When Australian physical therapist Sam Nash breaks her own cardinal rule during a whirlwind night in Vegas, she wakes up married to a charming stranger who vanishes before sunrise. Back in Atlanta, she’s stunned to discover “Matthew” is actually Colin Thicke, the Granite rugby team’s new head coach, her brother’s mentor, and her soon-to-be boss.
Colin’s entire life has been built on control and a spotless reputation, and a surprise wife could destroy both. Sam’s worked too hard to be taken seriously to risk it all for a man who ran. But secrets, chemistry, and the Granite’s girl gang don’t play by anyone’s rules. Especially Sam and Colin’s.
This was such a fun, easy read and I flew through it. The rugby setting was actually really refreshing, & you don’t need to know anything about the sport to enjoy it. The team vibes were great and the whole story just had that mix of tension, humor, and drama that keeps you hooked. Sam was definitely my favorite, she felt super real and I loved seeing her slowly find herself again and get her confidence back.
The romance had really good chemistry, especially with the whole Vegas situation. The tension between Sam and Colin was there, and I liked watching them try to figure things out. I do wish we got a bit more depth in their relationship because at times it felt a little surface level, but I was still invested. Overall, it’s a really enjoyable, feel-good sports romance that’s perfect if you want something light but still a little emotional❤️🏉
A quick, easy read that kept me interested, but didn’t fully land for me. I liked the premise and the team dynamic, and I appreciated that the rugby setting was accessible even without knowing much about the sport. Sam was the standout here. She felt strong, capable, and real, and I especially liked how her story explored losing confidence in a relationship and slowly finding her way back to herself. 💛
I struggled more with the central relationship. While there was clear chemistry, it felt underdeveloped outside of that, and I never fully bought into them as a couple. I kept wanting more depth, more time together, and more reasons to root for them beyond the physical connection. Overall, a light, readable story with some strong elements, but I was left wishing for a bit more substance. Three stars. ✨

One drunken night in Vegas and Sam wakes up alone in bed and married. Surely that was bad enough until she gets to Atlanta to find out her disappearing groom is her new boss, coach of the Atlanta professional rugby team. The characters in the story override the potential trite cringiness, despite the fact that the groom is a little too scared of his boss. Sam's brother, Ollie, is one of the best players on the team and in the story. A fun read with a ton of spice. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
In this book we get a fun and flirty meet cute date in Las Vegas that ends with coin flips and a marriage. What follows are the choices a scared Collin made and whether or not him and Sam have a shot together. I really wanted to shake Collin throughout this! Sam definitely deserved to be loved out loud, not a dirty secret.
The best part about this book though is that both characters are NORMAL, and dare I say...average? I love when the main characters are more believable and not perfect.
╔════════════════════════╗ 💕✨ 𝓟𝓻𝓮-𝓡𝓮𝓪𝓭 ✨💕 ╚════════════════════════╝ Thank you to netgalley, Stafford Lane Publishing, and Valerie Pepper for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Honestly Sam and Colin were so cute together and i love the married in vegas trope. At first i was annoyed by how they would dance around one another. but having them end up in the same area and being forced to work around one another was entertaining. Sam is such a strong FMC and you really get to see her thrive on her own and grow. I adored Colin as the MMC and i loved how much he adores sam and really loves her. I was wondering how she would come from australia and how that would all work out.
Thank you to NetGalley and author/publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review!

