Another wonderful read from Jessica Booth!
In this book we get a manbun (fans face), shenanigans, a dog, a cat, the inner workings of Mardi Gras in the South and some steamy bits to keep you warm on these brisk Fall nights we are having.
I can see Jessica coming into her own on this one.
The confidence in her writing has soared and she really created a touching and entertaining story.
Plus, I love a reverse age gap; so uncommon.
This is out today and I highly recommend everyone get your hands on it.
Much love to Jessica Booth for my eARC, always a joy to read your words!

Thank you @jessicaboothauthor for the gifted copy of this eARC!

Hallelujah, people! Jessica Booth has done it again! And dare I say Mardi Gras Meet Cute might just be my favorite yet! I don’t even know where to start because I know my words won’t do this one justice, but I’m certainly going to try. This small town utterly charming romcom gave me everything I wanted and more.

Lauren is a total BOSS. She’s smart, confident, and can absolutely do it all. Max is the local charmer with a complicated family history and a heart of gold. He gets roped into competing for the Mardi Gras crown by his mischievous grandmother. Naturally, competition means practice, and practice means sparks...and let me tell you, they FLY. Their chemistry was the perfect mix of sassy, sweet, and spicy. I smiled, I giggled, and there’s one hilarious car scene that made me want to hide under a rock on Lauren’s behalf (my actual worst nightmare, but it was comedic perfection). I couldn’t help but message Jessica immediately to tell her how brilliant it was!

I also adored the friendship between Lauren and Max’s cousin too! I’m such a sucker for women supporting women, and Jessica nailed that dynamic. And can we talk about how REFRESHING it was that this romcom didn’t end with the usual breakup or miscommunication trope? Just pure feel good romance that had me rooting for them the whole way through. They seriously are the cutest.

Jessica Booth truly wrote every detail to perfection. If you love Mardi Gras, king cake, small town charm, flirty banter, some open door spice, and all the bead throwing then Mardi Gras Meet Cute is your next read. I am over here jumping up and down, screaming from the rooftops! FIVE STARS FROM ME!

Read if you like:
- one small cabin
- mc in their 30s and 40s
- cutie pets

I ate this up. I absolutely adored Lauren and Max’s story. Lauren is a total boss babe who knows what she wants. Max and his audiobook narrator voice about did me in. They are both such lovable characters. I love a good he falls first, and boy will Maxie do just about anything for Lauren. Even play the long-game. The witty banter, plus the right amount of drama, and the INSANE chemistry make for a great read.

I love Jessica’s writing. She will always give you a HEA, but will really lean into the character’s struggles and growth in order to get there. She also writes the best female friendships. (And Lauren is right - it is difficult to make friends as an adult!)

If you’re in the mood to fall in love with the season of Mardi Gras, pick this up! I can promise a lot of fun, plenty of giggling and kicking your feet, maybe even some blushing, and a feel good ending with characters you will root for the whole way.

Okay, Jessica… Amelia and Rhett (I still love them!) were great, but Max and Lauren's story is now my favorite so far in this series.

Their story was so much fun to read. I didn’t know a lot about Mardi Gras, and the little details in this book gave me a mini lesson while I followed their story.

Lauren is the perfect boss babe—very dedicated to her job—but Max helps her realize that it’s okay to hand over the reins every once in a while. Max is the perfect book boyfriend, with the perfect narrator voice. And although he has the perfect narrator voice, chapter 23 had me fighting not to laugh out loud. It took all my self-control to stay quiet while sitting in the box blind out in the woods, trying not to scare off any deer.

The spice Jessica brought to their story? Chef’s kiss. And let’s not forget Mags, Max's dog—I always love the dogs that Jessica includes in her books.

I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow and seeing both characters develop throughout their story.

I was so excited to pick up this ARC by @jessicaboothauthor. I've read her others in the Ruston series and each time it's like coming back to a familiar small town that I've grown to truly enjoy, with characters that I feel like I know.

