Quite some time ago in my "sea based romance novel" research, I came across this for free on Amazon. I had no idea it was part of a series, and after reading this, I don't even want to pay the $3 for the remaining installments.

Again, we have the trope of a whiny teen female lead lusting after an oafy dreamboat hunk of a man who gets mad at her frequently. Honestly, I was rooting for the "villain" of this story, who is the oafy dreamboat's fiancee. I'd be furious too if my sea captain fiance came home and had been lusting after a teen for no real reason. There are also lots of rapey instances in this tale, which I get is kind of a romance novel "thing" for some reason, but really... let's not.

Even though this is likely self-published, it makes me realize even more that writing a romance novel is easy. Writing a good one takes a bit more finesse.

When you struggled painfully to finish a book just to find out if the hero finally grew some nerves and the heroine some maturity. Then bingo a massive cliffhanger. Frustrating is an understatement

To finish the story you must buy part two and three. I don't mind a series, but I prefer to be able to read an ending. I knew the book was a series, but overlooked the part in the description where it states it is part one of three novellas. The book itself is okay. I get confused because the heroine is brave one minute and speaking her mind, the next she is a complete coward. The hero can not make up his mind. I never understood exactly where she came besides a dock in England or from or how he knew she was on the Pirate's ship. It mentions he heard her screams, but I don't see that being possible. Also, some things are not how things would be said or done during that time era....whatever it was.

I found this book to be very frustrating- what started as an excellent set up devolved as the main character (I can't call her a protagonist, as that would suggest a personality beyond cowering in the corner) essentially forgot how to speak, and the love interest was also fairly useless at communicating.
The worst bit is that this is clearly a single book broken up into several installments, and poorly- no resolution is offered, and I'm not interested enough to purchase the 'sequel', which is really just the end of the book.

The general story was alright. The romance part of it was what got me. I didn't think the main characters were appropriate for each other. He didn't deserve her love for sure. Ends on a pretty large cliffhanger. I do want to keep reading just to find out if the guy gets his act together, but I won't.

Was an immature read. At times felt like it was written by a twelve year old.