Overall Rating: 4/5⭐️ Spice Level: 3/5🌶️ Tropes: Vegas Marriage, Players Sister/Coach Synopsis: Sam and Colin meet on their respective solo trips to Vegas. In an effort to break some of their self-imposed rules, they let lose for the night — only to end up married! Now, Colin is the new head coach of the rugby team Sam just joined as a physical therapist. They haven’t talked since the wedding and are still practically strangers. Characters: ** Colin - The new head coach of the Atlanta Granite. He comes from a rough background but is doing everything he can to support his mom and sister. He’s honestly a golden retriever of a human being. He is so controlled in his life and Sam is the first person to make him feel out of control. I loved Colin, he’s a sweetheart and the ideal romance man! ** Sam - Independent and strong newly hired physical therapist for the Atlanta Granite. Sam is such a good FMC, she is strong and independent but not in a way that’s over done. She knows when to fall back on her friends and family for support but also knows when to stand up for herself. Likes: ** THE TROPE: I LOVE THE VEGAS MARRIAGE TROPE. I haven’t read a lot of books that do it well, but this one did. Enough of the opening was dedicated to it and the build up to their wedding was like romcom movie montage worthy! ** Colin YEARNS. They may be married within the first few pages of the book but he has to fight for her attention. I love men who yearn and are willing to put it all out on the table for the woman they love. Colin teaches a masterclass in winning a girl back. Dislikes: ** Sam’s best friend is kind of infuriating. She is the head of PR and def cares more about her job than about her best friend. This is such a small thing but i just hate when besties aren’t there for each other. she does redeem herself by the end! ** Siblings calling each other bro and sis. this is such a personal pet peeve but it drives me insane. i’ve never called my brother bro or big brother and would probably die before i ever did
I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. This was an easy read and different for me. I have never read another rugby sports romance so this was a very nice change for me and absolutely loved it. The chemistry between the FMC and MMC was adorable she is a strong FMC and he adores her! Love the Vegas marriage!!

Why you'll love this book:
♣️ Married in Vegas ♥️ He’s the team coach, she’s the team PT ♠️ Forbidden workplace romance ♦️ Player’s sister ♣️ Forced proximity ♥️ Found family ♠️ Angsty”
This was my first read by Valerie Pepper (but not really because of course I borrowed the first in the series via KU before I even attempted to read this story lol), and I didn’t go into it with any expectations. I loved the cover. That’s it. That’s what sold me. *shrug*
First and foremost, 👏❤️👏#coverwin👏❤️👏
Now, about this story … Colin (MMC) tested me. Sam (FMC) tested me. Here’s the thing, if I say that the story was okay for an afternoon read, but I wanted to throat punch our main characters thru a lot of this story, is that enough of a review? LOL Colin was seriously on my last nerve with the whole back-n-forth and Sam just took it way more than she should have. When that happens, how in the world am I to believe that these two will live happily ever after. The point of romance fiction is to “believe”. Amirite?! I’m not doing more detail on that because it should be self-explanatory.
Now, let’s say that we didn’t have to wait 84 years for these two to get their act together. Then, this is a 4 to 5 star read. LOL Because the story going on around them with the secondary characters stole the show. They (Sam & Colin) just did not add to the fun-ness (mostly).
Okay, those are my 2 cents on this story. Do with them as you will!
Physical therapist Sam has one rule: 1 drink only! Coach “Matthew” Colin Thicke has one rule: 2 drinks only!
Countless drinks after and a few coin tosses later... Rules were most definitely broken.
But what happens in Vegas... Apparently follows you home! And I do mean follow because Matthew, that was so not very mature of you 😂🫣
This is an easy breezy read for a nice spring day 😁
I loved Sam. She was the brightest spot in this romance for me. She was just everything I love and wish for in a FMC. She was strong, fierce, independent but with a great group of people that she let in. She knew where she stood and delivered big time.
When @authorvaleriepepper was seeking Arc readers for her new rugby romance, I was so intrigued and gladly signed up! Tbh I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did!!
when I got this book I didn’t realise that it was the second in a series, however this worked well as a standalone novel. I will definitely go back and read the first book in the series because I want to know more about the characters.
This book starts with our main characters meeting in Vegas and getting married on a whim…We then follow the drama that unfolds from this heat of the moment decision!
This book is funny, sexy and easy to read also it doesn’t matter if you don’t know anything rugby (like me). The no try zone was released on 1 May and is available on Kindle unlimited. Thank you so much to Valerie for providing me an earc of this book.
Valerie Pepper is my comfort author. I always know everything she writes will be a 5 star. I love this series so much. It’s rugby, which isn’t a sport I see a lot of in the romance genre, which I appreciate! I read only romance so reading a new sport is one of my favorite things! You don’t need to know a lot about rugby to read this series.
This book had me laughing out loud and giggling. I love Sam so much because she reminds me of myself in a way. Sam is confident and so sure of herself and even when her confidence falters, she stands on her own two feet. Colin loves control and it makes for an enemies to lovers of sorts and I ate that upppp!
The world-building, friendships, and relationships in this book are just fantastic! This series is one of my absolute favorites, and I adore these characters!
Thank you to Valerie, and Luna for the advanced copy! All thoughts are my own.
