Ever had a dream that felt too real? Now imagine actually being able to step inside someone else’s. That’s what happens in The Lattice Scheme and let me tell you, this book is a total mind maze in the best possible way.
Azure Prescott signs up for a Bureau gig expecting boring investigations and coffee-fueled meetings. Instead, she ends up dream-walking through people’s minds, chasing secrets that don’t want to be found. There’s a missing agent, shady neurochips, and more lies than an online dating app. Basically, nothing is what it seems.
The concept? Genius. The execution? Even better. Every chapter feels like slipping between reality and illusion, where memories twist and loyalties glitch. Lieske writes it so vividly you can practically feel the dreamscapes shifting around you.
Azure is smart, bold, and constantly questioning her own sanity (same, girl). Watching her untangle this web of conspiracies and deception is pure thriller gold. By the end, you’re left wondering what’s real and what’s just another layer of the dream.
If you love stories that scramble your brain and keep you guessing till the last line, The Lattice Scheme is your next obsession. Just don’t blame me if you start doubting your own dreams.

Did Not Finish
April 30, 2026I absolutely loved the concept of this book. The writing was really good and the world building is amazing. But it just went right over my head. I didn't feel like I was smart enough to keep up. I was torn between continuing or not because I really want to know more and I want to find out what happens! But since its super long I decided to DNF.
I will keep an eye out for more from this author though!

Interesting ideas and a lot more layered than I expected
This book made me slow down in a good way because I was constantly trying to figure out what was real and what wasn’t. The whole concept of entering subconscious memories to investigate someone already had my attention, but once the contradictions started stacking up it became much more psychological than I thought it would be. Azure worked for me as a lead because she never felt fully in control of the situation, and that uncertainty carried through the story well.
Some parts honestly confused me for a minute, especially during the deeper memory sequences, but I think that was intentional. My wife asked what the story was about and halfway through explaining it I realized how much of it deals with trust and perception more than action.
I liked the atmosphere more than anything else. There’s this constant feeling that nobody fully knows the truth, even the people running the investigation. A few sections dragged a bit in the middle, but overall I stayed invested because I wanted to understand where it was all leading. Definitely one of those books where you second guess everything after certain reveals happen.

Wow, this was a wild ride of a book! I loved every page! The entire story was so well written and so very intriguing! Absolutely recommending to any science fiction fans! I loved every page a good mystery more than anything, and this was just that!

This was a wild ride of a book! Yes, it’s incredibly long, but it is NEVER boring!
A. Lieske has done a phenomenonal job of weaving a somewhat dystopian world with a complex justice system, Dreamwalkers, and layers upon layers of suspicion and intrigue.
I didn’t know what to expect starting this book. I didn’t know at any point what the end was going to look like, which I love in a book.
If I could change anything, it would be that I wish the book had been split in two. I feel I could have gleaned much more information and enjoyed the story even more if it had been. As it were, it was so long, I felt myself missing pieces as I went through.
If you’re into a layered read that poses deep questions, has adventure, and an impossible number of twist and turns, I highly recommend this book!
