After reading the first 2 in the series I of course jumped at the chance to read this story by Kiley.
Euan is back in town, self employed and most definitely mortified after his first job goes disastrously wrong which could threaten his fledgling electrician business.
Peaches is a gifted fashion student on the brink of her showcase who can’t have any distractions which her controlling mom helps with.
But when a crisis happens euan and peaches are thrown together, a spark is ignited..
Meanwhile Roz is left wondering if her marriage is in trouble when her husband is keeping secrets and wondering what comes next?
As the town prepares for its wild and wonderful spring celebrations can Peaches, Euan, Roz and her husband find the courage to let sparks fly
Another fantastic read by Kiley. I really enjoyed reading this and catching up with all the characters in the previous books. The repair shop is still going strong and I really hope we see more from the repair shop book series.
Thanks to Kiley, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for letting me read this in exchange for a honest review
Another lovely instalment in the Highland Repair Shop series. Now if you haven’t read the others, don’t worry, you can read this as a stand alone, however! I would certainly recommend going back and reading the first two books as they are really good too!
If you have read the other books, you will see familiar characters return, some in smaller rolls others (Roz and McIntyre) taking on more central rolls. Cute Jolyon and Shell return as well and are up to move mischief than before!
I love the theming around Beltane and learnt a lot about this Scottish Tradition.
The characters are all brilliantly developed and some may well surprise you by the end of the story. I enjoyed getting to know Peaches better, although at times I did want to remind her she is now a young woman and not still a child under her mums constant command.
The last few chapters were especially hard to put down and I must admit one chapter with cheeky Jolyon in may have brought a few tears (happy ones!!)
So this is a lovely easy read, full of lovable characters, beautiful scenery and a community you will want to be a part of.
If you are feeling a little jaded, battered by life and in need of repair, the place to go is the Highland Repair Shop in the lovely , slightly remote town of Cairn Dhu in the Scottish Highlands, just as the month of April is ending and celebrations are afoot for Beltane or Walpurgisnacht or Saint Walpurga’s night, depending on how you consider these things deeply mystical. Young Euan Sparks has returned to town, a newly minted Electrician, to help care for his granddad Clyde Forte, but finds himself in trouble with this first contract as an electrician, something he fears he will never live down in this small town. Peaches McDowell is working long hours finishing off her collection of garments made from recycled material. Her friend and model for the catwalk section of her Master’s Degree has fallen ill leaving her in a terrible fix. She has a preview of the garments that night, when in walks Euan to the Highland Repair Shop, who she considers is the answer to her problem. One look at Peaches sees Euan captivated, and vice versa but Peaches mother Carenza thinks otherwise, as she has plans already in place for the Beltane celebration which don’t include Euan. But all is not well in the McIntyre home as Roz is facing empty nest syndrome, McIntyre is behaving in a decidedly strange manner and to Roz, nothing in her world is right. It is their wedding anniversary coming up and with McIntyre behaving as if he may be having an affair, she is devastated. As the days race past to the end of the month a freak storm almost derails Peaches catwalk plans, Euan comes to the rescue and well without saying too much more Peaches decides she simply must talk with her mother about her obsessive behavior, as she is twenty three years old and needs to be able to make her own decisions. As you are enfolded carefully and lovingly into the world of Cairn Dhu you become involved in the life of the town as everyone, including the dour Gifford sisters, is out to make sure this Walpurgisnacht is the best, despite Carenza’s efforts to make it a tame and mild affair over by 9pm. Making Sparks Fly at the Highland Repair Shop is a stand-alone story but also part of the delightful, enchanting and somewhat mystical Highland Repair Shop series which is woven together with charm and naturally, magic, which delivers the perfect antidote when you need a little pickup and a huge, warm, hug courtesy of Kiley Dunbar.
In Making Sparks Fly at the Highland Repair Shop, we meet young Euan Sparks and get to know Peaches better. Both have been brought up by single mother’s one overbearing who watches and tries to curate every step her daughter makes the other happily sending him off to build a new life in Cairn Dhu with his Granddad. When they meet Sparks do fly but of course there are many obstacles that get in the way of them actually getting together.
