Wie viel für die ganze Nacht

Rate this book

Time of death: 45%

Yeah, this is not working for me. I was neither intrigued by the storyline (though the premise sounded promising), nor did I care about the characters or could connect to their feelings.

This expanded story acts as a nice bridge into the new series

3.5*

This was previously a much shorter story without any kind of resolution, so I'm happy RJ has gone back to expand it.

It now acts as a bridge between the Sanctuary series and the upcoming Shadow Team one, which also links to the latest release in her Single Dads series.

There's a lot going on here, including undercover on top of undercover, betrayal from within the alphabet agencies (nowt new there then when it comes to romantic suspense elements!) and we're also back in a world of rapidly falling in lust feels turning to love within a short time.

Here, it didn't bother me as much as instalove has in the past. There's a lot of emotions right from the start that it isn't difficult to imagine them turning mire softer and into a potential future.

I'm definitely looking forward to reading Ryder and August's story in book two, with one of book three's MCs already revealed in Miracle (which I am very much intrigued by).

This one isn't particularly steamy but it does have a lot of feels to keep you turning the pages.

I remember reading the short story that this book is based on, and thinking to myself "this would be a cool novel, pity it's 14 pages". I was pretty stoked when I found it was to be a novel!
I really liked Josh and Ethan in here. It was a wonderful, intriguing yet sweet story.
This book feels like it's part of an RJ Scott expanded universe, where it touches a bit with the sanctuary and Ellery mountain series. However, I don't think this book would be confusing for someone who hasn't read either. That's unusual but really cool.

This is the long anticipated continuation of the original short story of the same title. In the original we were left with a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers. In this version, edited and extended, we are introduced to RJ’s newest series, Shadow Team, and what a start it is. Looking forward to what comes next.

It was an enjoyable and easy read even though the topic was dark, involving child trafficking. Ethan and Josh are very like able and the storyline is well developed and believable. Several characters from the Sanctuary series make an appearance but you don’t need to read that series to read this book.

For me this is RJ Scott writing at her best, Action and Adventure mixed with Romantic Suspense. It is my favourite trope.

I was gifted an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Yikes what a mess

I got 50% in and DNF. It was an absolute mess, full of inconsistencies and grammatical errors. Like the author just threw words at a wall and tried to make it into a plot. And the plot was pretty abysmal.

Ethan lets MC2, I can't even remember his name 5 min after I gave up on this read, hire him as a hooker. He's undercover, supposedly some part of a FBI team but not actually FBI? Anyway, he films the sex so it can be used to tank the dad's (MC2) child custody case, which will get Ethan in with the big bad guy, so he can take him down. Only Ethan realizes, after the act, what a horrible immoral (and illegal) thing that is to do so then takes the guy and his kid and runs away to some safe house.

Then in a matter of days, weeks and then days (the author can't decide how long) they're in love without us seeing anything but the hormones.

So yeah. Do not recommend. This author needs a LOT of work before publishing and I can't stand that Amazon suppressed 3 and under star reviews when books first came out because reading an honest review would have saved me the hour I spent trying to wade through this mess.

That was an almost DNF so many times. In the end a lot of skipping and eye rolling. Mostly I can't get over how not good that was bit somehow I still wanted to know how it ends. And it does on a cliffhanger for the next book and next pairing.

The story plot is just not believable. It seems like every other agent is corrupt and everyone is plain bad. There's only that Sanctuary institution that is believable.

What peeved me most was the plot around Ben a 10 year old kid. He basically gets kidnapped by strangers and is totally calm about it. He got into a van with men he didn't know and there's no problem with that? That's not how children behave and if they do there's something seriously wrong with them. Not even Josh his father has a problem with anything happening with him during the while book. The kid sees his father in bed with s stranger and makes pancakes??? Wth...

Also the love story was absurd. They fell in love in a matter of hours. Only because of sex. No real talk , no getting to know each other. And Josh is such a weak character, idk.

So nope I won't continue that series.

good premise, poor execution

I keep trying this author because I like the ideas but I think I need to stop because man, the execution is lacking. There is literally no relationship development between the characters. They decide they’re in love after two nights? Maybe? Without talking? And then spend the rest of the novel apart until the end? Like what?? And the suspense part of the story doesn’t really make sense either. Add to that the odd Britishisms that filter through to this allegedly American story and well, it’s a minor thing but it pulls you right out of the story.

