I absolutely adored the first book, so I went into Immortal Secrets with really high expectations, and I had such a good time continuing Ambrose’s journey. We pick up immediately after the events of book one, and there is truly no time to catch your breath.
This installment leans much more heavily into the fantasy than the romance, and honestly, I think that worked really well for the story. Ambrose is thrown into an entirely new kingdom where she’s forced to question everything she thought she knew. Between the dragon riders, the siren queen, the political corruption, and centuries of hidden history, the world opens up in such a fun way. I loved discovering more about the different cultures, the magic, and watching the lines between ally and enemy become increasingly blurred.
One of my favorite parts was watching Ambrose continue to grow into her powers. Her character development felt incredibly satisfying, and I loved seeing her become more confident while still feeling like herself. The found family elements were another highlight for me. We’re introduced to so many new characters that I can already tell are going to play important roles moving forward, and I can’t wait to see where their stories go.
While the pacing isn’t quite as nonstop as book one, it kept my attention from beginning to end because every chapter seemed to reveal another piece of the bigger picture. It definitely feels like this book is laying the foundation for an even bigger payoff in the next installment, and I am so ready for it.

⚠️ Spoiler Thoughts
My biggest struggle was Akadian’s role throughout most of the book. Since he spends so much of the story out of commission, I really missed the connection between him and Ambrose that I loved in the first book. Their romance took a backseat, which I understand was likely intentional so Ambrose could fully step into her own power without relying on him. From a storytelling perspective, I actually appreciate that choice
That said, because they spent so much of the book apart, the “I love you” moments at the end didn’t hit me as emotionally as I wanted them to. I wanted to feel that relationship deepen alongside everything else happening in the story, and instead it felt like we skipped over some of those intimate moments that make me root so hard for a couple.
I’m really hoping book three gives us more time with the two of them together because I think the foundation is there. Now that Ambrose has grown so much on her own, I’m excited to see how their relationship develops with both of them actively sharing the page again.
Overall, I had a wonderful time with this sequel. It’s a book that expands the world in every direction, deepens the political intrigue, and gives Ambrose the space to truly become the heroine she’s meant to be. If you loved the first book for its fast pace and epic fantasy feel, I think you’ll really enjoy seeing just how much bigger this world becomes. I’m already counting down the days until book three.

My honest review:
I loved being able to see Ambrose really grow her power and strength in Immortal Secrets. She became very confident in herself and what she was capable of.
I was sad that we don't get to see as much of Akadian in this one as we did in the first book. Despite that, this book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I can't wait for the next installment!

3.75 Book two took me a min to get into to but it wasn’t bad! I enjoyed parts of it. I most likely will read book three as this book does leave on a cliffhanger.
I hate how the MMC wasn’t around much but I did enjoy some of the side characters and watching the FMC grow more into her character and powers

This book was a fantastic read. It is filled with pure magic. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Fantasy, slow burn and suspense tied up into one awesome book. I can’t wait till the next book.

This sequel is filled with pure magik! Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole read. It’s so hard to say anything without giving it away but the character development was fantastic and you delve deeper into world/lore of that the author has created. Needless to say, I highly recommend this series as a whole and look forward to the next book in the series!!

I was so excited when I saw that it was possible to apply for an e-Arc of this book as I was a huge fan of book one. I really needed this as soon as possible.
That being said, I have read book one before and listened to the audio book before reading the sequel to get into the perfect mood for starting this. And before I start, may I please have book three also – like right now would be a good time.
First of all I was very pleased that the book started off with a detailed summary of everything that had happened so far. I really appreciate when after a certain amount of time you get to quickly read through everything that happened so your memories can come back to the forefront before you get thrown into this rich and awe inspiring world building. My mama-brain loves that!
Compared to the first one it did take a bit longer to dive into the story, but I didn't mind that. It just gave me a bit more time to prepare myself for everything that was eventually going to happen – and of course it did! But with Taryns writing I didn't expect anything else.
This book is slower paced and we get to meet different and intriguing new cultures, magical beings (as DRAGONS), gods, magick and a whole lot nerve wrecking plot that is guaranteed to keep you trapped in front of your kindle, if you want to or not. (You may get side eyed at social gatherings for reading though, just saying)
I really enjoyed the growth the characters went through and how we got to know everyone better and more up close. I missed Akadian in the beginning, especially in the almost drowning scene and right afterwards he felt a bit distant and not emotionally present. I longed for more of his feeling to be shown to the reader. This changes throughout the story though, as this book is noticeably spicier as the first installment.
An other character I was a bit thrown off by is Morana. She was introduced as an assassin who tried to kill Ambrose, but after failing she was easily let off the hook, included into the group and almost non existed for the rest of the book. I would have wanted to know a bit more about her background, the reasoning behind her actions and the person in total.
All in all I really enjoyed the reading experience. The vivid description and the way I could easily picture the scenes made the story come to life beautifully and I can't stop to tell you how much I hope for a matching sequel to the beautiful Everheart edition, because this book totally deserves the special edition treatment.