It is also Roz’s story. Her nest has emptied the children both happy and Murray is not far away but she is feeling restless. Mac is busier than ever and barely around. She is looking to find something that gives her purpose further to her work in the Repair Shop and Garden. In the meantime, wee Jolyon is thriving under the wing of his wee pal Shell and their friends at the Community Garden. He going to start school after Summer and his mother is worried. Roz a former teacher, is fully aware of the challenges ahead for him and her rapport with him sets her mind in motion.
The whole story is set around the May Day celebrations and is full of delightful Highland traditions that occur on Walpurgisnacht (last day of April) and May Day. I loved reading about these traditions which slotted beautifully into the context of the story. The Cairn Dhu community is full of delightful, interesting, lovable and solid characters that you can just imagine being right at the centre of any celebrations or disasters.
The characters, despite their foibles and individuality are all quite relatable. Having a more mature woman, like Roz take the lead is something I find really refreshing as the journey that some go through when they meet a crossroads in life can be a lonely one, Roz, proves that the thoughts and feelings are valid. It is also refreshing to read a story that is full of love and understanding for young children with additional needs, that also explores the emotions of those around them. Kiley pours so much into the characters and setting making it seem so comforting, with the support of the amazing community there it makes me feel like I am part of it all too. An excellent read. Thank you Kiley.
Thanks to @netgalley @kileydunbar and @boldwoodbooks for the ARC in return for my honest review.
After reading the first two books in this series, I of course jumped at the chance to return to the Highland Repair Shop—and this one absolutely delivered! It’s another warm, cozy, and heartwarming installment that pulled me right back into this charming community.
The story follows Euan Sparks, who’s newly back in town and trying to make a go of his self-employed electrician business—only for his first job to go disastrously wrong in a way that threatens everything. Enter Peaches McDowell, a talented fashion student on the brink of her showcase, determined to avoid distractions (with a little help from her very controlling mother). But when a crisis throws them together, sparks begin to fly in the sweetest, most natural way.
Euan and Peaches are such a lovely pairing. Euan is endearing and easy to root for, especially as he navigates setbacks and tries to rebuild his confidence. Peaches, meanwhile, is layered and relatable, balancing ambition with the pressure of expectations placed on her. Their relationship builds with a gentle, slow-burn energy that feels authentic, full of tender moments and quiet growth.
Alongside their story, we also follow Roz, who begins to question her marriage as her husband’s secrecy creates distance and uncertainty. I really appreciated this added layer—it brings depth to the story and shows that love and change aren’t limited to just one stage of life.
The Highland setting continues to shine, with the town preparing for its wild and wonderful spring celebrations. The repair shop once again feels like the heart of it all—a place where not just objects, but people and relationships are mended. The sense of community, familiar faces, and small-town charm makes this series so special.
Blending romance, second chances, and personal growth, this is another heartfelt, feel-good read that left me smiling. I truly hope we get more from the Highland Repair Shop series—I’m not ready to leave just yet!
Making Sparks Fly at the Highland Repair Shop is one of those stories that feels like stepping into a small Scottish village where the air is crisp, the bonfires crackle, and everyone’s life is quietly shifting in ways they didn’t expect. Cairn Dhu has such a comforting charm, and the repair shop itself remains the heart of it all—a place where broken things, and broken people, find their way back to wholeness.
Euan Sparks is instantly endearing, returning home with a new business, a bruised ego, and a determination to prove he belongs. There’s something so relatable about his mix of hope and embarrassment, and the novel treats him with such warmth. Peaches McDowell, meanwhile, is all sharp edges and soft vulnerabilities—ambitious, talented, and tightly bound by her mother’s expectations. Watching her collide with Euan in the middle of a crisis is delightful; their spark feels natural, unforced, and threaded with that tentative sweetness of two people who don’t quite realise how much they need each other.
