Between Lifelines & Undying Embers

Ender
When I first met Gabe—a month after our best friends started dating each other—I expected
awkward small talk and polite smiles. What I don't expect is the way he looks at me...like I’m
important. Like he sees something worth knowing behind the walls I’ve built over the years.
No one's ever looked at me like that before. Not my parents, who left me with scars deeper than
silence. Not one person—except maybe my best friends, who taught me how to survive when love
felt like a myth.
But Gabe's presence stirs something unfamiliar within me. A warmth. A hope. A terrifying, beautiful
ache. I don't know what these feelings mean, or if I'm ready to face them.
All I know is...I want him to stay long enough for me to find out.

Gabe
Life is finally falling into place—my best friend and I just opened our dream restaurant, and
everything feels right. Then he meets someone special. Luckily, this someone special comes with a
best friend who stops me in my tracks.
Ender is quiet, guarded, and heartbreakingly beautiful. One night is all it takes for me to know I want
more. Then, just as quickly as he lets me in, he shuts me out. With every red flag I find, I know I
should run. Anyone would, but I can’t. Because underneath all that pain and self-loathing is
someone worthy. I need him, and I think he needs me, too.

OH MY GOD!!!! WHAT A PHENOMENAL BOOOOOOKKKKKK

I LOVED ENDER AND GABE!!! the way they completed each other like it was meant to be like I can see the love that was put into writing them because I loved them so much.

I also can’t get over the Nicknames “blue” and “bean” how freaking cute is thisssssssssss omfg

I also loved how Gabe was such a yearning king for ender like honestly I love him but I love them as much as the other

I really enjoyed how Gabe was so calm with ender saying that ender didn’t have to talk about his last only when he was ready and I loved that about him, he was there for him even though with everything that happened he was his person or in this cause is bean and Gabe was Enders blue like ahh

I also loved the tattoo part like honestly I love it

AND HOW FREAKING SMUTTY THIS WAS OH MY GOD and I don’t want forget HOW KINKY THEY WERE!!

Like honestly they completed each other on all aspects of the story of their relationship and honestly I cried I love them so much it was such a phenomenal story I’m just so glad I got to meet them honestly they are now up on my high list of favorite couples

Thank you so much Haleigh Falcon for bringing them to life and writing their story and also writing LGBTQIA+ storylines and representation throughout this book, I’m so happy I will now read anything you write because this was so goooooodddddd.

I fell in love with Ender in Just is Not Enough and continued loving him through Between Lifelines and Undying Embers. He was a very sweet gentle character with a lot of past traumas to work through. Gabe was a breath of fresh air that Ender never saw coming. I love how devoted Gabe was to Ender from the jump.

It was really nice to see Kaden and Luke again. Especially from their friends viewpoint. Their relationship is so effortless. King Fred got a cameo as well, he's a food motivated menace of a cat!

I do feel that some of the consent talks that should have happened were brought up after the event already happened. There would be a scene and later it would be mentioned they talked about consent before that scene happened. I think it would have been nice if those could have been brought up before it happened but I appreciated that it was at least explained later.

I love the found family vibes of the story and am excited to see what else Haleigh comes up!

Once again Haleigh knows how to write all the green flags while also making me ball like a baby.

Sweet sweet Ender, I related to him so much that voice in your head telling you your not good enough, you don’t deserve love, and the questioning of how anyone could find themselves lovable those always scream the loudest, and are so hard to get quite. Ender needed someone like Gabe to help silence those and not give up when things got too hard even when he got frustrated. These two had such a strong connection from the start. EVERYONE needs a Gabe in their lives someone that keeps fighting and showing up no matter what.

I think this book will connect with a lot of people because I think we’ve all felt the way Ender has, although the circumstances might be different that hopelessly feeling is so common.

I’m such a dark romance reader and forget how much a truly love reading about a man that’s just literally the definition on green flags all the way to his core.

Very much a feel good romance that was filled with emotion and undeniable heat! My jaw was literally on the floor with come of those spicy scenes.

