Things That Go Bump Into Each Other

Rate this book
Things That Go Bump Into Each Other is a paranormal romantic comedy about ghosts, grudges, and one house that’s sick of waiting for these idiots to kiss already.

Sephie Blake doesn’t believe in ghosts. Or fate. Or men who smile like that and mean it. A cynical paranormal investigator with a serious caffeine dependency and zero patience for nonsense, she’s made a career out of dismantling the supernatural one cold spot at a time. So when Dead Serious invites her to investigate the famously haunted Ashland Manor—her ultimate bucket list location—she jumps at the chance to debunk every creaky floorboard on camera.

Especially if it means disproving Luke Mavros, the himbo medium with puppy-dog eyes, absurd muscles, and an infuriating belief in the unseen.

Luke’s not here for fame or spooky theatrics. He’s here to help people, spirits, and the sentient house apparently trying to shove him and Sephie into a romcom subplot. Sure, she thinks he’s the kind of guy who’d lose a staring contest with a doorknob, but it turns out he reads people better than she does. And is far more patient than she expects.

When Ashland Manor traps them inside and starts playing matchmaker, Sephie and Luke have no choice but to work together to solve an underlying mystery.

And maybe survive a few feelings along the way.

Disclosure: I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an honest review. As someone who loves supporting indie authors, I always aim to share thoughtful, fair feedback. While I have personal reading preferences like a love for fantasy, horses, or specific tropes, I never let that impact my rating unless it is relevant to the book’s intent or audience. I review with the genre and readership in mind.

Star rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice rating: YA
Darkness/Bloodiness: 🖤.25

My second read from the author! I jumped into the story so happily, once again totally just based on the cover as I love to surprise myself. The cover looked so much fun, I already knew I am in for a heck of a romcom, but gosh I was sooo pleasantly surprised.

I love sentient objects, carzy houses whatever, and the matchmakes ghost house was probably my second most favorite one. I felt very comfortable with the slow paces setup as there are many characters and backgrounds and the world itself that I had to get to know, then along with the main characters I got to know the house and its story. So much cheeky humor, banter and drama.

I like to play the detective but there were a few big enough twists to make sure I can't guess all the plot before the mysteries are revealed, I also got incredibly distracted with laughing so much about the absurd matchmaking moments the house cooked up. The soft, YA slow burn was a perfect touch, that really rounded out the whole story. The characters even got to experience living closely together and just going on each other's nerves before they considered a relationship at all.

There is a slightly spooky shift in the book that was amazing for me, I loved the higher stakes and felt the adrenaline, fearing how everything will turn out, but I would still consider this book very much of a cozy romcom read with plenty of paranormal elements.

Granny definitely needs to learn some boundaries, but she was still one of my favorite side characters! Her connection to Seph was really heartwarming for me!

Some tropes:
-Slow burn
-Bickering pair (so much banter)
-Opposites attract (realist vs spiritual)
-Grumpy X Sunshine (reversed)
-Forced proximity

My favorite quote:
"You know," he muttered, "that little tantrum didn't really help the chihuahua comparisons."

I had the pleasure of receiving this book in exchange for my honest review. The story is about two very unlikely people, Sephie and Luke, being trapped in a magical mansion that has an attitude. Sephie is a self-proclaimed skeptic of all things paranormal, while Luke is able to communicate with the other side. With her petite frame, sharp wit (and even sharper tongue) Sephie is the perfect foil for Luke. He's tall, broad-shouldered and and boisterous, which is a good trait to have when dealing with a tiny spitfire such as Sephie.

From the beginning, their relationship is a mix of oil and water, but they're forced to put their differences aside and work together to defeat the most unlikely of opponents, a magical mansion called Ashland Manor. The house has so many tricks up its sleeve that if you blink you might find yourself in a very compromising position- literally! The characters are all intriguing in their own way- feisty Sephie, rambunctious Luke, as well Sephie's younger sister, Thalia, who brings her own wit and charm as well as love for romance and adventure. The sisters share an unmistakable bond which also helps Sephie during her battle with the manor. There's also Jace, the heartthrob whose face makes women want to swoon, but whose arrogant attitude makes everyone else want to rearrange his features for him.