Akadian got done dirty in this book!
Arguably my favorite character in this series, and I did not get nearly enough of him. And yes, that is why this is a four-star review instead of a five-star review. I'm petty. (This is a joke by the way, I am not that petty.)
Seriously though, I did love this book.
I think Immortal Flame is still my favorite installment in the series because it gives us Immortal Origins from Akadian's point of view. I was not joking when I said he was my favorite character.
Immortal Secrets picks up right where Immortal Origins left off, which is something I always appreciate in a series. We jump right back into the story without missing a beat.
One thing I noticed right away was that this book has a slower pace than Immortal Origins. That is not a criticism, just an observation, and a reason for my four star review. My personal preference would have been a bit quicker pace. This is just a personal preference! While the first book focused heavily on the trials, this installment spends much more time with Ambrose as she comes to terms with what she has become and discovers what she is truly capable of. Some of those discoveries were definitely surprising.
There is not a ton of new world-building in this book, but that makes sense because most of that heavy lifting was already done in book one. We do get a few new details here and there, but the focus is really on character growth, training, and learning how to use newfound abilities.
The writing style continues to be one of my favorite things about this series. It is descriptive without being overwhelming and paints vivid scenes while still keeping the story moving. It is incredibly easy to get lost in the pages.
We are also introduced to some new characters who immediately caught my attention. They brought some humor and intrigue to the story, and I am looking forward to seeing more of them in future books.
While this book is a little slower than the first, it does an excellent job setting up what comes next. By the time I reached the end, I was more than ready to get my hands on the next installment.

A little note, I don’t know if it’s only in the Kindle version but why is the Content Warning page at the end of the book and not at the begining..? It’s kinda useless to put it there in my opinion😅
On another note, the book was good and I had a great time reading it. Some things didn’t make sense for me, I was lost in the plot when the characters were doing something and all of a sudden something else is happening but it’s brought so weirdly that I don’t understand what the hell is going on (and it’s not because it’s a surprise). Sometimes they were fighting and BAM someone has a sword that wasn’t there before, they are on the ground and BAM they are falling from the sky but were never there in the first place (these are not perfect exemples from the book, but just so you understand what I’m saying). It was missing information, it was not flowing the way it should’ve. The FMC was saying so many things that didn’t make sense like « he doesn’t belong to you or anyone, he belongs to himself. » and then « he’s mine » girl what? Didn’t you JUST say he belongs to nobody but himself? You’re like… not him🤔 so yeah this book was confusing at some points either for the storyline or the dialogue. Also, the way Morana (the assassin) was brought was so random in the story. She was almost no mentioned after she chose to stay but like she tried to kill Ambrose and they just let her vibe there with nobody to keep an eye on here or Ambrose talking more about Morana and what she’s doing on the island? We missed a lot of important information there, you can’t just introduce a new character that is deadly to the FMC, and probably everyone else, let her roam around free and talk about her here and there for nothing important😐 give us more, build her better in the story!
It’s giving me a mix of fourth wing with everything about the dragons (and Morana gave huge Liam vibes with her wooden sculptures) and crescent city with the gods and who they really are/their power. It was done a little bit more differently, but I was still thinking of these books while reading Immortal Secrets. Overall, it’s still a nice story and will read book 3 if given the chance🙂