Great start to a unexpected series. Not a fluffy one, but one with horror scenario. Human trafficking of the worse kind, children.

But what a twist, I'm very much looking forward to Ryder's undercover stint.

Part of the Shadow Team Series that needs to be read in order:

I had enjoyed this story first as a weekly episode and a little frustrated when it ended on a cliffhanger but delighted to discover that the book was coming out this month. I loved the story so much and Ethan and Josh are so good together and of course Ben and Oreo are great too. I was hoping they would get Charles Rouxier and they are beginning to and I hate Ben's mom, Ruth, because she didn't care that Charles was hurting Ben so she needs to pay. Ethan's undercover work was so stressful that I didn't relax until he was back with Josh and now I will have to worry about Ryder in the next story.
I had read all of the Sanctuary stories and this was a great new chapter.

3,5 Sterne aufgerundet.

Darum geht’s:

This was a great beginning to a new series, and I truly enjoyed this story. I loved Ethan and Josh, and I was easily swept up in the storyline and quickly became invested in them, and Ben, being safe and able to be together. Their story was full of intrigue, some angst and heat, and I can’t wait for the next book, because this one was terrific. Highly recommended.

I found How Much For The Night to be quiet a suspenseful, heated romance between to men meeting in the most random and tense of circumstances. Ethan is working undercover, hoping to get into the inner circle of a trafficking ring but when he comes across Josh in one of the jobs involved, his conscience surges forwards and he rescues Josh and his son from the situation but it leaves him in a tough spot regarding his job. Josh is goes from joyous at getting custody of his son to scared a being caught up in such an terrifying case that came so close to his son. He's also equally furious with Ethan with the way in which he was used and the pull that he now feels towards the man.
Ethan and Josh struggle through what to do but there is no denying that Josh and Ben, his son, need to be kept safe. Ethan pulls in help and works towards how to get back in and bring an end to the case. Their attraction bubbles back to the surface and then neither can deny the connection they share. This for me worked so well throughout the book except how they seemed to go from no real interactions for a while to suddenly not being able to live without the other but I enjoyed the scenes between them and when they had to be apart. You could then feel their desire to be together and the worry for each other and everyone involved. The case itself gets really quite dark with the trafficking of children and the cold blooded murder of certain people. I got really into the case and the possible outcome and the ending of this book leaves us open to another intense ride in the next installment of the series.
A really good story that often has the characters and readers on tenterhooks throughout. I'm really looking forward to the next book and the story that will unfold for the characters.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
3.5 stars of hotness and danger

This is the first in a new series, and was created out of a short story written a while ago.

I have to admit that I did not enjoy how the "meet-cute" between Josh and Ethan starts this engaging read. I get the reason that it had to happen, but the change in Ethan's actions followed by the intensity which develops in moments, it didn't quite gel for me. As the story progresses, it is ironed out and explained better, but maybe I needed to know Ethan better to understand his actions in that bar/room.

Once over that, I was fully invested in Ben being safe, and Josh and Ethan getting the chance to explore an attraction which clearly overrode good sense and job orders! I also enjoyed the mystery and double cross elements, which gave context to the situation.

I am certainly invested enough now to want to read the next installment!

HOW MUCH FOR THE WHOLE NIGHT? This is an expansion from a short story. I did not read until it until recently so I'm not sure what is expanded or changed but I can say once I started I fell into this story and didn't want to come out.

Josh thought his day couldn't get any better after having a great day in court where he was fighting for custody of his son, all he wanted was something he has been craving for a long time. Walking into that dark and seedy bar he couldn't help but watch the hooker that everyone seemed to want but he turned each and every one of them down. When Josh was brave enough to ask how much for one night he never expected what came next.

Evan was good at his job. His was supposed to get what happened on that hotel room on video and walk away earning himself a spot on the inner circle he was trying to infiltrate. Something about the look on Josh's face, the picture of his son in his wallet or the way he thanked Evan had Evan screwing up what his job was supposed to be. Instead he found himself taking Josh his son Ben and their cat Oreo to a safe house trying to keep them safe the best way he knew how.

The chemistry between Josh and Evan was palpable but such a slow burn. Their focus was on the bigger picture and suspense of the story. I was so invested in this storyline. I loved the fact that there was more than the love developing between them and it wasn't front and center at all times.

