"Don't stay out after dark," they said, "or the wisps will lead you away."
Casper, the herbalist's apprentice, never quite fit in. He didn't fear the wisps in the forest; they didn't steal him away, like the others said they would. Instead, they led him home.
But when his sister, Maia, goes into the forest after dark and doesn't return... he has no option but to follow.
The dark woods hold many painful memories, but they hold a familiar song as well. Leiff, a wisp, plays the tune Casper remembers from so long ago, and although the years have changed them, their fascination with each other remains the same.
With courage, luck, and a lot of trust, can Casper and Leiff find Casper's sister together?
Thank you to the author O.T. Pollock for a complimentary early release copy of The Waltz of the Wisps.
The Waltz of the Wisps is a nice cozy fantasy story, I ended up falling in love with this world and its characters immediately. The scenery for this book is beautiful, the way the villages and forests scenes are described does a really good job of setting a whimsical atmosphere. I loved and enjoyed these characters as well, Casper and Lieff were both interesting characters to read from and I’m really happy that we get both of their perspectives. I liked Casper’s herbalist scenes, I enjoyed the atmosphere of the Herbs & Ore store and ingredients collecting bits.
I liked Lieff’s perspective too, the prologue scene with him had me intrigued from the start. The wisps creatures are such fascinating people to read about. The village of Lysby is my favorite part about this book, the scenery for it is very magical, and I liked the vibe of safety and sense of community that it gave. The wisps of Lysby are amazing, I really enjoyed the way they interact with one another. There are so many cute and wholesome moments between the characters there. The wisps people/community is so unique and eye catching, I enjoyed seeing their abilities, the painting, music, and way they communicate with each other is just so incredible wholesome and entertaining.
There is a bit of a romance for The Waltz of the Wisps but I wouldn’t say it’s the center focus of the book, the little romance moments are cute and I was definitely routing for Casper and Lieff though! This book really focuses more on the cozy atmosphere, friendships, and finding a community where you feel you belong in. All of which were written fantastically in my opinion! I’m very pleased with the direction that the ending went in, I wasn’t sure how the story was going to wrap up and I was worried for a moment but I’m happy with how things went. The ending of the book was just as wholesome and whimsical as the beginning. This is definitely going to be a book where certain characters and scenes stick with me! If you’re a cozy fantasy reader this is one you need to add to your tbr!
I had such a great time reading through this story. I've currently got a bad headache, but I fought through it to finish reading because I was that entranced by the story. I love Casper and Leiff as our main characters, they're such lovely guys and I desperately want to dance with them both. Gosh, this entire story made me want to dance. The scenery and descriptions help paint the story well and I'm envious of many tea's described in the story. I would love one of Casper's tea's right now, I bet he knows one that helps with headache's. I'm eating these characters, nom nom nom.
Genuinely, what a pleasure this was! Cozy, sweet, and wholly taking advantage of a weak spot of mine, so much tea.
Pollock has really managed to craft a world that feels as soft and inviting as a pair of slippers during the winter time. Can't wait to see what they craft up next!