Immortal Secrets by Taryn Knightly (Book 2)

I have to admit... this one took me a little longer to get into than the first book. I was starting to wonder if it was going to hit the same way... and then...
BOOM.
Taryn Knightly reminded me exactly why I loved this series.
Before I knew it, I was completely immersed in a world of dragons, gods, ancient secrets, and elemental magic that is not to be messed with. I absolutely loved the new characters introduced in this book, and even more than that, I loved watching the existing characters continue to grow. Every discovery answered one question while somehow creating three more, and every reveal expanded the world in the best way possible. The mythology, the elemental magic, the dragon bonds, and all the hidden truths weave together into a world that's impossible not to get lost in.
Now... can we circle back to the dragons for a minute?
Because at this point, I've fully accepted that my life goals have changed. I don't need a winning lottery ticket... I need an immortal dragon to choose me. I want the dragon bond. I want to soar through the skies. I want magical powers. I want to wield all four elements. And yes... I want my dragon silently judging people with me from a distance.
Is that really too much to ask?
Taryn... are you accepting applications to become an honorary dragon rider while we wait for Book 3? Because I have questions, emotional damage, and an overwhelming need to know what happens next.
Final Verdict:
~Made me desperately want my own dragon.
~Had me wishing I could wield all four elements.
~Kept me questioning everything.
~Left me emotionally compromised.
~Immediately needed Book 3.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be patiently waiting for a dragon to show up at my front door... or Book 3. I'll happily take whichever comes first.

Ambrose is back, still fierce, but confused (I was too, here and there). Almost directionless with little to go on, having to fumble her way through. They embark to another kingdom of pirates, sirens, half-human creatures, and dragons. More challenges, more danger, but the threat beyond just absently looming in the faraway edges. Whenever she gets pulled into the other world, it doesn't seem to offer her any more answers, only more apparent confusion and more questions.
'A fire erupted in her chest and licked down her spine, coursing through her veins. Hotter than his flames, and brighter than any sun.' (Ch 34)
This is more fantasy than romance, but there is still an undercurrent of romance here and there. Akadian seemed mostly subdued, like shadows in the background, almost like he's just a guardian. Their interactions are secondary or tertiary at best, until something happens...
'He would be her sword and shield. Her armor. There was nowhere she could go that he wouldn’t follow.' (Ch 36)
Where books 1 and 1.5 had me speeding through, this one slowed down in pace for me as I waded through and tried to soak it all up. There was a lot going on, subplots seemingly everywhere. Whenever it picked up, though, it was riveting! And there was a new POV, which kind of threw me off until their story met up with the main. That new character might just be just as interesting as the FMC.

This is more fantasy than romance, but there is still an undercurrent of romance here and there. Akadian seemed mostly subdued, like shadows in the background, almost like he's just a guardian. Their interactions are secondary or tertiary at best, until something happens...
'He would be her sword and shield. Her armor. There was nowhere she could go that he wouldn’t follow.' (Ch 36)
Where books 1 and 1.5 had me speeding through, this one slowed down in pace for me as I waded through and tried to soak it all up. There was a lot going on, subplots seemingly everywhere. Whenever it picked up, though, it was riveting! And there was a new POV, which kind of threw me off until their story met up with the main. That new character might just be just as interesting as the FMC.

After loving book one, I went into Immortal Secrets both excited and a little nervous as sequels don’t always hit the same way. This one absolutely lived up to my expectations. I enjoyed it from start to finish.
The balance of magick expansion, world‑building, and action felt spot‑on. I especially loved how deeply this book dives into the FMC’s power—what makes it unique, why it matters, and how it shapes the larger conflict. It’s explored with intention.
The romance that sparked in book one is still present, but it doesn't overshadows the main storyline. Personally, that was a win for me. I appreciated that the focus stays on the world, the stakes, and the growing bonds between the characters. The supporting cast really shines here; their development and the strengthening of their relationships made the group feel like a true team. And even though the FMC is “the chosen one,” the story makes it clear she’s only as strong as the people who trust her and stand beside her and evolve with her. That dynamic felt refreshing and meaningful.
I do wish there had been a deeper exploration of a few of the newer characters—Morana especially. She’s still wrapped in mystery, and it feels like there’s so much more to uncover about her history, her time at the academy, and the full scope of her magick. I’m actually glad the book didn’t try to cram that in here, but a future novella diving into the supporting cast’s backstories would be such a great addition to the series.