This is book 2 in this series, so for the full character experience, ur gonna wanna read in order cause they are interconnected characters
Sam wakes up in a hotel from one drunken weekend in Vegas and sees a ring on her finger and knows she got married, but she can't remember to who only a name Matthew. But when she goes back to work, she finds her missin husband in Vegas is her new boss, he is the new rugby head coach, and she is the physical therapist. Sam's brother Ollie's mentor is his sister's new husband. This marriage is a PR nightmare they both want a divorce, but it isn't so easy to do, but they have this push and pull chemistry between them. This is a good book, and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Another delicious Valerie Pepper novel, full of big ol’ hot rugby men, women who are strong and smart and self-assured, and a love story that had me clutching my chest like I could physically stop the angst these characters were inspiring. The No Try Zone is Book 2 in the Atlanta Granite Series, and it focuses on the new Head Coach, Colin Thicke (well done, Ms. Pepper), and the new Physical Therapist, Sam Nash. (Sam’s brother is Ollie Nash, an impressive player.) Once again, there is tons of friends-as-family goodness, self-preservation that might actually be a bit of self-destruction, and spice that will melt your pants.
I typically do not love a secret marriage/marriage-in-Vegas trope, but dangit, Valerie Pepper got me right away with this one! Sam and Colin are two strangers at a bar in Vegas. They each have rules that they live by in order to stay in control. They are each embarking on new jobs and feel the pressure - both external and internal. Sam is in the States along with her brother, leaving their mum in Melbourne, trying to make their lives across the world work, and still struggling with the absence of their father. Colin is struggling under similar weight - he’s left his ailing mother and sister in Vermont for this new job. His boss (the owner of the Granite) has made it clear that he has one year to take the team to the championship or he’s fired, so he cannot afford to be anything but focused. So our story begins with two people about to start new jobs and new lives in a new city, struggling under pressure, and feeling pretty alone, sitting next to each other at a bar in Vegas. Their attraction is immediate - and it’s not just physical attraction. Over the course of a night, these two realize they connect deeper. And as they embrace their night of fate-inspired adventure, their hilarious hijinks lead them to a group of Elvis impersonators and a marriage certificate.
But when Sam wakes in the morning, she is alone with a ring on her finger and no way to contact her husband. And no, we’re not including the, ahem, photo on her phone. When these two come face-to-face at the team bbq, sparks fly, but not the fun kind. Sam feels blindsided and betrayed, and Colin feels blindsided and horrible. How can they work together, ensuring they adhere to team policies, do their best at their jobs, and fight this undeniable attraction to each other?
Holy smokes, friends. Valerie Pepper can write a spicy scene. Colin Thicke knows what he’s doing on and off the rugby pitch. These scenes legit had me sweating, and not just from perimenopause! Thick rugby thighs is a thing (look it up) and Coach Thicke has not only the physical goods, but also loves Sam for her strength, her sass, and her true self. He knows where he went wrong with her, but manages to continue to screw things up in the most infuriating way possible.
As for Sam, her fight to not lose herself in an attempt to hold onto love hit so close to home. I think it’s a universal struggle for so many women, and I felt such a kinship to Sam as she battles through gender inequality in the workplace, balancing adult relationships with siblings, and the need to be strong but also soft with your girlfriends. Her circle of women is small and fierce, and their love often feels combative, especially with her best friend, Kari. I love this relationship because so often our friendships as women encompass all the needs - sister, nurturer, hype-woman, therapist, and enforcer. Yes, the relationship between Sam and Colin is front and center, but the relationship between Sam and Kari is so nuanced and painful. Friendships between women are sometimes more intimate and fraught than romantic relationships, and I could read an entire Valerie Pepper novel on the evolution of Sam and Kari’s friendship.
Bottom line, read this book. Revel in the angst and longing and frustration and spice. Valerie Pepper might bring rugby to America yet.
I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book… has that kind of energy where everything feels slightly out of control from the very beginning, and it never really settles. The No Try Zone leans into that messy, impulsive moment that turns into something much bigger, and from there, it just builds this constant tension that keeps pulling you back in.
Sam and Colin are one of those pairings where the chemistry is immediate, but not in a soft or easy way. It’s sharp. There’s friction there from the start, and it doesn’t go away. It just shifts into something more layered the more time they’re forced into each other’s space. Sam has this grounded, no-nonsense energy about her, like she’s worked hard to be taken seriously and refuses to let anything threaten that. But at the same time, there’s this undercurrent of vulnerability that comes through in small moments, especially when things start to feel a little too real.