Roz’s storyline adds a beautiful depth to the novel. Her marriage, her empty nest, her quiet ache for something more—there’s a tenderness to her chapters that balances the younger romance perfectly. It’s lovely to see a character at her stage of life treated with such care and complexity. As Beltane approaches, the whole village seems to hum with anticipation. The celebrations, the bonfires, the sense of renewal—they give the story a magical, earthy glow. And through it all, the characters are gently nudged toward courage: to choose love, to choose honesty, to choose themselves.
Heartfelt, uplifting, and full of Highland charm, Making Sparks Fly at the Highland Repair Shop is a warm reminder that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is let yourself begin again.
With thanks to Kiley Dunbar, the publisher and netgalley for the ARC
Beltane drama for four smalltown folk & the town bully🔥
4-4.5🌟 stars A long-time married couple and a young couple face trying times and I like the way they were resolved and all tied into the town's preparation for and celebration of Beltane and the First of May. But I liked the two previous books in the series a bit more and maybe a bit much of the story focused on the festival prep details.
Poor empty nester Roz does not know what's happening with her husband and I thought the mystery dragged out and then pop, bang, it was solved all of a sudden and was less interesting than I had hoped.
As to young Euan Sparks and Peaches McDowell, theirs was a story that had meat, obvious obstacles, a bit of mystery but, to me, more sympathetic and I could have liked more on their romance dilemma and Euan's apparent estrangement from his Glasgow family, less with the older couple. Giving the newly qualified electrician (colloquially known as a sparky) the last name Sparks was a cute idea. And his opening gaffe with the school's electrical box really set him up as a down and out guy who deserved our sympathy.
The side characters in this cozy highland town make up a good part of the charm. Most are back from earlier novels in the series. If you remember them, fine, but the story works well as a standalone, too. I think good buddies Jolyon and Shel, the two children mentioned most often, have a great backstory that you would pick up from the earlier books.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Was so good to be back at the Highland Repair shop and this fabulous cast of characters.
Roz is in the spotlight this time, and she is feeling unseen by her husband while trying to work out her next step in life now her kids are definitely flown the coop.
And our other leading character is Peaches, who is getting ready for her fashion showcase. She's very interesting especially in her dynamics with her mother, who is a force to be reckoned with.
We also have Euan who is trying to set up a new electrician business, but makes a silly mistake on his first ever job and in a place this small, that really affects his reputation.
But when Euan and Peaches meet, there is something so sweet and innocent, but also heart-warmingly satisfying as it starts to make Peaches wonder about parts of her mother's iron rule!
I was also happy to see more of Jolyon who really did capture my heart in the previous book and I'm waiting and hoping his family will be main characters in a future book of this series. In fact I'm hoping there will be more books generally in this series as I'm enjoying it so much.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
In the latest book in the Highland Repair Shop series, readers follow Euan Sparks, a self-employed electrician back in his home town, and Peaches McDowell, a gifted fashion student approaching her Master’s showcase and still under her strict mother’s eye. After a crisis throws them together at the repair show, they have to see where romance fits in their plans. Roz McIntyre, the wife of the shop’s founder, is also at a turning point in her marriage with an empty nest, and as Beltane approaches, the two couples have to find their bravery and let sparks fly for a happy ending. The characters are well-written and have great chemistry, while the alternating perspectives allow the story to develop in some really interesting ways. The emotional beats are great and engage readers with the story, while the tropes and archetypes bring the village and community to life. The tension between Peaches and her mom adds relatable depth to the narrative, and Euan’s struggles to fit in with the town will be relatable to readers who have moved homes. Cozy, romantic, and whimsical, readers will love this charming new romance novel from Kiley Dunbar and the changes to and growth of the Highland Repair Shop.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the advance copy.
