Angie Thompson is 29 and never amounted to much. So of course when the zombie apocalypse started, all she cared about was making sure she had enough weed and a safe place to ride it out, after all, when no cares about you, there's no one for you to care about. At least that was the plan until she met the ultra-famous Jack Jones and accidentally kills his security guard. Angie can't say no to a man that smells that good when he decides they need to stop and rescue teens Ty and Chloe from a Taco Bell and drop them off in San Antonio. And that's where things get really weird. Angie's plans are soon thrown for a loop when she uncovers a government conspiracy and has to figure out how to not only get out alive, but bring her new friends along for the ride.
When Lisa isn't figuring out the best way to survive the zombie apocalypse, she can be found at work or playing with her two cats in Aurora, Colorado. If you’d like to read some of her (probably terrible) other writing, you can find it at https://misadventuresinreality.com. She would love to hear from you and can be found on Facebook and Twitter and at www.lisabiesiada.com. Don’t worry, you’ll find her; there are only 5 people in the country by that name and only she would be crazy enough to own up to anything she wrote.
The author did a fantastic job of making this story so believable that I honestly wished I was traveling with Jack and Angie.
She was such a trip and I found myself wanting to fangirl all over her---especially for being an overweight, ex-junkie, pot smoking, cigarette dangling smart ass.
And Jack...ohhhh...swoon - what a lovable sex god!
I can't wait to see what happens next in this story.
I found this book to be a pleasure. Loved the main character Angie. She was a down to earth believable hero with a bad attitude. I could identify with her.
When she helps a movie star, Jack, escape the zombies that are trying to eat him, they become co-survivors on at mission to reach a safe place. Who wouldn't want to share zombie apocalypse with a gorgeous man?
When Angie & Jack rescue two kids, they become a family. They find a safe shelter in Austin, Tx where they think the children will be safe from the flesh eating monsters.
The problems are, is anyplace safe & are these people really who they say that are? After accidentally overhearing a conversation, Angie's doubts are confirmed. Things go from bad to worse very quickly.
I really hope there is going to be a sequel. I have to know what happens to these characters. Definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes post apocalyptic or horror.

I read this genre a lot, I.e., all the time and this book moved me more than your standard issue "some guy who worked for a 3 letter agency and teaches survival skills on the side", not to rain on anyone's parade but I sure as check (p.g. rating) hope those ... people would survive long enough to actually read the constitution and stop parroting right wing water-carriers, what I am trying to say is that this story is for the rest of us and has my highest recommendation. And this is the first and only review I have written thus far.
I am so happy I stumbled upon this book! I can't remember how I found it... But I'm happy I did. I loved the characters and laughed out loud throughout the book. Now, before you judge me for laughing while reading a zombie book, you should know the author is brilliant. I love a witty main character who can find humor in the craziest situations. Good job random author. I would love for the story to continue in a second book( no pressure.)
Awesome! Thrilling book that I literally couldn't put down (hence finishing it and reviewing it at nearly 2am when I have to be up in 5 hours!). I have totally fallen for the characters, and their fight to survive.
The one downside of this book? I finished it and I want to know what happens next! Really sincerely hoping that there is a sequel in the pipeline.
Good read. Enjoy the way it was written. Like the characters and how the two most unlikely people end up together. Defiantly would recommend this to my reading group.
Raw, gritty with zombies....don't forget the snark and eye candy and you have an incredible book. I loved this but be warned it is not a book for someone with triggers or who is offended easily. I am in love with this and am so sad that there is not another one out already. Loved it!
A totally awesome zombie apocalypse novel with a very human, female heroine!!! Loved, loved, loved it, and hope the author continues the adventure. My favorite zombie novel yet, and I have been reading a lot lately!
This was a different kind of apocalyptic zombie book. It had all the action, gore, and of course zombies but it also had humor. It seemed almost every page you had the main character, Angie, cracking jokes either out loud or in her crazy a** head. This book does touch on subjects like drugs and rape, so make sure you are ok with that before you read. While this book was a great read, there are some grammar error and/or missing words throughout the book. So, if that kind of thing bugs you, this book is not for you.
