What if we could rewrite the past?
A secret organization sends its agents into history’s turning points to serve hidden interests.

On the brink of World War II and German occupation, Anne—a disillusioned operative—embarks on her final to save a boy marked for death in a small country soon to be overrun. The assignment seems simple—until she discovers that more than one life may be worth saving.

I like time-travel novels and I am a casual student of WWII, so Timeless by Anne Hart caught my eye. I liked this book. I like how plucky the protagonist, Anne Rielmann, is. As an agent of a company that sends people through time to accomplish goals of their client, she is an experienced time traveler and has many successful missions to her credit. A woman of the 21st century, her current mission it extract a young man, Markus Halmanis, from pre-Nazi occupied Slevadia to the United States so that when he wins the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, he is not a Soviet scientist, but an American one.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The premise of this story starts out good but I found the execution weak. It is never explained who the client is and why it is important for the scientist to be American at the time of the Nobel award. I mean, why this boy and not the others who have won from other countries. I would have liked a lot more info about the work Anne has done in the past to gauge the character of the organization that sponsors her. As I read, I began to feel like this was a story that was written without the time-travel element and it was added as an afterthought. The story was good, mind you, but I just didn't feel the tension that usually goes with time travel. There were a couple casual mentions of out of place aviator glasses and hats, but they didn't cause any problem. Mobile phones, however, were used and did cause an issue. The Nazi's captured one but could not figure out how to make it work so things got dangerous for Anne and her colleague. Frances. There is an excellent tension-filled rescue and escape toward the end.

Those plot points aside, I found the characters well written. Anne is smart and experienced; she knows what she's doing. And, we get to see her softer side at different points, like when she insists on rescuing Markus' family, not just him. Markus is pretty shallow, but that was what the character was, as well. His brother, Harald, is meatier and Anne seems to fall for him. The way the story ends leads me to think there might be a series involved. Maybe that's where some of my questions will be answered. Even with some of my disappointment, I can recommend this book.

Timeless by Anne Hart is an entertaining time-travel novel. Set in pre-WWII Europe, Anne Rielmann travels back in time to save a member of a prominent family living in a small country that is about to be overtaken by the Nazis. Anne is a savvy, experienced spy. She is sent into the past to rescue Markus Helmanis who will become an important chemist. Her mission becomes complicated when Anne meets Markus’ older brother.

Thanks to BookSirens, the publisher, and author for the opportunity to read and review this free ARC. I have given my review voluntarily and expressed my honest opinions. I was excited by the premise of the book and found it enjoyable. However, there were some issues with pacing. It got a little slow in the middle, but it did pick up in the last section of the book. I also would have liked a bit more character development. Overall, I think it is worth picking up.

An interesting twist for time travel. An organisation sends its agents to extract specific individuals during key moments in history, however some are sent for financial gain, while other agents quickly get burnout. Professionalism is key, but this time Anne falls for the brother of the target.