Immortal Secrets takes everything I enjoyed about the first book and raises the stakes in every way. While Ambrose has officially been named the first Champion in history, earning the title was only the beginning. The real trials are just getting started.
One of my favorite parts of this book was watching Ambrose struggle to prove she's worthy of being the Champion. She's pushed to her limits through grueling training, judged by dragons who seem determined to find her lacking, and challenged by a siren queen who believes she's anything but worthy. I appreciated that her journey wasn't easy. She has to earn every step forward, making her victories feel that much more satisfying.
I also loved how the story expands the world. The hidden dragon rider kingdom, the secret society, and the centuries-old war all add new layers to the series. Since Ambrose is the first person to ever complete the initial Champion trial, no one knows when the remaining trials will come or what they'll entail, creating an underlying tension that kept me hooked.
My only disappointment was that Akadian didn't have a larger role in this installment. He's become one of my favorite characters, and I found myself wishing for more scenes with him.
Overall, Immortal Secrets is an excellent continuation of the series. It deepens the world-building, tests its characters in meaningful ways, and leaves me eager to discover what the next Champion trial has in store.

I LOVED THIS BOOK.
I need you all to understand how serious I am when I say this; this series is on track to be tied with my favorites (ie: TOG, The Everflame series, etc)
Knightly has absolutely blossomed in this second addition to her series, really flexing her creativity, clever plotting and some of the COOLEST magic systems I’ve ever read / seen. And can we talk about the love? If you’re looking for romance in a fantasy novel that isn’t cringy, nauseating and cliche, here it is. She portrays a relationship where the two may be inseparable, but don’t lose their identities or their sense of duty and purpose because of it. Instead, they grow because of it, and THAT is a great romance. The author makes it well known that she draws inspiration from Avatar the Last Airbender - my favorite show of all time- and I’m thrilled to say that while you can see nods to it throughout the story, she uses that inspiration to create something fresh and new.
This book is as a heavy hitter. If anyone needs me, I will be staring at my wall in silence and wondering how quickly she can release book 3.

I feel like an outlier among the reviews here but have to be true to my reading experience!
I was left wanting by this book and the prior. The magic system had great potential to offer a relatively unique world building experience but was left undercooked.
I found the grammar quite distracting. I won’t go into this beyond this as may well be rectified prior to publishing!
In terms of content, this was significantly smuttier than the first book. Not my cup of tea and I ended up skimming these scenes, but feel it would be good for readers who do enjoy this.
Plot wise, I was left disappointed. I felt this book suffered from the same pacing issues as the first. I also think the reveals of various pieces of lore or new magics that exist that no one thought to mention before feels like a Steven Moffat episode of dr who where the resolution is based on stuff he’s just thought in his head.
What I did like was there wasn’t any miscommunication so far; I feel romantasy books tend to lean into something being misunderstood between the love interests leading to an unnecessary conflict. I also liked that there just isn’t a love triangle, again avoiding contrived drama for the sake of having drama.
I’ll also acknowledge that more work went into helping the reader connect with/understand the found family. There was an aspect of this in the previous book that felt hurried to me but was approached with greater depth this book.