And Colin… he’s very much about control. Structure. Image. Everything in his life feels intentional, like he’s carefully built it to be exactly what it needs to be. So watching that control slip, even in subtle ways, adds this really interesting tension to his character. He’s not reckless by nature, which makes the situation they’re in feel even more charged, because you can tell it goes against everything he normally stands for.
Together, they create this push-and-pull dynamic that never quite evens out. There’s attraction, yes, but it’s constantly tangled up with frustration, miscommunication, and the weight of everything they stand to lose. Every interaction feels like it’s balancing right on the edge of something tipping over, whether that’s emotionally or professionally, and that keeps the momentum going the entire time.
The setting adds to that tension in a really fun way too. The professional sports environment brings in this added layer of pressure, everything feels heightened, like there’s always something at stake just beneath the surface. And then when you mix in the found family vibes from the team, it creates this contrast between chaos and comfort that actually works really well.
What stood out to me most was how the story plays with control versus impulse. Both of them are used to living within their own rules, their own boundaries, and this situation completely disrupts that. It forces them into something unpredictable, something they can’t fully manage, and watching how they navigate that tension, between what they should do and what they want, is what really drives the story forward.
Overall, this is one of those reads that sits perfectly in that angsty, tension-filled space where nothing is simple and everything feels just a little bit risky. If you love forbidden romance with strong chemistry, layered emotional conflict, and that constant sense of “this could fall apart at any second,” this one is definitely going to hit.
As always be mindful of any trigger warnings, what I like you may not. Happy Reading! ✨📚
I enjoyed this book, I did finish it fairly quickly. I also understood the physical chemistry between the main love interests but I found the Vegas marriage to not quite fit/be used as well as it could be.
The whirlwind night out in Vegas was awesome. I loved the night being driven by chance/coin flips. I also understood Matthew/Colin running out in the morning in a "what did I just do?" moment.
But what I didn't make sense to me was when they run into each other shortly there after at a work social event, why in their heads they kept referring to "my husband" or "my wife" in a serious tone. There was literally no ramifications of them being married. It didn't interfere with her visa status, it didn't complicate another romantic relationship, and since it happened after Jan 1, they had months to deal with it before it even impacted Colin's taxes. (I kid, I kid). The only issue is that if someone found out, there **might** be a scandal in the papers...but even the owners of the rugby team and everyone in the league constantly pointed out that this sport was no where near the level of football/basketball in the US. So really, what were they stressed about?
But yeah, there just seemed to be so much meaning put on a legal status that no one knew about and did not impact anything in their day to day. We weren't in a faery realm where marriages can come with tattoos or magical binds...I just needed some better understanding why this marriage was both such a big deal to them and where this possessiveness stemmed from. Sam could barely remember half of their night together!
In the end, I found the marriage part more distracting than anything else. I think this novel could have survived without it. I honestly think if they had actually slept together in Vegas and then tried to hide that from their employer but were attracted to one another/couldn't stay away (there is a no fraternization clause in their employment contracts) would have created the feeling of "ugh...don't get caught" that the marriage failed to make me feel.
I realize this sounds like a negative review. It's not really. I loved the rugby players on the team, I found the overall setting and story fun. The sexy scenes were well written. Love an author who includes after care in novels.
I would say this was fun, I don't know if I will do any more in this series, but I would give Valerie another go.
Another sports romance that is not hockey, football, or baseball! Now, I love those sports, but I am so happy to see more unknown sports coming to play (pun intended) within the romance genre. Bring on the rugby, volleyball, basketball, and even more soccer. Valerie Pepper gives us more rugby romance in book 2 of her Atlantic Granite series, The No Try Zone. What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas for our two MCs as they discover they are more connected beyond a wild night out. Valerie does an amazing job in creating tension between them and gives us a MMC who yearns for his woman.
Colin is the new head coach of the Atlantic Granite rugby team. He likes to have order in his life, so his “go with the flow” attitude while in Vegas is out of character for him. He finds himself drawn to a woman he meets and wants to just have fun with her. He didn’t plan on waking up married and didn’t plan on running out on her either. Now his brain is scrambling for control again, but it won’t come. More so, he never expected to see his new wife show up at his work as the new physical therapist.