I can't wait for what's next with August and Ryder!

How Much for the Whole Night is the first book in RJ Scott’s new series, Shadow Team. It is a spin-off from her Sanctuary series, and while I think I enjoyed it more having read those books, they aren’t required to understand this one. This is romantic suspense, full of action and found family.

Having read the original short story this is based on, I wasn’t sure exactly where one ended and the other picked up. One thing I enjoy about Scott’s action books is while they have some scorching hot sexy times, they are plot-heavy in others. With rogue FBI agents, off-the-grid organizations, and dirty villains, this story did not disappoint. While Ethan and Josh met under unconventional circumstances, forced proximity allows them to get to know each other better. There is one section that bothered me, not only in this but also in the short. When they finally sit down together, Ethan may be daydreaming, but he is thinking about stolen kisses… and they haven’t yet. It could just be me.

Per usual, our boys get their happily ever after, but it’s hard-won. Ethan, Josh, their son Ben, and Oreo the cat will start a new life at Kingscliff, and Ethan has a newfound purpose with Sanctuary. I think this will be another exciting, suspenseful, and action-packed series from Ms. Scott, and I am anxiously awaiting Ryder’s story.

Happy Reading!

3.5/5 This is an action-packed adventure with some very serious themes. The ongoing mystery continues through the series, but this book has a satisfying new start for Ethan, Josh, Ben, and Oreo.

I enjoyed seeing the Sanctuary folks once again, and I liked Ethan getting some options, because he didn’t have the temperament for that kind of undercover work. (I’m with him on it. I get the theory of needing to get to the top to shut it all down, but the whole “collateral damage” issue is too much for me.)

I was a bit annoyed by the premise that Josh could just “tell” that Ethan was a hooker in the first scene. I mean, unless you see someone explicitly take money in exchange for sex, what is supposed to mark someone as a sex worker? Seems like a lot of harmful stereotyping to me about behaviour or clothing. So that was an irritation, although I guess I appreciated that Josh didn’t seem to attach any negative connotations to it.

Everything moves pretty fast, but I did feel like Ethan and Josh had a connection that snapped into place, starting purely physical but immediately getting more complicated. The jump to love is fast, but maybe because there’s also so much action going on, I got pulled along and just went with it. I liked how they treated Ben and the kids, how they made sure they were safe.

I’m now very stressed about August and Ryder and looking forward to getting to their story.

I'm really excited for this new spin-off series. Although it stands alone it's even more enjoyable if you've read The Sanctuary series and even the Ellery Mountain series, which I have. In this book, Josh is an accountant and a dad who decides to try for a one-night stand the night prior to his final custody case for his 9 year old son. Josh has been celibate for four years while sorting out his life with his son, while his son would come visit him with bruises from his mother's new fiancé. At the bar, he meets Ethan who is an undercover FBI agent posing as a sex worker. Ethan's mission involves seducing Josh as part of a much larger mission to stop the trafficking of young children.

The two men have a stellar encounter, but it quickly falls apart. Next, they are both on the run and teaming up with some of the Sanctuary agents to retrieve Josh's son and save others as well. In this challenge, it's difficult to know who to trust and death is often just a step away. Somehow, in the midst of downtime in safe houses, the two men have fallen in love and Ethan has also grown to love Josh's son. The two men want a lifetime together, but is it possible when Ethan is still deep undercover? This book has action, mystery, new and old friends, and a beautiful love. At the end, the story comes together to set up the stage for Bk 2 in the series with the new Shadow Team. Happy reading!

Could have been amazing, but missed the mark.

This book seemed to take me an eternity to read because I had to keep stopping and starting it. Its strange because on one hand, I just couldn’t get into the story at all, but on the other hand, I was really intrigued about what was going to happen.

So I’m not going to give any spoilers but I will say that while the romance element of the book is more or less tied up nicely by the end, the case isn’t, it’s more or less left as a bit of a cliffhanger that will obviously start up again in the next book.

Ok, so what did I actually think of the book, well, I think the author had an amazing premise for a book, but didn’t actually pull it off. The romance between the two main characters had no bones about it, it came out of nowhere and was a bit unbelievable, chemistry was lacking and neither main character blew me away either. The crime element started off a bit sloppy, but by roughly 60% of the way in it really picked up the pace and I must admit really kept my interest by that point.