Characters: We’re introduced to a new character, Morana. We also gain backstories of some of the side characters: Dorian, Sirena, how the gods became, etc. Ambrose (FMC) has grown since Book 1, she’s stronger, more fearless, and ready to finish things to save those she loves. Akadian (MMC) isn’t as prominent in this one but still a key character, as he meets a devastating blow puts him in the in between with his worst nightmare. Lily is still one of my favorite characters. She’s different, and there’s a story behind why.
Plot twists: I didn’t read many. What I believe were meant to be twists, I had expected. I did have an “I knew it moment,” when Sirena tells her backstory and her connection to Valdis. Also, I am curious as to why Casimir has taken something important to our new character, Morana. Does she have a bigger play in this story?
Other Notes: Taryn keeps you captivated once more. The pacing was slower and there were parts it felt like it was dragging, as it’s focused on a lot of training. It does pick up though, so I stay stick to it. The ending has you wanting to know what will happen in Book 3. I truly am excited to see where Taryn takes us. This book started right where the first one ended. We are introduced to new characters that make you doubt a lot of the information we thought we knew so far, and it made me very interested to keep reading.
This book has more training scenes, where we get to see the FMC grow and turn into something new. I really liked that the friendship aspect had more weight than the romance, and that the romance got time to burn slowly, for more than one reason...
In the last book, we were introduced to dragons, but in this book we get to know them a lot better. I found this really interesting, and the way they are written gave me big cat vibes at times. I absolutely loved that. It honestly made me want to pet that one dragon just to find out how soft it would be.
One place where the FMC stands out is in what she wears. She isn't shy about saying that she misses the skirts she used to wear, but she also likes wearing pants. I know it's a small thing, but it made the FMC feel more relatable to me.
I kept thinking about how I should rate this book while I was reading it. A lot of the time I didn't know where the story was going, and it felt a little slow. There was a lot of training, with some epic battles sprinkled in between. But when I reached the end, everything came together. Everything that happened made sense, and nothing felt unnecessary. So if you feel the same while reading, just keep going. It all comes together in the end.

This series continues to grow and get better. I enjoyed book 1. Book...let's call it 1.5 (Immortal Flame)... wasn't really a book or even a novella but a connected series of vignettes from the MMC's POC. I really feel like Immortal Flame would work wonderfully as a tandem read with book 1, since I found that the handful of Akadian POVs that we got in Immortal Origins helped tremendously with me feeling something for him.
This book, however, takes the world-building of book 1 and expands upon it, giving you more lore and more understanding of what is happening to Ambrose. Akadian takes a backseat in this one, which is never my choice, because I love me a tortured MMC, but Ambrose's journey to realizing just how powerful she is is mesmerizing enough on its own. I never want an MMC to overshadow an FMC, and I think much of this journey needed to happen for Ambrose on her own without Akadian being there to blunt the blows/protect her/etc.
Some of the secondary characters get their turn in the spotlight, though, as a consequence of Akadian not being so front and center, and this works incredibly well for the story, making me care about them much more than I had before.
There's a smidgeon of good spice and some forward momentum on their relationship, as well as some big steps forward plot-wise, as Ambrose gathers her A-Team to free the world.
I am READY for book 3!!

Ambrose story picks up right after the first trial when she escapes Casimir and Eltoria together with her friends. They find refuge in the kingdom of Astonia where citizens live free from the restrictions we experienced in the first book. While Ambrose trains for her second trial and learns more about her destiny, Valdis and Casimir try to eliminate her from afar.
I am honestly struggeling with rating this book. On the one hand the story continues to take surprising twists and turns. We have amazing world building, there is action and great character development. Cool new characters as well. There are even more dragons in this one. Everything the heart desires really. On the other hand this ARC still needs some editing as the pacing feels off sometimes and there a few grammar mistakes. Therefore my read was not flowing quite how I would like it to (probably just a me thing).
Assuming the book undergoes some editing before it is published, I believe it is going to be an enjoyable and exciting read. Beware: It ends on a cliffhanger, nothing majorly uncomfortable though. If you liked the first book of this series I would definitely recommend to continue the series with this riveting second installment.

This one took me a while to get into, and if I’m honest, I struggled a bit with it overall.
I did enjoy seeing the FMC grow more into her powers and become more confident in herself, and some of the side characters really stood out to me. The found family aspect also felt much stronger in this book, which was something I appreciated since it felt a little rushed in book one.

First, I want to thank the author for the ARC!
When I started this book, I got really excited, because the first book was so promising towards the second one. But I really struggled to get through this.
What was missing for me in the first book, was that the main character, Ambrose, didn't got to wield her powers more confidently, and honestly, it took quite a while before she found her confidence in this book too. But that she discovered herself even more was still as beautiful as in the first book.
While I was reading, it felt like the main character only did the same thing, again, and again. And yes, I get that she needed to train to take on the gods, but we read the same thing over and over. It got a bit boring in my opinion to read about how she went to train AGAIN.

