"They dragged the assassin into the throne room at Indigolight."
Accused of a crime she didn't commit, Tarinne has one last chance at freedom. Find the princess of Kyvrael, and bring her back to the city to overthrow the power-hungry mage on the throne. Lucky for her, her old mentor Kyna is already there and training the princess for the fight to come. If only the future ruler of Kyvrael wasn't sixteen years old...
Meanwhile, Rylla is sick and tired of being away from home. First Wyndholde, and now she's the power-hungry mage's hostage in everything but name. He keeps her close as insurance to keep Tarinne in line, but he forgot one thing. As easy as it is for Rylla to heal, it's even easier for her to hurt. And it's especially easy to hurt the man who caused Tarinne so much pain.
That Flickering Light is the highly anticipated conclusion to the cozy fantasy trilogy of your dreams!
Avery Carter is an English teacher and walking art museum, covered in tattoos, ocean blue hair tied out of their face, and square, purple glasses. They proudly proclaim that they are the "coolest person you know" to their students, and spend each day trying to live up to that title. They are a nonbinary queer author living in South Korea with their wife and two dogs. They spend their days writing new stories, and teaching their students to love words as much as they do.
Awesome ending for the series, I will miss them so much. A lot of tension, growth and things getting even darker, while having that soft balance from previous books. I wish the last arc had a bit more development, but completely satisfying.
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of That Flickering Light! As always, all opinions are my own and this review is being left voluntarily.

I recommend if you enjoy… - The first two books! - Cozy romantasy - Touch her and die vibes but also… - … she isn’t a damsel in distress. - Queer-normative world - Political intrigue
Content warnings after review.
General thoughts… I was SO excited for this book. When I started this trilogy earlier this year, I was so eager for the next book… Then I was in luck when I found out ALL three books were coming out the same year!!
Some things I loved… - Tarinne… and the author is well aware that I’m obsessed with her. - This felt like such a satisfying conclusion to the series, and I really liked how everything played out (as well as came together) from the two previous books. - Each book has built upon the world building. As this is a cozy fantasy, the world building feels more subtle-y integrated to the book which I felt worked well. - Rylla is genuinely such a lovable character, and I like how that plays out within the book itself as well (even though as the reader, it’s always felt very clear). She’s so genuine, and I love how strong she is in ways other than her physicality (she has Tarinne for that, ha).
Some things to consider… - This is the last book in the series, so there aren’t any more coming out… but also this is a completed series so you can binge it! The books aren’t too long either, making them great for reading one after the other (no burnout from a series of books with 500+ pages each). - While this book is cozy by my definition, it definitely also has some darker themes. If you’re looking for pure fluff, this probably isn’t the right book.
Final thoughts… I am so sad in some ways to come to the end of this series, but I’m glad I was able to hop in from the start. What a great way to round out the year… I only hope that there will be more books/series set in this world in the future, as I’ve really come to enjoy it so much! Definitely recommend!

This was a terrific ending to the series! It dealt with some veryyyy big topics, but I think the author really matured in the writing of this. I loved all of the different queer representation and fell even more in love with both Rylla and Tarinne in this one 😍 a wonderful addition to my sapphic fantasy recs list
💕 The main reason this book took so long to review is that I loved it and I had too many thoughts! 💕 It’s so nice to read a trilogy where everything wraps up nicely, not that I have read many where it hasn’t, but there was something wonderfully cosy about this ending that made me emotional. It felt like the characters both needed and deserved the beautiful ending they got. 💕 There was still excitement and suspense throughout this book, especially following up on that nail-biting ending from Book 2!
💕 The Rendworld Trilogy deserves all your attention and more! Please go read it, Avery’s writing style is a delight to read.
