I’m always searching for where I belong, but when I learn about my mother’s murder, I find my new justice.
Dr. Ambrose killed my mother, and I’m determined to kill him.
As I disguise myself as his newest patient, he shows me how much I love being objectified, degraded, and used. The more he trains me, the harder it is to remember why I entered the asylum in the first place.
I will get revenge, even if I crave Dr. Ambrose’s sensual torment.
Even if I lose my mind.
Author’s This is a horror novella with explicit scenes. An extended content list is located on the author’s website. Reader discretion is advised.
Audrey Rush writes kinky dark romance and erotic horror. She celebrates spooky season every day, and she is obsessed with Disney. You can find her in the South, drowning in coffee.
So it seems the books are getting more and more depraved as they go on, and I'm only on book two out of thirteen...
I've previously read one book by this author, Skin (never got around to reading the full version), and I'm not saying that you have to read that to read this, but I feel like I got some extra context, because the books are slightly connected, especially at the end.
I knew I wasn't going to be a fan of this when the book started how it did, but I was already committed to reading the whole series, so I decided to see where it would go and well, it definitely wasn't for me.
I was disgusted the whole way through, and that's putting it mildly. Book one was practically nothing in comparison, like, this one went to places I wasn't expecting (that's on me for not checking the TWs) and I was glad when it was finally over and the self promo started. It's safe to say I won't be picking up the full version.
This book is DERGANGED full of debauchery and craziness and I loved every freaking second of it. This book is NOT FOR EVERYONE but if you’re a perfect kind of F’ed up like I am, you will love this.
I'm going to preface this with a simple fact. I only have one trigger. Oddly enough...that trigger was in book one of this group project yet that one was a five star read for me.
I have many thoughts about this book but I will not post them all due to friends that are currently reading this series along with me. I do not want to spoil anything for them nor do I wish to spoil things for any other readers.
If you liked this book, I am beyond happy for you! Each reader is different.
I found that the storyline was not as in depth as its part one counterpart. Do I understand there are legit 13 books written by 13 authors? Absolutely! But when you are writing a series alongside other authors, it would be helpful if the notes matched up better.
This book seemed far too rushed, even for a novella. There was no real background for the asylum or the characters. There was little interaction. I feel like I've seen a December project coming up for this author and this book was used to preface THAT instead of contributing to THIS series.
The ending was not satisfactory because it really didn't state anything. This was not a novella that told a full story, there are several questions left unanswered. I tend to give ratings based on the "vibes" and this was not the vibe I am expecting from the series.
Demented? Check Twisted? Check
But this book did little to put the reader into the asylum itself. Very little was revealed and there was a lot that was repeated when an actual agenda could have been met. Revenge plots can be so thrilling...this one did not live up to expectations for me.
Another part that didn't sit right with me is the last TEN PERCENT of the book was a self promotion. I understand wanting to get people excited about your work, but there could have easily been another chapter or two to clean things up. I'm so glad this one is done and out of the way.
I've come to expect certain things from books by Audrey Rush, but this one... I was not prepared for this level of depravity!!! Check the content warnings, because there is PLENTY.
Violet had been living a humdrum life, always feeling like something is different about her, until she came across her birth mother's death certificate. She became obsessed with finding out the entire truth, including the identity of her father. With the help of Benji, her boyfriend, she sought out to meet Dr. Alick Ambrose, who was a nurse at the Wellard Asylum, where Violet's mother met her end for some answers. But no amount of research and preparation could prepare Violet for Ambrose, who is honestly one of the vilest, cruelest, most disgusting filth to have sauntered on my e-reader screen. He held a power over Violet that no man ever had, and never will, because he is determined to keep her to himself for good.
Violet was determined to exact revenge upon the man who had debased and abused her birth mother to her grave, and she had to constantly repeat her "mantras" and reasons for why she had to be in the asylum and why she had to submit to the doctor, which honestly was getting on my nerves, but was exactly the point. It was interesting to see her psychological and physiological reactions to the degradation she was being subjected to, and the subject of "nature vs nurture" came into question several times.
I was surprised with how this ties with another book by Audrey, but it definitely made sense. Birds of the same feather, and all that. Makes me want to take up hunting, I swear.
This book is one among the Wellard Asylum series, and not only do I want to try to read all of them, but this won't be the last that we will hear of Violet and the Doctor. Many thanks to BookSirens for the ARC, and to Audrey Rush for once again successfully capturing my imagination with her story, as messed-up as it was.
This is not the first Audrey Rush erotic horror I’ve read. However, it just might be the most depraved because holy sh!t balls what on earth just happened in this?!
