Honestly? I almost walked away from this book after the opening paragraphs. The whole handwringing "we were devastated by the autism diagnosis" thing really, really rubs me up the wrong way.
I would be devastated if my child had an incurable fatal disease. But unless your child is very seriously low-functioning, autism is NOT a horriffic thing that will ruin your life. Get over yourselves. (I couldn't make it to the end of even the first episode of Parenthood because of this, despite the fact that I love Lauren Graham...)

However, after the opening paragraphs this book became a lot more positive, and will probably be a very good resource for people who find themselves in that situation. we had to discover most of this stuff on our own, but there is definitely a comprehensive overview of the main issues that having young children with autism brings. there are also ideas of how to deal with them. not all of them will work or be practicable (for example, if your child has to wear a school uniform, just buying clothes that don't irritate your child may not be possible. Yet one more reason for getting rid of uniforms IMO!)

It is however an American book, and much of the peripheral stuff like support available and diagnosis process will likely not apply to anyone living elsewhere (very different in the UK for starters!).