Thank you Haleigh for showing once again that there is always someone out there for those that think of themselves as broken. 😭😭😭

From the very first page, I absolutely fell in love with Ender. I was very vocal about that fact with the author and honestly, anyone who would listen. There was just something about him that hit me right in the chest…his quiet strength, his scars, his softness buried beneath years of pain. Watching him slowly let someone love him the way he deserved completely tore me apart in the best possible ways. It was beautiful, heartbreaking, and healing all at once.

And Gabe… oh, Gabe. I swooned over nearly everything he did for Ender. The way he saw him, really saw him, and refused to give up no matter how hard Ender tried to push him away. It was everything. The story unfolded so beautifully, surrounded by a cast of supportive, loving people who made every moment feel grounded and full of heart. It wasn’t just a romance; it was a reminder of what it means to choose love even when it scares you.

And then… the spice. Oh, the spice. It was stunning. A sex club, voyeurism, exhibitionism — sign me up. It was carnal and raw, yes, but there was so much tenderness woven into it. Every touch, every moment felt intentional and emotional. It wasn’t just desire — it was connection, vulnerability, and trust. I swear I was grinning, blushing, and absolutely bursting with excitement the entire time.

Finally, I need to say the biggest thank you to the author. Thank you for not only writing this beautiful, soul-shattering book but for letting me beta read and then ARC read it. Being a part of this story’s journey has meant so much to me.

Thank you, truly, for trusting me with Ender and Gabe’s story. I’ll carry them with me for a long, long time.

all the feels- 😍 Ender+Gabe are top tier.

Haleigh Falcon did it again with this book. Ender and Gabe give you the unconditional love that just squeezes your heart. We meet both of them in Just Is Not Enough (JINE), and immediately you fall in love with them because they are just great friends - so you immediately want that same kind of all consuming love for them. I love how the book pulls you behind the curtain, and though you know this is happening almost at the same time, you are in a totally different world so although reading the first JINE gives you contexts, you totally are not missing anything starting with this book, which for me is a must for a stand-alone that is part of a series of other interconnected books. This is a great Dual POV book so you get to go through the story with both of them- understanding them as characters and what is happening makes it that much better.

If you love a great story with a HEA, and even though you have some push and drama due to emotional baggage, it’s not enough to give you a good understanding of the characters. If fact everything that is part of the character backstory, which is set in the early chapters, allows you to totally connect with Ender, but also allows you to really connect with and appreciate Gabe. You know he is truly a genuine guy from meeting him through their friends, but you really get to see him shine in this book.

Spoilersss!!!!!! So I absolutely love the nicknames, Blue and Bean. It took me a while to get Blue, though it was probably obvious to most. I love how Gabe is determined to break through to Ender- my favorite quote “ I climbed over the wall and joined you. And I’ll be here until you’re ready to smash it to pieces with me.” Talk about being end game! The family elements are great, and I am glad we don’t get dragged into the parents’ drama (Ender's parents later in the book), he is healing and refuses to be pulled back, even knowing he has baggage. And I just loved Gabe’s mom! For the time she was in the book she really makes you love her as a mom to both Gabe, and her readiness to step in with Mrs. A to be Ender’s mom and friend.

The spice was great! I was just the right level of spice, I mean it's got the sex club, but it doesn't feel over done - you get great story worked into the spice. It builds something unique into their relationship, especially because for some reason it doesn't feel like what you would expect out of them otherwise. Gabe has that golden retriever energy, and Ender has that emo lover boy energy, so it just adds to the complexity of their characters. I love the text exchanges in this book - both between them as well as the friends.

I so loved reading this book. I was able to get through it quickly because I really just liked the characters. It's the type of book that makes you smile as you read it because you just see this relationship building. I also love how we are getting prepared for other stories in the Charlotte Socials series, and honestly I can’t wait. I loved Kaden & Luke! Gabe and Ender are just as wonderful. We even get Fred the cat back in this book, which was a special treat. I can't wait to see what is going on with Connor - I just love his personality and honesty, and I love how we get a bit of a sneak peak to make our minds start working on that story.... I just love all of them!

