Our FMC, Mia, returns to Birch Springs after spending several years living the city life, hoping for a fresh start. Of course, as all small-town romances go, it’s never quite that simple.
Enter Jackson, her brother’s best friend. A man who has been carrying a torch for his best friend’s little sister far longer than he’d care to admit. And let’s be honest, the feelings are not one-sided.
Jackson is a firefighter, a single dad, broken-hearted and may have a sprinkling of trauma. Who doesn’t!
Throw in a house-sharing situation, a nanny-of-convenience setup, and two people fighting their growing feelings under one roof, and you have a recipe for trouble.
The writing, at times, was charming and witty, though there were moments where it felt a bit juvenile - though that may just be me. Overall, it was simple, light, and an easy read.
If you enjoy:
Single dad romance
Nanny trope
Brother’s best friend
Forbidden romance
…then this one is for you.
This is very much a slow-burn, small-town romance. The kind many of us love. It delivers charm, chemistry, and cosy vibes, making it perfect for this time of year. While it has plenty of comforting, heart-warming elements, something felt slightly missing for me, though I can’t quite put my finger on what.
Don’t get me wrong - it wasn’t a bad read at all, and I do recommend picking it up.
It works well as a palate cleanser, but ultimately, it fell just a little short for me