Lowkey though I’m ready for the full length book 👀 I need to know what happens IMMEDIATELY Audrey IMMEDIATELY after that ending
Wow, this book was incredible, Audrey Rush is one of my favorite authors, and ever since she announced Exposed I wanted to read this book so much. This book is so depraved and disgusting,I loved the characters, poor Violet didn't know what she was getting into.
First reaction: I was NOT supposed to finish this tonight. I was supposed to sleep. turns out all I needed to break that curse was some extra dark Audrey Rush.
--- Ah yes, there is a reason I love Audrey Rush’s books and everytime I forget, she comes back with another banger. After months of being cursed with an annoyingly slow reading pace, Exposed broke me out of it.
Despite all the dark and depraved I read, I don’t think I’ve found another author who comes close to the way Audrey Rush dives deep into the abyss. And wow does it stare back.
The entire set up screams uncomfortable. A creepy asylum with a more than questionable reputation, the kind where you know you won’t ever get out once you’re in because no one will believe you?
That in itself is such a strong trope and one of the very few that have the potential to truly unnerve me.
But of course, that’s only the start of it. The plot is an inevitable path. The FMC got on the ride and now she has to roll with it; there is no choice, even if she desperatly clings to the illusion. Everything that follows is dark and horrific, depraved and far beyond any sort of morals.
I think that’s what I like most about horror erotica like this.
It exists so far outside the norm that not for a second would I stop and compare it to any concept of normalcy. A story in another realm entirely, with its own rules and consequences. Within this construct, Audrey Rush has crafted this book (and Skins - loved the reference!) and allows the characters to clash.
It’s almost like a chemical reaction, a thought experiment. The parameters are set, now we sit back and watch what happens when the completely deranged pseudo-doctor and the devious woman with a revenge plan come together.
Exposed is one of those books that allowed me to dive into scenarioes that are so far from my actual reality, to feed the hunger for the dark in a safe space and go beyond the question of ‘what the fuck is actually wrong with me’.
I am incredibly curious about the other books in this multi author interconnected series, about what else conspires behind the doors of the Wellard Asylum.
-- Thank you to BookSirens and Audrey Rush for an eARC of this book
My god, I remember it like it was yesterday—I had just finished Skins and read that a new Asylum book was coming out in September 2025.
I looked forward to this one for months, and it did not disappoint! 🤩
⚠️ Please make sure to read the trigger warnings before diving in. This isn’t a dark romance—it’s horror erotica, and that means there’s no guaranteed HEA.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review 🤍
This book was sick from the very first page—and it just kept getting sicker and sicker. As a horror lover, I mean that in the best way possible.
We already know what’s going to happen to Violet from the beginning, but that doesn’t make it any less gripping. The question becomes how it all unfolds.
The figure of the mad, obsessed doctor? Pure class. Dr. Ambrose is the cherry on top—completely unhinged in everything he does to Violet, and with zero remorse. Some scenes pushed the limits of what I thought was even physically possible—but again, Audrey Rush has a way with this kind of writing, and she’s absolutely shining here.
One thing I love in books is when series interconnect, and I screamed when the Founder made an appearance on the page 😍
I honestly love every single one of Audrey’s books, and I cannot wait for her next masterpiece! 🤍
A dark and disturbed adult yarn telling of the abusive sexual relationship between a crazed asylum psychiatrist and his young female victim. But can the two participants actually be related, and what is the major objective of this apparently fake 'scientific experiment'? In time all, and I definitely mean all, will be revealed.
Very exposed and extremely explicit - caution advised.
Where do I begin, because I am truly at a loss. I rarely give books a low rating. But if I could have the amount of time it took me to read this book back. I could have had a nice nap for the day. This book was rushed, gave me the ick & left so many questions unanswered. I have never read anything from this author before and unfortunately I don’t think I will again.
I can't even put into words what that even was. I'm not entirely sure what I even read. It was definitely something alright. Every once in a while I come across novels or novellas that don't quite hit and this was unfortunately one of those. This is the second in series of 13 Asylum stories by multiple authors. This had more shock factor to it than an asylum feel. There was a plot to it with an overall direction, but I feel it was lacking some more exposition in some areas. It did seem strangely rushed in some areas as well. There are still questions and no answers, things haphazardly thrown together, I'm just at a bit of a loss with this one. While nothing in particular in this book was a trigger for me, it is always important to read an understand the full list of triggers when they are listed. This novella is definitely twisted and kind of gross in a few aspects. I have an extreme urge to go bathe in a very large vat of cleaning chemicals and bleach my synapses after this. However harsh that last statement is, that's solely my opinion here. That may have been the overall aim of this novella as a "horror" at the end of the day, but was not my favorite read today.
*PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS* I can not stress this enough! I personally don't have any triggers, but I do know others do, and this is a book where you NEED to read them because it is not for the faint of heart! Now for the review!
WTF!!!! This book was absolutely insane, but I was invested from page one! I could not put this down and stayed up all night reading it because I needed to know what was going to happen. I have read unhinged dark horror books before, but nothing like this.
Exposed follows Violet who wants revenge on her mothers murderer, who happens to be Dr. Ambrose of Wellard Asylum. The only way to get close to him, is by being admitted into the asylum.
Exposed is one of the instalments of The Wellard Asylum series, written by 13 different authors. All books have trigger warnings that you should read! These are all dark unhinged books with taboo themes. I personally am very excited for this whole series because it is right down my ally.
I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this book and honestly, I can't stop thinking about it!
This novella isn’t a story…it’s a masterclass in RUSHing, chaos, and wasted potential. Plot holes yawn wider than the author’s attention span, characters behave like cardboard cutouts on caffeine, and the pacing is so frantic it feels like the book is trying to escape itself. Blink, and you’ll miss what never really existed. Reading this was less entertainment and more a speedrun through disappointment and regret.
I’ve read a lot of fucked up shut in my life but this was WILD🙃. Anything Audrey writes I actually do need to read TW because I normally go in blind, but she’s so depraved I need to buckle up and be prepared lmao.
Umm. Great author with good writing style but definitely read the trigger warnings. And no, this is not dark romance. This is closer to degrading erotica incest horror. I have no other words for whatever this was that I just read 😂
The brutality in this erotic horror novella was relentless and bleak. So many unique moments in this novella had my skin crawling, and jaw on the floor. This is one of those just stare at a wall endings. I personally would have loved to see a little more revenge than distress though.
Audrey Rush did it again…this was wild. If I didn’t know she wrote it and I went in blind I’d still pick up on it.
I loved the crossover from Skins and I enjoyed the plot and characters. I do wish there was a little more background on Benji (he seemed off) and I wish there was more on the ending but overall this was a 5 star novella packed with everything I wanted in an asylum book!
Okay so when I saw this on @booksirens I knew I needed to read it!!! I loved Skin and I wanted to read more for the author This story follows Violet who has certain sexual urges but also needs answers about her mother and the only one who knows or can help is Dr Ambrose.... This was a short bit action packed story and now I'm itching to find out more and I need to know more Please check your trigger warnings before reading this book
This book gave psychological horror a new meaning! This is not a romance it’s a delve into a women’s tormented and twisted mind! The so called Dr. is as sick and twisted as they come and of course Wellard Asylum is the perfect place for his freaky sick mind. He’s gotten his hooks in the Female Leading Character who at first is bent on revenge … her plot is known from the beginning of this read. However, this is Wellard and what starts out as a well laid plan turns into a dark and twisted sexual horror that will leave you asking “ What the hell did I just experience “ I got so immersed in this book and although many parts I cringed at I couldn’t put it Down! You don’t read this one folks you “ Feel” every twisted sexual torment that is meant to drive her totally insane! Don’t expect a HEA ( Which btw ruin the book) expect however a journey into the minds of these two very twisted and dark souls! This is so well written and be prepared because this has a lot of disturbing scenes! Just what I crave in a psychological horror book! I received this as an advanced read and I was more that happy to review this book!🖤
If you’ve read Audrey’s book before and enjoyed them then you will devour this one. Part of the Wellard Asylum Series. Please read the trigger warnings in place for all this series.
Violet is on the hunt for answers, that lead her to Wellard Asylum. What she doesn’t expect is to be drawn into the dark depravity of Dr Ambrose and his lessons or the past she uncovers. Will she find a way out of her predicament? Will the secrets of what is happening within those walls stay hidden?
Devoured this in one sitting, you have to take into account it is erotic horror 😈 It was well written with very effective visuals, this novella is prelude and I can’t wait until Audrey can release the full novel 😬
This was an ARC read and I love every depraved disgusting minute of it. Audrey Rush is one of my favorite authors and is also on the list of authors who I’ve read all of their books. I was so glad I was granted the opportunity to give this an early read. If you enjoy pitch black read this one will not disappoint. If your thinking about it just do it
ᵂᵉˡˡᵃʳᵈ ᴬˢʸˡᵘᵐ ˢᵉʳⁱᵉˢ 📘Exposed by Audrey Rush || @audreyrushbooks
This was my first day at Wellard Asylum and..By the gods of malpractice, what a way to be initiated. I don’t want to spoil a single thing because this book was an experience. A deranged, mind bending, spine curling ride from page one, and I loved every unhinged second of it. From the moment Dr. Ambrose mentioned [REDACTED], I knew I was in trouble. Audrey Rush is the QUEEN of chaos, you never really know what you’re about to read, just that it’ll be dark, disgusting, possibly morally offensive... and somehow exactly what you needed. My jaw is still on the floor. The characters, they’re deeply unwell but I love them so much! Violet… sweet baby Violet… whay can I say, she's a little Freak™ 😏
And don’t get me started on the Easter eggs for [REDACTED]!! I’m already counting down the days until [REDACTED] in December 👀 If you love books that feel like getting slapped with a medical chart and liking it… Exposed is waiting for you at the bottom of a empty grave.