This was every bit the heartbreaking, heartwarming, amazingly sweet time I hoped it would be. Ender had my heart from the prologue. To not have the love, safety, stability and protection you deserve from the people who should provide it unconditionally is heart shattering. He deserved better. I’ve enjoyed Gabe since Just is Not Enough (book 1- read it if you haven’t yet.) and I loved seeing more of him in BLUE. He’s kind, genuine, generous, caring, patient, funny and everything Ender deserves. The way Gabe listened to Enders words, thought about them with sincerity and took lessons from his missteps and applied them immediately was so nice to see. All Ender wanted was to be seen and Gabe saw every true part of him. The relationship development was sweet and fun, the banter was great and I couldn’t put this down. Now, if we can only find someone (s) who can handle everything that is Connor!

BEAN ?! You’ve gotta be kidding me, Haleigh is the queen of pet names!

First of all: I appreciated the first few chapters overlapping scenes from JINE, seeing view points of what was happening with other characters at the same time.

I loved everything about this book. Yet another GREEEEN flag character written beautifully by the author. Gabe is such an incredible soul, I love how he was persistent but incredibly patient at the same time through all of Ender’s running. I knew Ender would tug my heart strings but I wasn’t prepared for how much. “I don’t understand why I’m sabotaging a connection that could’ve had potential” as someone with the same tendencies, my heart hurt for Ender but I also wanted to smack him a few times to just OPEN UP. I want to keep him in my pocket and protect him from the world.

Gabe and Ender’s early flirting literally had me giggling and kicking my feet, so flippin sweet. And the SPICE. It hits fast, it hits hard, and it’s HHOOOTT. But it absolutely doesn’t take away from plot, which is a big thing for me. Obsessed with the club scenes and the voyeurism/ exploring exhibitionism.

Overall a wonderful book that hits all the right spots!!

When the Prologue tears you up, you know you're in for a journey.
I knew our sweet Ender's was going to break my heart ❤️ he's one of those characters you just want to reach through the pages and hug him close and show him he deserves everything good. And Gabe, omg what an incredible absolute sweetheart with such a beautiful heart and so patient with Ender never pushing but always within reach when Ender needed him. I could not have fallen in love with their story anymore than I have.
Haleigh, you absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. And I need Connor's story ASAP, pretty please 🙏 😁🩷

This is a beautifully painful and ultimately hopeful story that delves deep into the scars of past trauma and the hesitant, fragile process of learning to accept love.

The story is told through the alternating perspectives of Ender and Gabe. Ender is a character who will immediately break your heart. Having grown up in a neglectful and abusive home, he’s learned to rely only on himself, viewing himself as a burden and struggling to accept the help and love his friends freely offer. His internal monologue is a raw and honest portrayal of someone grappling with deep-seated pain and self-loathing. Gabe, on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air. His life is finally coming together, and when he meets Ender, he sees past the walls and the pain to the "someone worthy" underneath. He is patient, caring, and determined, even when Ender’s fears push him away.

Their dynamic is the core of this book. The author does a fantastic job of building their connection slowly, from adorable, awkward texts to sizzling chemistry. It’s a delicate dance—Ender, terrified of vulnerability, and Gabe, a self-proclaimed man-whore who finds himself wanting something serious for the first time. The push-and-pull is emotionally taxing in the best way, making every small step forward feel like a monumental victory.

What I appreciated most was the realistic portrayal of healing. Ender’s journey isn't linear. He shuts down, misinterprets situations, and struggles with his worth, making his eventual breakthroughs all the more powerful and earned. The supporting cast, especially Ender’s best friends and Gabe’s wonderfully accepting family, add layers of warmth and humor to balance the heavier themes.

While the emotional and physical chemistry between Ender and Gabe is fiery, the true heart of this story is in its quiet moments: a comforting presence during a breakdown, a patient ear listening to a painful past, and the simple, profound act of being called "boyfriend" for the first time. This is a solid 4-star read for me, a compelling and cathartic story about finding the courage to let someone see your scars and believing them when they say you are still worthy of love. I’ll be thinking about Ender and Gabe for a long time.

Going to be the outlier in the reviews but this was hard to get through for me.

Trust that I really liked the premise, and the story did start off strong. I resonated a lot with Ender's character and the things he’s been through, I wanted him to find his happiness and was prepared for an emotional journey. But that was just not what this books was.

