Blood of the Damned - Thorn: Fated Vampire Mpreg

Rate this book
Sommelier Ledger Rain is running from his past mistakes. What does Vaughan Winery have to offer him? Everything.

Ledger unexpectedly gains an unusual mate, his boss, Thorn Vaughan, and life swiftly becomes a roller coaster ride full of dips, heights, twists and turns. Extinct vampires with stunning wings, a proposal, a wedding—and babies. And as if that isn’t enough, his carriage on this particular ride is about to be derailed when he discovers his mate’s secret.

Thorn is gay, but unfortunately vampire dhampirs—their mates—are female. Or so he believes until he gets a male mate. Now he’s in uncharted territory, and what will result from their mating, nobody knows. When Ledger becomes pregnant one question needs answering. How are baby vampires born?

Ledger is going to find out—the painful way.

Blood of the Damned—Thorn, book one in the Vaughn Winery Series, is the fall of the first Vaughn brother, where a vampire learns that hiding from Fate is a nonstarter.

Where does one start with about what I do?
I’m a writer, but I’m sure you guessed that by now if you’re reading this, hey? What you might not know is I’m a little quirky, live in my pj’s most of the time and have cake Saturdays with my sisters every week. I dedicate a little of my time to taking care of my grandbabies and on the dedicated writing days I like to write an eclectic mix of romance, suspense and paranormal fantasy. In the main I’ve written gay romance but I’m branching out under another the pen name in the future, so watch this space.
I’ve a passion for books like you would not believe and it led me down this path and now I’ve over 29 books released and heading towards releasing a whole lot more. The way my head is I never know where I’ll be headed next. I hope you’ll find a little joy in my words and follow me to see where the journey takes me and you.
If you’re interested at some point in 2021 I’ll be writing under the name JP Paton which will be F/M crime and Fantasy two of my favourite things. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled 

We have a new series by J.P and this time we are headed to a winery where a trio of vampire brothers have settled. It was kind of cute in a way how each brother contributed to the running of the winery, playing to each of their strengths. They've had a good thing going on so far, and they hope it will only get better with the hiring of their new sommelier.

Ledger, who applied for the sommelier job as a way of starting fresh, sure gets the surprise of his life when he shows up to meet Thorn. It's not everyday you meet your new boss and find out he's also your fated mate. These two were fun together. I liked how even though they were both feeling the mate pull, Ledger still worked to make sure Thorn respected his boundaries. He wasn't a pushover.

Thorn I wanted to wack over the head numerous times during this book. Yes, he was hit with some unusual revelations, as in his dhampyr mate turned out to be male when all previous known ones have been female. He also has to come to terms with the fact his mate can carry his offspring. SURPRISE! And wait until you learn how aforementioned offspring are born!! Let's just say this isn't your run of the mill mpreg and leave it at that.

I really enjoyed the banter between the vampire brothers and I am hoping that we will get their books in the future.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This book is set in the Divergent Omegaverse world, but spins off. You don't need to read those books before this one, you can pick it straight up. However, I personally recommend you read at least Alpha's Divergent Omega. It will give you a better picture of this world, and what it means to be Divergent here. Lane and Derick make a visit here.

Ledger is Divergent: He has an inner animal, a squirrel, but he cannot shift. He runs to the Vaugn Winery to get away from a break up. Meeting his mate was never in the plan, finding out that mate is his new boss AND a vampire?? Mind blowing but Ledger and Thorn run with it, until Thorn discovers just how vampire babies are born.

I love Ms Sayle, you know I do, but this book takes me back to the very beginning of her author career and I'm left with questions!

So many bloody questions and feelings!! And, as is par for the course with this author, I cannot voice all of them and that is so frustrating!! My book brain is doing overtime, while battling a nasty cold and I can't get them all out.

I can voice some though!

I liked this a lot. It doesn't focus so much on the divergent part of Ledger and more on the vampire part of Thorn, and his brothers: Calvert and Dacian. There is a sister, Elouise, but she is only talked about and to on the phone but doesn't really play a part, other than to tell Thorn just how vampire babies are born!

I found the relationship between the others amusing, Dacian takes great pleasure in winding Thorn up, but Calvert is more subdued. His feelings about Thorn and Ledger become known through the book and I wonder if Ms Sayle will make him wait til last to find his dhampir, his fated mate.

