Bad English: You know the official language. Now learn the unofficial one

Rate this book
This book contains strong language which some may find offensive. This is not a book for children.

You have studied English for years. You know the grammar and a good range of vocabulary, and have no problem conversing with second-language speakers. But then there are the Americans, Australians, New Zealanders, and of course, the British.

What language are they speaking?

If conversations with mother-tongue speakers leave you confused, then this is the book for you. With a focus on British English, Bad English unlocks the secrets of colloquial language, revealing the phrases natives use to express feelings, tell stories, complain about stuff, insult each other, avoid work – and above all, make each other laugh.

Designed for upper-intermediate to advanced learners and those taking IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge exams, Bad English is the perfect book to build your confidence in spoken English.

With this book, you will have the power Break through the language barrier with words and expressions spoken by British people today, along with activities to memorise them.Immerse yourself in topics overlooked by textbooks, including phrases to complain, insult, date, deal with work problems and entertain friends.Understand once and for all how bad language works, with definitions, a swear word strength key, use-cases and word combinations.Perfect your pronunciation with our guide to soft syllables, which natives omit for sentence flow.Laugh! (hopefully) with pages of comic illustrations, bringing context to expressions and your new vocabulary to life.

Hello there and thanks for stopping by. My name is Andromeda and I am a writer and online ESL teacher living in Scotland. I am passionate about languages and through my books I have two goals.

Goal one is to help people without a TEFL qualification, or those new to the profession, teach English, either as a side hustle or a fulltime profession. My book, The Ultimate ESL Teaching Manual offers hundreds of fun, effective lessons covering every grammar point, helping tutors to craft quality ESL classes with minimal effort and keep their students coming back for more.

For a deeper dive into ESL materials, check out the other books in the series: The Ultimate Teaching ESL Online Manual and The Ultimate ESL Vocabulary Manual.

Goal two is to help ESL learners break out of ‘grammar book’ English and speak naturally with the comprehensive English language book, Next Level English: 50 Lessons to improve your English conversation. Next Level English is packed full of real-world vocabulary and advanced grammar, plus exercises to help learners reach their fluency goals – all in one easy-to-use manual.

Languages are tons of fun, boost confidence and can earn you a good living.

Thanks for reading and enjoy your new talent!

Excellent livre !
At last, The Book I have been looking for for so many years! It’s got it all with the vocabulary and expressions we need to communicate in English in the Real life. This is the real stuff, exactly what you need to communicate in English with your friends, colleagues and the people you meet when you travel. It covers all the topics of the everyday life over 12 chapters with plenty of examples and funny illustrations that help to remember the vocabulary and expressions easily. Definitely a Must-have and Must-Offer!

This book is incredibly good!
If you want to know the expression native speakers use and sound more natural when you speak, this book is the right choice. Moreover it's written in a funny and relaxed way with amazing drawings.
I am thrilled by this book.