Sam is the big sister who moved from Australia to help support her younger brother’s dreams of playing rugby. Thankfully her physical therapy training lands her a job with the same team. I loved watching her relationship with her brother and could relate to many moments they have. I am the oldest sibling and remember being like this with my siblings when we were younger. While in Vegas she meets a handsome stranger who gives her the night of her life. Waking up alone, hung over, and with a wedding band on her ring finger was not anything she thought would ever happen to her.
Valerie brings us wonderful romance that is surrounded with lighthearted moments, but brings the emotion as well. The chemistry is undeniable between Colin and Sam, which makes the journey that much better. Seeing them fall for each other, while trying to keep their feelings locked down, made the tension in this book delicious. And when that tension finally snaps?!?! Jackpot, baby! Yes, again, pun intended.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🏉Married in Vegas 💍Found Family 🏉Age Gap Romance 💍Forced Proximity 🏉Forbidden Romance 💍Player’s Sister 🏉Coach x Team PT
I was so ready to love this book; rugby romance with a Las Vegas wedding trope? Immediate yes from me. And while The No Try Zone definitely had moments that kept me invested, this ended up being one of those reads where my frustration with the characters slightly overshadowed my overall enjoyment.
Let’s start with Colin… because wow. Sometimes an author writes an MMC who starts off rough but redeems himself in a way that completely wins you over. Unfortunately, that didn’t fully happen here for me. Colin spent a large portion of the book stuck in this frustrating cycle of wanting Sam, taking what he wanted from her emotionally and physically, and then pulling away without any real clarity or growth. It became repetitive, and instead of building tension, it started to wear thin. By the time he did start showing signs of maturity, I struggled to fully buy into it because I needed more accountability and consistency from him earlier on.
Sam, on the other hand, was a character I genuinely liked from the start. She had so many qualities of a strong FMC - independent, caring, and emotionally open - but her dynamic with Colin made it hard to fully enjoy her strength. Watching her continuously go back to him, despite how poorly he handled things at times, was frustrating. I kept waiting for her to really put her foot down and demand better for herself, especially since she deserved so much more than the back-and-forth he was giving her.
That said, the supporting characters absolutely carried parts of this book for me. Ollie was such a standout - I loved his presence and what he brought to the story -and Sam’s friends added so much warmth, humor, and that found-family feel that I always appreciate in romances. They helped balance out some of the heavier frustration from the main relationship.
Despite my issues, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the book. The premise was fun, the pacing kept things moving, and there were definitely moments where the chemistry and emotional connection did shine through. I just wish the character development - especially on Colin’s side - had come a bit earlier and felt more earned.
Overall, this is a good pick if you enjoy messy, emotionally complicated relationships with a strong friend group and a fun trope setup.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The No Try Zone by Valerie Pepper was such a fun, addictive read that I could not put down. It has everything I love in a romance with humor, tension, and that chaotic spark that keeps you flipping pages way too late into the night.
Sam Nash is instantly lovable. She is independent, driven, and trying so hard to keep her life on track after one impulsive decision turns everything upside down. I loved how real she felt, especially the way she struggled between staying in control and giving in to something unexpected. Her voice pulled me in right away and I found myself rooting for her from the very beginning.
And Colin… he is the perfect mix of controlled and completely undone. Watching a man who has built his entire life on discipline suddenly face something he cannot control was so satisfying. He has that strong, steady presence but underneath it all there is so much vulnerability, especially when it comes to Sam. The chemistry between them is immediate and intense, but it is the emotional tension that really made this story shine.
The Vegas marriage trope is done so well here. It feels fresh and full of energy, especially with all the complications that come crashing in once reality hits. The added layers with the rugby team, the professional boundaries, and the secrets made everything even more engaging. And I have to mention the Granite girl gang because they brought so much life and fun to the story. I loved every scene they were in.
What really stood out to me was the balance between the lighthearted moments and the deeper emotional stakes. There is humor and banter, but there is also growth, trust, and learning how to let someone in when it feels risky. It made the relationship feel earned and meaningful.
This book is flirty, heartfelt, and full of tension in the best way. If you love accidental marriage, workplace romance, and a hero who falls harder than he ever expected, you need this on your list. I had so much fun with this one and I am already thinking about a reread.