When I started this book, I got really excited, because the first book was so promising towards the second one. But I really struggled to get through this.
What was missing for me in the first book, was that the main character, Ambrose, didn't got to wield her powers more confidently, and honestly, it took quite a while before she found her confidence in this book too. But that she discovered herself even more was still as beautiful as in the first book.
While I was reading, it felt like the main character only did the same thing, again, and again. And yes, I get that she needed to train to take on the gods, but we read the same thing over and over. It got a bit boring in my opinion to read about how she went to train AGAIN.

This second installment was a tad bit better than the first. I still struggled with the story, characters and pacing a lot, but there are some parts I appreciated.
The world is still interesting and it was neat meeting more people, types of beings, the dragons, sirens, etc.
There is a found family aspect in here that I did like, and I liked the friendships that developed and how protective and loyal Ambrose was of those friends.
The romance I still cannot connect with, but I do appreciate there was no unnecessary miscommunication drama that occurs. Ambrose has chosen Akadian and sticks with him no matter what, no matter what happens in this book, and vice versa. I loved that even if I don’t feel a romantic connection with the two.
The pacing is really slow and was a lot of training again, and then a lot of angry bursts of violence between characters, that I found a tad annoying and just wanted to continue the story even though I tended to get lost at times.
I don’t believe I’ll continue the series. I just cannot get into it or connect with the story or the characters, and thus I just don’t enjoy myself. I think the author is talented, it just seems like a lot of trope favorites tossed into a book without a cohesive story.
I know others would love this series. It’s just not quite for me.

What a book!
I was immediately drawn into this second book in the series.
Ambrose’s character goes through some serious changes during this instalment. She doesn’t find it easy by any stretch, being challenged when she feels she should be nurtured. There is some considerable tough loving from certain characters during her periods of training. But this all compounds into a seriously action packed latter part of the book. Those last few chapters had me figuratively on the edge of my seat!
I was never to sure about Akadian in the previous book, but I have to say he seriously grew on me during this one. We were exposed to some harrowing back stories during these chapters. The internal battles Akadian faces are pretty harrowing. However reading how the relationship evolves between Akadian and Ambrose was kinda beautiful. They didn’t just fall madly for each other, they had to fight and boy did they fight to be together. Which led to some amazingly 🔥🔥🔥scenes, Akadian has such a dirty mouth hidden under all that internal brooding!
The side characters were equally as engaging. I feel there’s so much more to see from them all, maybe a little romance will blossom between a certain few individuals 👀

I still very much like Ambrose, and I adore all of the side characters apart from one. For a time in the middle of the book I was wondering if this book was just going to be filler. She’s got this new magick, and she’s not really human anymore but she’s supposedly the strongest creature alive but she’s struggling left and right and accepting her death every other chapter like girl c’mon.
BUT things kinda start clicking and you’re learning stuff and she’s learning stuff and BAM it all happens and the book is over. I’m interested to see how the rest of these Champion trials play out.
Ambrose and Akadian, I like that.
Ambrose is still unwilling to accept the world for what it is and that’s what makes her all bad ass and whatnot; yet realistic and humble.
I think this is supposed to be a six book series sooo where’s book three at? I’m more than ready.
I’d recommend this to someone who needs a new fantasy romance saga to obsess over!

This second installment of the series was excellent, as we slowly begin to uncover secrets and learn more about the history of the world in which the story is set. Origins are revealed, relationships deepen, and new alliances are formed.
We discover an entirely new kingdom along with some epic magical creatures that add even more depth to the story.
The pacing is moderate, allowing the plot and character development to unfold naturally. The romance definitely increases a notch in this book, but it feels intentional and fits the story well. Multiple POVs are featured alongside new characters and alliances. We are introduced to several new characters, some we quickly grow to love, while others are impossible not to dislike. I particularly enjoyed how the book helps us understand the world's history and gives insight into events from different perspectives.
The magic is amplified tenfold, and the relationships and secrets uncovered throughout the story are essential, devastating, and at times heartbreaking.
The violence and war feel realistic within the fictional setting. They serve the story well without being unnecessarily gruesome. By the end, it is clear that the next book will begin a new chapter in the journey, and I am intrigued to discover what new characters and challenges await.