Kiley Dunbar has written another cracker of a story here, set in Cairn Dun, where the Highland Repair Shop is still going strong, and brings with it an unlikely situationship between two youngsters, and a little suspicion and angst between our main older characters, McIntyre and Ros, the owners of this fab repair shop. I loved the relative innocence of Peaches, a young woman who has been sheltered from so much by an overprotective mother who really only wants the best for her baby. Tie that in with the budding romance between her and Euan Sparks, a local lad who has returned to live with his grandfather, and the gentle sparks that fly there, and it makes for a lovely, slow-burning romance. And the escapades of Jolyn and Shelly were a fun, brief interlude. I also love how Kiley has added the SEND dimension through the story, with lil Jolyn, who has communication issues. As we were introduced to him in a previous book, it was great to get a little update on how he was getting on. We get to learn about some of the April traditions and celebrations, and we're treated to some recipes from Kiley at the end.
This is the third book in the Highland Repair Shop series, although it can be read as a standalone. This time the main characters are Euan, who has moved in with his grandfather and hoping to start his own business as an electrician, and Peaches, a gifted fashion student about to present her collection for her Master's showcase. An unlikely pair their story is complicated by flooded school kitchens and an overbearing mother. Again I enjoy reading series, where you have the background that you know and enjoy but with new characters and their stories to tell. It is many years since I have visited Scotland, but this series does make me want to visit again for the fantastic scenery. There is also the supportive local community, with background stories adding to the overall theme, plus an introduction to the Scottish tradition of Beltane, which although I have heard a bit about it's also brought to life. A sweet story of the type that I really enjoy, full of hope despite troubles in the way. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
A cosy, comforting read that feels like a gentle escape to the Highlands This was a lovely, easy read that felt like curling up somewhere peaceful and simply enjoying the moment. There is a real charm to the setting, with the Highland backdrop adding a soft, scenic atmosphere that carries the story along. It is very much a cosy read, one that leans into warmth and comfort rather than high drama or intense twists. While it may not have lots of standout moments or big surprises, there is something quietly enjoyable about spending time in this world and with its characters. The story unfolds at a gentle pace, making it perfect for when you want something relaxing and uplifting without needing too much emotional investment. It has that familiar feel of a small community, with connections and relationships forming in a natural and easy way. Making Sparks Fly at the Highland Repair Shop by Kiley Dunbar is a pleasant and cosy read, ideal for those moments when you just want to switch off and enjoy a simple, feel-good story. My thanks go to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC of this book.
The third book in the series and I still haven’t read the first, only the second and this one
We go back to the Highlands to join Euan, Roz, Peaches and the rest of the community.
A story full of love, romance, laughter, a tight knit community in that beautiful, picturesque setting of the Highlands, Cairn Dhu. It was lovely to see everything and everyone come together at the Spring Festival and but when Peaches and Euan are thrown together in the repair shop and with Euan as a newly qualified electrician, can sparks really fly!!
Such a lovely, heartwarming story and it was great to feel like you were back among old friends. Kiley has such a wonderful way of writing combined with the contrast of characters it kind of feels like coming home
A perfect cosy read for lovers of small town romance, uplifting with just the right amount of Highland Charm
Thanks to Netgalley and the author for an early arc copy
I loved the first book in this series, missed out on reading the second - and can absolutely confirm that this third book is 100% readable (and very enjoyable indeed) as a standalone. Poor Euan is dogged by disaster as he tries to make his mark as the local electrician, and Peaches' overbearing mother is very much in the way of the romance he'd love to happen. But he's on the spot when needed, saving the day in dramatic fashion - although there are still a few stumbling blocks to that much hoped for happy outcome. A wonderful community too, filled with quirky and likeable characters - and the second storyline, involving Ron and Mac, was more than a touch worrying at first, but with a totally delightful (and really uplifting) outcome. Add in the repair shop itself, the special events, the spectacular scenery and a touch of well-explained Scots dialect - this was a book I thoroughly enjoyed, and I think you might too.
It was so incredibly lovely to be back in Cairn Dhu, with some familiar and some new characters.
I love that Peaches had a big part in this book, I liked her from the first book and it was nice to get to know her better. To see her struggle with her relationship with her mum and to watch her grow and develop. Euan is an absolute sweetheart and I felt so bad for him at times. It seems like he hasn't had the easiest of lives and it was sad to see him struggling still. Seeing the relationship between these two characters start and bloom was heartwarming.