ARC REVIEW The No Try Zone by Valerie Pepper ⭐⭐⭐¼ (3.25/5)
A rugby romance? Say less. It’s such an underused sport in the genre, and this book really shines when we’re on the pitch. The balance between game play and romance felt strong, and I genuinely enjoyed those moments.
Sam and Colin’s whirlwind Vegas night—complete with an impulsive marriage (!!)—is easily the highlight. The chemistry is instant and electric, and the banter absolutely delivers. From dares and games of chance to that perfectly built first kiss, it’s easy to buy how something real could spark in just one night. It’s chaotic, fun, and fast-paced in the best way. And then… reality hits.
Sam was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I loved so much about her—her independence, her loyalty to her people, and her work ethic—but I struggled with how she handled the fallout from that night. Her frustration is valid, especially with Colin leaving without a word, but the lack of personal accountability made it harder for me to fully connect with her. It took me out of the story more than I wanted it to, which is a bummer because she has all the makings of a character I’d usually love.
Colin, on the other hand, grew on me. His decision to leave without a word the morning after their wedding didn’t sit right, but getting his perspective added some needed context that softened the blow a little. I appreciated his honesty about what he could realistically offer, even when it wasn’t the relationship that Sam wanted. That said, his communication skills definitely left something to be desired, which created some frustrating moments.
What lost me a bit in the story was the present-day relationship. The connection that felt so natural and compelling during their night in Vegas didn’t carry over fully. Outside of the physical chemistry, I wanted a little more emotional depth to understand why they kept finding their way back to each other.
Overall, this one had a strong, super-engaging start and a unique sports backdrop, but the character dynamics in the aftermath didn’t hit quite as hard for me.
Thank you NetGalley, Stafford Lane Publishing and Valerie Pepper for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I unfortunately DNF'd this book at 43%. I read it over several days and really pushed myself to continue reading it, but when I have to try this hard I know this book isn't for me. There were a few things in the beginning that I felt could have been done better. The prologue seemed very untraditional. It opened to the morning after they were married and then the book started from before they even met. It felt very discombobulated and took me a second to realize what was happening when the first chapter started opening. Second, Granite is a Rugby team, but they never actually state this in the book. I get that it's the second book in a series, but being able to be read as a stand alone I wish there had been more detail. Especially, when introducing her friends that they are the PR, team captain wife, etc. I got very lost very quickly and felt like it could have been a little bit better introduced.
The beginning where they were falling for each other was honestly good, especially the lucky coin and letting her inhibitions out to be with Colin. It's after this that the story continues to go downhill. The plot of the book just feels like such fake drama and the constant "I want him", "I hate him". Sam is honestly insufferable and mean spirited and it's not a draw that she calls it like she see's it. There's a way to be confident without just being harsh to everyone that she speaks to. I about DNF'd when she was rude to her brother for literally no reason, but she continually blames Colin for her inability to check and manage herself and places the blame 100% on him. The author tries to convey sexual tension, but it's just frustrating - at least it was for me as the reader.
I think it has so much potential and maybe a reader who enjoys the chase and the "hot and cold" would be a better audience for this book.

"The No Try Zone" is the second installment of the Atlanta Granite series by Valerie Pepper. I was given the opportunity by @bookcase.media to read this as an advance reader's copy. I have not read read anything by Valerie and for my first dive into her world I really enjoyed Colin and Sam. So thank you bookcase.media and Valerie for the opportunity! This releases May 1st.
They met in Vegas and they always say, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas but for these two it very much DID not stay in Vegas. One night where both morals and rules to themselves are thrown out the window; the go back to Atlanta to stsrt their new jobs but kicker: its for the Atlanta Granite rugby team. Colin is the new head coach and Sam is the new physical therapist following her brother who is a player for the team.
The yearning in this book is unmatched, the banter is chefs kiss classic that all of us romance reader's love. The character developement is the sweetest plot builder to this entire story. As someone who doesn’t know rugby much, I did have to do some quick research on the lingo but that is my own opinion when it comes to reading a book.
Colin does the unthinkable after the night happens in Vegas and kept tripping over his own love story because of his background and Sam finally has enough and shows us in black and white why she is a fierce FMC that can defend herself in and out of the bedroom. The only thing she can't fight off is the feelings she ends up really having for Colin and the third act is all comes out and that HEA makes you all giddy when reading. The chemistry of these two characters also reqlly stood out for me because they did tease eachother in their own way and it made for a good story.
