She wanted safety. She found a controlled community instead.
Your new neighbors are watching. For your own good.
I thought moving to Serenity Heights would fix everything. After my divorce, the manicured lawns, smiling neighbors, and promise of safety felt like a fresh start—exactly what I needed to rebuild a broken life.
But insomnia has a way of revealing what daylight hides.
While the rest of the neighborhood sleeps, I’m awake—watching residents move through the streets in eerie synchronization. Noticing how questions are quietly discouraged. How people who push too hard suddenly “relocate for family reasons.” How my well-meaning neighbors seem to know far too much about me.
Serenity Heights isn’t just a community. It’s a system.
And perfection here comes with conditions.
Now I have to decide what matters more—my messy, imperfect freedom… or the blissful compliance my neighbors are so eager to offer.
Because in Serenity Heights, happiness isn’t just encouraged.
It’s mandatory.

Neighborhood Watch is a psychological thriller with plenty of twists and a deeply unsettling ending that will stay with you long after the final page.
Just as I started to think this reminded me of Stepford Wives, the main character says that this is like Stepford Wives. From there, the story takes off! I could see influences of Stepford Wives, Rosemary's Baby, and Stephen King, but then it takes a sharp turn. There are surprises at every turn. The author builds up foreboding that kept me hooked throughout! Remember, be careful what you wish for!.

this had everything that I was looking for and enjoyed about a psychological thriller novel. It had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed the use of mind control. The characters worked well in this setting and enjoyed going on the journey with them. Shelby Shaw has a strong writing style and enjoyed how good this was and enjoyed the overall psychological thriller feel of this.

Another twisty story by Shelby Shaw I did very much enjoy and once again read in one sitting. And once I finished I am pretty glad my neighbors are actually not watching me living me daily life. Or at least, I hope so...and I am surely also more than glad I do not live in Serenity Heights. Where your friendly neighbor might actually be more insane than you are able to imagine...
Okay not going to lie! I was really enjoying this right up until the end. Had a bit of a Stepford Wives vibe which is what sucked me in. But without being a spoiler all I can say is the ending left me disappointed and sad!
Nothing like a little chemical brainwashing to resemble a Stepford Wife. I agree with some of the other readers, the ending was just terrible. Overall concept was unbelievable. But they have the racket down to a fine science. Just didn't make for good entertainment.