The plot is pretty straightforward- a tv crew is assembled to explore a beautiful historical mansion that's rumored to be haunted. During filming, Sephie and Luke become trapped inside and have to put aside their almost instant dislike of each other in order to find a way out. The pacing of the story is good, there's plenty of action to keep you wanting to turn the pages, and once you reach the end of the story, you will find yourself missing this magical world. Ms. Casino's dialogue is realistic, snappy, and delivers on sarcastic turns of phrase. This book will appeal to a variety of audiences, especially those who love a tale of enemies to lovers, "will they or won't they?" and "if they do, will there be spice?" My answer is yes! There is spice and it's nicely done. Luke is considered a good cook in the kitchen, and let's just say his talents extend to other rooms as well....

I highly recommend this book because it's well-written, entertaining, and at many times, outright funny. You won't want to put it down. Thank you again, Ms. Casino, for another fun ride.

Such a fun ARC read ❤️
This book was absolutely adorable and very funny ❤️ The chapters are very short which makes reading this go by so quickly. All the characters are great and every personality, no matter how much time they really have talking in the story, stand out. Luke is such a great guy and Sephie, while prickly on the outside, is super funny in her sass. The whole mystery of the house was done well and I loved all the details. There were definitely some twists I didn't see coming as well. I would definitely recommend this book for a weekend read, especially for a sweat, spooky, October read. There are some minor grammer, spacing, and typo errors, but that will definitely be fixed by publication.

Third Person

Tropes:
Enemies to Lovers
Forced Proximity
Black Cat/Golden Retriever
Opposites Attract
Haunted House

This was such a cute, quick read, but I felt called out for being a creepy girlie. The story is a fun, cozy read that's perfect for grabbing your favorite blanket, a ghostie wine, and some desserts to snack on while you get comfy-cozy. Or, for the book peeps who like to read in the bath, this is one of those books.

The cast of this story was cute and quirky, and there was multiple times I was laughing out loud from their antics. The stars of the cast, Sephie and Luke are a cute, loveable pair of witty banter from beginning to end. The side characters made their own impressions, even with limited "screen" time. And the house itself was a character full of sass.

I definitely recommend this book for those looking for a cute, cozy paranormal romcom - great for starting off the spooky season.

This was a fun read. I loved the Banter back and forth between the FMC and the MMC and I really do love the sentient mansion especially with a touch of matchmaker. It's great seeing 2 stubborn characters slowly pull back the curtains on themselves and start coming to understand not only each other but a bit more of themself. And our poor FMC also just really doesn't believe in ghosts or mediums to get stuck in the sentient house with a medium. The rest of the group being stuck on the outside gives some great comedic relief to their poor situation. I would definitely read another story like this one from the author and I'm excited to see how the cover comes out. If you're looking for a story that is both funny with a touch of pulling the curtains back to better understand yourself and coming to terms with things that you once told yourself, you didn't believe in (this doesn't have to apply to only ghosts) I'd recommend this story.

I received this book as an ARC and I'm leaving this review voluntarily 💖

I don't have much to say, other than that it truly delivers on its promise. It's an entertaining, fast-paced, and comfortable read when you want something cheesy, sweet, and fun. I really like the dynamic between the protagonists, the whole thing about the sentient house trying to act as a matchmaker, and the couple who were originally the owners of the house filling the atmosphere with the deep love they felt.

The only thing that made me a little sad is that the mystery surrounding the house is resolved very quickly and without much complication. While I understand that wasn't the main focus, at that point, after all the complications, it feels a bit like, "That's it? Was it really that easy?"

That aside, it's truly a fun and enjoyable read 💖 Thank you so much!

ARC review :) This book is such a fun time! Haunted house rom com perfect for fall! Sephie is a paranormal investigator even though she is a firm non believer in anything spooky. On one of her cases she gets paired with a medium named Luke. Sparks fly and the haunted house they’re investigating agrees and locks them in together.
I really liked this book! The characters were really enjoyable and the setting was fun. The mystery surrounding the house was well done as well. I did not expect that part when I got this book. The romance aspect is there but it’s balanced well with the mystery.
I definitely recommend adding this book to your fall tbr!

this book had me kicking my feeling and squealing!
it was so cute and the story flowed so nicely! it wasn't a dramatic switch up for the characters either, it was a nice pace and the chemistry was palatable.
if your looking for a sweet little romance with a side of paranormal and sentient houses, your in for a treat with this book.

I would definitely read it over again and quite possibly kick my feet and squeal even more!

If you’re looking for a good romance/mystery to read in October this is the book. It has both Enemies to lovers AND ghosts? Yes please! If I had a list ranking everything paranormal ghosts would be #1. I absolutely devoured this book, between the insane plot and lovable characters I didn’t want this book to end. Kylie did such an amazing job writing this.