It was somewhere around the 40-50% point that things really began to falter for me. The story as a whole became more sex centric, the fights/arguments felt melodramatic, and the relationship Ender has with his friends was superficial at best in my opinion. It felt like the author was basically going “look readers! See how they’re so close, and have funny inside jokes, and know each other so well,” but none of that actually translated for me. It just felt very surface level, if not a bit over the top. Same with Luke and Gabe, you’re often told how close they are but it just doesn’t show well at all.

But that all aside — the romance also felt pretty one dimensional, there was virtually no emotional build up. They slept together a handful of times and then suddenly are in love and having their first quasi-break up and fight. Again I know I'm beating a dead horse, but it truly felt like the author wanted me to believe their connection existed more than it actually did.

It started really dragging the last 50 or so pages, that was when I truly started debating if I wanted to DNF or not. And to be honest that sex club scene is one of the last few chapters probably would have had me throwing in the towel if I wasn’t like 10 pages from finishing.

This book was a well oiled machine of emotional scenes, beautiful friendships, found family, soft touches that heals, beautiful moments and conversations and a fire burning passion.

✎Gabe and Ender were just two people meant to find each other and love each other.Ender had a difficult childhood, his parents failed him and he has the emotional scars as a daily reminder of his past. His past trauma left him with doubts about his own worth, and those doubts turns to voices that keeps telling him no one would truly love and care for him and that lead to him not persuing any type of meaningful or romantic relationship. But he finally tuned out those voices and finally let someone in and it was such a beautiful thing to witness/read about.

✎Gabe is the definition of a perfect man,if that’s is even possible,he patient, indulging, kind, sweet, caring and pays attention. He was persistent with his persuit of Ender and yet never crossed the threshold of creepy.Ender tried so many times to push him away but Gabe never stopped trying to show him that he was worth the risk, patient and love and his show of care and persistence started to crack the wall around Ender’s heart and when Gabe walk through that wall,he handled Ender’s love and heart with care and love.

✎Sometimes all you need is that one persistent person, who is ready to show you that you are worthy of love, care, compassion, kindness and respect for you to let go and be vulnerable with them.

Wow. This book hit me in all the feels. Ender and Gabe’s story had me pacing around my room, whispering “okay but… what’s going to happen??” and then staying up way past 12am just to see it through.

What I loved:

- Ender is quietly broken and guarded, and the way Gabe sees him? Gorgeous. Feels like the kind of look you hope someone gives you one day.

- Gabe isn’t perfect (thankfully), but he’s steady and real. Their dynamic is messy, hopeful, tense — a nice mix.

- The setting: We’ve got stolen glances, one-night things that turn into bigger, deeper things, and internal battles from both sides.

- The emotional tension is chef’s kiss. Ender’s past, his walls, the way Gabe tries to get through them — it works.

A few things to keep in mind:

This isn’t a breezy rom-com. There’s pain, self-loathing, guarded hearts. If you want something light and fluffy, this may feel heavier than expected.

Because both protagonists carry heavy baggage, there are moments where emotions randomly explode — which I liked, but it might feel chaotic for some.

If you’re into an emotionally rich and romantic read with depth (and a few tears), this is a win. The “I should walk away but I can’t” vibe is real, and the payoff felt worth it. Ender and Gabe marched right into my heart.

I’ll definitely be recommending this one to friends who ask, “Got any good MM romances that feel?” Because yes — this one feels.

Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Between Lifelines & Undying Embers (BLUE) is book 2 of Haleigh Falcon’s The Charlotte Socials. We met Ender in book 1 Just Is Not Enough (JUNE) and I loved Ender before he ever got his own story. I highly recommend reading JINE before diving into BLUE as there is crossover story with interconnected characters.

Ender has some past trauma that he’s dealing with, voices that get in his head and make him question why anyone would love him. It’s those doubting thoughts that stop him from pursuing any kind of relationship with anyone, or even believing anyone would want him. Watching Ender slowly open up, let his walls down, and allow himself to let someone love him the way he deserves was beautifully written.

Then we have Gabe. Sweet, patient, swoony Gabe. This man could have given up on Ender at any point, decided he was too much work, which is exactly what Ender was expecting. However Gabe keeps coming back, he keeps showing up, and no matter what Ender does to try and push him away, Gabe doesn’t give up. This man has the patience of a saint showing Ender how worthy he truly is. Talk about melting my heart.