Ruston newspaper editor Lauren has the exact career she wants. At 40, she's built her career from the ground up and loves it, even though it interferes with her having a personal life. Enter Gladys to force her to make the time. As one of the papers biggest advertisers, her request for Lauren to be the Mardi Gras queen for the inaugural Ruston celebration is a proposition Lauren can't say no to. But it's a delightful surprise when Lauren sees the king is Max Beaumont, the man she accidentally had a meet cute with a month prior. 33 year old Max is a radio DJ who also loves his career, and is instantly drawn in by Lauren and wants to know her further. But the age gap bothers Lauren and she doesn't want to give up the career she's worked so hard for. Would Max ask her to? These two have a few hurdles to jump of they want to give a relationship a chance.

I really enjoyed learning more about the Mardi Gras culture from this. There were so many things I've heard of but never really understood, so that was super cool. Also, I really loved Max. Like so many male leads written by a woman, he's just dreamy with the "audiobook narrator" voice. I freaking loved that Jessica described it that way. I could hear it and 🔥🔥🔥🔥. All in all, another great read from Jessica!

THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING!!!!! Beautifully written, laugh out loud funny, and full of enough heart that you’ll feel transformed by the end. As their town launches its inaugural Mardi Gras Parade Lauren and Max have been thrown together as the first Queen and King of the Krewe. After an adorable meet cute their story just takes off!

Pick up this book if you love a badass FMC, an emotionally intelligent MMC, banter, reverse age gap, and want to fall in love with the magic of the season of Mardi Gras!!

✨ARC Review✨
Mardi Gras Meet Cute by Jessica Booth.
Publishing Date: October 13th! 🤩

4⭐️

Receiving this ARC and traveling back to this cutie town was so much fun. This is the 5th book in the Ruston Festival series, so get ready to see your beloved characters once again.

Lauren is a strong, independent woman who’s really made something out of her career as an Editor in Chief at the local newspaper. Think, BOSS LADY. Max is the local radio host who will do anything to make her smile. He’s charming, adventurous, and the perfect balance for her. Together they tackle the festivities of being King and Queen during the Mardi Gras season.

I adored these two and how relatable they were. Their banter is swoon worthy and so funny at times. I loved learning about the rich history of the Mardi Gras celebration in the South too. Jessica does a fantastic job writing depth for her characters, so you really get to know them and fall for them too. 💜💚💛

Lots of joy in this one. Also, can I get a piece of King Cake pronto?

Well Jessica Booth has done it again. Mardi Gras Meet Cute is my new favorite book from the Ruston Festival Series!!

📖Lauren Landau is the editor-in-chief of Ruston’s local newspaper. She is a boss babe who has earned every bit of success she has. Because of this success…dating, family and a social life have taken the back burner of the years. She ends up being asked to be the town’s Mardis Gras Queen for the Mardi Gras krewe and parade. Skeptical if she really has the time to take this on, she accepts the offer and all that comes with it.

Max Beaumont seems to go under “all that comes with it”. Max has the fun job of being a radio DJ in their small town. His charismatic personality has everyone entertained and goes by Beau Baxter when he is live. Max comes from a well to do family with a father who feels Max should get a “real” job.

Max is asked to be the Mardi Gras King and is quite taken with his new temporary queen. As soon as he sets his eyes on her, he makes sure to go out of his way to sweep Lauren off her feet. But when Max’s family and Lauren’s job try to make a wedge in this new connection that they have, will the sparks take fire or will they be snuffed out before they can even thrive?

📝This book was everything. Max was a shameless flirt who was even giving me butterflies. The way he “wooed” Lauren was nothing but romantic. I feel like they had this instant spark that just made the chemistry continue to build throughout the whole book. Lauren was an amazing boss babe who showed so much growth throughout the book as she learned to rely on others. One of the things that sets Jessica Booth’s books aside from others are her secondary characters. They just help make this book all that it is and I can’t wait to see what Jessica writes next!

