She calls it a deadline. He calls it a date.Rule #1: Do the work.Rule #2: Don’t fall for your partner.Rule #3: Seriously. STOP. FALLING. FOR. YOUR. PARTNER.Easier said than done. When Eliza Parker’s economics teacher announces the semester project, she can hardly believe her luck—her crush, Jesse Evans, ends up in her group. Years of wishing on birthday candles, 11:11 clocks, and stray eyelashes have finally paid off. Unfortunately, so has karma. Because the third member of their team is Juan Sanchez. Artist. Smart-aleck. Self-appointed Love Guru. He’s more interested in mocking her crush strategy than making PowerPoint slides, and way too good at sidetracking Eliza’s carefully rehearsed plans. But somewhere between late-night brainstorming, a fictional country named Economnomnomia, and the sketches Juan keeps trying to hide, Eliza realizes Jesse might not be the one keeping her up at night anymore. Sometimes the hardest part of senior year isn’t following the rules—it’s breaking the right ones.
Hilarious and heart-melting, this Dryden High romance by Randi Rigby delivers sharp banter, a crush that complicates everything, and a slow burn that refuses to stay in the background. Perfect for fans of Kasie West and Jenn Bennett.
Randi Rigby has an amazing way of writing angsty high school drama. This series is so entertaining, and fun for tweens to adults.
High school senior Eliza Parker has had a crush on Jesse Evans for two years and it seems he barely knows she’s alive. At the beginning of their senior year this is Eliza’s last hope that Jesse will finally notice her. Then their Economics teacher announces their senior project and divides the students into groups of three and Eliza finds her senior year suddenly spinning out of control.
While Jesse, Eliza, and Juan begin work on their project, Jesse struggles with issues at home, violinist Eliza is preparing to perform before conservatory judges from some of the highest ranking colleges in the nation, and Juan faces an uncertain future not just as a student at Dryden High but also regarding a dream for his future he has never shared with anyone.
With teenage emotions running high, these three students will have to pull together to make the best of what life keeps throwing at them while also learning that the one person they’ve assumed was their true love may have been right in front of them the whole time.
I received an advance copy of this book and freely offer this review.
This took me forever to read for some reason, but I loved it! Eliza and Juan are amazing together and separately, and I love how much we got to see them as a couple (as opposed to admitting their feeling in the last chapter). Content: Very clean novel, ages 12+. Sexual content: Several kissing scenes, but minimal detail, and no sex. Language: None. LGBT content: None that I remember.