So overall for me, this book was a great idea, but poorly executed. It did have some good bits, but unfortunately I doubt I’ll continue with this series when the next book comes out. It sadly was not for me.

Not What It Seems

Ethan was tasked with a job from someone he thought was good, but he's wrong. Things change in matter of seconds. Instead of making Josh's life a nightmare without his son he takes him, Josh son Ben and the cat Oreo into protective custody. In matter of days he's falling in love with them. Only problem is he still has to go back undercover to stop a human trafficking ring putting his life in more danger.

Josh was fighting with his ex wife to have Ben with him because she didn't want him. The politician she's fixing to marry only wants Ben for the way it looks. They set Josh up, but thankfully Ethan saved him. Got Ben and Oreo to him and are kept safe with a group of people that help keep people safe and hidden.

Really loved their relationship. The fact that they are together at the end and helping with the start up of Shadow Team which is a branch off from ones that protected and had their backs. Wow to the action and the twists that didn't see coming. The sex was hot too. Wanted more of Ben and Oreo.

Honestly this was mostly an action book with a little romance. We only get a little of Ethan & Josh together and accepting of their feelings because of Ethan’s job as a FBI agent and the fact that Josh was needing protection for him and his son. I would have liked to see a little more of Ben. It was mostly short glimpses with him, but we don’t know much about his characters besides what Josh thought and told Ethan.

There were some typos, missing punctuation, words being in lowercase that should have been in uppercase, etc. It’s Ethan’s chapter but it says “Ethan’s eyes widen as he froze” instead of Josh’s and “Ethan’s shoulder”.

I saw this was related to another series (Sanctuary), so all these established couples seemed to have come from there. I don’t feel like you missed out on too much though. The focus was mostly on Ethan and Josh and only a little on secondary characters. It was fine overall, but I like my books mostly romance, so this was a bit disappointing. Maybe 2.5-3 out of 5 stars?

How Much For The Whole Night is a great book. Ethan and Josh's romance doesn't start traditionally, but they got their happily ever. Josh just won custody of his son and he wanted one to be himself. He hired Ethan to have sex with, but he didn't realize he was an undercover FBI agent. Ethan knew Josh was just a mark for him, but his conscious would not let him walk away. He also realizes that Josh is part of a bigger scheme, and he decided to put him in protective custody, along with his son. The two had a bumpy start at first, but the more they hung around each and got to know one another, their relationship turned into something more. The book also includes previous characters from the author's other series. The book is romantic, sweet, and action-packed, with some angst, and I enjoyed it from start to finish.

A new series - R.J. Scott is an autobuy for me. Her books will always entertain me. That's the case here, too.
But - there is a reason this can't be 5 stars for me. There is a bit too much of "stupid decisions, unrealistic behaviour" and most of all "hair-raising and implausible" excuses why the bad guys would believe the a guy who seemingly had betrayed them and trust him with an op.
So....the writing is good, the story keeps my interest, kid and cat are fun, chemistry is well done. And as a cherry on the top, guys from Sanctuary are involved. If you don't know the Sanctuary series - it's not necessary to read it to enjoy this book - but the series is thrilling and fun, too.
Looking forward to the next two books, especially book 3 because as an R.J. Scott reader, I've already encountered that couple.

I really enjoyed this. I read the Sanctuary series (all 10 of them) some time ago, and what I remember about them was the energy and pace of them. This story shares the same feel and R.J. said that this is 'Sanctuary adjacent', do it certainly feels familiar. Ethan is way cool and his three member team is going to kick ass. Josh is a great foil to Ethan and of course Josh's son Ben and the cat round out the important core. The bad guys are great, easy to hate because their deeds are so awful. The good guys are familiar because we have met some of them in the Sanctuary series.
This one sets up a new set of stories that I am keen to plow into, now that I have finally read this one - I know I was tardy at getting started.

How Much for the Whole Night (Shadow Team book 1) by R.J. Scott. I don’t know what to say!! So glad I started reading on a Saturday, I couldn’t put it down. Another awesome book written by R.J. Scott. An accountant who won custody of his son and does something stupid the night before court to sign the custody papers, and an undercover FBI agent who would think the two of them would hit it off. I definitely cannot wait for the nest book. A must read. I received a free copy of this book and giving a honest review.