Sometimes I get so caught up in reading dark romances I forget how sweet a green flag MC can really be. The emotions and vulnerability through this book was pure romance of choosing love over fear. A huge thank you to Haleigh Falcon for the privilege of having me on her team and allowing me to be a part Gabe & Enders story.

Between Lifeline & Undying Embers (or as we affectionately call it, BLUE) was everything I hoped for in the second installment of the Charlotte Socials series!

Haleigh Falcon absolutely delivered with the story Ender and Gabe deserved — our two favorite besties from the first series (Gabe being Luke’s, and Ender being Kaden’s). We got a sneak peek at their spark before, and this book gives it the spotlight it deserves!

BLUE offers alternative points of view on some of the events from Just Is Not Enough, while also diving into Ender’s origin story, exploring his dynamic with Kaden in more depth, and letting us truly get to know Gabe beyond being Luke’s best friend and business partner.

Not only were the deep feels there — the hurt and comfort I adore — but the spice was chef’s kiss!

I highly recommend grabbing a copy! And if you haven’t read book one yet, add both to your TBR immediately. I’m already excited for book three! 😍

Second in the Charlotte Socials series, BLUE will make you laugh, cry, and feel all the feels. Haleigh Falcon just writes the best green flag guys. The way Gabe cares for Ender and continues to show up when Ender runs is everything. Ender’s character development and growth is truly beautiful to read.

Found family is a favorite of mine and this series really has some of the best found family. You just have to read for yourself to see! I loved seeing the whole crew again.

I love that this series will have MM, MF, and MMF!

While this can be read as a standalone, I personally think it’s best read in series order. A few minor side characters from JINE are mentioned in BLUE with no real explanation of who they are.

Listen. I went into this book expecting some light heartbreak and maybe a few “aww” moments… and suddenly I’m crying over Ender like he’s my emotionally damaged son. 😭

The backstory? Gut punch. The character growth? Chef’s kiss. 👨‍🍳💋 Ender was flawed but so real, and Gabe? Oh, Gabe. My golden retriever in human form, my emotional support knight in shining armor. 🛡️🐶

And don’t even get me started on the found family vibes — every time someone new joined, my heart grew three sizes. Then came Gabe’s mom, Layla… that woman deserves everything good in this world!

Yes, there are some heavy topics, but they were handled beautifully. And honestly, how Ender finally chose to handle his family just made me love him more.

It’s only book two in the series but I honestly have no idea how Haleigh is gonna top this one!

sweet with a side of emotional

4.25 stars 3 spice

I knew this book would be different than the first one, just based on what I already knew of Gabe and Ender. But I absolutely fell in love with these two. Gabe is such a sweet man and the way he just loves on Ender, even from the beginning. Ender is much more reserved thanks to his past and even though he’s had good support system later in life, he’s still very protective of who he let’s into his life. I really enjoyed watching Gabe be patient with Ender and working his way into his life.

As much as Ender wanted to fight it, he really couldn’t as these two had so much chemistry. Gabe would seriously do anything for this man, even if Ender was a little bratty at times. Seeing how their relationship grew was amazing, even if Ender had many doubts.

This was also a very enjoyable read and the spice was spicing – a little exhibitionism anyone?! Yes please! I cannot wait to continue reading this series and keeping up with these characters! Is there a Austin, Kelsey, Conner book coming??!?

Finally Ender and Gabe's story!
Honestly I've been wanting to read Ender's story since book 1. I can't say no to a broken but sweet guy and Ender is the epitome of someone you want to hug and protect.
*Must protecc precious boii* 🫶🏻

I can't thank Haleigh enough for giving me an opportunity to get an ARC, was lucky to read it before the release and I swear I binged it in one go, screw sleeping at all 😂 who needs it?

I do wish we got a longer novel bec I loved them. It was so fun seeing their friendship and relationship blossom. Gabe was so patient with Ender that you felt how much he really cared for him.
It was also soo hot and fun to see them discover what they like in the spice department. Honestly, the spice was hot! Didn't expect Ender to be open to try some stuff but wow! 🌶️💦

How do I go about explaining how amazing Gabe & Ender are…I don’t have enough words. Gabe is the name beside the definition of green flag and I don’t know if anyone can ever outdo him. He’s just loving, protective, and a down right dirty talker. He’s the perfect match for Ender. Ender is our touch starved, broken boy who deserves all the love. He’s the sweetest and pushes Gabe without even trying to. His internal conflict through the story ripped me to shreds and had me wanting to wrap him up in my arms. Gabe & Ender are beautiful together.

