Heard This and Thought of You

Rate this book
Adam Patterson has been in love with effortlessly cool grunge goddess, Gloria “Glow” Gilbert, since the first day of high school. The problem? He’s not even on her radar.

Despite encouragement from his much braver childhood best friend, Ashley Wilson, Adam prefers to take a backseat to life and focus on his studies. Why shouldn’t his dream girl come to him? It is the ‘90s, after all!

But all that changes when Adam decides to ditch the books in favour of the senior band a five day tour across British Columbia with no parents, beautiful scenery, and endless opportunities to finally make the first move. Things seem to be going to plan when Adam and Ashley’s tried-and-true friendship suddenly starts to falter. They’ve never fought like this, and Adam can’t seem to determine the cause; it’s almost like Ashley is harbouring a secret, something she’s dying to tell him…

A nostalgic narrative steeped in the chaos of adolescence and the drama of young love, Heard This and Thought of You is a beacon of comfort for anyone who has ever felt unsure of their path and in need of a friend.

A funny and wholesome coming of age story, navigating the confusing world of high school romance. So lighthearted and relatable, this book is sure to make you laugh and think fondly back to your own high school drama!

This was such a wonderful read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can imagine pre-teens loving it too. The storyline was cute and funny and full of teen awkwardness. I will be recommending this to students at my school! I would suggest for grades 6-7+. Bonus was reading about cities in my own province (BC).
