Screen Shot: A Second Chance, Secret Baby, Hockey Romance

Rate this book
One night behind a mask.
A secret I swore I’d never tell.
Now the man from the masquerade is my patient—
And he has no idea he’s the father of my child.

I thought I left that night behind.
One night that branded my soul, gave me my daughter…and a secret I swore I’d never tell.

But when Seth Kane storms into my clinic—injured, restless, furious—my world tilts.
The chemistry is instant. Dangerous.
And terrifyingly familiar.

I fight to keep my distance.
He’s off-limits.
My patient. My brother’s teammate.

Until he strips off his shirt.
And I see the tattoo.
The same one I traced with trembling fingers the night that changed my life.

He can’t know the truth.
Every boundary shatters.
Every fear detonates.

Because the father of my child is standing in front of me—
And when he learns the truth, I could lose him forever.

Screen Shot is a steamy, standalone hockey romance (Book 4 in The Power Plays Series) featuring a secret baby, brother’s teammate, one-night stand, forbidden love, forced proximity, and second chances. Each standalone in this series has its own happily ever after.

Emma and Seth . . .

Emma Harris’ memory returned to a ballroom that glittered like a fairy tale. And wearing a mask had helped her enjoy that night. A tall, broad-shouldered man stepped up beside her at the champagne table. His eyes were amazing. He commented that she seemed to be planning an escape route, which was actually very accurate… but he asked her to stay. They talked like old friends and laughed together. And when he asked her to dance, they were perfect partners. He invited her to go to his hotel room with him; she hesitated, but then agreed. They kept their masks on, but again, they were perfect together as they felt connection, completion, and a feeling like coming home to someone they had been searching for their entire lives… He whispered about second chances and asked her to stay and not disappear on him. But when she woke, the reality of what they had shared made her panic and she ran. Six weeks later, the test revealed she was pregnant with Lily.

They moved to Denver when Lily was 2-1/2 years old. Miss Jenny would be Lily’s babysitter while Emma started her new job at Summit Sports Medicine Clinic. Her training and published research on post-surgical shoulder rehabilitation had apparently caught their attention. She had been living with her brother Jake whose protectiveness was driving her crazy. So when he was traded to the Denver Hawks, she moved with him but got her own apartment. The most important thing she packed was the masquerade photo of Lily’s father. She just could not forget him and began to cry.

Jessica Stark, the clinic director, welcomed Emma the next day. She said they worked with hockey, football, and soccer players as well as individual athletes, weekend warriors, and regular folks who want to get back to their lives. And Emma’s research was why they needed her. Jessica gave her a thick folder of patient files to work on. She was enjoying her work until the next patient, Seth Kane, arrived. The woman waiting to treat him was definitely familiar but he couldn’t remember where he knew her from. But she also seemed to recognize him and quickly walked into the treatment room. She summarized his injury, not trying to dumb it down. She described his situation exactly, and also mentioned his lack of progress. He wouldn’t be able to fool this woman and insisting he wouldn’t take his shirt off was not appreciated. So she checked his range of motion with his shirt on… for now. She didn’t fight him about things, but offered patient acceptance to wait until he was ready for more.

Eventually, she realized Seth was her mystery man from the masquerade… and the father of her little girl. And the chemistry they shared that night is still there for her. Can she keep her secret from him? Or will she tell him the truth and introduce him to Lily? Will the love for his child help him heal from the agonizing loss of his sister?

This is my first experience with this author. I love a good hockey romance but I feel like this one was a little misleading as there was no hockey actually involved. He was a hockey player but he was out with an injury. Although the team/family support system was there.

This was a shortish story about our hot hockey player, Seth, who is out due to an injury in his shoulder and his physical Therapist, Emma. Who also is the sister of one of Seth’s team mates.

They meet at a masquerade ball, no names, no numbers exchanged, just one unforgettable night full of passion and one surprise baby.

3 years later and Emma packs up her and her daughter and moves to be closer to her brother. Little does she know she is treating her daughter’s father. They hit it off and Seth pursues her but she is hesitant because single mom life isn’t glamorous and most men bail when things get hard.

They both as if they know each other but can’t place it. Until one session Seth takes off his shirt and his tattoo brings everything back and Emma melts down and runs out of the building.

I loved these characters and would have liked to see this as a full novel at least another 100 pages so we could have gone a little more in depth. I felt like some of the story was rushed. And some of the reactions weren’t always explained.

I got a general sense of the characters but it would have been nice to get to know them more. Especially Jake, Emma’s brother. At the end he proposes to his girlfriend which there was no mention of at all throughout the book.

Overall it was a good story and I enjoyed it.

This book started out great. Emma and Seth were super cute together. But it totally just crashed during chapter 17 and 18. Chapter 14 Seth figures out and has a whole discussion with Emma about him figuring out she is the girl from the masquerade charity event. But chapter 17 when shit hits the fan about Seth being Lily's father, he acts shocked when Emma apparently needs to readdress that she's the girl from 3 years ago. Seth has been nothing but sweet the whole time. But now chapter 17 he turns into a complete asshole. It just doesn't make sense. My head is spinning. I had to go back to chapter 14 to make sure the masquerade thing actually happened. Yup it was there. Then the whole angry sex and just nastiness from Seth was completely out of left field. Also the whole she knew for 3 years. WTF, Emma knew Seth was the dad for 1 month. was it messed up, absolutely . Did the author wait until chapter 17/18 to add all sorts of angst. Yes, it totally feels like an afterthought. Plus all the kid math wasn't constant. Lily was 2.5 years old. You did not miss out on 3 years. You both wore masks and never exchanged names. To have the MMC bitch so loudly about all that time when it didn't exist pissed me off.

