Fun, quick anthology of Halloween-themed shorts. Nothing groundbreaking, but each story has charm and solid art. It’s light, simple horror — more “spooky popcorn read” than true scares — and that’s perfectly fine for what it is. Easy, festive, and a nice October palate cleanser.
A spirited collection of spooky tales perfect for easing into the Halloween mood. The stories are imaginative and well-paced, with just enough eerie charm to keep younger readers hooked. While I appreciated the creativity and seasonal flair, the tone and themes felt geared more toward a younger generation.
This debut issue features horror legend R.L. Stine (Goosebumps) alongside Carola Borelli, Robert Hack, Megan Hutchison, Shawn Patrick Boyd, and Elijah Henry. Their combined talents deliver a mix of creepy fun and visual flair, with cover art by Frazer Irving, Drew Rausch, Jeremy Bastian, Jenny Frison, and Mattia De Iulis.
While RL Stine's story in this was decent, the last 3 stories in this issue are amazing Halloween stories! They've became some of my new favorites with fun ideas, awesome artwork, and great villians/monsters.
Just wish they took out a couple of the gag stories to give Johnny Pumpkin Time and Billy Pritzker Talked Too Much more pages to flesh out their stories more
The R.L. Stine story is probably one of the worst stories in this entire anthology series but everything else here was solid! Loved seeing Hack's first official short story opposed to the comic strips! Cool stuff all around.
An anthology of Halloween-themed stories, leaning more on the spooky side than on scary/true horror. Overall, it was a fun read with enjoyable art. Individual stories reviewed below.
The Graveyard Club ★★ Seemed quite generic, it felt like I was supposed to know these characters already from another book, which I didn't.
I Can't Take You Anywhere ★★ A mildly funny page of 3 cartoon jokes. Nothing more to say about it.
Wee Gee ★★★☆ A short satirical story about a ouija board. I actually enjoyed this one, quite witty.
Johnny Pumpkin-Time ★★★ More social commentary than actual scares, but I thought it was good story nevertheless. Didn't quite stick the ending for me.
Samhain ★★★☆ A good story about old Irish deities, with very creepy artwork.
Billy Pritzker Talked Too Much ★★★★☆ My favourite story from the book, some really chilling imagery and conclusion.
