The washed-up magician Zong Jiu transmigrated into a horror, infinite flow novel about a survival show, taking the place of the cannon fodder who died tragically in the first evaluation round. This show was very interesting. Out of the tens of thousands of people, only a hundred people could survive, and the c-position (strongest contender) could even get a universal wish ticket.

If it were someone else, they’d probably be scared to death.

No one expected that Zong Jiu was not only unafraid, but also caused a sensational stir, shamelessly showing off his tricks the whole way.

Once his tricks stopped, and his life could be considered safe and sound, he ended up in a rivalry with the novel’s big villain.

Today you try to get at me, tomorrow I’ll get you back, back and forth, it’s pretty fun, heh.

As a result, though it was just playing around, one time they got carried away and really did end up sleeping together. Watching the nemesis who was pressing him to the ground, Zong Jiu lazily lifted his gaze. “If you want to kill me then kill me, don’t speak nonsense.” Even when at a disadvantage, he showed no trace of fear, and actually continued to provoke him.

That person used his ice-cold finger to trace his ear, and the action heading toward the aorta suddenly stopped.

“What a pity. I’ve changed my mind.”

He was once very willing to personally give Zong Jiu death. Every day, he used to regret not gouging out his flesh, personally snapping his neck. But after this person fell into his hands, another, more urgent desire grew like weeds.

Compared to winning or losing, he would rather see him crying and panting, with eyes red, begging for mercy.

I've heard about this book for a long time but never got around to reading it until now, when a friend recommended it. I'm so glad I did, as it was a very enjoyable read between the different infinite flow instances and the incredible tension between our main couple.

At its core, it's a horror infinite flow novel, meaning that the characters are thrown into various worlds and need to complete the main task in order to survive and come back to their "base," also known as the infinite space. What makes each instance difficult is that if you're not careful, there's a very good chance of being killed by supernatural beings and dying in the most gruesome ways possible. I don't handle scary things and gore very well, so I definitely needed to skip some of the descriptions of death and how bodies were found.

On top of the infinite flow premise, the MC Zong Jiu is also a transmigrator. The whole world is a novel called Thriller Trainee, and Zong Jiu transmigrates into a weak cannon fodder character with the same name. Unfortunately for him, he's only read up to the first instance, so it's a bit different from the typical transmigration story where the MC can use his knowledge of the plot to change things. Yes he does use some limited knowledge in the first instance, but after that he figures everything out using his own abilities, which I appreciated.

In this novel world, there are thousands of contenders participating in the Thriller Trainee competition. The strongest contender will win the Universal Wish Ticket, which they can use to wish for anything, hence the large number of participants. All contenders are divided into levels, with F rank being the lowest and S rank being the highest. After each round, all trainees will have their rank adjusted based on their most recent performance, and anyone still ranked on the lowest tier will be killed.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are ten S rank contenders who are widely considered to be the strongest in terms of ability, and they're all ranked by number. Our ML is the #1 S rank. He doesn't have a name, but everything refers to him as the Devil.

Essentially the story follows the MC as he progresses through the various rounds of the Thriller Trainee competition and levels up in rank after each round. From the very first round, he catches the interest of the Devil, who initially has an antagonistic relationship with him and wants to kill him, but eventually that interest deepens and becomes an intense obsession with the MC and the desire to monopolize him instead. As you can imagine, this leads to some interesting dynamics in their relationship.

Two unbridled souls.

If it wasn't love, how could one be willing to be bound?

After a car accident leaves his hands permanently damaged, Zong Jiu is forced to stop performing as a magician. After reading a few chapters of a web novel called "Thriller Trainee", he ends up transmigrating into the body of one of its characters and is forced to participate in a horror survival show of the same name, which takes place in an infinite loop. Unlike others, he isn't scared at all -- he holds out hopes of recovering his hands and making his way back out. However, only 100 people could survive the show, and the existence of a certain devil, his biggest rival, soon makes his goal significantly harder to achieve.

"He wasn't wrong." "I've wanted to do this for ages now."

Zong Jiu is perceived as cold and indifferent, and neither is he easily fazed. Despite his cold nature, he does all he can to keep his promises. The Devil, cold in every sense of the word, is intrigued by the magician who is so different yet so similar to himself and feels himself drawn to him. They clash with deadly intend, pull malicious tricks on each other and try everything to keep their opponent on their toes. However, their hatred for one another is soon accompanied by a different kind of tension, and the excitement they get from infuriating the other doesn't go unnoticed either.

The system is brutal and ruthless, and Zong Jiu soon has to realize that he may need to depend on the Devil more than he would like...

[...] but if someone accompanied him, as long as it was this one person, and only this person...

This novel is saddening, frustrating, yet full of heartwarming moments. The side characters are well thought out and are just as important to the story as the main characters.

As my first unlimited flow, Thriller Trainee was able to exceed all of my expectations. The story captivated me to a point where I could not stop reading, which is how I managed to finish this story in less than two days, with 21 hours spent on reading. The relationship between the magician and the Devil can only be described as genuine enemies to lovers, and although the development of their relationship is quite slow, that barely mattered to me. I would recommend checking out the warnings, as the horror instances can be disturbing at times. For a reason I can't place my finger on, I was a little dissatisfied with the ending, however the story was nonetheless great and definitely one I would recommend. After all, apart from the main couple, I am just more than happy that the side couple found their way back to each other.

Zong Jiu apenas me hizo sentir algo.

Worth waiting to be translated into English. I love calm protagonists, and The Magician paired with a calculating antagonist/male lead, The Devil? Even better!

The use of the Tarot cards and titles was awesome, totally inspired me to read more of this genre.

The romance wasn't detailed in that their relationship is very fact and point once they got together, but I think it works well for them. Despite being quite cold outwardly, its clear the they truly do care about each other.
After all, to go from wanting to kill each other and doing all they can to sabotage the other, to being lovers, a sweet or simple relationship would be too abrupt a change.

I especially enjoyed reading about someone discover their feelings after it was brought up as a reason of contention for playing favourites! HA! The Devil is intelligent, but he is also slow on the matters of the heart~

Overall, one of my faves and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them bond, even if it at first came with terms and conditions.

Will read again when I want to experience a thriller themed infinite flow type novel again.

Usually I love slow burns, but, dude, it’s been 235 chapters. I needed more from the ml and mc. The writing was amazing and the plot was addicting so I kept reading because I genuinely enjoyed it, but I don’t think I’m built for waiting THIS long for them to get together or finally stop being enemies.

I dropped it, but it’s still a really amazing novel, absolutely no regrets!

Was interesting and I’m glad that he got the use of his hands back. I loved the dynamic between the MC and ML. I didn’t enjoy the ending, but it was fulfilling.