It's steamy, and that steam runs right through the book.

so, questions! What was the thing with the increased wine order?? That was mentioned and left hanging. And I wanna know!

Who is next?? Will each vampire be mated to a Divergent? Or will there be some surprises? OOOH Will Elouise get a book too??

Feelings?? You should know this is an m-preg world, and there is a male pregnancy in this book AND a vampire birth. (which was slightly faded to grey and I'm so glad it was! But now I know, I can prepare myself for next time, cos I have a feeling that the next one might not be quite so simple as using thrall!)

I feel this has been deliberately left sort of open ended. While there is the birth of Ledger's babies, the book ends there. And that is my biggest and strongest feeling: There is more to come for Thorn and Ledger.

And I want to be front and centre!!

4 very VERY good stars

This was such a fun, fresh paranormal romance! From the first chapter I was hooked, and by the end I was completely invested in Ledger and Thorn’s story.

Ledger is looking for a new start after a rough past, and when he takes a sommelier job across the country, he has no idea how much his life is about to change. What he finds is a small-town winery run by three vampire brothers, each with their own quirks, strengths, and banter that made the family dynamic so entertaining. The world-building around the winery and the brotherhood was such a great setup for a new series—I can already tell I’ll be impatiently waiting for the other brothers to get their stories.

And then there’s Thorn. Ledger meets him before he even realizes he’s his new boss—and oh, did sparks fly! Their fated-mate connection was instant and intense, but what I loved most was how Ledger didn’t just roll over for it. He made sure Thorn respected his boundaries and worked for his trust, which made their relationship feel more layered and believable. Thorn definitely frustrated me at times (I wanted to shake him more than once), but watching him grapple with his expectations and grow into the role of mate and partner was so satisfying.

And yes—surprise pregnancy! But this isn’t your typical mpreg storyline, and the way it unfolded was both shocking and fascinating. Without spoiling, I’ll just say: you’ll want to brace yourself, because it’s not your run-of-the-mill setup, and it absolutely worked.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable start to a new series—sweet, steamy, full of drama, family bonds, and enough surprises to keep me turning the pages. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the other brothers.

I received a free ARC copy, and this is my honest review.

This story was published in an anthology but has been thoroughly extended and it's now a fully story and the start of a series about three vampire brothers and the winery they run together.

It's set in the same universe as the author's Divergent universe but it's a fully stand-alone from the other books outside some small crossovers - they may want you to read them though if you haven't yet.

I fell in love with Ledger and Thron when I read the anthology so I am thrilled to have the full story now.
A job interview is highjacked by meeting your fated mate, an instant claiming without mentioning some vital parts - your mate is a vampire. And a very possessive one, mate claim is taking very serious in the vampire world.

Ledger is no pushover though, determind to claim his place at the winery and be taken seriously, he puts all energy he still has to ensure Thron is behaving, even if it means putting said vampire in the doghouse once in a while.
There is plenty of heat between the sheets but these two are building a great relationship and it's a beautiful read you don't want to put down.

I love the relationship between Thron and his siblings. There is clearly lots of love but they also love to tease. There is some underlying issue but I hope that will be cleared up in the following books, I can't wait for the next brother to fall.

BLOOD OF THE DAMNED - THORN is the first book in the Vaughn Winery series, which takes place in the Divergent Omegaverse. I was happy to see Derick and Lane make an appearance too!

Ledger has left his ex and his old life behind in LA, moving to Bumf?ck, Nowhere for a new job at Vaughn Winery. What he doesn't expect is to meet his mate and everything that comes with it! Thorn is in town to meet his new employee, and doesn't think the omega who is his mate is one and the same, so he is ecstatic when he finds out. Together, their romance moves forward at breakneck speed, culminating in Ledger being pregnant, which raises a whole bunch of questions that they might not like the answers to.

This was a great introduction to the series, and I can't wait to see both Calvert and Dacian meet their mates. Definitely recommended by me, and I hope to see more of Thorn and Ledger in future books.

I first read this as a novella in an anthology. This edition has new words added to lengthen the story and to start a new series.