Jessica's writing always brings a smile to my face. It's smooth, emotional, and full of life! This installment of the Ruston Festival Series has a forty-year old heroine which I LOVED! It's always nice to read a romance that doesn't follow the same predictable 30-year old.

I also knew NOTHING about the Mardi Gras culture so it was truly fun to get a glimpse into the festivities that surround this celebration. Masquerade Balls, Parades, and a fight over a King's Cake all await you in this book.

All the loveable characters from Jessica's previous book make a small appearance in this story, and that made me so happy too!!

I will always recommend Jessica's books and this one is no exception!! She's my favorite good-feel read!

This romance has everything you want in a light-hearted, breezy read!! The top notch banter between Max and Lauren will keep you turning the pages. Not to mention some seriously amusing scenes!

Lauren is a workaholic and has trouble relinquishing control. She works through this throughout the course of the story, but it’s Max support of her career that will make you smile. Another thing to make you smile: Max’s DJ voice!! … he learns new ways of using it… such as narrating a few spicy scenes from Lauren’s romance book…!

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quick, light read with good feels.

This book had me craving a King Cake and planning out where to set up on the neutral ground in order to get the best throws. As someone who has been to my fair share of parades, this was such a fun, cute romance to get you in the carnival spirit. This was the first time I read a book by Booth, but I definitely enjoyed it and would read more from this author. This is a story about a smaller northern Louisiana town that has decided to form it’s first Mardi Gras Krewe. And of course, because who doesn’t love a meddling, matchmaking grandma, the influential older woman has arranged it so that the overworked but attractive, single FMC and her sweet, single grandson have been chosen to be the King and Queen of the Krewe. One of the best things about this book is that it gives a little more in depth look at what actually happens with a Krewe during Carnival season. Most people think Mardi Gras is one parade on one day and that’s it. But the inner workings of a Krewe are much more. This book gives an inside look at that process.

The two main characters are absolutely wonderful in this cute contemporary romance. Lauren is a forty-year-old editor for the local newspaper. She has some trouble letting go, so she is often working late and basically missing out on life. She knows how important Gladys is to the success of the paper as one of its biggest advertisers, so she feels like she can’t say no when she is asked to be the queen of the Krewe for its first Mardi Gras. Max is Gladys’s grandson and he would do anything that his grandma asked him to. So the more laid-back radio DJ agrees to be the King of the Krewe. We as the readers get to watch as these two create a connection as the find themselves going through all of the requirements of them as king and queen.

This was a super cute slow burn romance based during the Mardi Gras season. There is definitely some spice once these two finally get together. I loved the events taking place in this book and it definitely had me in the Mardi Gras mood. This was the first book of this author’s I read, but I definitely need to go back and read the rest in this series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the 4th book in the Ruston Festival series and I’m once again obsessed! I may be biased because I know the author but I absolutely loved this book!

Lauren Landau the editor in chief of the Ruston newspaper, is the type to drop everything in her life to make sure the newspaper is running. Lauren has worked her entire life for this job and she’s not about to slack. When the town decides she is going to be the Queen of Mardi Gras festival she’s more than worried about how she’s going to have the time for this and work.
The King of the Mardi Gras festival is going to Max Beaumont, radio host loved by many. Max is handsome, outgoing and the perfect silly king to this whole festival.
As the two start to be pushed together more and more they realize maybe they are both missing something.

I absolutely adored this booked! You will learn all about the Mardi Gras festivals and what they entail. I’ve been craving a kings cake since I started this book! The witty banter between Lauren and Max is perfect. The spicy scenes are chefs kiss. We also get updates on the background characters we have all met already. You will love to see how Amelia and Rhett are doing 😍 Jessica Booth has made a southern version of Gilmore Girls 😘😍

Happy Pub Day my dear Jessica!!! I’m so incredibly happy this book is officially out in the world! It is your best writing yet, and the world needs to read about Lauren and Max. The banter, the beads, the king cake, and the dog hiking in a back pack. If that’s not enough to convince you to read this book, how about if I mention it was one of my top reads this year. I lost count how many times I screamed and kicked my feet. I even had to stifle my screams at SILENT book club bc this book made me so excited. So everyone do me a favor, go grab this book asap - Amazon, KU, or the bookery in Cincinnati. Believe me - you won’t regret it.