I received this as an arc, and I am grateful to have received this fun and quirky book!

Persephone, Sephie as she prefers, does not trust people, men, and most of all anything paranormal. With the passing of her grandmother and the major upset with her last relationship, 7 years ago, she is going back to the thing she once loved, but burned her terribly...paranormal historian.

Luke is a medium who is trying to fulfill the dream and wish of his cousin, who wanted to open a restaurant to share their love of cooking and family recipes. But it takes money, something that Luke is currently lacking! He doesn't charge for his gift, but he also is not trying to market it either.

The one thing both have in common is that they were sought out by a ghost-hunting show called Dead Serious to take part in the latest episode. Do either Luke or Sephie like the show? No. But do they need the money? Yes.

Ashland Manor has always been on Sephie's radar to explore, but with few avenues to gain access, using the show is a sure way to explore and debunk any rumors about the manor's paranormal vibe. Luke is there to be the ever-present medium needed for the episode, but what he didn't expect was to run into someone so against the supernatural as Sephie. Luke finds Sephie to be a yappy chihuahua, and Sephie rolls her eyes at the lumbering himbo! Great combination, right?

Their dynamic is what has triggered the house to become sentient, come alive, so to speak! Their first night at the manor, everyone, including the staff and cast of Dead Serious, decides to stay in the manor. What they didn't expect was for the house to kick everyone out, except for the skeptic and the medium. When Luke and Sephie wake up, they realize that to be free of the manor's hold, they must do the unthinkable and not only work together and become friends, but to satisfy the house's need to be a matchmaker!

This was a fun read full of antics, understanding, and even a bit of a mystery. I definitely am looking forward to more works from Nina. Well done!!

🌶️ .5
🥵 Spicy Chapters: 58
📚 Tropes/Themes: paranormal romance, meddling grandma match making house, hate to love, black cat x golden retriever, forced proximity, romantic suspense, banter, healing, protective MMC, he falls first
👀 Dual POV 3rd person
💔 Triggers: mentions of stalking, DV, death
🛍️ Available: 10/25

💬 This story was so adorable. It's been a hot minute since I've read a paranormal romance and I really enjoyed this one.

Honestly the house kept cracking me up with its matchmaking antics, and I thought that the enemies to lovers/hate to love trope was really well done. I feel like most of the time in books that say its enemies to lovers, it ends up being more irritation to love, but Sephie legit hated Luke 😂 there was so much snark I loved it. Excellent tension and banter as well.

I also really enjoyed the mystery that they were solving- it turned a little dark at first, but I did find the ending a little anticlimactic.

My only complaint was the constant references to how short she was. I realized that it was to emphasize how big he was in comparison to her, but... Yes, 5'2 is short but idk some of the wording made it sounds like there was something wrong with her being that height.

Other than that this is a cute read that's perfect for spooky season reading 👻

This is a super cute rom-com with good banter, a meddling haunted house and a good old-fashioned mystery needing solving.

Sephie is a supernatural investigator and Luke is a medium - a match made in heaven...NOT!
These two couldn't be more at odds and when both agree to guest star on a popular reality TV show with modern-day Ghostbusters wannabe's, things start to get interesting very quickly.
The antagonism these two have towards each other is very entertaining and they can't resist pushing each other's buttons. But when the supposedly haunted house they are supposed to be investigating suddenly decides to take a very active role in bringing Sephie and Luke together, we are in for a fun ride and the mystery the two of them need to get to the bottom of keeps us in suspense until the very end.

This was a fun read and a good time.

Arc Review
Yup! I read this book in one damn day! I was absolutely 100% sucked into this book! In this case, don’t judge a book by its cover. I love the cover, but it may be misleading to how this book is so incredibly good! Paranormal romance is an understatement! We have funny banter, forced proximity, sexual tension up the you know what! Sentient house? Like what the actual…..yes!!! I didn’t want the damn book to end!! Keep the paranormal coming!! There are intimate moments but it’s very vague in the details, if that is what you are used to and will only read. But I actually love sexual tension so the vague details don’t matter to me and definitely do NOT take away from the story! Absolutely do NOT pass up reading this book! Probably one of the best paranormal romance plots I have read to date! You don’t always the need fine bedroom details to make a book great!! I very much highly recommend this book! And now I will go mope because I want more of this type of book!