My emotions went on a roller coaster ride through this entire book. I was laughing, crying, needing a bucket of water to cool myself down, and running through the house. I was all over the place. It was so freaking good. I need to read it again, like now! Haleigh truly hit it out of the park and I need everyone to go and get a copy!

Ender has enough emotional baggage to deter any relationship. Gabe is the force that wants to carry it all.

This book continues from Just Is Not Enough Charlotte Series. Ender is Kaden’s best friend. Gabe is Luke’s best friend. Ender has a traumatic past that makes him question and doubt an ongoing romantic relationship. Gabe has always been the habitable bachelor never wanting more than one night. Gabe fights to make Ender understand his self worth. This story is emotional and heart wrenching.

There are triggers, so make sure you read them in the beginning.

Another beautifully written book by Haleigh Falcon. This story had me feeling all the feels & i truly felt emotional after I finished it.
Sweet Ender,I just wanted to hug him so much & let him know he deserved love.He was too precious.
And Gabe, wow everyone deserves to be loved like he loved Ender...unconditionally.
I'd be shocked if anyone who never got closure on childhood trauma, no matter how big or small could walk away from this book not feeling some kind of connection to Ender.I think he truly spoke to all of us who never got the closure we deserved.
Apart from the emotional depth of this story there were plenty of laughs, lots of Luke & Kaden to make you smile, plenty of spice & an all round beautiful story.
On a side note, I need Connors book like yesterday!

A longing look at a delightfully sensual experience you'll never want to end!!!😍😍😏

Astoundingly beautiful! From first to last words. I absolutely fell in love with Ender and Gabe. The fiery passion exploding off the pages will leave you breathless. Worlds colliding have nothing on these two! The emotions that Haleigh Falcon draws out of her MC's, therefore out of her readers is delicious. Ender and Gabe!! I loved reading their story unfold as Ender let his walls fall down. Gabe was so endlessly patient and kind. Why are there not more men like Gabe in the world? It felt so perfectly paced, like the information being revealed in tiny bits appeared at just the right points in the story to keep it going and keep it interesting. I couldn’t help but fly through this book and still want more. Amazing.

“Not everyone leaves, Ender."

I was SOBBING. Ender's entire childhood was devastating. I love how Gabe cherished that sweet man. I love how Kaden also proved to Ender that he was lovable. BLUE destroyed me. I'm still an emotional wreck over it.

“Ender, you didn’t do any of this to yourself. None of what happened to you was your fault.” He forces me to turn and look at him. “You didn’t deserve it. Those was their issues…His fault.”

COME ON! 😭😭😭😭😭

I loved the first book so much and this one was just as good! I love how hard Gabe found for Ender. And the random chapter thrown in there with the moms was beautiful. It showed us reader that Ender does have a mama that will always look out for him. I really hope Connor’s story is coming out next. I wonder who will be able to put up with all that energy… Austin? Maybe?

Oof! What a punch to the heart! 💙 In a good way, though, since sweet baby Ender and green-flag Gabe get the HEA they deserve! 🥹 Just like with JINE, Haleigh has de-live-erd!

Haleigh has done it again, this was such a cute, heartfelt book. My heart was breaking for Ender from the very beginning & I am so happy that he found his person in Gabe. I flew through this book, Gabe was such a green flag & always just wanted to make Ender feel comfortable & seen & always wanted to be there for him. Oh and let’s for forget that the spice was spicing & the sex club scene!

Sweet Ender how I just want to hug your neck and let you know you are enough!

Gabe Mr no relationship didn’t know what he had coming at him with Ender.

This book was just so good. Haleigh put her heart in this book and you can tell. I loved it, I was laughing one minute crying another, just my type of book.

I recommend this book!

This book was an absolutely beautiful emotional journey with Ender and Gabe. I loved getting to read Ender’s story and seeing his happy ending has been the absolute cherry for me. This is definitely a book I wish I could go back and read for the first time again!!