And poor Roz, feeling so lonely and scared to see her marriage fail. Always thinking about others first instead of herself. A real mum, struggling with an empty nest and her own role that's starting to change. I am glad with how everything turned out, she definitely deserved her happy ending.
I like to thank Netgalley and Kiley Dunbar for sending me the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is another great addition to the "Highland Repair Shop" series, and all the regulars are back as well.
Peaches is a creative young woman, who works with textiles. She also does some work at the highland repair shop, when she can get away from her mother, who is incredibly overbearing.
Meanwhile, Euan is doing his best to start a small business of his own which isn't getting off to the best of starts.....
And then there is Roz, whose husband is the heart and soul of the repair shop. She loves him but lately he has been distant and she is starting to wonder if there is another woman in his life :(
These three main characters are terrific and I really liked spending time with them, as well as the secondary characters who were also in the previous books.
All in all, this is a lovely, romantic story and I loved the setting, as always :)
I absolutely loved the story of Euan (Sparks) and Peaches. It was so lovely returning to Cairn Dhu and catching up with all the familiar, much-loved characters. Watching Peaches grow in confidence and finally stand up for herself was genuinely heartwarming - especially when dealing with overbearing parents!
This can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone, but if you haven’t read the earlier books, I’d really recommend them too.
The side story featuring Roz and Mac added another layer of charm. A gentle reminder: honesty really is the best policy in relationships - misunderstandings are bound to happen otherwise!
Overall, a cosy, uplifting read with a strong sense of community at its heart. I’ve heard there’s a book 4 on the way, and I’m already looking forward to it 📚
Huge thanks to @netgalley and @boldwoodbooks for the early copy in exchange for an honest review 💫
I loved this. It was great to be back with familiar faces and new ones.
Peaches was a great character, and I found her easy to identify and empathise with, both as a parent and a child. It’s so hard to know when love turns to too much, her mum loved her and didn’t realise how it was controlling and holding her back. Peaches was so brave to stand up for herself and still manage to salvage her relationship with Euan and her mum.
I also loved the love story of Roz and Mac. It’s great to see older couples represented, when the best is empty it can be a confusing and upsetting time, you almost have to learn how to be a couple again. Some of Roz’s feelings I could identify with. Seeing the thought and effort Mav put in was touching too.
I love this series and I can’t wait for more, the whole Beltane festival was great and very atmospheric.
I really enjoyed this third book in the series. I love the sustainability idea behind the creation of the Highland Repair Shop in Cairn Dhu (and yes, I fully embrace the "can do" pun, even if I don't speak with a Scottish accent!).
Reading the story of Peaches and Euan is really just so sweet, in a good way. The McIntyres' story is also really touching and hits me in a certain way, since I'm the same age as Roz is in this story. Their story encourages us older marrieds to communicate better than we tend to do when we've been married for decades and find ourselves in an empty nest. In other words, we can get lazy. We need to stop that!
A good third book in the series. I read book 2 last fall, and just started book 1 after finishing this one. Holiday book 4 looks to be on its way later this year and I've already preordered it!
Another beautiful story in the mountain side Scottish village. This book was different in that we watched 4 generations of characters’ life’s. Roz and elder reassess her life as she struggles with a loss of direction as her grown children leave home, Carenza who is lost driving her to control everyone and everything, Peaches who is a passive young woman who is being held back from living her best life and young Jolly who’s overcoming his social and developmental delays to life a full life.
Within the beautiful setting, which you can visualise with ease due to the author’s descriptions, we are settled in amongst the close knit community once again to follow their old customs, busy lives and heartwarming love stories.
Always a joy to read and I can’t wait to visit again soon.
I absolutely loved the first two books in the series so I was SO excited to be selected for the arc of this book!
I loved Peaches’ and Euan’s story and the development of Carenza’s character as for the first half of the book, I hated the woman! Euan deserved so much better than he received from her but I’m glad it worked out in the end.
My heart broke for Roz as her storyline developed through the story, but her story ended in such a lovely way. There was no way that Charlie would ever cheat on her - that woman is his only!
