POV helps us get both main characters back story. Hard to say much without spoilers but be warned the cliffhanger leaves you with more questions than answers. I already have the next book downloaded and hope the next has more answers.

I really enjoyed this story. I liked the main characters, the drama, the surprises, and secrets. I laughed and groaned and loved watching it all unfold. I really liked the ending and the setup for the next one and cannot wait to see what happens next. Well written and easy to read and get lost in the setup of the series in this one as get to know everyone.
This series is off to a great start. An exciting and suspenseful read with incredible world building and fascinating characters. You find yourself drawn to Marigold a witch and Eamonn a guard of the fae king who has been exiled. There’s a prophecy, a conspiracy, secrets, and an ancient legacy and I look forward to the next book!
This was a great read... Well written, suspenseful, great characters and locations... Didn't want to put it down... Would recommend to anyone looking for books with Fae or Witches... Great book!!! I give it 5 stars.
Covert Moon I Loved this short origin story that left me wanting more. It went by way to fast but left me riveted to the story and I can’t wait to see where it leads. I’m definitely rooting for our two MC’s and I can’t wait to see what the accomplish together.
An enjoyable story! The authors did a great job of writing from two different characters' POV - each one was distinct and the storylines are compelling. I'm looking forward to the next book!