I seriously enjoyed this cute quick read, until chapter 17. But why did things go so off rails at the very end that made no sense. Because of that fiasco, I didn't even care about their HEA. i

Seth and Emma's Story

This is a story about a single mother who reconnects with her dream one night stand who unknowingly made her a mother.
Seth Kane is a professional hockey player who is recovering from an injury abs surgery. He has never fully recovered emotionally from an accident that occurred 8 years ago, details disclosed later in the book.
Emma Harris is a physical therapist who has recently relocated to Denver, where her brother plays hockey with Seth. She is a single mother, having had a ONS at a masquerade charity gala, leaving before the guy woke up, then learning that she was pregnant.
As luck would have it, Emma is the physical therapist who is assigned to treat Seth. There is an immediate attraction, but she tries to stay professional.
The book takes a dark turn when Emma realizes that Seth is the mystery father of her daughter, but refuses to tell him.
Emma's reaction makes it difficult to like or understand her reaction. Seth is a sympathetic character throughout the book.

I love all things Leighton Grace, and this does not disappoint!! Emma had a one night stand at a Masked Ball, and felt a true connection; but snuck out in the morning. She never forgot that night, or the unnamed man; and the pregnancy that resulted! Her little girl Lily, is her life. Emma takes a new job at Summit Sports Medicine Clinic as their new physical therapist. The job takes her closer to her brother Jake. One of her patients is Seth Kane, her brother's best friend. As she touches Seth, as part of her job, she feels electricity; why? Months later as Emma needs Seth to take his shirt off for therapy, she goes white, and almost passes out. That tattoo she has seen before, on her one night stand (with her brother's best friend)!! What should she do, tell him; what about Lily? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Leighton Grace!!!

Emma went to a mask party ,there she met a guy which she slept with, she didn’t know his name not even his face, she only knows that his eyes are blue.she kept a photo of that night the only
evidence .
After 3 years,She came in Denver on her own, because on the past she lived with her brother, now she’s a single mother the evidence of that night . She was going to start working at summit sports medicine clinic.
When Seth went in the Therapy room and heard his name called from the blonde new therapist he felt that he knew the person, when she introduced herself and touched his hand he felt electricity through his arm.
He felt connected to her and when he met her 2 year old daughter, he felt home.

A wonderful book, a second chance story that who will read it, will going to like for sure.

A chance meeting at a masquerade ball leads to consequences for both Emma and Seth. She finds out she is pregnant after their encounter but doesn’t even know his name. Three years later they are brought together when she s his new physical therapist. Something seems familiar for both of them but it isn’t until he finally takes his shirt off for a session that her world comes crashing down. Will her secret push him away forever or will true love win out? This was such an amazing, emotional love story. I absolutely loved it. I really enjoyed the book.

Emma & a man met at a masquerade ball, where they had an amazing night together.

But Emma was scared to stay, so during the night, she left.

Now three years later, she’s raising her 2,5 year old daughter Lily. She moves and gets a new job.

Her first patient is hockey player Seth with his shoulder injury. Why does it feels like she have met him before? And all the sparks.
And why doesn’t Seth want to remove his shirt? What is he hiding??
And what happens when he finally removes it??

This is not focused on hockey or sports. It’s more of rehabilitation and to trust someone. And betrayal.

It’s a really good book, highly recommend.

Emma and Seth meet at a masked party and had a one nighter. She leaves and finds out later she’s pregnant with her daughter. Then she relocated to be closer to her bro, who plays hockey. She is at her new job, as a physical therapist when Seth walks in needing help. She tries to be professional and fight her attraction. But when she sees the tattoo, and realizes he’s (Lily) her daughter’s father she almost 1passes out. The emotional, connection these two have for each other makes a good read.

This book had so much potential. Truly. I was hooked from the first chapter, but somewhere along the way, it lost its footing.

My biggest issue is the 2.5-year-old who talks like a 6-year-old. I get that she’s smart, but the dialogue felt too mature to be believable. Then there’s the babysitting situation… a complete stranger watching her sick child? Absolutely not.

The foundation of this story is strong, and the emotional core is there. But the little details matter, especially when kids are part of the plot. With a bit more finesse and realism, this could easily be a 4–5 star read.

At a mask ball Emma and Seth meet and have a one hot sexy night. No names, no face, juts memories and a gorgeous reminder.
Fate steps in and when the two meet again, Emma realises the hot one night is her brother’s best friend and hockey team mate.
The chemistry is hot, but a secret, could bring makes this hot romance become every thing.
Drama, heat and great characters.

A chance encounter has lasting consequences for Emma, but she doesn’t regret it. A few years later, when she “meets” Seth again, the chemistry is still there. I loved the second chance that these get and couldn’t put the book down.

Emma and Seth and their second chance- emotional and heartwarming read. But I would say that my favourite character was Lily. Maybe because her parents were both too scared of life and their past trauma.

Hockey romance

One night and a random hookup leads to mixed feelings and two pink lines. This was a cute little read. There's no actual hockey played just sports rehab for said hockey players. I'd say a 3.5 and 1 star for spice.

*** ARC review ***

If your favorite tropes are single mother, forbidden romance, second chance sprinkled with a little bit of hockey romance then add this to your list!

I devoured Emma and Seth’s story! Even if it's a dual POV, the story is mostly focused on Emma and her struggles of being a single mother while trying to build a life for her daughter. I absolutely loved how Leighton wrote the scenes with the daughter, they were my favorite scenes! I recommend this book to everyone!