I enjoyed this as a short novella and even more now in its longer form. I feel like I haven’t read anything JP Sayle in awhile. I love vampires! I like the fact that this is a fated mates, mpreg storyline. The fact that this will be a series of at least three books makes me really happy. The characters are so well written, that I feel like there is so much more to say for them especially the twins Davian and Calvert. Ledger is a sweetheart with a rough past that makes my heart hurt. Thorn is a long-lived vampire head over heels for his mate. That’s another thing, JP Sayle has a way with words and her endearments. I find the word sweetling absolutely adorable. I can’t wait for the rest of this series to come out. I want to see the babies as they grow, and whether or not Ledger and Thorn will try another pregnancy. I want to see Calvert and Dacian meet their mates and become as enthralled with them as Thorn is with Ledger.

This is a story about Ledger Rain, a sommelier, who takes a job at the Vaughan Winery hoping to escape his past. He finds an unexpected future when he discovers his boss, Thorn Vaughan, is not only a vampire, but his fated mate. Their life together is a whirlwind of new discoveries. They get married and start a family, but their journey is complicated because Ledger is male, and male dhampirs (vampire mates) were thought to be nonexistent. The central conflict arises when Ledger gets pregnant, forcing them to figure out how baby vampires are born—a process that has been lost to history.

I loved this story with the two men who met and quickly realised that they were fated mates. The story was a good introduction to the brothers who ran Vaughan Winery and their personalities. I did find the focus on Ledger's pregnancy hormones and behaviour was too much. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and set in the omegaverse with MPREG.

Great start to a new series. Ledger comes to a small town as he got a job as a sommelier at a winery. Still a little early to meet his new boss, he started walking around town to get a feel for it. When someone behind him overhears a comment he made, he realized that it was his mate. Thorn is in town to meet his new employee, he replies to a comment and realizes that the person he spoke with is his mate. This is the start of their story of the start of their mating, especially after they exchanged names, to running a business together and with Thorn’s brother. I loved the world building with high heat and chemistry between them. Cannot wait until the brothers get their stories too.

So good, this book was such a good read, I really enjoyed it! Ledger decided he needed a fresh start away from my ex, so he took the job from a blind interview, moving across the country unknowingly moving from a large city to a small town. As he was going to meet his future employer, he met a man and mated him before he even knew his name, finding out later he was Thorn, his new employer. This began an adventure of epic proportions new job, new town, new friends and a new family, a surprise pregnancy and new marrige and enough love to last a lifetime, if we can just survive the drama that comes with it.

THIS IS A GREAT ONE!!!

VAUGHN WINERY Book 1 is the first Book in a whole new world. This is paranormal at it's most imaginative. JP SAYLE can create a world out of so many unexpected things. Thorn and his Brothers own Vaughn Winery. They are Vampires . Ledger is a divergent shifter who has excepted a position at the Winery. This story took off like a rocket ship. I could not put it down. I will say fated mates, twin brothers and utmost confusion for all involved. Check out the family dynamics between the Brothers and enjoy the mayhem. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

Ledger and Thorn story was exciting and entertaining with appearances of old characters and their shenanigans to rile them up.
Their first encounter was an interesting one, their connection instantaneous and beautiful, but there were a couple insecurities created by past experiences, and they had to work a bit at trust and reassurance.
I adored their moments together, their teasing, and the way they expressed their feelings.
It was a beautiful read, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I loved these characters and can’t wait for the brothers’ to get their stories! Definitely recommend! This is my honest opinion of this complimentary copy of this book

Small things missing

Had super high hopes, and for the most part it delivered! But I really felt like the opportunity for Ledger and the brothers to bond as a found family was skipped. I would have loved if it were a bit longer with more conversations and bonding and discussing the vamps history. At the end I still felt like Ledger and the twins barely knew each other.
Overall good tho, will def be reading the next one!

I read this when it was part of an anthology and enjoyed it. The extension adds to the world building and character dimension. I felt like some questions were left unanswered so hopefully next book will have more!

The beginning was so good but the middle, the ending? I really have no words. Even the people that Thorn was skeptical about them ordering more wine all of a sudden? It was forgotten expect the reason would be in the other books..

Thorn had wrapped his wings around Ledger’s body, the beautiful feathers soft as satin against his naked skin.