Favorite lines from the book: -Unlocking the door, I burst into the hallway, and went into 007- mode; much like I did when playing laser tag. -I wanted to think it was a classic Wild West showdown where we both glared intensely at each other before drawing our guns, but this was not the case as he quickly decided I was food. -I charged at him full-throttle, battle growl and all, raised the tent pole like I was preparing to launch a lawn dart, and stabbed him through the eye with it. -Should one obey traffic laws during an apocalypse? -No one really needs to come down with a bout of diarrhea while running from zombies. -His eyes lit up and he snatched it from my hand like I was handing chocolate to a girl with PMS. -The smile on his face reminded me of the look someone gets right after they say, ‘”Here, hold my beer.”’ You just knew something stupid and dangerous was about to occur. -Maybe the mayhem of zombies eating everyone brings out the pyro in people and they get the insatiable urge to light shit on fire. -‘It’s a Small World After All’ briefly made an appearance in the forefront of my mind thinking about how nice it was to see people finally coming together. -He didn’t like nachos? What kind of sick bastard was I traveling with?! -Who knew San Antonio had a Sea World? Totally blew my mind. -I just stared back at him; fuck if that wasn’t a better guess than I would have come up with. If I had my way, we’d be going to Sea World. -As we descended, I knew we were in the right place, as there was a banner hanging off the side of the building declaring ‘SAFE AREA 1’. You just gotta love the military outlets and their original names. I would have written something like, ‘YARD SALE’, or ‘BERNIE’S BBQ’, but I was weird like that. -“I wonder if this is how fruit feels being fondled in the produce section…” -My inner GPS had never worked right, and I could get lost in a paper sack. -Dogs and kids could smell fear. Maybe I was wrong about the flirting, and he was just trying to cozy up to me so that I would join the dark side. I heard they have cookies. -I couldn’t stop myself from grinning when ‘Let the Bodies Hit the Floor’ started to loop through my head and it felt good to have an outlet and a target for the rage I had been holding in over what I’d been through.
This was the most AWESOME read EVER!! Lisa manages to stay safe, at the start of a Zombie apocalypse. She has been staying in her apartment for three weeks, watching the world turn as Zombies take over. She finally decides to leave her apartment and head to where she plans her forever place on an island. Along the way, she mets up with a brother and his younger sister AND, Jack a famous movie star. And their crazy escape starts!! MOST AWESOME BOOK EVER!! I'm off to read book 2.....
I’m writing this review after a reread. I originally read thing book years ago, shortly after it came out. I love Angie, Jack, and the kids and it was awesome rediscovering them all over again.
Sure, this book could probably used a good editing pass, but the issues are minor and didn’t distract me from the story. Typos happen, and it’s hard to catch everything when you self publish.
This is about as far away from what I would call your usual or expected post apocalyptic novel as you can find and I definitely recommend reading it! A refreshing read in a genre that can often begin to feel repetitive in the themes of many of the books available.
I really liked this book because the heroine is a normal person. She isn't a prepper (she's kind of a slacker) and isn't really ready when things in her world start to go very badly. She develops a plan to escape. which is really kind of a wishful fantasy, and on the way she runs into a famous movie star, which, even in the apocalypse, throws her for a loop.
I like her because she is a regular woman. Instead of being a great shot or a pro at self-defense, she worries about how she looks. She thinks she is too unattractive for the movie star and it makes her sad because she develops a crush on him and doesn't think anything will happen because why would a gorgeous movie star want anything to do with someone like her.
She sounds like a real woman, with all the normal self-doubts, which really shouldn't apply in the apocalypse, but still do. Will people ever get beyond attractiveness as a measure of a person's worth?
She turns out to be more strong and resourceful than she ever thought she could be. The conversations between her and the movie star are both funny and depressing. They grow closer through the course of the novel and she can hardly believe it.
They meet other survivors at a "sanctuary" set up by the government, but there are strange things going on there and they agree they need to get out. I really don't like it in these apocalyptic stories when people are still killing each other after billions of people have died. It seems like survivors should band together for safety and to try to survive, but there is always a bad element that wants to take advantage of the lawlessness and end of societal norms. Which is human nature? Or are both just different ways of survival?
I highly recommend this book because the people are real (there are no superhero ex-marines to save everyone), they are intelligent, and they really have no idea what they are going to do to survive. That would probably be most of us if/when the world ends.
The only thing that really stands out in this book is Angie. She's naive, self indulgent and irritating. Also, the pacing makes no sense: too many feelings magically appear in the space of only 2 days.