This is part of the Wellard Asylum series so as always - Check Your Triggers ‼️❌
If you are a reader of Audrey Rush - you know what you’re walking into but if not, this is HORROR with extreme content. Do not take the triggers lightly!
Violet is committed to Wellard Asylum to exact her revenge on the doctor that killed her mother. While in there things take a sinister and deeply depraved turn.
I knew going into this that it would push my limits and it definitely did! From page one you are introduced to the Doctor in such a way that it gives you a clear understanding of what this story is going to be like. It reads very much like that last old sign that says ‘ Last Chance To Turn Around’ that you see in movies when they’re driving to somewhere they probably shouldn’t be! 😂 From that point on this is a relentless ride.
Though this extreme may not be for me, I found this entire story so intriguing. This was made to make my skin crawl and push limits, and it did that concisely and with precision.
Please check your trigger warnings when reading this!! This is something that will not be for every reader out there, can be dark, disturbed , depraved and disgusting for some, however, leave it to Audrey to bring you the most fascinating horrific story at the same time.
The story follows Violet who tries to get admitted into an asylum an enlists the help of her boyfriend so that she can get revenge of the man who unalived her mother, however, things take a turn and do not go as planned, realizing that it may be too late to turn around.
The story is definitely twisty, fast paced and hard to put down, had me hooked since the beginning and is going to leave you wondering what you just read but in a good way.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Exposed is exactly as the the title states. Dr. Ambrose is a lunatic within the walls and staff at the Wellard Asylum. He is demented and warped. He has been an employee at Wellard Asylum for 30+ years. He has had many patients in the past and until Violet. He is obsessed with her. He is fixated. He will have her one way or the other.
Violet gets commented to Wellard Asylum to get revenge on the person responsible for her mother's death. She has done everything she can to get admitted. What she doesn't understand that once she walks through the doors of Wellard she may never leave again. She isn't ready for the truth of what her mother went through at the hands of the one person that she wants revenge on. Truths will be exposed. This is a taboo read. This is horror it is gruesome. Please take note and check the trigger warnings.
This is not a dark romance. This is an amazing erotic horror, and Audrey Rush definitely delivered!
We’re introduced to Dr. Ambrose and Violet. Violet’s on a mission to avenge her mother, who she believes was murdered by Dr. Ambrose. To get close enough to take him down, she checks herself into the Asylum where he works. What she doesn’t know is that Dr. Ambrose has had his eye on her for a while and sees her as the perfect subject for his own twisted desires.
I devoured this book in one sitting. It pulled me in from the first page and didn’t let go. Dr. Ambrose is completely messed up, but honestly, so is Violet. She fights against herself the whole time, denying her darker urges, while Dr. Ambrose is dead set on breaking her down. Violet’s not an easy one to crack (she’s stubborn as hell), but her inner struggle is what made her so interesting to read. Watching her go back and forth with herself about her real purpose at the Asylum kept me hooked.
Dr. Ambrose, meanwhile, is playing the long game. Violet becomes his obsession, his perfect muse. He used to be fine with 'sharing' his 'patients,' but once Violet enters the picture, all bets are off. He wants her, and only for himself.
This book was the perfect blend of erotic and horror. 🖤 Definitely recommend!
We also get a cameo of The Founder in this book!!! I have become obsessed with this character and his 'entrepreneur' endeavors. If you want to learn more about him, I would suggest reading Skins, which is where everything begins.
⟣Tropes⟢ *there is more but may give too much away* ✅ Dual POV’s (first person) ✅ Captor/Captive ✅ Horror/Gore ✅ Open Ended
***I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. All opinions are my own.***
I had to read the first page like 3 times just to make sure I was understanding what was happening. Not because it was written wrong or anything but because it’s not something you’d normally read on page one. 😂
It’s a wild story, but it does feel just slightly rushed.. I think it could’ve been slowed down and the book could’ve gone a little longer.
This series so far is extremely disturbing, graphic and horrifying in a lot of different ways. So please be mindful in reading the triggers because this one goes a little hard.. 😂😅