I received an ARC of this book.

Oh my goodness. Jessica Booth does it again with such an amazing heartfelt romance! Lauren and Max’s story was so much fun to read and the Mardi Gras spirit made me want to book a flight to New Orleans to celebrate and have some King Cake. I really loved both Lauren and Max’s characters. Their banter was so cute and they perfectly complemented each other. Their growth throughout the book was well written and really illustrated how that one person can really bring out the best in you and support change. This book and series is definitely one of my favorites. If you love small town romcoms, the Ruston Festival series is an absolute MUST read.

This book was fun with all the Mardi Gras references. Max and Lauren have a sweet meet cute and weeks of working together on Mardi Gras stuff. I liked that they became friends first and supported each other’s careers. Max is the perfect book boyfriend with his audiobook narrator voice and using her books to learn “things”. No miscommunication trope and no 3rd act break up! Woohoo!

I was so excited to receive this ARC and be transported back to Ruston with Lauren and Max in Mardi Gras Meet. This ‘meet-cute’ all starts with our favorite Ruston paper editor-in-chief and (new to us Ruston followers) radio personality, Max and a King Cake that turns into something more as they navigate beads, bears and family drama all set to the season of Mardi Gras.

Lauren and Max challenge one another, slowly open up and grow in ways that makes their romance feel genuine. It was also fun to see returning characters from the Ruston series. The Mardi Gras theme was especially fun, unique and made it stand out from other romances I’ve read.

Overall, Jessica balanced festivities with heart felt moments and great character banter while creating a fun story.

(3.5⭐️) Lauren is the editor-in-chief of the local newspaper. Her skill and dogged work ethic have earned the success she enjoys, but she’s currently lost to her career and unable to just enjoy life.

Max Beaumont isn’t just another DJ at the local radio station. He’s the favorite. But his power-hungry father can’t understand Max’s insistence on keeping a “lesser” job and is set on causing Max trouble until he comes to work for the family business.

They first meet at closing time at the local grocer as they both grab for the last king cake on the shelf. Their story could’ve ended there, but the magic of Mardi Gras (and Max’s grandma) had other ideas.

Mardi Gras Meet Cute is the fifth book in the Ruston Festival Series. It’s set in small town Louisiana and thrums with that close-knit community feel.

I didn’t grow up celebrating Mardi Gras, so I particularly enjoyed the asides within the storyline. Newspaper articles, blog posts, and interviews at the local radio station added context and served as a guideline for the festivities.

For me, the romance got off to a rocky start. Their inner monologues suggested that this was insta-love, and that’s not generally my jam. I prefer more of the push and pull with a rising build of angst. But around the 40% mark at the cabin in the woods, I began to warm to the romance. I appreciated the growth within the characters and the maturity within the communication. I also enjoyed watching them bring out the best in each other without expecting unrealistic changes.

The writing is simple, and there is some repetition. But the seasonal celebrations bring add magic to this insta-love romance, and the HEA satisfied and charmed.

Many thanks to @jessicaboothautor and @chapterswithchan for the free #gifted book.

This was such a cute romcom! It made me laugh and smile and I honestly wanted Max all to myself (step aside Lauren!) because he was super sweet, funny, and had a good head on his shoulders. Jessica knows how to write an adorable male character that you just can’t help falling for too! The witty banter was so good, and I loved how independent Lauren was. I was definitely a little jealous of her in that way. The theme around Mardi Gras was so fun too, I’ve never really seen that done before. Overall, this is a solid romcom that deserves every bit of attention!

🏡Small town Louisiana

Career focused Lauren is editor in chief of the local newspaper. Max is a DJ at the local radio station under the pseudonym Beau Baxter. They have a chance encounter at a grocery store but it’s not long before a meddling Grandma Gladys (who I love) brings them back in each other’s orbit for a Mardi Gras krewe aka a large party and ball for Mardi Gras season! She ropes them in to being the king and queen of Ruston’s first Mardi Gras ball.