This is the second book in the series and it had me hooked from the jump. It’s one of those stories that sneaks up on you. It’s fun, a little chaotic, and impossible to put down once you’re in it.
Sam is the kind of heroine you can’t help but root for. She’s strong willed and determined, but also human in the way she stumbles when life throws her off course. Watching her try to regain control while navigating something completely unexpected made her feel incredibly real. I was invested in her almost immediately.
Colin, on the other hand, is all structure on the surface… but underneath? Total unraveling. There’s something so compelling about a character who’s used to having everything mapped out suddenly losing his footing. His quiet strength paired with that hidden vulnerability made him such a standout. And when it comes to Sam? He doesn’t stand a chance.
Their connection is instant, but it’s the emotional push and pull that really carries the story. There’s tension, yes, but it’s layered with growth, hesitation, and the kind of feelings that don’t come easy.
The accidental Vegas marriage trope is handled in a way that feels fresh instead of overdone. Once reality hits, everything spirals in the best way… complicated jobs, blurred boundaries, secrets, and outside pressures all adding to the chaos. The rugby team dynamic and side characters (especially the friend group) brought so much personality and energy to the story.
Overall, this one delivers on every level. It’s flirty, emotional, messy in the best way, and full of heart. If you’re into accidental marriage, workplace tension, and a hero who falls harder than he ever planned, this is absolutely worth picking up.
Thank you to the author for letting me read an advanced copy for my honest review.
This is the first time I'm reading a Valerie Pepper book, and it always pleases me greatly to discover a new author to follow and watch out for. I certainly enjoyed her writing style in this book: engaging, witty, and relaxed. And if the intensity of the romance and spice in this book is representative of her work, then surely she is the author to turn to if you enjoy swoony romance and mid-level spice that will heat you up.
Plot-wise, it was precisely the forbidden nature of the main characters' romance that attracted me to the book. I'm always curious how authors create that forbidden narrative, particularly on how the characters deal with the reasons that cause their relationship to be forbidden and how they deal with the consequences once said relationship is brought out into the open.
I'd likewise enjoyed the mix of characters in this book and their various personalities. The FMC, Sam, was certainly a badass: tough, fierce, and very attuned to what her heart and body feels. It was engrossing to watch her interact with her loyal female besties and her protective younger brother. The MMC, Colin, though was one to irritate me for most of the book. Sure, I loved the picture painted of him having a drop-dead physique, a deliciously masculine aura, and gorgeous bearded face, but I definitely did not like the way he handled his conflicting emotions about his relationship with Sam. But he redeemed himself in the end, and I was very glad for that.
For sure, this is a series worth following from here on now. I'm thankful I got to read this book that introduced me to the fictional rugby world created by Ms. Pepper.
I'm a grateful recipient of a free review copy of this book. I write this review voluntarily.
*The No Try Zone* by Valerie Pepper is an entertaining, trope-filled romance that delivers tension, chemistry, and just the right amount of chaos to keep you hooked.
The Vegas marriage trope is a standout here—fun, impulsive, and the perfect setup for everything that follows. It kicks the story off with energy and immediately pulls you into Sam and Colin’s complicated dynamic. Add in the forbidden element of him being her boss, and the tension practically writes itself.
Sam is a strong and grounded main character, balancing independence with vulnerability in a way that feels real and easy to connect with. Colin, on the other hand, brings all the yearning—seriously, the emotional tension and slow unraveling of his feelings add a lot to the story’s appeal.
The sports setting adds another layer, and even without deep knowledge of rugby, it’s easy to follow and enjoy. The found family aspect also shines, giving the story warmth beyond just the central romance.
The pacing is quick and engaging, making it an easy binge read. That said, while the chemistry is strong, I found myself wanting a bit more development in the relationship itself—more of those smaller, quiet moments that build a deeper emotional connection.
Overall, *The No Try Zone* is a fun, addictive romance that leans into its tropes and delivers an enjoyable mix of angst, humor, and heart. It’s a great pick for readers who love sports romance, forced proximity, and a healthy dose of emotional tension.

How does one wildly chaotic, over-the-top night in Vegas manage to swing from pure magic to absolute emotional wreckage in the blink of an eye?! Because wow, The No Try Zone did not come to play. It took me on a ride, and I felt every single turn of it.
