On her own under council training, July comes face to face with a new evil. A vindictive, vicious spirit known as Red-Woman has been set loose and uses her uncanny ability to incite jealousy in the group and nearly causes its undoing. Renn returns and together, he and July will have to face the truth of where he comes from and where she's going.

The second in the Shamans of the Divide series, Fall into Fire continues the story of July Henry. I devoured this book so quickly. I had been waiting for the second story in the series ever since I turned the last page of the first one. It did not disappoint. Applegate's style is gripping and flawless, and the story is intense. It never gets boring - it's constantly thrilling and is the definition of a page-turner. July is a strong character, even if she often plays games with her own emotions, and she adds a good bit of comic relief to an otherwise harrowing tale. Applegate perfectly captures the essence of teenage drama while expertly wrapping it up into a mind-boggling adventure filled with suspense and surprises. I'll definitely be checking back often to see when the third and (unfortunately) final book comes out.

Fall into Fire (Shamans of the Divide #2) — Megan Applegate (28 chapters + epilogue) Jan. 29-30, 2017

I had this marked as a three star on my Goodreads list, but I don’t think I’ve ever read it. Weird, but true.

I had read the first book in December 2014, so I was curious how I would be able to slide back into this series. Would I need to go back and re-read book one? Would it be easy to understand what had happened if I didn’t?

As it turned out, this series is one where you don’t necessarily need to go back and read the previous books to enjoy the story if and when one picks it back up. What a refreshing read that was! Granted, I didn’t understand everything (how could I…it was so long since I had read the first book;) but it really wasn’t needed to figure out the past. The author did a good job of filling in the blanks when it was truly needed.

I had just as much fun reading this book (and it read quick too!) as I had the first one. When the action started picking up, it got realy good and became a page-turner.

I'm not sure (and the author didn't make note of it,) but if the myths told in this story are real: WOW, what an awesome thing to incorporate into a piece of fiction. (I did Google it, and it is a legend from the Crow. I wish the author would have made note of this at the end of the book, or at least gave some guideline to it. Because missing myth with a contemporary story is always a good learning experience in a fun reading environment! As it is, they are an enjoyable piece to the plot. The myths really advanced the story and made the plot come alive.

The only really nit-picky thing is that there are several grammatical errors (mostly words missing "-ing" at the end; and some quotes were missing "" around them.) If that sort of thing bothers you, either know that this is an independent author and it comes with the territory, or else pass on this story.
