The Wedding in the Whylewood

Rate this book
The great evil has been defeated at last, and the kingdom is safe. The heroic prince will finally marry his beautiful princess... and wedding planner Magnolia Herron might go mad trying to organise the wedding of the century.

Bad enough that the wedding venue, a sacred woodland glade, is owned by grumpy elf warrior Elashor, who gets in her way at every turn. Worse that the forest is bringing out Magnolia's secret identity, and all the magical abilities she's tried to conceal since childhood. Worst of all, arranging this wedding is making Magnolia want a happy ending that she knows she can't have.

As for Elashor? He's given up on happiness and hope. In his long life, he's made too many terrible mistakes, and lost everything he ever cared about. Magnolia and her wedding planning might have pulled him out of his solitude, but he's not going to let her change him.

Or so he thinks.

But the little town of Hollowglen, deep in the mystical Whylewood, has magic all of its own. Helped by a talking unicorn, helpful hedgewitches, a heroic princess, and a few long-lost family members, might Magnolia and Elashor finally find the happy ending that always looked impossible?

A charming cozy fantasy romance, where a little heartbreak and a little hope come together in a beautiful happy ending. Start your adventures in the Kingdom of Westrin with The Wedding in the Whylewood.

I stumbled upon this book on BookSirens and initially it was the cover catching my interest. However, once in a while I just want a nice magical romance, so I happily download a digital review copy.

This book was everything I had expected it to be. There is a lot of magic, there is a lot of romance and there is a lot of character growth. I love how this book is actually about forgiveness, about believing in yourself, about allowing yourself to be happy, about second chances. It's most of all a book about love. Romantic love, but also love for your friends and family. I love how this little town quite quickly started to feel like home and I can't wait to read more stories set in this world! I bet there are many amazing characters waiting for them to find their true selves, and some love, of course!

Thank you to Booksirens and the author for sending me this ARC!

The Wedding in the Whylewood is a cosy, easy-to-read book, with minimal plot. I did enjoy parts, but honestly, I got bored towards the middle. The friendships and love felt surface-level, and there were repetitions throughout, including both of the MCs telling themselves not to ask questions about their friends' personal lives or magic, and quotes that were meant to be meaningful/insightful, but were repeated within pages of each other, losing their poignancy.

Overall, a cute book, but just not for me. 3 stars.

A Whimsical Escape into Woods, Weddings, and Warmth

The Wedding in the Whylewood by Ivy Hollins is like being wrapped in a quilt of mossy green magic and soft candlelight. It’s cozy fantasy at its best — full of heart, charm, and just enough whimsy to make you wish Whylewood were real.

The story unfolds at a gentle pace, with the kind of magic that hums quietly in the background rather than shouting for attention. There’s a dreamy, fairytale quality to the setting — all forest glades, fluttering leaves, and secret traditions. The Whylewood itself feels like a character, mysterious and welcoming in equal measure.

The romance is sweet and slow-burning, with just the right amount of tension to keep you turning pages — no grand drama, just two people finding their way toward each other in the most enchanting of places. The supporting cast adds even more charm, with lovable quirks and cozy subplots that feel like sipping tea with old friends.

While the story doesn't stray far from its warm, familiar beats, that's exactly what makes it so comforting. It's not trying to reinvent fantasy — it's inviting you to settle in, breathe deep, and believe in something tender.

My only wish? A touch more depth in certain moments — a few emotional threads that could’ve been pulled just a little tighter. But even so, the overall experience was like reading by firelight: soothing, heartfelt, and quietly magical.

Perfect for fans of cozy fantasy, enchanted forests, woodland weddings, and stories that feel like a warm hug.

I loved this book - it was a novel twist of scenario/storyline - a wedding planner in a cozy fantasy world planning a princess' wedding.

Definitely memorable characters, although I would have loved to see more about the 2 assistants - have them given a larger role and backstory. The unicorn innkeeper was a lovely touch but again would have liked to know more about him (maybe this is coming in book 2?)

One thing I disliked was the main male character. Yes, he was gloomy and brooding, we got that from the first time he is mentioned, but it got a little depressing in places reading constantly about his gloomy state of mind. In fact, he became almost dislikable as a character for me, and certainly given way too much verbiage - his downer state became so repetitive. So only 4 stars, would otherwise have been 5

This enchanting tale blends fantasy, romance, and a touch of whimsy to create a captivating story. Magnolia Herron’s struggles to plan the wedding of the century—while grappling with her hidden magical powers—adds a fresh twist to the classic “wedding chaos” trope. The grumpy elf warrior Elashor brings depth and a bittersweet edge, making their evolving relationship both heartfelt and believable. The magical setting of Hollowglen, complete with talking unicorns and friendly witches, enriches the story’s charm. While a few plot points feel familiar, the warm characters and imaginative world-building make this a delightful read that’s hard to put down. Definitely worth picking up for fans of fantasy romance with a magical twist.

The Wedding in the Whylewood is a cosy romantasy with just a hint of peril to keep it interesting but not too action packed.
It follows a wedding planner who has to plan a special wedding in a very specific place and this is where Magnolia Herron meets Elashor and a range of magical residents.
The story follows Magnolia, her assistants and the locals in their endeavours to pull off this important wedding. Running through this are themes of belonging (or lack of), friendships and love. There is also a running theme of not prying into people's lives which seemed to cut off some back stories - but maybe this leaves some areas to be developed in later books?
I enjoyed the world building, from the city to the countryside and the range of characters as well as the magical elements - I look forward to reading the rest of the series and will be taking a look at some of the other books by this author.

This was my first book from BookSirens (free copy) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