Having read Immortal Origins, I was really eager to dive back into this world, and Immortal Secrets delivered another exciting, action packed adventure.
Picking up immediately where book one ended, the stakes are higher than ever as Ambrose is thrown into an even bigger world of dragons, ancient wars, shifting alliances, and dangerous secrets. The story moves away from the tournament style challenges of the first book and instead focuses more on character growth, expanding the world, and uncovering long buried truths.
I really enjoyed meeting the new characters, and the blend of humour, action, and slow burn romance kept the pages turning. The world building continues to grow, with dragon riders, sirens, gods, and political intrigue creating a rich fantasy setting that was easy to become immersed in leave me turning the pages well into the early hours.
While I slightly preferred the structure and trials in Immortal Origins, this sequel does an excellent job of developing the characters and setting up what’s sure to be an explosive next instalment.
Taryn Knightly’s writing keeps you invested from beginning to end, and I’ll definitely be continuing this series.

Taryn did gods work with this book. I enjoyed this book so much. I can see that she put her heart and soul into this book. The way that the world was described. The world building was so good. I felt like I could see everything through my eyes like I was picturing everything. Ambrose was literally everything she is such a bad ass, and akadian was my whole heart in this book. I love all the side characters. I love all the mystical creatures that were more introduced into this book. I love the plot so much. I got to the end and I was like ***NOOOOO I WANT MORE***. I can't wait, I need the third book like tomorrow. This was immediately a 5⭐️from the first chapter I was hooked. I can't wait till the world has this book in their hands(‼️ please read the first book IMMORTAL ORGINS that's out already and then the Novella 1.5 immortal flame when it releases , before book 2 as book 2 is a continuation of the story‼️) I have not been able to read a full romantasy book and this really brought me out of my slump. Ambrose and her crew head off with the pirates to a secret island. Here Ambrose meets new allies, but not everyone is happy to meet the new champion. New loyalties are formed, while there are still those working against Ambrose who want her dead. With Akadian and Lily by her side, Ambrose works on strengthening her magick and her fighting skills to prepare for the next trial.
I absolutely loved this book and all the characters. We get answers to questions left from the first book, as well as from this one, while being left with more questions as well. (In the best possible way.) The POVs open up a little bit, we mainly get Ambrose, however Akadian as well as a new mystery person also get chapters. The new characters in this book fit in so well and it was fun getting to learn more about them, even the mean ones.
I can't wait to see these characters on their next adventure, learn more secrets, and see what other magicks that have yet to be explored.

Ambrose is the first person to survive the Champions Tournament, but chaos enaues and she must flee to another kingdom to find safety in order to compose herself and train for the next trial. There she learns more about the world, the gods, and herself, whilst building her powers. The story picks up directly after book one, but does provide a summary of the story if you need a refresher. I wouldn't recommend reading this without first reading the other books in the series.

At times its chaotic but in a fast pace way, with lots of new and interesting characters being introduced. I really enjoyed seeing how Ambrose grew into her new powers and trained with her new friends. The depth of world building is great, it feels very well thought through and the magic system is really interesting.
If you loved the dragons in Fourth Wing but could do without the military academy element then this might be for you! Theres a bit more spice in book 2, but not too lengthy and could be skipped if thats not your thing.

This book definitely has a lot of lore and background that will help build up to the next books in the series. I definitely do feel like the lore and additional information did take up a lot of the book, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of new information, lots of new characters. I definitely appreciated the attention to detail in the dragons in particular. They were written so beautifully.
Akadian was definitely my favorite character in this book. His inner struggles were gut wrenching. But his love and devotion to Ambrose was lovely and I was swooning. He definitely did not get enough page time in this book!
Ambrose definitely has some humbling moments which is nice because then we get to see her really blossom into a stronger character. There definitely are a lot of training scenes where we get a lot of background information and a lot of side characters get their moment. The scenes with the dragons were some of my favorite scenes, especially the bonding scenes. Those were pretty emotional.
By the end of this book, there are definitely a lot of new questions that need to be answered and a lot of new players are now on the board and vengeance is for sure needed.
