This is the second book I’ve read by Blakely, and once again, I was thoroughly impressed. I really enjoy her writing style—it's engaging, fast-paced, and emotionally resonant. One of her standout strengths is character development. Not only are the main characters well fleshed out, but even the supporting cast feels fully realized and relevant to the story.
The plot centers around a one-night stand that unexpectedly turns into an employer/employee dynamic, creating a complicated relationship that constantly tests boundaries. Naturally, things don’t stay professional for long—and yes, they get caught. The fallout is messy, and both characters handle the situation poorly, leading to her decision to leave and start over somewhere else.
With about 10% of the book left, I honestly couldn’t imagine how the author would pull off a satisfying ending. But Blakely delivered a brilliant twist that completely surprised me, and somehow, it all came together in a way that felt both realistic and uplifting.
There are some great spicy scenes throughout, but what stood out even more was the emotional depth—particularly from the male main character. His humility and vulnerability by the end added a lot of heart and made the story even more compelling.
Overall, this was a fantastic read. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance with strong character arcs, emotional twists, and a satisfying blend of heat and heart.