Lauren is an avid romance book reader (love the use of her listening to audiobooks in the story because audiobooks ARE reading) and seeks her happily ever after from fictional stories. But it’s not long before Max is working his way from a new friendship to more in her life. I love that Max is tattooed and while he loves a good challenge with a woman, also respects them and their boundaries.

I loved the witty dialogue, well thought out plot and lovable characters. The family drama was written with just the right level of tension. The chemistry and spice are sooo good. One aspect of the plot that I found so true to real life is Lauren making friends as an adult because that can always be so awkward and hard!

I loved every second of this one and cannot wait for Jessica’s next book.

I read an early copy of this book (but also already have a physical copy preordered).

A very happy Pub Day to Jessica Booth today!

"And my heart flutters, just like the endearment he's given me."

Without a doubt, this is one of my favourite books of 2025. In addition to the fact that it’s written by a near and dear book bestie, this book somehow managed to deliver every single thing that I enjoy in a beautiful, colourful, delicious, sequinned package. It was so evident that Jessica poured her heart and soul into this book, and I just cannot give this enough stars. All I’ll say is, go read it now and laissez les bon temps rouler!

Synopsis

Lauren Landau has fought hard for her success as the editor-in-chief of Ruston’s local newspaper, despite every man she’s ever dated trying to push her into a supporting role. Now almost forty, single, and happy, she couldn’t care less if her personal life is a little lacking.

Meanwhile, Max Beaumont—or Beau Baxter to his adoring radio listeners—thrives on the airwaves and oozes cool guy vibes. Though his charm keeps the people of Ruston entertained, his biggest critic comes from within his family and makes it incredibly hard for him to find true happiness.

What starts as a missed connection over the last king cake blossoms into a whirlwind romance, a journey of challenges, and the town’s first-ever Mardi Gras Meet Cute!

It is a couple of years ago that I’ve read an English romance book (as a Dutch girl), but I was happy that I got the chance to read ‘Mardi Gras Meet Cute’ written by Jessica Booth. The book will be released on October 13th.

First of all: Wow!
Second: Wow, wow, wow! Let me tell you that I’ve put all other books of Jessica Booth on my giant TBR list! At first I thought that some of the activities in the book were difficult to understand, as we don’t celebrate Mardi Gras (or something like that) in the Netherlands. But Jessica Booth took me on a tour through the whole Mardi Gras spectacle.

She explained all the days prior to the Mardi Gras parade and made me feel the vibe of the festivities. Besides that, the main characters are so well described, that it seems like they are your friends. I liked Lauren, as a strong independent woman, who seems like she doesn’t need anyone. But after all, everyone needs friends. And Max... While reading I almost heard his voice (which was called a sexy audiobook narrator).
But the one I really loved was Gladys (Max’ grandma). Her way of making both the lives of Lauren and Max better by introducing them, like she’s a matchmaker!

This book makes me want to read more of these books (especially from this author!).

This meet cute is really freaking cute!

Tropes:
🎭 Radio DJ x Newspaper Editor
🎭 Mardi Gras King and Queen
🎭 Forced Proximity
🎭 Strangers to Friends to Lovers
🎭 Meddling Grandma
🎭 Family Drama

Max and Lauren meet as strangers over the last king cake at the grocery store. They never thought they’d see each other again when they’re voted in for the Mardi Gras king and queen for Max’s grandma’s new krewe. Max wants to date her. Lauren only has time for work. Max’s family is drama. Can they figure out how to make it work?

I jumped on this right away, because some of my fondest memories of living in Baton Rouge was experiencing Mardi Gras. This book is as cute as it looks, with some unexpected drama mixed in. I loved how competitive and silly Max and Lauren could get. How Lauren validated Max by encouraging him to just be him, and how Max showed Lauren to slow down a little and not give everything to work. These two were a lot of fun.