Feel good romance that will leave you wanting to travel to the Highlands to experience life there for yourself! Please give us more of this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kiley Dunbar for the ARC.
What is not to like with Kiley Dunbar - I loved her Borrow a Bookshop series and her Highland series is just as good. We meet again at book number 3 but as with all of her books this can be reads as a standalone.
We meet Euan who has moved in with his grandfather and his wish is to have his own electrician business. Then there is Peaches a fashion student ready to present her project collections for her Masters. This appears to be quite an unlikely couple.
What I love of her stories is things neer go to plan there is a twist in the tale, with a community to die for, wonderful scenery and great characters
Recommended and was published May 1st 2026. This will be a lovely summer read over the long holidays.
A young man struggling to prove himself in the professional world. A young woman living under the thumb of a manipulative and overprotective mother... What a sweet story Euan and Peaches have!
Euan really does everything he can to win Peaches over despite his deep lack of self-confidence. And Peaches reciprocates his feelings.
The ending is exactly what they both needed.
We're so happy to see all the residents of Cairn Dhu again. Kiley Dunbar is still the best at creating an atmosphere with a real village feel, showing care for everyone we've met since the beginning of the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly, thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
I have read the other books in this series, so had to read this one. It follows Euan Sparks, a newly qualified electrician, who has returned to his maternal home to live with his grandad, Peaches, a very talented fashion student who lives with her controlling mother. Sparks will fly!
We also follow Roz, who is feeling disheartened in life, her husband is acting strangely and she is feeling bored of her life.
It was lovely to still read about familiar characters from previous books, but I think you could still read this book as a stand alone.
Book 3 of 4 in the Highland Repair Shop Series, however every book in the Highland Repair Shop series can be read as a standalone.
The Highland Repair Shop is a place where anything can be fixed… from vintage radios and rusting bikes to hearts and lives. 🫶 ⭐⭐⭐⭐'Every new day has the potential to surprise you and sometimes it could go alright, actually'. Sums up the stories and lives of the characters in this book. A lovely story with lots of Scottish isms thrown in while you learn about the lives of the characters and how they all fit together to make this community. Some people don't always get it right but they can still learn and try to make it right in the end. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lovely sequel and catch-up with the repair shop gang. Lovely to read more of their lives and friendships and to see them up to more fun. It was lovely to read how Peaches was finding her feet and growing as a human and to see why Carenza is the way she is. This had some serious subjects at the heart of it and they were all handled very sensitively and carefully. It was light hearted but with depth. There is a lot of love in these books and they are warm and captivating. I loved seeing the scenery and you can almost smell the Heather and taste the rum balls. Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Its leading up to Beltane festivities and the village are once again being told what to do by Carenza. Euan Sparks is a newly qualified electrician and seems to leave a trail of destruction behind him. Roz McIntyre feels that her husband has become more distracted than usual and worries he's having an affair. Peaches McDowell is preparing for her college fashion showcase under the scrutiny of her mother. Will the festivities cause seismic changes for them all? Only the Elders know. A fun read.
Making Sparks Fly at the Highland Repair Shop is the third book in the Highland Repair Shop series and it is as good as the first two. I am so glad I have read this entire series, but you can read each one as standalone. Once you have read one you will want to read all of others. This book gives you Euan and Peaches. Each of these have lives and a story that pulled me close to them both. I could feel the connection, and it felt good to see what happens to these two. Thank you NetGalley, Kiley Dunbar and Boldwood Books for the copy of this book. This is my personal review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books Ltd for a digital ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved reading this story. It is the first of Kiley Dunbar’s books I have read, and I am excited to read the others.
What I loved most about this story was the fact that there were more than one character’s POV. My favourite characters were definitely Euan and Peaches, but in saying that, there wasn’t a character I disliked! It was great that I was able to read this as a standalone without having read the other books but I now can’t wait to read more! 🙂
This book takes you to the Highlands and traditions. Great to be part of regular characters lives and meet new characters or find out more about original characters. Romance, friendships and traditions explored. Can't wait for the next book.