I fell hard for Sam and Colin, even when they were making it so hard to do so. Sam is a full-on spitfire. She’s sharp, self-assured, and very much a take-no-crap kind of woman… until the moment she isn’t. And that shift? It hurt. Watching her slowly lose her footing, questioning who she even is anymore, hit deeper than I expected. That kind of internal unraveling stays with you.
And Colin… I loved him, I really did. But also? I wanted to shake him. Maybe yell at him a little (a lot). The fear that holds him back, the way he convinces himself he’s doing the right thing while everything falls apart… it’s frustrating in the most human way. You can feel how badly he wants to get it right, and how spectacularly he struggles to actually do it.
The pull between them is undeniable. Magnetic in that way where you just know there’s no real escaping it, no matter how hard they try. And when Colin finally steps into his courage? I was done for. Completely.
This story is fun and chaotic on the surface, but underneath, it carries so much emotional weight. It stings, it softens, it lingers. It’s the kind of book that hurts a little and heals a little all at once.
I loved it.
Special thanks to the author for the gifted copy 🫶🏼
The No Try Zone by Valerie Pepper ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sam and Colin’s chemistry absolutely stole the show for me. From the very beginning, it’s that irresistible, can’t-stay-away, can’t-keep-their-hands-off-each-other kind of connection—and the tension? Unreal. Every interaction felt charged, like something was always just about to tip over the edge.
What really elevated their story, though, were the stakes. Colin being the head coach to the Atlanta Granite and Sam working as the team’s physical therapist created a constant push and pull, especially with the no-fraternization policy hanging over them. It added a layer of realism and conflict that made their relationship feel risky in the best way. I could understand Colin’s hesitation—his fear felt genuine—but at the same time, I kept wanting him to just step up and fight for what he clearly wanted.
That said, I really appreciated the moments where he did show up for Sam. Those glimpses of courage and loyalty made his character feel more grounded and redeemable, especially when contrasted with his earlier fear.
And as always with this Valerie Pepper, the experience was just… fun. The humor hits, the tension keeps you hooked, and the spice? So good. It’s the kind of book you fly through because you’re completely wrapped up in the characters and their messy, magnetic connection.
Thank you to Valerie Pepper and Luna Literary for this ARC. All thoughts are my own.

The second book in the Atlanta Granite series has a great cast of characters, including a couple you root for to make a “oops we woke up married in Vegas” connection into a lifelong love.
Sam (32) left Australia for Atlanta to support her younger brother’s dream of playing pro rugby in America, and was swiftly recruited to join the same club as a personal trainer.
Colin (42) worked relentlessly to become head coach of a pro rugby team, and this rule follower has one year to prove he deserves a longer contract: no distractions, no drama, all the wins. This gig could help him fulfill the most important promise he ever made.
A series of lucky chances at a casino bar and an innate draw spark one adventurous night that leaves them waking up married to a virtual stranger.
Who both happen to be starting a new job at the same rugby club—and he’s *technically* her boss. Oops?
A love story navigating fate and luck, control and vulnerability, promises and sacrifice, communication and hope.
And WOO BOY the yearninnnng.
Looking forward to the next book in this series!

I really enjoyed The No Try Zone by Valerie Pepper, it was such a fun read. I’m always a fan of stories with strong banter between the FMC and MMC, especially when they start out as strangers, and this one delivered.
The story follows rugby coach Colin and physical therapist Samantha (Sam), who both have strict personal rules about drinking…until one night in Vegas when they decide to leave it all up to a coin flip. Against all odds, that decision leads to Elvis and an unexpected wedding.
The next morning is chaos in the best way when Colin wakes up, realizes he’s married, and panics. Sam wakes up alone with a ring on her finger and only fragments of memory. They both return to Atlanta, only to discover they’re starting new jobs within the same rugby organization.
From there, the story unfolds with forced proximity, secrecy, and growing feelings. Colin struggles with internal pressure and fear that a relationship could derail his focus, while Sam is navigating visa concerns, her brother’s role on the team, and a non-fraternization policy that complicates everything. As they try to figure out their situation, their chemistry builds naturally, making the emotional payoff feel earned.
This is a classic accidental marriage → forced proximity romance, with great character dynamics and an engaging setup. I’d definitely love to see more stories featuring the side characters, they seem like they have plenty of potential for their own compelling arcs.