🌶️🌶️

Thank you, Jessica, for sending me a copy of this book!

**I received an advanced copy of this book to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own!

This book was everything I love about Jessica Booth's writing and more! She makes you fall in love with her characters, really makes you empathize with their struggles, and gives you the best HEA.

All it took was two chapters and I was hooked. Lauren is everything you expect from someone who spent their life making a name for themselves and now wants more. And Max... Oh boy, he was ready to give our leading lady whatever she wanted.

There's so much that happens but in a way that has to not wanting to put down the book. Not once did it feel overwhelming. And readers get to learn about Mardi Gras traditions in a way that is fun but informative!

I giggled, swooned, and kicked my feet at every turn of a page. Jessica is a genius and once you enter her world, you won't want to leave.

I don’t remember exactly how I found The Spite Before Christmas, which was the first book I read by Jessica Booth, but I’m so glad I did. Through it I followed her on Insta, I LOVED that book, and knew I would want to read any other books she wrote. I got to know her a little bit through DM’s and there were parts of those conversations that resonated here in this book, Mardis Gras Meet Cute.
This book is that… cute and fun and relatable. I love that Jessica’s FMC’s are “older” and the workaholic aspect of a 40 yo woman definitely hit home. I loved Lauren’s independence and recognition of her self worth. I love how Max was working things out but in the end supported the best parts of Lauren and allowed her to have fun and shine.
This book was just a really fun read and I’m super proud of Jessica for putting this out in the world!

I can’t say enough about this book. I fell in love with the main characters. The female main character Lauren is a strong independent woman who knows what she wants in career but unexpectedly stumbles upon a man who makes her realize that she wants more to life than just work. I love a strong female lead! And Max, oh Max! He is instantly lovable. I love his alternative rock DJ persona. I fall for a man that loves all things Nirvana and not to mention the nerd gummy clusters! The back and forth banter is something that always makes me laugh as that’s something in my husband and i’s relationship that is still going strong after almost 10 years of marriage. Jessica has truly outdone herself on this book and I am truly excited to devour her next novel.

I loved this!! I met Jessica at an author signing a couple weeks before I headed to New Orleans on my honeymoon and when I heard that she was releasing a book centered around Mardi Gras I knew I had to have it!

I adore these characters and the way this book felt different than your typical romance. First, the characters were actually mature and not fresh out of college babies, which was a nice change. Getting to see the progress Lauren makes in her personal life was something I think a lot of people can relate to. It was depicted beautifully! And this man Max! He is down. Bad. This man had me laughing out loud and swooning over the way he would do anything for his women.

How I loved this book! Lauren and Max (main characters) had me laughing and swooning the entire time.

I absolutely love when characters in a romance book are in their 30s and 40s. Throw in a little age gap (he’s in his early 30’s, she’s 40) and I’m a happy camper.

Speaking of camping, Max is the perfect book boyfriend. He has a passion for camping and a golden retriever sweetness that warmed my heart.

Lauren and Max have so much fun together in every scene. So as a result, I had so much fun reading this!

I knew close to nothing about Mardi Gras going in, but now I know about king cakes.

No offense to Amelia and Rhett but Max and Lauren are my new favorite Ruston Festival Couple.

I really enjoyed everything about this book from the "missed connections" meet cute and the Mardi Gras event itself. I love the chemistry between Max and Lauren.

Jessica knows how to create wonderful characters, write a sweet, cozy and small town vibes story. The conflicts in the story are not to heavy either. I wish the ending didn't come too quick. I wanted to experience Mardi Gras and I read more about Max and Lauren outside Mardi Gras.

@jessicaboothauthor has done it again! The Spite Before Christmas was one of my favorites last year and Mardi Gras Meet Cute is just as good!

Lauren and Max's story will have you laughing and keep you reading late into the night. This one has it all, banter, humor, vivid imagery, love, and characters that you will remember!

It releases on October 13th, so why don't you go ahead and pre-order it?! You know you want to 😃
